"Ah! I understand. If I may ask, what happened to your Mother?" Despite having finished exploring his face she was still holding onto him gently, feeling the vibrations in the way he talked and listening to the soft little hoo noises that left him on occasion. It was adorable; he was a very fascinating boil! "Well, I must thank your pushy Father; if it were not for that flier I may not have met you! I am blessed~" She meant it, too; normally she didn't go out of her way, but the poster had made her curious, and already such good things were coming from it!
"I understand; our situations were different, but it seems that school has allowed us what we were unable to have before; is it not refreshing? Like a batch of fresh ink!" She did love fresh ink; old ink was as grouchy to work with as a tired scareling. Fresh ink was new, exciting, eager to please and work; refreshing in it's finest, in her mind. "Sometimes, it is very nice~" Needle confirmed, though she was very technical and detached about it as well. Especially detached. "It should not hurt, but if it does~" She didn't say what to do if it did hurt, but since she had his permission it didn't seem important; she took it seriously, and never considered that it might have been a joke.
Once she could she leaned in, using her hands as a guide to not cause certain accidents. Soon she was nuzzling his cheek for a moment, feeling his warm skin and the briefest hint of hair tickling against her. "Can you giggle again, please?" She requested, her cold cheek pressed against his. Vibrating through her hands was fun, but her face was more sensitive, and she had never felt anyone vibrate before!

She didn't really need to ask. He'd begun a giggle as soon as her face touched his. It seemed to start much sooner in his body than it was heard on the outside. His bones were actually light and flexible, similar to a birds. It helped when shifting, having his bones be slightly pliable. They reverberated unlike solid mammal bone. "Easy!" Another giggle, this one hissing through his teeth next to her ear. He was making a point to stalk softly and not screech right in her ear. The touch was nice, slightly tickling. The strix couldn't remember anyone doing this before.
His brother shook hands and his father rarely touched him. From close friends he occasionally hugged them but this was something completely new. he couldn't remember his earliest years with his mother.
"My mother is a strix and so.. she is solitary." The strix's shoulders rose and fell with a shrug. Even his talking vibrated him slightly, though most of the sound thrummed from his throat. Close like this she could probably feel that even his thin chest seemed to tremble. "I was with her in my earliest years, for mmm suckling and such. Until I could eat meat. After that, she left with my father and went back on her own."

Oh, oh this was fascinating! Needle giggled as he did, tickled by the vibrations in his hollow bones through his skin; the slight brush of newly growing hair didn't help, either. It was so much fun she almost didn't want to let go, but alas she couldn't nuzzle him forever! That moment though, she couldn't let him go, not with him trembling the way he was, however faintly.
"I am sorry to hear that." Any trembling she generally took for discomfort or distress. She gave another brief nuzzle to his wonderfully vibrating face, and then an even more brief kiss to his cheek as means of an apology before leaning back, reclaiming her hands and ceasing contact. For now. "However...as a Strix, does that mean you will also become solitary one day?" She didn't seem pleased by the idea; she knew her life would end up as such, but she never wanted it to happen to anyone else.

Ulmuka's eyes widened a bit to the kiss on the cheek and it made him giggle again. He'd seen kisses but never given one. He still had trouble with the concept of his own lips. When Needle withdrew he also leaned back up straight, his hands tucking together against his chest.
"Well I don't know." His head bobbed to the side a bit. "I haven't thought much about that. I do enjoy other's company, I probably got that from my father. I also haven't met any other strix at school. Maybe they don't go to school?" He scratched the top of his head with a talon.
"We don't know the future until we get there, Miss Needle." He gave an encouraging giggle. "Perhaps taking a different path may lead me to a different result, hmm?" A surprisingly insightful statement from the monster.

Needle found herself following Muka's head motions, her head leaning as his did; why she had no idea, but it seemed like the right - or at least the most fun - thing to do. "Perhaps! I know other Engravers do not, so it is equally likely there are other races who do not as well." She mused thoughtfully, clearly giving it perhaps a little too much thought. As Muka continued to talk, Needle's eyes widened behind her mask; that was...very insightful. Inspiring, even! Sure it might not work in her specific scenario, however...if the option was there, it was there for her to take, right? Just like his future was his to decide?
"That is...a very good thought, Muka. Thank you." She was grateful, and it showed in her voice. "Perhaps we could even help each other out one day." That would be nice! The more people she had to help her, the more likely she would be able to free herself and Lattice from their clan, after all! It was a great warming thought, so much so that an actual blush crept onto her cheeks.
"And ah---I would love to tattoo you, if you would like. But for now...tell me about Prom?" They had gotten distracted, after all!

