Rahkain

PostPosted: Thu Jun 14, 2012 12:32 pm

Rahkain Grimword-Ranger and seller of the odd this and that.

Good, he recognizes me, the ranger thought to himself. He smiled at the laguz, responding a typical "Pretty good," to the question of how he'd been.
As Rahkain had previously thought, Rajin explained that Eyris was planning to go to war again. And, again, had invited everyone to come along.
Swallowing a little, he asked "You would think they'd have an official army for all of this. Do they always ask who else wants to go to war? And... retake Pentheus from who?". However, he knew the answer was probably your people, of course, you crazy b*****d.

Rahkain perked up when Rajin asked about the wares in his bag. He smiled. "Well, I don't have any iron. I do have Vulneraries, though." He walked over to his backpack and dug through it. "So, you get the comrade price." He chuckled. Digging some of the potions out of his bag, he stood and stepped back over to Rajin. "So you're off to Sentria then... This might be a bit of an odd question, but... Have you heard from Leon? Do you know what he'll be doing?"

Ladies how about a lovely dinner?

Sain had listened to Rath's speech and was amazed. He never heard the man talk for more than a few words. He was still as serious as ever. The paladin was still wondering how someone like Rath got to where he is. He was also sure the man didn't have facial hair when he saw him last.

The paladin stocked up on items, mostly lances and vulneraries. There was though a voice that sounded a bit like Kent yelling at him to get a sword, so he made sure he got a steel sword.

Sain then noticed Isadora and Wallace. It had been a while since he had seen either of them in a long time. He started to make his way to them on Homeros (FYI that's was I decided to call his horse).

"Lady Isadora! Sir Wallace!" He shouted as he made his way to them.

Great General Wallace

~Valor is the contempt of death and pain.~

Wallace

"The old viper's given me a task I am quite well suited to, the training of Learania's army. I've whipped them into as good of shape as I could in the short time I've had at the scrawny lot of them, but I dare say they'll give these Sentrian bandits a better fight than what I saw they did during the Siege. With time I could whip them into a force to deter or strike down any foe!" Wallace smiled with a bit of pride in the men he had trained.

Returning his attention Isadora he said "I umm... found myself here in the middle of the Siege of Eyris, I opened the door to my house in Ilia after a brisk jog of 5 miles and walked onto the streets of Eyris much to my surprise. There I ran into this little girl with a rather large sword, her name escapes me at the moment." He paused, trying to figure out her name , then shrugged and continued,"Anyways she told me who was on the side of righteousness in this war and I decided on the spot to help the Learanians and their allies! I was under the impression that this was a dream, and it still feels a bit like a dream to me. It's good to see another familiar face from Elibe, I've seen so few of us. I agree, those mercenaries seemed entirely too disciplined to be mercenaries it smacks of military or nobility..." His voice trailed off at the end when he was suddenly startled by the sound of another voice he never expected to hear again.

He winked at Isadora and turning towards Sain's voice he glared and, stomping up to the green-armored paladin, slipped into his drill instructor voice, "Sain! You miserable excuse for a knight! How dare you abandon your duties as a knight! Running off to other worlds! I'm going to kick your worthless arse all the way from Eyris to the very gates of Mordache!" At that last bit Wallace grabbed the smaller man in a bear hug and lifted him bodily off his horse. "Gwahahahahahaha! Good to see you ya lout!" He set Sain down on the ground and smacked a hand down on Sain's shoulder, "How've you been ya scoundrel? Still chasing after skirts I suppose? This is turning into a very good day indeed if I see two familiar faces from Elibe! I only hope it gets better!" He smiled broadly at his two comrades from a different time and a different world.

