Hel grabbed her shake and took a long sip of it as she followed after Riyo, sliding into the booth seat across from her and slouching as she just sipped more of her shake.

The ghoul raised a brow at Riyo’s words, waiting to hear what she had to say about her being…right, because in all honestly she felt anything but right lately. Now…if Riyo had told Hel this prior to losing her wings…she’d probably be tap dancing on the table proclaiming loudly that she had told her so…but luckily she did no such thing. Hel just sipped her shake, waiting until Riyo was finished before nodding her head a bit, and even smiled softly. “I think…I want to believe that this is why we are here.” Not at this milkshake parlor…but here at Amity. “…Because we all want something better. You being here…I think is a first step in the journey to battle towards it.”

Geeze, when did Hel get so mature? Don’t worry Riyo, it probably wasn’t going to last long…or else you just disarmed her egotistical streak with your honesty and non-aggressiveness.

Woah woah woah wait, hold the phone. Hel wasn't gloating? Was she sick or something? The feline looked up at her with a perplexed gaze as her words were soft-spoken and heartfelt. It was both disconcerting and... Sort of a relief. Riyo had braced herself for the happy rant about how the valkyrie was right and she was wrong.

This was nice, though. "Yeah. Something better." She had come here looking for that. Searching for a good way to interface with people. Though, now that she had made friends by doing it her own way, she realized it wasn't necessary. That trying to be civil with people who didn't understand wasn't necessary. They either liked her or hated her.

"I'm gonna find it, Hel. My something better." Riyo's hands moved to rest on her legs as she managed to sit up straight. There wasn't shame on her face anymore. No distaste for the conversation. She seemed determined. Hopeful even. "I hit the bottom of my pit. Now.. The only way to go is up." It wasn't all hopeful though. For just a second, she looked worried. Worried that what she was going to do would end up halting all progress completely.

That, however, didn't matter right now.

"Enough about where I am, though." Never thought she'd say that. "How are you, Hel?" Besides the obvious. Riyo tried to focus on the valkyrie's face and not where her wings used to be. It was like trying not to look at a mole on someone's nose or a stray appendage growing in a strange place. It made her feel bad for noticing even if it was a natural thing to do.

Hel was probably feeding off of Riyo’s calm and straightforward attitude. If the cat demoness started getting agitated, odds were Hel would have too. The reaper was a simple creature once one figured out her patterns. She placed her shake on the table for the time being, and then leaned forward, resting her head on a hand as she leaned on the table as well, listening to Riyo. Hel was grinning softly at her words. “Good. I am glad you are. Good luck to you, friend. It is a long and perilous journey, but ah, it would not be worth it if it was not, ya?” She drummed her fingers lightly on the table top. “…You are not alone in this journey either.”

As the conversation was turned over to her, the ghoul let out a long sigh and stretched before leaning back in her seat and flopping back against it once more.

Eh…” Hel reached for her shake and took another sip, staring out the window. “…I am still existing, so that is always a good thing, ya? Though…truthfully, friend…I think I am in the pit…but I think…I am still falling.”

"No, it wouldn't be. You reap what you sew, after all." An idea Riyo held very close nowadays. That the fruits of someone's later would inevitably earn the same response tenfold, whether it meant pure bliss or devastation.

Listening to Hel reciprocate her own answers, the feline sipped on her vanilla shake and paid close attention.

It seemed odd.

As if the two had switched places on the ends of the emotion spectrum. Hel tried to appear as if she would be okay, but did she really think so? Moreover, what could Riyo say? It didn't feel right to tell her reaper friend everything would be alright, just as nobody would've been able to tell Riyo and have her wholeheartedly believe it.

When Hel stopped talking, the bakeneko's eyes sunk to the table, carefully calculating something to say. "Existing doesn't always seem like a good thing." Riyo admitted, quick to follow up on her words. "There have been times when I wished I could just cease existing. Stop thinking. Halt at being anything but FEAR. I wanted to melt into the universe and embrace a lack of emotion, to be at peace."

