West's glare didn't soften, but his tail did loosen from its death grip, lashing as it returned to its usual arc behind him. He inwardly squirmed at her scrutiny, but said nothing to distract her from staring, his brain flip-flopping once again between worrying that she was playing him somehow and feeling charmed by her apparent innocence.

"Yeah, works fine," he finally replied. "Y'look like a real... princess." Heh heh heh. The boil kept his eyes facing forward, the ghost of a smile finally returning to his face, and when Levi raised her hand and pointed at the skellyphone store, he nodded. "That's'it," he confirmed, "Buttit's not where I got mine." West had obtained his first phone at a fancy maul closer to home back when he had turned thirteen. It hadn't lasted long; a week later he had thrown it across the room in response to some slight or another. He had barely touched its replacement for a long while, in fact, he had only really messed around with his phone once he had arrived at Amity. There were more important things to do. Usually.

He stopped in front of the store, patting his shirt smooth before he pushed open the door. The attendant behind the counter seemed frightfully bored, but maybe that was the way this particular undead always appeared. The walls of the shop were positively crawling with phones, some quite literally skittering between their brethren in a bid for attention. So many. This was going to be more difficult than he had anticipated.

Princess

That's right- prom princess. West was never going to let that memory escape her. Levi felt it hindered her as a fighter to have her opponent see her dancing and gain such a ghouly title. At the same time, the tatzel ghoul was reminded that West sought her for a mate now. That was why you became boilfriend and ghoulfriend. She just shook her head in response, a smile unable to be withheld. It didn't last- but it was there, closely followed up by a glare for good measure. Would she ever do that again? If there was another dance, and there always seemed to be, would they be able to go together? They did at Scarentin- ... no, that couldn't have been how it happened. Denial was still forcibly telling the tatzel that she had gone it alone, surely.

West was something she imagined at her side that night. Levi had beaten that gnome good and gotten the Vampire Teddy for herself. Maybe she shoved it in his face a little bit because she could recall feeling her adrenaline pumping at some point that night, remembering what he looked like in detail. There was something sad about that night just as equally as she had felt that rush of anger. As the ghoul reasoned with herself internally, the question arose: Did she miss him perhaps back then? If there was a dance ... Levi was going to bite the bullet and see what it felt like. It had done well for her at the gym.

Hmm~! Her attention to the present returned when they entered the store. The attendant scratched at a shoulder, rotating it for comfort while a spider crawled out from between two stitches. If they wanted assistance, the two students would have to ask.

Levi's eyes widened. Reckon I can find one 'ere. Geeze, look it all'a 'em things. Walking about one wall, crouching to see the bottom-most row, Levi analyzed the bricks of technology. So... what's good one? Was there even a difference? They all were the same thing it looked like. She arose from her position, scanning each row and taking into account the colors. It was really the only defining element she could distinguish. A brick that was mobile waddled up to her ankle, flopping onto her foot and jumping off without any consideration of her even being there. Levi blinked, baffled that technology was also like some sort of infestation in this place. Eh... don't think one'a these sorts would be good fer keepin' in ma'pocket none. She didn't wanna let something she paid good silver for wander away on her.

"Yeah," he agreed, sidestepping one of the living phones as it trundled past his boot. "I, uh, dun think anyone needs a phone tha' can run away." He reached out, poking the power button on a nearby display model, one of the regular old stationary kind. It wasn't as fancy as his, but it seemed to have all of the usual phone-related bells and whistles. It was also a blinding shade of yellow, but maybe she would find a way to use it to blind humans or ward off overzealous color-sensitive ghosts or something.

"Look. It's'got solitaire," West added, as if that was somehow a draw. He glanced over at the attendant. "Aren't alla these the same really?"

The undead scoffed and shook his head. "Like a pathling's the same as a koobo. Like brains taste like tongue. Like a sock's the same as..."

"I get it," the demon replied, "Shut up." He pried the phone from its velcro base and held it out to Levi. "Here."