~So, I'm to die in battle, am I? I regret nothing! Ha ha ha...ha ha...~

Roy had been busy since the siege, with his duties as a Host in the Host Club as well as tending to his own personal matters. The young lord had gotten a wardrobe change, but decided against using the shoulder guard or whatever that thing was at the side. The shoulder cape was also a bit too flashy for travel, so he decided against it too. He changed up his personal training schedule to focus more on his studies, because that was what his father and Cecilia would have wanted. He hadn't seen Lilina much, but he was certain that she was studying hard too, but not in the same material as him. After all, she was an anima user, and he was a swordsman. His studies did include some combat practice, in which he asked Oujay to help out whenever the man was free. He started using other weapons, realizing that he couldn't rely on the Flame Sword, and after months of trial and error, finally gained some basic training in the use of axes. They certainly weren't like swords (or lances from when he trained under Marcus back in Elibe), so it took some time to adjust.

But it wasn't just combat that he studied. He also took interest in politics. Should he ever find a way back to Elibe and Pherae, he would have to lead his people as the marquess. Of course, with things the way they were now, there was no rush, and it would probably be best if he at least stayed up to date with the current happenings in Learania politics.

But enough of that.

"Pentheus, huh? I might tag along." he said.

He noticed a familiar redhead in the group, but the elder dragon looked as though he didn't want to talk. So the nephew held his tongue and chose not to greet his dear uncle.

"Wah! It's Rajin~"

Sunil bounded up towards the fellow Laguz, a grin plastered on his face and tail aswish. The Watch was asked to help out with this task, and Sunil was all excited about his first mission. They had learned that Sunil wasn't always able to stay in his Beast form during combat, so they had graced the cat with a pair of sturdy leather greaves (as he was not fond of the smell of iron). That way he could at least fight back in his humanoid form. He supposed gauntlets could also work, but greaves allowed for more versatility in combat. After all, a punch could only strike so many places.

"It's been a while. Have you been doing well?" the cat asked.

User Image"...Alright, come on, it's just Rath. No big deal... just go in... and ask him... Okay...!" As Abel went to open the door to Rath's office inside the castle, it suddenly began opening from the other side. Abel stepped back and looked up. "...Rath, hey, I-"

"Whatever it is, it will have to wait. Find me later."

As Rath began to move down the hall, Abel quickly followed. "Yeah, see, I figured you might say that, but it'll just take me one minute, I promise." Noticing that Rath was still walking, Abel rushed ahead and stood in his path. "Okay?"

"..." Rath stared at Abel. He could have waited until the boy moved out of his way, he certainly had more patience, but not the time to waste. "...You have one minute. Proceed."

Abel smiled and continued walking with him. It was a small victory, but it gave him the chance to actually talk. "Well, you see, I couldn't help but hear what you said in the town square earlier aaaand-" Abel spun around an obstacle in his path and hurried to catch up with Rath, who was walking much faster. "Uh, so I just wanted to offer up the services of my mercenary-"

"No."

...Well, that didn't last long. "W-Why not!? We're good! If you just give us a chance, then I-"

Rath turned around and glared menacingly at Abel. "You know very well why not, do not take perceive me a fool. You may be fine for the entire journey, but once we got to that moment when we are able to confront Drake, I know very well what you would plan to do. I will not allow you to recklessly endanger the lives of the other guild members in your group, nor your own. And I certainly will not let your actions cause sadness and pain to a certain little girl and her mother."

Abel furrowed his brows. "If anybody could understand, it's you! First my brother... and then, because of this war, Aidan...!" He gritted his teeth and looked to the ground. "I refuse to let this continue... I refuse to let him get away with his crimes!"

"Don't try to bring justice into this." Rath scorned. "You're not seeking justice, you're seeking revenge. And if I allow you to continue like this, you will only bring about your own demise. You tried fighting him before and nearly died because of it. Captains Ghis and Dan did die fighting him. Amelia fought him, I fought him, many people have tried to bring him down and they all failed." Rath paused, staring at Abel, and wondering if anything he was saying was sinking in. "You cannot defeat him on your own."

"...Fine, don't hire me... You can't stop me from coming...!"

