"No less than the favorite of a goddess, named Aḻaku."

Though Simon wasn't asking, she nodded anyway to emphasize that the runes were definitely a dialect of the God's Language. As he continued to think, she did so as well, her eyes deciphering the language as much as she could. Slowly, she made out one sentence, then another. Her mind filled in the gaps as much as she thought wise, but there was more to know, as her new companion had said. She looked up when he questioned her, and faced him with her response. "I'm not sure..." What she'd been able to read was far from good, with practically every sentence speaking of power. "I think that, at some point, this land was grounds for a battle." Motioning to the vast field, she continued, trying to explain what she was thinking. "Not one of men, though...what I've read speak of a fight between demons and dieties. This line-" she ran a finger over a set of five runes, surprised to find that the wall as cool as the air around them. Perhaps it was just the pentogram she should avoid, then. "-says 'the light ones have put down evil, and now they will seal it.' I suppose that's what this wall is?" Still unsure, she took a step back, moving to evaluate the wall's structure. By far, it was the strongest thing in the ruins; with the help of magic, that would make sense. "I think...that we have found something very strong, and very wrong."

I like knowing where I'm going...

"A battle ground for deities and demons..." Simon said, examining the ruins, the description seemed to fit, "So the houses were homes for the casters... the casters summoned the demons, and the deities came by and wrecked it all to stop the influx of demons?" he said, loosely summing up the goings on of his brain at that point, "Well, thats that solved isn't it?" he asked unsure, he could amost feel it wasn't that simple, demons were renowned for killing their summoners, why would they have a village where people summoned them? That would indicate a procedure in their summoning, or a ritual to summon one MASSIVE demon... "So perhaps this wasn't a seal for a creature already summoned... but a seal to prevent a summoning..." he said, he put his hand to his chin and pondered the possibility, not exactly realising his inner monologue was slipping out.

... but then again I almost never know where I'm going.

ASHOKA
RAIDE
━┈┈━━┈┈━

Ashoka woke with a start. Not that it changed anything, though. She was in a dusty, pitch-dark cellar below the ruins that she had come to discover on her meaningless travels. Her waking changed nothing, because her eyes may as well have been shut. As I said before: PITCH-FREAKING-DARK. Ashoka stood and streched, issuing a ripple of pops up her spine. She carefully paced about the small room, looking for the tell-tale cracks of light that would mark the entrance. After a great deal of searching, stumbling and a bit too much swearing, she finally found the weathered trapdoor that had granted her access in the first place. Ashoka pushed. To her fury, there was something on top of it. Fantastic. The groggy young woman heard concerned conversation above, and it soon became apparent that people were up there.
"HEY! THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!"
She beat upon the door violently, "WHY THE FU..." Ashoka cut off suddenly, recomposing herself and remembering her namesake, Prince Ashoka, who was a major follower of Sidartha Gautama, otherwise known as Buddha. "I-I mean could you please move, whoever you are? It's kind of dark down here..."

"No less than the favorite of a goddess, named Aḻaku."

Continuing her idle intrest in the wall, Alaku had to admit that he was probably right; their combined explanations had solved the ruins mystery, despite how anticlimatic it was. "Is it?" She pushed back the feeling of unease at the idea, and instead focused on his next ramble. She was getting used to the way he spoke, liking that he wasn't hiding anything from her when it came to this task. "That...makes sense. And I don't see where the runes say otherwise." She glanced back to the written lines across the wall, eyeing them suspiciously. Before she could concentrate any further, the wind returned quickly, bringing her their newest story. "It's kind of dark down here..." Alaku frowned, noticing that the words were clipped off, as if her friendly threads of wind weren't able to easily access the speaker's location.

Sighing, she flung the wind towards Simon, allowing him to hear what she'd been able to as well; it was only fair to return the honesty he'd given her thus far with her own. "Do you hear the wind, wanderer?" she asked, wanting to be sure that he understood the reasons behind her next words. "We are not alone, though the new addition is somewhere near. Let's look."