Muka noticed the ghoul turning a bit pink. His head tilted again. He tapped a talon to his lip as she mentioned them helping one another. With a giggle he took her hand gently and rested it on of his arms. The simple motion indicated he was escorting her for a walk. Her sensitive touch would pick up the fine fabric of his jacket, he'd taken to wearing one now over his waistcoat and shirt. It was a creamy color with chocolate brown pinstripes. The stripes varied in material ad were noticeable to sensitive touch.
"Let us walk. I will tell you of prom and if it sounds appealing, perhaps you would go with me? That would surely help the both of us." He giggled. His request was straightforward and honest. "It would save us the trouble of finding other dates, hmm? And my father would be happy as well, that it's a ghoul and I am not alone."
Muka led her out onto the grounds, the musty Halloween air meeting them with a gentle breeze and a rustle of dead leaves.

Needle understood this particular motion; Petro did it to her often, and she had since learned how to adjust her arm to not pierce him with her needles while not being entirely uncomfortable for herself. It had taken a lot of trial and error, but thankfully this time with Muka was a well experienced one, and unless he jolted oddly his arm was safe from hers. She only gave a passing thought to the fabric on his arm, taking a moment to rub her fingers along it to admire it; it was lovely!
She kind of wanted to experience sleeves. Her needles made it...awkward, to say the least.
"A fantastic proposal! Please, enlighten me." Needle giggled, moving easily beside him. She appreciated his honesty, and being straightforward was always good in her books; it matched well enough with hers, and it was refreshing to not have to beat around the bush so to speak! "And I would be happy to meet your Father if it would help you!" The hand on his arm gave a little pat, and she drifted slightly closer to him, mostly to make not tripping or walking into things that much easier.
"Gloomy day, is it not?" Needle said cheerfully, enjoying the musty smell and the rustle of the dead leaves; the distant howling and the screeching of nearby creatures was also a lovely touch.

"Perhaps.." Muka didn't know certain details of prom. He was unsure if he was going to have his picture taken for posterity. Did his father care for such things? He didn't seem as enthusiastic when his father was discussed. "My brother may like to meet you." He perked. "He's very charming though, I warn you." Muka chuckled.
"Mmm hmmm." The young monster closed his eyes momentarily to the breeze. A faint decaying smell wafted from the direction of the undead dorms and the sound of the many beasts hiding, screeching and moaning, made him hungry. He clacked his teeth in anticipation of his next meal. He'd been so hungry lately! If Needle had been an acquaintance she may have noticed the increased fullness of his face. He'd been eating a lot. "So prom is much like a large party. You take a date and dress formally. Similar to a ball." The strix happened to love balls. "You eat and dance and I believe at some point a ghoul and boy are voted to be king and queen of the ball." He scratched his head. "I've never been to one but that's what was relayed to me." From his brother... yesterday.

And then she understood that his Father was a touchy subject. Okay, noted! His brother however seemed like a good, safeish bet. "Charming? Since when is charming a bad thing?" Needle seemed confused, and rightfully so; she liked charming. Was she missing something on that?
"That...sounds like a wonderful experience!" Needle keened after he explained what Prom was; she wasn't entirely sure what a Ball was either, but she got the gist of it. After all, some of the clans that visited hers sometimes talked about big parties like that! She'd always wanted to go, but obviously never could; now? She was on that like ink on paper!
"Ah, but---I will not be required to eat cake, will I? If you still wish for me to be your date?" There was a moment pause and a thoughtful head tilt after that as well, looking up at him curiously. "So...Prom Dates do not have to be actively courting?" She wasn't sure if she was up to courting anyone, and she didn't want to do this thing wrong.

"I don't think anyone will force you to eat cake.." He puzzled, scratching the soft hair on his chin. "I can eat your cake for you!" He giggled, already feeling some hunger pangs. "I've been very hungry lately."
Ulmuka led their stroll along the walking path in front of the main building. He had no goal in particular and they were just as likely to end up back in front of the building again. "I don't think they do. I could court you if you like.. if it's necessary." Muka seemed intrigued by the idea. He hadn't heard that but had been eager to learn about courting.
"Are you or have you been courted in the past, Miss Needle?" The strix spoke matter of factly.

