"FEARstream..." Malodore picked up the book, opening it and flipping through the first few pages before looking up. "In the Casa, we were taught to funnel our own FEAR through leeches, which stood as a barrier between our FEAR and that of our patient. Any FEAR-manipulation without that barrier was strictly forbidden. It was largely believed to flow within the blood, though the other humours were considered as well... this belief is antiquated, is it not? I had made some small experiments, though none since leaving the Casa; after my, ah, final experiment I had feared to do so again... when you speak of 'tracing', do you mean tracing the pathways of FEAR with FEAR itself, or in a more manual, prosaic fashion? I fear I have as much to unlearn as to learn..."

"FEAR is in the blood. Just as FEAR is within my insects. It is a good place to begin. The humours? Do you speak of the Red, Yellow, Black, and Blue biles, yes?" It was something she was familiar with (mostly because her author had made horrible jokes about one of them in her theater class, to break the fourth wall), but had never understood the theologies of. It hadn't worked with her methods.
"I believe given what was taught to you and perhaps what limitations the plague doctors do not have in certain ways have come to be your methods. Someone who has..physical limitations from the humours might have a problem actually using them to heal." Cricket explained as she took a moment to pull a piece of paper out of her notebook.
She set it square on her desk before she made a point of actually splitting open a vein in her arm. The blood was almost blue in hue as it dripped onto the page and then as it pooled one thing became clear - it was eating the paper.....and the surface of her desk.
Cricket drew a hand across the desk to clean it up, a small frown across her face.
"I have a poison that runs through my veins which renders it unusable. Trace the pathways with FEAR itself. If you struggle, draw along its flow with your finger. It will not come easily and you will find yourself doing that a lot at times."

Malodore looked at the blood with fascination. " Si, in the Casa we - they - had leeches to handle many different types of blood... and yes, also biles and phlegms..." It pondered, holding out one hand and calling up its FEAR. "Like... like so?" It did as it had been taught, forcing its own FEAR outwards through its fingertips, but it was sloppy from lack of practice. As if responding to the flow of FEAR, the feathers on its wings chimed almost ominously. "Ah... I have mostly used this to focus through my wings, for battle," it murmured, with a sigh. "Such strange things I have had to learn..." Its FEAR licked awkwardly at Cricket's skin. demon_pachabel What is this meant to look like? XD is FEAR doing this visible? is it glowing light or invisible pressure or idk?

Cricket was patient with it. A lack of experience was nothing to frown upon in her eyes, as she was teaching a skill that was much trickier than tracking or battling and wasn't always as yielding to chances to practice with it. Cricket, as a student, had to make due with a clumsy classmate who had always been good to patch up.
"You do as you have to to adjust with what you are given and with what will work at various times." she said calmly, "You do not need to be ashamed of what it is you have been taught. What your Casa did worked for where they were and what it was you would be treating, did it not? My skills have been honed over various races of students and different afflictions that sometimes aren't even common to the area," like a certain reaper slowly turning into a lizard, "so circumstances. Simply circumstances."
As she spoke, the plasm of her arm began to knit back together underneath the awkward urging of Malodore's FEAR.Sosiqui An increase in brightness and saturation in the body/where it is focused to. Since Insanity takes away FEAR and does the opposite. XDD

Its wings were... annoying. Malodore quickly stopped the flow of FEAR and closed its eyes; having become so used to funneling FEAR into its wings for purposes of battle and for the wings' own growth, it was now doing so without thinking. This time, when it began focusing its FEAR once more, it concentrated on making the FEAR only emerge through the fingertips of that hand, not automatically flowing through its wings as well. The flow of FEAR was slower, but a bit more controlled. "And your FEAR flows with your blood," it said, quietly. "And I cannot put in too much of my FEAR, or it will make you ill in a different way. I learned that much..." It moved its hand closer to Cricket's arm, imagining how it would repair the wound with needle and thread; strands pulling the edges together and sealing them...