Ashoka perked up as she heard an elegant, almost prissy voice above her. The rumpus she had made worked. Now she only had to hope that whoever was up there hadn't heard her unshackled stream of obscenities. Ooof. That would be embarrassing, especially since the voice sounded more than proper.

I like knowing where I'm going...

Simon heard a voice carried on the wind, "It's kind of dark down here..." he'd obviously not done it, he had no idea how to cast any type of magic, thus all that was left to him was that Alaku had done it, "Yes... I hear it..." he said "Well if we're gonna search for someone I'll need to get my pack, I can't leave it alone for too long..." he said making his way back to where he'd hidden his pack, upon reaching the location he prised the rock and various plant life away from it, "There it is." he said... he looked to where the pack was sitting... it was atop a wooden trap door of some kind, slinging the pack back over his shoulders he looked around, trying to find the source of the sound Alaku's magic had brought him.

... but then again I almost never know where I'm going.

"No less than the favorite of a goddess, named Aḻaku."

Allowing Simon to retrieve his pack, she stepped back from the wall, deciding to put her study of it behind until they found the source of the voice the wind brought. Concentrating, she asked a thread of wind to retrace its journey. It moved along quickly, not having far to go; though she was very surprised to see it cricle around the man's feet, then settle atop the spot where his pack was previously resting. Smiling faintly, she pointed to the spot as she said, "I believe you've already found it, wanderer." Approaching the area, she released the wind before kneeling beside the wooden door. Yet, she hesitated, still unsure of what was beneath their feet. After all, they were just speaking of demons, and despite being blessed by her goddess, Alaku had no urge to confront such.

Biting back her unsual fear, she let her hands move across the door, trying to evaluate how it worked. Finding a spot to grip, she pulled on the wood. It moved up slightly, though its weight was a surprise. Despite that, she continued to pull until it was up far enough for her to see the voice's owner: a blue eyed female who clearly didn't belong beneath the earth. Still, the sight shocked Alaku, and she dropped the door; luckily, it fell backwards, leaving the space open. "My Goddess, what are you doing in there?"

The sudden burst of light shocked Ashoka, causing her to stumble backwards into the dank of the cellar. She shook her head vigorously, reminding herself that light was her friend and that it wasn't going to hurt her. Ashoka grasped around for a handhold above ground and hoisted herself up. A welcoming poof of fresh air embraced her as she returned to a world considerably less forbidding than that of the previous one. The young woman flopped into the lush grass and would have stayed there if her liberator didn't have such a flabbergasted look upon her surprisingly fair visage. Ashoka stretched, then stepped over to the woman. "
Thank you. I don't know what would have happened if I had to stay down there for another week." A brief rally of shivers wracked her spine, subterranean travel was definitely not for her.

I like knowing where I'm going...

Simon looked incredulously as a woman clawed her way out from the opening in the ground, he only had 2 questions sauntering around his head at this point "Who are you?! And what were you doing down there!?" he shouted, this ruin got crazier as they went, first a holy seal for satan, now women clawing their way from the ground, what was next? Survivors from the village wanting them to undo the seal on their beloved demons so they could be unleashed upon the world? But now he was just getting farfetched ideas from his arse, he regained his composure somewhat sitting down on one of the ruin walls, he tried to process why on earth anyone would be under there, or heck, WHY this place even had an underground of any sort.

... but then again I almost never know where I'm going.

"No less than the favorite of a goddess, named Aḻaku."

Quickly regaining her control, she stood up, letting the woman climb her way from the ground. Her words did little to answer the question Alaku had, so she remained quiet, her only acknowledgement being a nod to prove that her thanks her accepted. Looking over to Simon, she noted the suprise in his tone, though she made no move to calm him down. They had just discovered a demonic circle, and were wary of any random newcomer. Taking a deep breath, she repeated her earlier question, one hand ready to call the wind for defense in case this strange woman was hostile. "What were you doing beneath the earth?" By now, the sun was set completely, leaving the land colored in blues and purples; this time of day was always the most annoying, as it made her vision less clear. Definitely, she did not want to fight in such conditions, when everything blended into something else. Yet here they were, now suddenly a trio, and Alaku was curious as to why. "Are you...a demon?"

