Death lazily looked up at his brother's comment, and not being half-blind, jolted straight up at the sight (stomping on his poor cheetah on the way, eliciting a squealed mew) and raged:
"What?! She went and became a LEGENDARY?!"

Her senses had shifted, stretched, spread wide after being unmade and remade. She saw much more now, heard, felt much more. And so it was that, far, far away, coming up the rise with Once Forgotten behind her to the left, and Twice Removed to the right, she could already see her brothers, looking exactly as she'd remembered. It was not long before Cry stood at attention, staring straight at her even from such a distance away. He had always been the smart one. This new state of hers, it would have suited him well. She would never have thought that of the three of them, she would have been the one (she would never ever have thought it of Death either, but that was something else altogether). Her brothers. Once she would have pretended such a sentiment impossible, but it was true: she had missed them, in a fashion.

Much, much closer, though still too far away for a normal Kin to ever have caught the distinct sound of each word, she could hear Cry's succinct remark. Clever. Then Death's...

Well.

She hadn't sought this change. She hadn't yet been sure what to think of it. But now... she definitely knew one way to think of it. The wicked smile started to spread slowly across her face...

...by the time her rag-tag crew was within proper reuniting distance with her brothers, it had long since developed into a full-fledged smirk.

Play-Kill was now sulking, stationed a little distance away while licking its stepped-upon haunches. Death, however, was now on his hooves and almost running to confront his sister and her black and white companions. "I can't believe you went to do that without us!" He snarled in the face of her smugness. "This - this is just out of nowhere! All of a sudden when you've been cavorting around with a Kio and a wasp instead of training like we have at the arena," so recently Death had been a little slack at the arena but still "the Motherfather decides you're all worthy and get all these bad-a** -" he paused, not meaning to compliment her at all "- weird-looking changes! Unbelievable!

After he'd said his piece, Death looked lost: almost as if a challenge was on the tip of his tongue, yet he seemed patently unwilling to potentially get a Legendary smack-down in front of non-family. He settled for "this is ridiculous."

“So this is a big thing.” Forgotten blurted out, sounding relieved. Cue had treated her changes so casually that he had been beginning to think he was going slightly crazy. In his mind he had rationalized it as being a Kimeti thing and had tried not to think about it. Her brother’s reaction however, could not be ignored.

The Kiokote offered a hurried nod of greeting to Death and Cry, before rounding on Cue Queue. “Do I get an explanation, or shall I ask them?” Judging by the smirk, she was clearly enjoying herself.

Looking very much like the cat that ate the canary (a happenstance that could, in fact, now be arranged literally) where all were concerned, she fair purred, "How very charming as always, my dear Death. Would you like to explain these...weird-looking changes to my companion?"

Death ground his teeth and growled, rather helpfully, "Somewhere along the way, the Motherfather - with some bizarre system of choice obviously - decides that some Kimeti is worth granting heightened senses and powers and all sorts of weird stuff," to be fair he didn't know much other than that they were obviously overpowered and rather broken in terms of a fair fight, which was enough information for him to rage over Cue's ascension. "Clearly Cue was chewed up and spat out by the swamp's spirituality or something. I think they're supposed to turn into some sorta familiar." He eyed his sister suspiciously, honestly curious but extremely reluctant to ask.

“Ah…” There was little understanding behind the sound. Forgotten was a practical creature and was quite unable to comprehend how the swamp was sentient enough to change a Kimeti so drastically. It was all mystical nonsense that was clearly not nonsense at all. He eyed Cue, looking her up and down. “The owlcat.” He said, finally accepting the one truth he had known from the start but had refused to acknowledge.

"OWLCAT????" Death exploded in uproarious laughter, grossly relieved and delighted that it wasn't anything cooler than a little kitty. "YOU TURN INTO AN OWLCAT??? THIS I GOTTA SEE!!!" He grinned at Cue expectantly, mood much better than it was a second ago. "Come on then!"

"It is a very nice owlcat." Forgotten said as he instantly jumped to Cue’s defence (not that she really needed it). "And she does not have to show you anything." It was probably unwise to make an enemy of Death, but he was not going let Cue be laughed at.

Cue's smirk had predictably vanished at Death's predictable response to her alternate form. Siblings were so predictable, generally. She had sort of dreaded this moment, the thought half-lurking in her mind ever since she'd awokened, changed. In that nameless dream, her choice had been inevitable, had felt right, like a skin you'd been searching for your entire life, then when found, fit as if it had always been there. When she woke...well, it had still been all of those things, but she had also been acutely aware of how her most competitive sibling would likely take to the news.

She hated it when Death was happy.

But who cared, she decided, as Forgotten butted in, what Death thought, when there were others who liked owlcats very much? She did not go as far as to feel grateful for his outburst, but did shed a bit of her instinctual hostility. A bit.

"It is a privilege the Motherfather has bestowed upon me," she declared as airily as she could manage, "I have nothing to hide." A flicker, a blink, and she was a ghost of herself - but there was an owlcat before her, whole and solid. A moment of consideration...then the see-through shade of the mare disappeared, and there was only owlcat: cute squishy little owlcat, with big round adorable glowing gold eyes.

Death fairly shrieked with laughter, even incurring his sulky cheetah's sidewards glance - his front legs buckled as he focused once more on the cute widdle owlcat form, and his vision promptly blurred due to teary hilarity. Oh, Cue - for all the trials she had presumably gone through, the best she could handle was a squishy little owlcat with big eyes and a cattishly squishy face! "How.....CUTE!" He sputtered, managing out another "How squishy and sweet! before being completely disabled by amusement.

The owlcat took the jibing quite calmly, all things considered. Then, just as the laughter was winding down, with a dreadful banshee shriek somewhere halfway between - surprise, surprise - an owl and a cat's wild cry, she launched herself paw-first at the buck to demonstrate how cute squishy little owlcats with big round adorable glowing gold eyes had sharp claws.

The trails of laughter quickly turned to cries of horror, a struggle of pride against fear, but certainly tones of pain and agony ripped through the air straight from the cat's claws. There was frenetic hoofing that wasn't quite able to throw a cute squishy Legendary off - much howling that was more blood-curdling than funny at the moment. A full-grown buck engaging (or being torn into) by an owlcat was a very bloody and undignified sight.

The cheetah, quite contrary to its usually loyal nature, blinked and turned away, still nursing its previously stomped-on side.

Unperturbed by the torrid scenes of battle before them, Cry glided up by Forgotten's side. "To further explicate my brother's exposition," he smoothly said, "Legendaries are the Swamp's emissaries, of a sort. The 'Chosen', they say, who share something of its rhythm. They have the power to bless, perhaps to heal and seek. It is said each has a little special power of their own. I always knew," and he punctuated this with a subtle smile that, while not unpleasant, might have been a little...ambigious, "Cue would go far."

"And I always thought it would've been you," she strode over, mare again, leaving the carnage behind her having thoroughly established why owlcats were such wonderful creatures, worthy of worship and blood sacrifice, "you should try it, it'd suit you."