"You may have all the cake, my friend." Needle made a face; or at least that's probably what the wrinkled nose and briefly stuck out tongue meant. She considered his words at being hungry; was he hungry now? Perhaps...she could help with that? Hmmm! "Are you hungry now?" Their stroll was at a good pace, and Needle appreciated the calming gesture.
"Hmm...I suppose that depends on if it's necessary." It was sweet that he'd be willing to court her though! She didn't imagine anyone else would do that for a Prom, but then again all she knew about it was what Muka and Petro told her. "I am not and I have never, though Petro tells me it is a very serious, very special committment between two who care for one another." She hummed thoughtfully, tilting her head to look up at the very tall boil.
"What about you, Mr. Knobwalker?" She could be very formal too, see?!

"A bit yess.." His words hissed through his impressive teeth. "More and more so lately. Always hungry all the time." He snickered.
"Well I don't believe it is necessary, or else not many couples would go to it.. hmm?" His head bobbed sideways, truly interested, as she spoke of courting from another's point of view. "Well as I am to understand it courting is simply, hmmm," hit throat thrummed, "some sort of natural progression for the young. Part of the progression to adulthood... narrowing down the options and finding a mate?" He spoke as if he'd read it in a book. "My father has encouraged courting often, with many." The strix sounded a bit like an animal.
His head bobbed back into place when she asked about his own dating, courting, habits. "I have not courted. I am not even sure... hmmm.." The strix was making a thoughtful, almost confused sound in his throat. "You see Miss Needle I don't quote understand all the hmmm, feelings portions of such arrangements."

Needle tapped her lips thoughtfully. He was hungry? Well... "May I challenge you to an eating contest?" The Engraver offered, now placing her free hand on her hip as they walked. "But before you answer, be warned---I came in third place at the Terror Warrior eating competition!" If it weren't for the cake they served, she would have beat out the Grue and the Reaper, she was sure of it; it was a proud moment, and it made her grin up at him.
"Hmm...Interesting! Perhaps it is somewhat of a personal thing?" Ulmuka's definition was much different than Petro's, and that left the Engraver confused. Who was right, who was wrong? More so, where should she stand on the subject? She understood that there was somewhat of a social aspect attached to it, like where ghouls became loose or whathaveyou; but where that line came from and everything associated with it was just so...curious.
"If...I am being honest with you, Mr. Knobwalker-" There was a brief pause and an even shorter smile, having fun playing with this name thing. "-I do not quite fully understand it myself. What a pair we make~" She admitted seriously, and then joked with a small chuckle. "However these arrangements always seem like great fun~"

The strix's grin widened considerably when she challenged a contest. "Ooooooh.." he trilled, wings hefting higher for a moment involuntarily. "That sounds like fun. Charlie and I once competed over some nachos by holding our heads under water in buckets." The strix hissingly giggled. "That's the only food challenge I have ever entered."
They were now a bit away from the main building and he turned on the path, rounding their way back. At the base of a twisted tree a ghost couple looked like their faces were about to meld together. Muka pointed. "Look.. another interpretation." Another giggled. "Many cultures have different views I think. My father has friends who have multiple wives and husbands." He shrugged.
When he heard what she had to say Muka had a strange lightening feeling. He'd later learn it was relief. He was relieved to not be the only student to be confused. Many teenagers were but often he felt a little more outside of the norm than others. It hadn't ever bothered him much but he'd like to at least understand it. "Well perhaps we can acquaint ourselves with the traditions. PROM." His taloned fingers rested on top of her hand a moment and he squeezed. "And we get new cloothes!!"
The strix seemed very very excited about the clothes.

"That seems like an odd challenge...who won?" His trilling just sounded so happy! That, coupled with the flair of his wings, sounded like a good thing to her. "I am eager to try again! I do not generally eat, so I wish to know if it was a fluke! Perhaps you would be so kind as to help me?" Eating contest eating contest eating contest!
"Aha...At least I know that part is fun." She giggled, a light blush lifting onto her cheeks. After a moment she cleared her throat and tilted her head upwards, not looking at him specifically just...up. "My Clan does not court or socialize in that manner. Most manners, really." The Engraver explained briefly. "Just...when we need more, we choose the four most talented and powerful, and they put their FEAR into a pumpkin; there is no romance or feelings~" Not where she came from anyway; the affection she had with her sister seemed like a rarity in Engraver history.
"Yes! Traditions are---Wait---Clothes?" Needle's lips pressed into a thin line, looking down to stare at her own inkdyed clothing; at least the red and blue pieces. "I suppose I will need new clothing, I do only have this and a kimono..." That meant going shopping, and shopping meant getting lost in the maul and akjfghkajgha so much woooork~
