The man chuckled. Not at the youth's instrumental choices, after all Adrian was a man who could appreciate any sort of music really and the boy was free to choose as he pleased, but rather at Luka's view on adoption. "I can understand why you'd think it was stupid, but this is how our modern world works. Things have to be...recognized in a governmental or rather legal means. In layman's terms it has to be in writing. Though for most people, it is mainly a ceremony of sorts. A solid, physical means to show or prove our love, our commitment, our loyalty for someone or something. We want everyone to know, to see. That's why we go out of our way to make a show of it."
He paused a moment, pondering whether the boy really got what it was he was driving at and then sighed. "Look at it this way Luka. It's like an animal marking its territory, just in a very different way. It's a deterrent to keep others from trying to take what they'd already claimed first."
"Granddad." Cordelia's voice suddenly interrupted as she floated back to them. "I've made my choices already. The sales man is waiting at the checkout for you."
"All right all right. I get the point. Credit card coming through." the elder man laughed lightly as he strolled off to pay for the items.
Turning to face Luka, Delia's dark lips were in pre-pout mode as she folded her arms over her chest. "What were you two talking about so seriously just now?"

Luka stared at Adrian intently as the older gentleman spoke. And while he found the old man's answer to be thoughtful, he also found it equally ridiculous that this government entity had to acknowledge it as well. Family was a private matter, not something for the eyes of the public.
"No it's not. Animals don't mark others as their own." He commented dryly. Or at least, there was no mention of it in any of the National Geographic documentaries he'd watched.
When Cordelia returned, Luka turned his attention onto the Basilisk. "I asked him why people adopt." His liquid-gold orbs turning to catch her own smoky ones. "It was nothing very important." He explained. "So what are you getting Cordelia?" The youth asked.

It was of course a metaphor yet Adrian felt it would perhaps be a bit over the boy's ability to comprehend even if he did try to explain. Thus not wanting to get into a petty argument with a child, the old man left the two Raevans to themselves while he went to pay for his granddaughter's purchases.
Cordelia gave the satyr a bit of an uninterested blink at the subject of adoption. With the way her family was it was rather common place and wasn't something of great interest to her. Why should anyone care so greatly why people adopted? It was a good thing right? Someone needs a home, someone has one and wants a family thus adoption. Why need an explanation for something so simple and straight forward.
Yet she perked up at Luka's question, "I'm getting a laptop computer and a cell phone! Didn't I say that earlier?" Delia tapped a finger to her chin in thought. Had she said that or did she merely think it? She was starting to think she was getting forgetful especially since she couldn't remember if the boy had told her what he was there for. "Uhh, what was it you were getting again?"

"Did you? I must have not been paying very good attention. Sorry," Luka replied, giving Cordelia a genuinely apologetic look. At her question, the Satyr smiled. "Stereo speakers. I want better speakers for my room."
Lately he'd taken an interest in decorating his room, and Elai had been surprisingly accommodating. They'd repainted the walls, added some posters of the Raevan's choosing, and even moved the furniture around. At which point, Luka had decided that he'd wanted to get a good stereo system in room; Something that could match the one his guardian had in the living room.
"Do you use a laptop very often?" He asked. While Luka was familiar with using a computer, the youth never really used one outside of when staying at the clinic with his guardian. At home, he turned his attention to the TV, the piano or playing with the cat. "What do you do on the laptop? I normally get bored very quickly on a laptop." He explained.
His familiarity with the internet only extended to youtube and google, both of which could only entertain him for so long. "But, Elai spends a lot of time on his desktop. He is always typing." Finding himself talk to much, the Satyr couldn't help but change the topic. "What kind of phone are you getting? Elai has an iPhone. We play games on it a lot. Do you know Angry Birds?"
It was one of his favorite games. He wasn't very good at it, but it was fun all the same watching the little fat birds blow up the equally fat piggies.