"..." Rath turned away from Abel, disappointed, and unwavering towards the threat against his authority. "Consider yourself under house arrest, should you try. The rest of your group are free to volunteer and come along if they want, but they will have to do it without you. That is my final word." Rath resumed walking. "Your minute is up."

Abel remained silent as Rath walked away. Once he was gone, Abel angrily slammed a fist against the wall and then rested his back on it. His head sunk. "...I'll find a way. Just you wait."

Whether it was cruel or harsh was irrelevant and he held firm to his decision. It needed to explanation. Were Rath convinced that the boy was not set upon revenge at any cost, things would be different and his group would be at the top of the list for hire. However, as things stood, his group did not even make the list. In its place, another group stood out, one Rath had already sent a message to last night. He had heard positive things regarding the mercenary group in question and it was certainly one of the largest around. He was headed over to their headquarters to check on the confirmation of their service.

Through the streets he went, unopposed, wasting no time to stop and chat. This is was one of his more important tasks to accomplish. Eventually, he arrived at a building and knocked on the door. Once it opened, he looked his greeter in the eyes. "I've come to see the leader of Cloak... we have a contract to confirm."

"No, Iris, I don't know when he's going to be in today!" Light footsteps rapidly approached the door and stopped. "Who, Rei? No, Rei's been gone for a while-- Oh, no, not Rei. Okay, okay, not Rei! Wait, why are you asking specifically about Rin? I don't know when she'll be in today! I think she came in really early this morning and I walked home with her so she could get a nap, I don't even know if she slept last night." The door opened and Blossom stood in front of Rath - and below him, given the height difference. "Yeah, she's-- How may I help-- O-Oh! Rath!"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Blossom looked up at the guild Captain and turned a faint pink in embarrassment before seeming to gather her composure again. Their brief meeting atop the hill at Aidan's grave had apparently not been forgotten. "Hello, sir! Do you-- Oh. Lance. Yes, of course! Will you wait-- actually, no." She paused, thinking momentarily, and gestured for him to enter. "Come in. I don't know how long he'll be, it's a bit chaotic in here right now, lots of stuff going on, of course. I'm sure you can understand. Come in, sit, please! I'll go get Lance and be right back. Sorry for any delay!" Blossom smiled apologetically to Rath. Her skirt kicked up as she ran around the corner and out of sight.

"Lance? Hey, Lance! Rath's-- Yeah, I know you're busy," Blossom could be faintly heard saying from somewhere down the hall. "Rath is here. He needs to talk to you. A contract you two have to confirm? He's waiting in the main room right now--"

Silence fell momentarily. Blossom reappeared in short order, smoothing her skirt down as she walked over to Rath, smiling more naturally now. "Just a sec. He's comin' out of his, uh, his office."

User ImageAbel had made a very persuasive pitch back when he was trying to get Blythe to join his mercenary group at the Eyris Job Fair. Joining up allowed the healer to participate in jobs where he’d be healing his companions rather than clients specifically, which largely diversified the array and nature of jobs he could participate in. It also provided more opportunities to travel for work, which was always a plus for the precocious Troubadour. More than anything else though, was the value of working in numbers; Blythe was not one of those hotheads who overestimate their abilities winding up unnecessarily endangered that somehow frequently get depicted as heroes… or martyrs. And the fact of the matter was that as a healer-for-hire unable to use weapons or offensive magic, Blythe very frequently was unable to effectively defend himself – and it had inhibited his opportunities and various courses of action both back in Magvel and even during his short time thus far in Learania. But in quite the demonstration of symbiosis, having competent fighters around him would ensure that when traveling with the group he joined, there would be those who could defend him, allowing him to reach the places he needed to for work safely, and conversely, Blythe would be able to ensure his comrades would get there safely as well and remain in good shape throughout whatever work they might come across.