It looked like the ghoul was being consumed by her thoughts. "Perhaps that's just me. Everyone handles it differently. Both the pain and the cold numbness that follows. Just know Hel that you too can reap what you sew, and with all the seeds you managed to plant in the hearts of your comrades, I think it's safe to say they'll always be waiting for you at the top of that pit."

I agree whole heartedly.” Hel murmured. One did indeed reap what they sowed.

The ghoul kept staring out the window, idly sipping her shake until Riyo spoke up again. The straw hung on her lips as her gaze shifted back over to her. She listened quietly, looking thoughtful at the idea of being at peace. Now, Hel came from a culture where that was a silly notion. Even when valkyries and Nordic grim reapers died, they believed that after their death, they sat in the halls of Valhalla, feasting and training for the final battle. That didn’t sound very peaceful.

But the idea of being…content with one self...that kind of peace…that sounded nice.

What Riyo said next though, had absolutely floored Hel. The ghoul paused, going wide eyed as surprise was apparent on her features.

… with all the seeds you managed to plant in the hearts of your comrades, I think it's safe to say they'll always be waiting for you at the top of that pit..

Hel’s chest felt tight, and if she had been the sobbing kind of ghoul, she’d be crying like a little b***h right now. Instead, the look of surprise eased, and a small smile pulled at her lips. “Heh.” She reached out and placed a hand over the top of Riyo’s. “Whether they are good or bad, right?” She mused. “…Thank you, Riyo.” It was a sincere thanks.

"Right." Perhaps if both of them had been weaker ghouls, their milkshakes would've had an extra layer of salt water to balance out the sweetness. "Yeah, yeah. Whatever." Riyo mumbled, though there was a little crack of a smile peeking through. She gave Hel's hand a gentle pat and left it at that. Tender moment over. No need to be sissies. The feline had done her good deed for the year that didn't benefit herself.

"Lets change the topic. Talk about something else." Half way through the wretched milkshake. Jack, why did it have to be so sweet? "You going to that prom thing?"

It was a good talk, friend.” Hel returned, grinning a bit now and let go of Riyo’s hand after she gave hers a pat. Yup. They were not sissies…and why was it no one saw them when they were like this? Maybe that’s just how Riyo and Hel operated. The cat demoness would be getting a hug later for sure though.

“…Ah…prom?” Once again, with everything going on…it hadn’t really been a thought in Hel’s mind…not with everything else going on. “..Eh…I suppose…Are you?” Mot hadn’t asked her too…that’s what boilfriends were supposed to do, right? Was she just supposed to just show up?

Truth be told, Riyo probably couldn't have given such honest advice had they been around the presence of others. Every time she said something remotely thoughtful to Hel, it was either aside or just the two of them. Like a secret BFF relationship or something. Subconsciously, she liked it that way.

The valkyrie's reaction didn't surprise her as much as it might've to others. Sure, Hel was a ghoul, but she had more important things to do than worry about some silly formal. They had both clarified that neither of them were particularly ghouly.

"Uh... Yeah, actually. Someone asked me to go." You know...

Maybe this wasn't a good change of subject. It was one of those times where Riyo had wished she thought before she spoke, because if Hel was even the least bit interested, she'd want to know who asked. What uh... What now?

Nervously the ghoul bit at the straw of her drink and glanced away. Well, Hel had been more than accepting today. Maybe this wouldn't really phase her. "goingwithtitus" A loud cough followed as if to cover up her bad answer.

Hel sipped her shake, raising a brow as Riyo suddenly seemed…avoidant of the topic. “Oh…? That is good, ya?” She waited to hear about who had asked Riyo to prom, and did find herself rather curious. Who would Riyo agree to go wi—

No. No she did not just hear that.

The reaper had been tugging on her straw idly, and it fell from her lips as she stared at Riyo wide eyed.

Cue explosion in three…two…

WHAT!?”

One.

Hel ended up crushing the cup in her hand…thank goodness she had downed most of her shake already, but that didn’t stop some small splatters of left over shake ending up on the ghoul. “Riyo! You are way too good for that a** hat!” Hel wailed.

So much for the peace.