"That's cool." Stereo speakers! Why hadn't she thought of that?! Well there was no way she was going to get any now. Not after getting a phone and computer from Adrian and with those Ebony was probably going to be fuming for a few days thus wouldn't be doing anything extra nice for her adopted daughter anytime soon.
"No like I said earlier my guardian doesn't let me use it often. That's why I asked my grandfather for one of my very own. He's more understanding and loves tech. Plus if he gets it my woman can't really say much about it, though that doesn't mean she won't be pretty ticked off for awhile." Delia gave a tiny pout at the thought of Ebby sulking like she knew she would, but there really wasn't anything she could do about that. Her woman would just have to get over it, that's all. "Anyway I want my own computer so I can learn more about the world. I went to London not that long ago and it made me realize how big the world really was and how little I really knew about it."
Cordelia opened her mouth to answer about the phone when her grandfather came up and responded in her stead, "She got an iPhone as well. To match the Apple laptop obviously." The man held up the huge handled white box with the big gray apple on the side as proof.
"Yup that's right. And no, I don't know what Angry Birds is because this will be my very first cell phone. But I assume it's some kind of game?"
"Well my dear if you're ready to go we're all set. Luka is your guardian coming to meet you soon? We could stay and keep you company until he or she shows up if you'd prefer?"

"Yea, it's a game. You shoot little birds to blow up fat pigs that stole their eggs." The Satyr couldn't help but snicker at his own explanation of the game. It sounded ridiculous. "It's a lot of fun, you should try it. I'm not very good at aiming the birds, but Elai is really good. He beat all the levels and got three stars on everything." He paused for a second, trying to think of other games he could recommend to the Basilisk. "There are other fun games too though like Fruit Ninja and Gravity Guy."
When Adrian mentioned his guardian, Luka paused. "No, I'm here by myself. I told Elai I wanted to come by myself, like an adult." he explained. "But, I think I'll just have to wait for him to come back. These stereos are expensive, and I don't want to make him angry by buying something he doesn't approve of." The Raevan explained. Of course, it was no small feat that his guardian had given him the credit card for today either.
"He should be stopping by any time soon...."
At those very words, the electronic boutique's door swung open to let in a tall man very familiar to Luka.
"Elai!" Luka called out, waving at his guardian to grab the acupuncturist's attention. "Over here!"
Hearing his name, Jezabroux quickly spotted his charge in the company of two strangers. He took long quick strides before reaching Luka. When he saw the two strangers up close, Jezabroux couldn't help but smile. It was a young lady and what was possibly her grandfather or even just father. "Friends, Luka?" He asked.
"Sort of, yea. You could say they're friends." Luka paused before realizing it was his guardian's way of asking for an introduction. "Cordelia, Adrian, this is Elai my guardian. And Elai, this is Cordelia and her grandpa Adrian. Cordelia is a raevan too." Luka added, not wanting to leave out the important bit.
"A pleasure to meet you, Miss Cordelia and Mr. Adrian." The acupuncturist said with a smile, sticking out his hand in Adrian's direction for a handshake.

Cordelia simply nodded to the boy's recommendations. Honestly she probably wouldn't be trying any of them, Angry Birds more specifically since it just didn't sound like her kind of game, not that she had much experience with video games after all. Now that she had something to play them on she should probably at the very least familiarize herself with some of them.
Both Cordelia and Adrian turned their heads in the direction Luka was now waving in. Even without the help of the light Frei, one would be hard pressed to not notice the boy's guardian. Tall and lean with an unusual streak of snow to his otherwise obsidian locks, not to mention the obvious patch completely covering up one of his eyes, Elai was a hard man to miss.
"Luka I don't think you had to add that. It's pretty obvious that I'm a Raevan." Delia snorted with a roll of her eyes and a wave of a hand towards her missing lower half. "Ello Elai, it's nice to meet you."
Taking the younger man's hand in a firm shake, "Likewise Mr. Elai. I hate to be rude so suddenly, but we were actually on our way out now. Hope you don't mind?"

At Delia's comment, Jezabroux couldn't help but chuckle. "Quite a sassy lady I see, Miss Cordelia." His attention settling back to the older gent.
"Not at the least, Mr. Adrian." Jezabroux said with a smile. "I'm in a bit of a rush myself sadly, perhaps another day we'll have a chance to become more familiar with one another." Giving the man an apologetic look, he placed a hand on Luka's shoulder. "Goodbye and have a good day, Miss Cordelia, Mr. Adrian."
"Oh, good bye, Cordelia, Adrian." Luka said slowly, giving the Raevan and her grandfather a wave. "Hope to see you again." Although he would've liked to watch their retreating figure, he found himself being corralled to the exit by his guardian. Elai must've really been in a rush.
Taking one last look over his shoulder at Cordelia and Adrian, Luka followed after his guardian.