Obviously it worked. Here Blythe was, now a part of a mercenary group, albeit on a trial basis for the time being. And that was something he never imagined he’d be a part of. But hey, everybody loves having a healer around. And, well… maybe Blythe wanted to be around people more than he was used to growing up. He never exactly had opportunities for friends growing up. And maybe being a part of a group might change that. Not that that was why he accepted, mind you! Blythe is a professional before anything! He doesn’t account for such a factor in pursuing work; work is work!

Character development and necessary context-setting exposition aside, there Blythe was, mounted on Cesario when Rath gave the announcement he had. When the nomad had finished, Abel was supposed to go talk to him and offer their mercenary services back at the castle. Blythe remained at the edge of the castle grounds to await any news from Abel. The Troubadour had no interest in entering such a distasteful and decadent building where nobles and such were present, his passionate distaste for their kind still very much intact since winding up in Learania.

It had been a while more. Blythe was quite anxiously wondering how things had gone. “Carrot, Cesario?” he spoke to his closest companion as he started feeding his horse companion.

Clara Risna
-----------------------------------------

Back in Arajudia Abel had convinced Clara to join his mercenary group. After thinking about it, she joined. She really didn't have a stable position and living where she was was getting uncomfortable for her.

She had heard the announcement from Rath and knew Abel was going to offer their services to the Nomad. So like Blythe she had stayed at the castle grounds to see if Abel got them the job. She wasn't to fond of nobles and their strict and stuffy rules and whatnot.

The myrmidon was currently up in a tree looking and waiting to see if Abel was coming, but after a while she had gotten a little impatient. She jumped out of the the tree and made her way over to her companion.

"Abel's been in there for a while now," She said, "Think he's ok in there Blythe?"

"They do have official army. It's just that they either have shitty soldiers who don't know how to battle properly or they don't have enough army when the population are cowards or don't know how to fight." Rajin shrugged. He didn't know much about the army except how to discipline after being drilled by his old man. But this was a different world he lived in, not the world where he was born and grew up. "Just be glad that they're asking for volunteers and not drafting people into the war."

When he heard Rahkain asked about Pentheus, he cocked his eyebrow at him. "Haven't you hear what that nomad was saying? They're trying to retake Pentheus from Sentrians. Learania and Sentria keep fighting over the same city over and over. It's becoming a nuisance if you ask me."

Suddenly, he heard Rahkain explained what he was carrying as well as good offer. The tiger let out a grin. Sweet, discount. That what he liked to hear from shop. And if he had enough gold, maybe he could afford a steel gauntlet instead of iron.

Just when the tiger was about to ask how much the vulneraries were, Rahkain questioned about Leon. But before Rajin could answer, he heard someone calling out his name. Turning his head around, he saw a grinning cat approached him. What made that cat laguz so hype up? He had no idea. However, he hoped it wasn't the catnip again. Otherwise, the kitty may need to take a bath again.

"Same old, same thing. Working, traveling, and lazying around." Rajin replied as he took out few gold out of his pouch. "Of course, somehow I got drafted into some army. Don't ask how or why. Anyway, I'm planning about going to Sentria. What about you, Sunil? What are you going to do?"

He then turned to Rahkain. "So Rahkain, how much are the vulneraries?"

Isadora let out a smile as she listened to how Wallace settled in the Guard. Same old Sir Wallace. Always making sure that the soldiers are able to defend the country. She then pondered if Wallace would end up just like Sir Marcus. From what she heard from Roy, Sir Marcus still served his service to Pherae during the young lord's time, despite how old he was. It made her wonder if men like Sir Marcus and Sir Wallace ever thought about retiring and settle down.

The Dame Knight continued listened as Wallace told her his tale of how he came to Learania. A little girl with a large sword... Isadora thought. She had a feeling who Wallace was talking about, but she decided not to bring it up. After all, it would be rude to interrupt someone's story.