Oh- so they could be removed from their stands too. Levi looked from the attendant, who didn't move a muscle after West's retort, back to the demon boil's offered contraption. Thanks. The brick was a nice color, but as for where it held solitaire, the ghoul hadn't the foggiest idea. So it's got'a camera like yers. The interface of the touch screen had at least one icon that was known to her and she pointed to it rather intrigued by the familiarity. She was knowledgeable enough to recognize something on an eyephone like city folk. The tatzels back home would be amazed, she was sure of this. Buying an eyephone? Levi was going to be considered downright city herself.

Immediately after handling it and pressing at the volume buttons wondering what they did, Levi looked for a tag on it. So... this one is- Back at the stand, there was a whole bunch of technical stuff written out in point form, but there were different prices. Most with a red line over them; sale price? This was promising! She turned the yellow brick around and belatedly registered the pricing. Her error? Thinking the price was per use. Well Jack dang, boil. If'I knew them things were so expensive, wouldn't 'a used yer phone! The third time was the charm; Levi looked back at the information on this model and the annual plans finally having it click in: the prices were for years of use! No, wait- that couldn't be right either.

Turning it back up to its face, Levi saw her silhouette as well as West's in the shiny surface when the screen went black. Right- this was a way of communicating with West and, well, everyone of her friends. Somehow, this had to be a price she could pay. In an envelope in her pocket was a sum of seeds given to the ghoul to last her for quite a time at school. It was hidden in a care package from home ... which they undoubtedly suspected she'd use sparingly.
Bitting her lower lip, Levi's face clearly displayed the range of thoughts and analysis of what she was thinking of doing.

"You're buying that one?" The attendant piped in then, acknowledging her contemplation of a potential purchase, but not really getting up to assist just yet. His tone was also a little disappointed that she had chosen an older model rather than something new and more costly. "Don't have too many of those left in stock. Old model, you know? That's the only color there is too." Scratching the back of his flaking flesh at his neck, the undead boil half heartedly nodded his chin at the stand with the info. "It's all right there, just let me know when you want me to go grab one for you."

Levi raised a brow. This ain't what'I'm buyin'? This both confirmed she was indeed going to make the purchase and that she had thought that the demo was up for sale. The ghoul still had much to learn about shopping in the city.

He nodded. His expression might have remained largely the same, but West was tickled that she recognized the camera anyway. "Y'can send me pictures of..." He could think of several things she could take pictures of that he would like to see, but none of them were appropriate to speak of here and were probably too risky to have on his phone anyway. That didn't mean he couldn't think about them. Ahem.

"...stuff," he finished lamely. "An' they're not—" He wasn't quite sure exactly what she thought was expensive, and he supposed anything on that price tag would seem so to some, but it wasn't a big deal to him. And anyway, there was no way he was letting her pay.

West gestured at the salesman. "Yeah, she's takin' it." He reached over and tapped his first two fingers on the phone in Levi's hand. "This's fer ev'ryone t'look at b'fore they buy." He smiled slightly. "You getta nice clean one." It felt strange to be so invested what amounted to a distraction tactic, but he didn't like it when she was upset. Angry, yes. Upset, no.

The undead rummaged behind the counter for a moment, emerging with a box not much bigger than Levi's new phone. "Here you go. Now, how will you be paying?"
PostPosted: Mon Jun 18, 2012 10:46 pm

Oh. I'see. Levi held onto the phone tightly until West mentioned it was only a demo of the real thing. Okay- no need to guard it with her life. The real box she'd receive in her hands from the storage, though, was immediately clutched to her chest within her claws.

Nothing was getting this box out of her hands.

Payin' in seeds. Levi took out the envelope stuffed with seeds in a rather comically bloated manner.

"Where'd y'get that?" he asked, sticking a hand in his pocket as he stepped closer to the counter. She'd come to him. How had she known to bring... He hadn't thought he had given her time to think about the fact that they might be going somewhere where she'd need money. He wasn't prepared for her being so sneaky.