Ashoka jumped back. The man had been awfully loud, and her surroundings had been silent for the past three weeks. Her ears were not accustomed to such uproar.
"Sir, I understand your panic, but could you please keep it down? You're hurting my ears." The woman stood up and dusted her colorful clothing off, then shook his hand firmly," My name is Ashoka Raide. And I'm as human as they come, I promise." All of a sudden, Ashoka felt a little guilty for startling the two strangers. They seemed incredibly unsettled by her sudden appearance. She sensed that truthfulness would be an ally in this situation. "I've been exploring the catacombs under these ruins for a few weeks now. That cellar you got me out of is the entrance. I usually try to sleep there, you never know what you can find in thousand year-old ruins, am I right?"

I like knowing where I'm going...

Simon just watched an listened, he had no idea what would posess someone to take up residency of a cellar in an abadned ruined village, then again, some would question why he was clambering around a ruin looking for reasons as to why it was ruined, "Riddle me this one though, why does a place like this have catacombs? From what we've pieced together from a circle this village was being used to set the scene for a massive demonic ritual, what would be the point in catacombs?" it didn't make sense in his mind, there didin't seem to be a need for a catacomb... but that raised another question, if that place was large enough to warrant exploring... "Why was there only one entrance?..." he mumbled, it baffled him, perhaps there were more, but why would they interlink their houses via a catacomb? Light was getting scarce though so it was probably a smart idea to get someplace safe to sleep then come back tomorrow to ponder the mysteries of the ruins some more.

... but then again I almost never know where I'm going.

"No less than the favorite of a goddess, named Aḻaku."

As her shock wore off, Alaku listened to the woman's answer. Her name and clothing were unique, but she managed to focus on the what was being said. She was suprised, as it sounded like this girl, Ashoka, was an explorer. Had she been here for every day that Alaku was searching. Supressing a shiver, she tried to remain netural. After a few moments, she heard Simon's words. He made decent points, and she was eager to hear the response. Yet, the light was gone, and her tribe would be worried with their leader gone so unexpectantly. "It is dark now. Let me invite you to my home. We can talk more on the way, and there you can eat and sleep. Alright?"

Ashoka gave a small, relieved smile. No sleeping in the cellar for her, hopefully. Untold back pains were all that resulted from the sole suitable rock pile she had lately been sleeping on. The group set off toward whatever the woman's home was. The grass shivered as a wind swept through the sunset-bathed plains.
"Concerning why the catacombs were there in the first place, I have as good of an idea as you do. Really they were a little more like a huge system of caves with man-made touches, if you get what I'm saying. Your theory about a demonic ritual is probably correct. This is just me thinking, but I'd guess the use of the catacombs was connected with the rites and rituals an' whatnot." In her thought, Ashoka tripped over an unsuspecting rock, but kept walking like it was nothing, despite a badly stubbed toe. Probably was nothing. "The cellar entrance is more than likely not the only one. I just didn't get to the part where I surface successfully with riches untold, that's all." Ashoka gave an exasperated sigh. She had really been looking forward to that part of the exploration.

I like knowing where I'm going...

"I don't get it... I've never heard of underground places being used in conjunction with a summoning circle for a summoning ritual... there has to be a use for them that I'm overlooking..." Simon said, again lapsing into reciting his thoughts, "It would probably merit investigation... come morning time..." he said, weariness growing in his eyes, he believed he could trust Alaku, to a degree, but Ashoka he was unsure about, why would someone stay there for that long, even better why would anyone stay underground? That seemed impractical to say the least, he shook his head and followed on, curious about where Alaku's residence.

... but then again I almost never know where I'm going.