"Quite true, Sir Wallace. It feels like a dream when coming to this world. But after you settle down and get used to it, you'll feel like you've lived here." The paladin smiled. Oh... She remembered how she felt when she first came to the world. It felt like a dream as well as being lost and cautious. The Dame Knight was thankful that she came to Learania where she met those she's familiar with as well as those who were friendly. If she landed in other places such as Sentria or Mordache, who knew what would happen to her.

When she heard Wallace commented about the mercenaries Rath hired. But before the Dame Knight could reply, she heard someone calling them.

Turning around, she spotted Sain trotting toward them. She then noticed Wallace giving her the wink before heading toward the green paladin, shouting and later gave him a bear hug. Isadora laughed a little as she shook her head. She never thought she would see Wallace having a humor side.

"Sain, it's a pleasure to see you." Isadora greeted. "How are you doing?"

User ImageBlythe turned from feeding his horse to look to Clara. “I’m sure he’s fine. I’m just wondering what sort of things they’re talking about inside.”

The Troubadour was assuming it probably had to do with specifics of the job or something to that effect. He really had no concrete idea; the jobs he took when working on his own were generally of very particular natures. This whole group thing was all still so very new to him.

“Carrot?” he offered to the Myrmidon to ease the tension of waiting. Cesario loved them, and Blythe would occasionally have one himself as well when feeding them to his steed.

"I hope you're right," Clara said while taking a carrot. "But I was sure I saw someone on a horse ride off. She then took a bite out of the carrot.

"I'm a bit curious too." She said after she swallowed what she had in her mouth. "Abel mentioned Rath before and had some good comments for him."

Sain let out a yelp as he was picked up by Wallace. He was just glad that Homeros wasn't running away. He's sighed as he gets set down.

"I can't help it Sir. Wallace. The ladies are wonderful." He then grinned and looked at Isadora, "Like Lady Isadora here. May I say you look so lovely.~ Maybe we can have a little dinner before we set off tomorrow." He grabbed her hand as he said that.

Amir Khayri

It was rather impressive actually. Not even a few moments after the charge into a nation had been announced, the city of Eryis had overgone a complete 180. Merchants quickly over turned their shops, ready to stock the mercenaries and the like that flooded the streets. If there was one thing to say about the people and country here, it's that they were certainly adaptable. It was admirable really, a strange sort of pride filled Amir at the sight of his new allies. Perhaps this new alliance had more than enough of a chance after all. And what of Adliana and Estarcia? If Songhua and Cyric were even a small reflection of their lands, they were certainly worthwhile allies and friends for the future. His thanks had been given to the two before their departure, the possibility of a future friendship keeping them waiting for their next encounter. "Till we meet again." But for now, preparations needed to be taken care of.

"Ramla, Amon. We head to see Sir Rath, I don't feel right not preparing for the upcoming journey. If there's any way we can assist them, I do believe we should do as suc-"

There it was. A sort of exhaustion had overtaken the two, despite attempts to hide it from him. It had been a long journey, no amount of feasting and a single night's rest would change that. Amir adjusted his cloak as he paused for a moment, trying to collect his thoughts. They would just have to do without them for the moment, The two, well all three, needed to be in the best of health for the upcoming struggle.

"Alright, change of plans. We'll just check in with Sir Rath, see what his plans for us are...And then you two are excused to do as you wish. Enjoy that bath you wanted Ramla, Amon...Get some rest. We can't have you falling over in the middle of the day."

Amir winked, adjust his cloak once more as they retreated from the stage and into the castle itself. They had been given a brief tour of the castle itself while preparations for the announcement was underway, so Amir was confident in finding his way to Rath's Office. Just another turn wasn't it? "It's almost unbelievable, isn't it?" He began before stopping at the turn, addressing the pair behind him. "Just a year ago we were in hiding...And now here we are, preparing to storm the very heart of Sentria itself. Drake will pay for what he's done...Father will finally be able to rest easy once I have his head. ...Maybe then our nation can finally find peace. How about you two? Are you ready for this? I can trust your capabilities, but I need to read your resolve."