"I'm gonna... Put alla that away. 'S'not like y'even wanted th'damn thing." West pulled a credit card from his pants and flicked it onto the counter. "We're payin' withat."
PostPosted: Tue Jun 19, 2012 7:16 pm

In an act of exchange, a swift hand placed the toppling envelope on the counter while it took away West's card. Nuh-uh, no it'ain't. 'ERE... this'is how I'm payin'. Placing the card into her shirt where she kept her tiny candy corn pouch for safe keeping, Levi figured he'd have to be insane to try and retrieve it for use. Ya'already owe me fer somethin' else, boil. A straight exchange was what their deal required. This was not equal to that dress; West owed her a dress.

As this went on, the undead boil stood watching from the register, not sure what to make of what was going on. He was waiting for payment and a whole bunch of seeds had just been placed before him. The undead began to count them out with a sigh.

His hand trailed swiftly after hers a moment later, but he froze when he realized where it was going. "Give it—" West's fingers twitched in the air as if he was performing some sort of boob-related magic trick, but he was quick to relent, slamming his open palm onto the counter instead.

"Tease," he breathed, the word mixed in with a lengthy sigh. Once he was done pouting, West frowned slightly in confusion. "Wha'do I owe... oh. I, um... yeah."

One speechless wrath demon, coming right up.
PostPosted: Sun Jun 24, 2012 11:16 pm

Her tail swayed back and forth with enthusiasm at her triumphant capture of his card. Don'tcha worry, you'll get it back. kekeke~ His frowning phase was delightful; it reminded her of when they fought through sparring and the tatzel gained the upper hand on him. Tease? Maybe just a little.

West had forgotten about his owing her a dress? Aye, just 'cus we're-- ...uh... it don't change tha'fact that ya'killed ma dress, West. Dress fer'a dress. She kinda needed him to go with her if it was shopping that they were doing. There was no way in Jack's name she would know what to get on her own. Could use 'nother pair'a eyes too.

The boil at the register glanced up before gathering all the seeds. "Finally." With a clink and some strips of paper coming out of a machine, Levi was handed the receipt along with a warranty. "If anything happens within your year of purchase, although this one shouldn't run away, just print this back with the receipt and we'll...do something."

Nodding, the ghoul rolled up the two strips of paper and tucked them into her pocket. Thanks, boil!

"You're welcome... ghoul." As if beat by all that counting, the undead boil lazily sat back down on a stool behind the counter.

Levi tucked the eye phone box under one arm, turning to face West on their way out. So nothin' ya'll need ta'pick up? Oh! Right- She fished out the credit card again, flipping it at West through two fingers. Yer card, ya'sneaky demon yew. It was somewhat complimentary given Levi strived to excel in sneakiness.

"I didn't think it meant I didn' owe ya anymore," he muttered. "This." He gestured between them. "I jus'... fergot."

His debt was obviously close enough to his thoughts that he was able to recall it with a minor reminder, but this was the first time he could remember hearing that he had to replace her dress with another. Or that he'd have to help pick it out. The prospect was intriguing. West made a vague gesture at the cashier that might have been a thank you as he pushed open the door and headed back outside.

"Y'want my help witha dress? How'd'y'know I'll be any good at it?" He looked triumphant as he plucked his credit card from her fingers, as if she hadn't gotten the upper hand in keeping it from him in the first place. "An' no. I dun need anythin' else." He had needed to fill his head with something other than mopey miserableness and he had needed to see her. With both done, he could think of nothing pressing he had to accomplish at the moment.

She brushed her tail purposefully against his while opening the door. Doors had always been tricky; one too many times as a scarling, the tatzel got a door slammed on her tail. Such was a skill she and all her other tatzel kin had to learn. Being particularly careful about where she was in relation to West behind her, Levi flickered in such a way that the fuzzy white tendril retreated quickly in front of her as if hiding. A suspiciously enthralled smirk was what West would see when she turned to him back on the street. Oh sorry'bout that, did'I get'cha?