No, Riyo didn't like that face. She didn't like that face at all. The look of bewilderment was good when someone was saying something profound.

This was trouble.

Immediately the ghoul's hands covered her ears as she flinched from Hel's yelling. s**t.

"Yes Hel. ******** Titus." The ghoul shouted back, brows furrowing. "Skeleton Jack, cool your jets!" It was hard to be angry back. Riyo halfway understood why the reaper was mad. If her past self from when she'd just met the boil was here, She'd probably kick her own a**.

"He's not-" Okay, no. He WAS that bad. Riyo's face did little to hide her frantic search for an explanation to why she had said yes. "It's just-" s**t. Uhh...

"He doesn't... Bother me as much... I guess." The ghoul's hands rested on the table as she started to twiddle her fingers. "He's a terrible person. An awful b*****d of a boil who only wants to make people miserable, and for some indiscernible reason... I'm okay with that." Wasn't much of an answer, she supposed.

And what the hell did it mean to be too good for someone anyways?

Titus’ pointy ears were ringing wherever he was, certainly.

Cool my jets!?” Hel cried back, leaning forward now as she rubbed a hand over her face to get some milkshake off of it. “I can not believe you are going with that ******** p***k! That…snaky s**t attitude snaggled tooth son of a witch!” She hissed. “Do not even try to defend him!” She pointed a finger at her. “That asswipe had the nerve to imply that he and I were swapping spit in a romantic notion in front of Mot! When in truth the b*****d had spit in my face during a battle!” Hel did fall silent, only for a moment, as Riyo went on to talk about it.

Uuuuuuugh…unbelievable…” Hel flopped back into her seat once more, blowing some of her bangs out of her eyes as she grumped. The reaper tossed her crushed cup onto the table surface, crossing her arms now as she glared at Riyo. “…Well…you are old enough for your own decisions…it is your choice…just know I am not pleased.”

As Hel went on her rampage about the obvious, Riyo sat quietly and finished off her drink, trying to look completely neutral. It was hard, though. The image of Titus spitting in Hel's face did strike her as... Just a little bit funny. Just a little. "Who would really believe that?" The ghoul figured Mot would've certainly taken Hel's side. That's what people in relationships were supposed to do, wasn't it?

When the reaper sat back down in her chair, Riyo let out a sigh. "Look. I'm not trying to defend him. Like I said, he's an a**... But he did ask me when nobody else would've. Obviously not out of pity because he doesn't have that." Which was one of the reasons she didn't despise him.

"And... It's not like I'm interested!" The feline added as an afterthought, tail giving a little twitch. "Like I said before, I don't want a relationship." ... Right? Right. She didn't want anything like that. Nope. Not Riyo. She was going to be foreveralone for the rest of her days. This was no man's land right here.

... Yep. She uh... She wasn't interested. "He's.. Just an acquaintance."

Mot did!” Hel exploded again. “Mot believed him! Mot thought I was really getting friendly with him!” That still bothered her. Stupid Titus. Hel crossed her arms again and stared at Riyo rather unimpressed.

Uh huh.” The ghoul flat toned. “Who are you trying to persuade here, friend? Me or you?”
PostPosted: Tue Jun 19, 2012 12:47 pm

Riyo's brows raised. Mot had really believed Titus? Why? The fact that Titus lied about things was as true as the pumpkin sun rising in the sky or bubbles rising from the swamp bottom. The cowboil wasn't really that stupid, was he?

The question Hel posed made Riyo stiffen. Oh, she hated questions like that, because the latter was generally true. She was trying to convince herself. "I don't need a man to come in and ruin my life. I've done quite a good job of it so far myself." The ghoul declared and held her nose up in the air. "I don't need hugs, or kisses, or cuddles, or ear scratches, or any of that bullshit! I'll receive my emotional nourishment from watching my enemies cry while I take my revenge out of their asses... And stuff." Just as it had been. Just as it always would be. Shoving herself up, the ghoul threw her empty cup at the garbage. 2 points.

"I don't understand why you even bother if Mot takes some douchebag's word over yours... Seems like that hurts more than it helps."