Levi hadn't even thought about doing it on purpose before but, after seeing West's reaction earlier, she just couldn't help herself. Just lil'ol me. There was that obvious fake innocence again ; Levi knew she did it. She would just never openly admit to showing an sort of obvious affection for the wrath demon in public. It was SO a mistake.

Gotta be doin' that sooner now than later. Prom seemed like it had just been the other day when in fact they were already off by just a months. Lizzy was an expert with this stuff; shopping with west might need to be done in advance if possible. Reckon yer- well, judgin' from yer dancin'- Yep, she saw him win that dance competition with Jericho. Ya'know how ta'pick somethin' ta move in.

The breath he took in was so abrupt that it almost sent West into a coughing fit. He covered his surprise with a slight frown, but it faded a moment later. It wasn't like his tail had never been brushed accidentally, but this, well...

He narrowed his eyes at the tatzel as she played the innocent act, the corners of his mouth rising in a predatory smirk.

...this hadn't been an accident.

West inched closer to Levi as he walked, his hands clasped behind his back and his eyes on anything but her. He could have easily slipped an arm around her waist, or rudely flicked her in the ear, or pulled her tail (if he had been quick enough to grab it), but he didn't.

Of course, part of the reason for that was because she was talking about prom. He swallowed. Prom. Right. "Mebbe I do," was all he offered. "But we're not talkin'bout me." Never mind the fact that he had asked her a question moments before that could have only been answered by talking about him. West continued in silence, sticking as close to the ghoul as he could get without actually touching her. It was a test. For him.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 04, 2012 3:38 pm

Why was he walking so closely? Proximity seemed to be a highlight as they walked this time. Levi thought of all the little things she could be doing right now: whipping West in the back of the knees with her tail, jabbing him in the back with a thumb, whacking him in the back of the head with the phone box...

No, the phone had been quite costly. It was probably for the best she didn't use that on the wrath demon's hard head.

I thought we were talkin' 'bout ya. Or at least, they'd been talking about how he owed her. Ya'know, when we get back, should make a date. I need yer number too, right? Make a date, make a date... the phasing sound so familiar, but Levi applied it to their going to the maul before prom arrived.

A few close calls were made as Levi's hips swayed to the movement of her tail, nearly hip-checking West. If he did get bumped, it was likely a light one caused by tail momentum. The unstoppable limb was as active as a snake lunging after some prey.

Something both new and intriguing was going on right now that the tatzel wasn't able to grasp. She wanted to do something to interact with West but didn't know what to do. Was she supposed to kiss him when they first met up today? Or did she do that after? Did they have to kiss each time they met? From what she could remember about newly mated kin, greetings with tails were sometimes followed by this action her mother explained. She'd try it again with West but- ...not today. Today she'd gone from one side of the emotional spectrum and back again. This could have been her reason. It could also have been that the tatzel ghoul was actually nervous about doing it again. Jack be damned if she showed it though.

Levi turned the box in her hands now, fidgeting.

He made it all the way back to the monster dorms without a teasing gesture or untoward movement of his hands. That meant he'd won, right? West let out a short sigh. He didn't know what sort of stupid game he was playing with himself, but he didn't feel like a winner. His fingers brushed the back of her upper arm as he stopped, and he turned to face her, his mouth smoothing out of its ever-present frown.

"A... uh... date. Yeah. Fer the maul? Uh huh. D'ya have a day in mind, or should I jus' call, or..." His arms lowered to his sides and he took a half step back. It seemed his brain's inability to unstick itself from one word in particular was turning him into a blabbering idiot.

Date. They hadn't had a proper one, had they? It was quite a thing to overlook. To be fair, there'd been quite a bit of genocide and insanity between when they'd started... this... and right now, but still. There would be a date. He was going on a date. West took a deep breath, and for a moment he might have appeared slightly worried. She'd better not make a fool of him. More than she was. Or purposefully. Whatever.

"The, um, number'll show up when I call," he said, pulling out his phone and turning it on. "I dun have yers though. Or a pen." He held out his hand for the box. "Lemme."