"That's correct. I always walk a careful line of healing and poisoning the entire student body." Being a highly capable FEARhealer had been somewhat of a function of limiting her FEARflow between herself and another individual. As fun as it would have been to melt someone else's arm off by accident, she imagined parents would have been very disappointed in that.
As Malodore stabilized the flow of FEAR, the self-inflicted wound - which had only been intended to demonstrate the ill effects of her blood, rather than a practice in knitting a superficial wound together - sealed together willingly and more quickly than it had been before.

Malodore brightened as the wound knit under its fingertips, though it began to gently pull away, wary of putting too much foreign FEAR into her system. The leeches in the Casa had also served as a natural barrier between the FEAR of the healer and that of the patient. "If you visualize what you wish to do, it seems to work better?" it offered, a little shyly. "I was picturing how I would treat the wound using mundane methods... but that would be more difficult for interior wounds, would it not?" It pulled its hand away entirely, feeling a bit tired, as it had in the Casa after leechcraft practice. "And, ah, I am to trace the flow of my own FEAR, and that of others, so that I understand the way it permeates the body? Does that require me to put FEAR into their systems, or simply to... extend my FEAR as awareness but not... ah, giving it away to them, as it were? Mi dispiace, I am not familiar with the exact terminology," it admitted. "I do not wish to cause an imbalance or, er... anything that would require a protection charm." It ducked its head. Yes, it was blushing under the mask. Not that anyone would know.

"For some, yes. If that works better for you, by all means pursue it. If you have a lot of practice in 'mundane' healing, take advantage of that knowledge and use it to assist you." She certainly made them practice enough 'mundane' things in her FEARhealing open class to at least give the basics.
"Being able to track the flow of FEAR will allow you to better control your own, but also use another's FEAR to help heal them. I highly recommend using the patient's FEAR when you can as it is safer for them than introducing yours to their body." she explained.
The drop of the word 'protection charm' caused Cricket's eyebrows to lift ever so slightly. What exactly was it thinking of doing to its patients, exactly?
"You will not need to put your FEAR into their body to track their FEAR flow. If you were to treat something very deep in their body, perhaps you would need to inject FEAR as such. Overall, just noting the physical cues of their body as FEAR flows through it is enough.
Once you know how it moves through your own body, you will know where the biggest landmarks in the body to pay attention to for changes are. The places where it might struggle a bit more, the places closer to the surface of the body. Things like that. If you do want a deeper study of the flow through others, and sometimes this is required for a diagnosis, You can follow the smallest trace of your own FEAR through another's body. Only the same amount you would use to heal something like a fleshwound of this caliber. Not enough that could do more than patch."

"Ah, si, of course," Malodore said, sounding a little bit embarrassed - it hadn't missed her eyebrow raise. "The leechcraft I was taught, we interacted with the patient's FEAR only at the site of the leech's bite, using multiple leeches across an area if needed, to provide multiple sites for interaction... but the leeches themselves always provided a buffer, if you will. It was all very indirect." It shook its head; it had been under the vague impression that 'modern' FEARhealing was all about using one's own FEAR on others. Not so, it seemed. "So one manipulates another's FEAR by using one's own FEAR as... as a guiding force, but not as an intrusive one?" it said, choosing its words carefully. "Perhaps... you could demonstrate how you would observe my own FEAR flow?" It held out its hand towards her again, palm up this time. demon_pachabel Just trying to get a more concrete idea of how this works, sorry XDD

"Correct. Being able to at least glean a general path of FEAR from a glance becomes important in the same way having a good leader as a person is. You do not really want to trust someone who does not know where they are going, correct? FEAR can act about the same way." Albeit it was somewhat less sentient.
When Malodore extended its hand to Cricket, she shook her head and instead reached out to press her thumb directly against the center of its chest. "The strongest pulse, on average, will be about here." she instructed carefully, then she put her other thumb next to it and began to draw her hands in two opposite directions - the shoulders. One hand drew from the shoulder down the arm and to Malodore's palm. The other drew up its neck, brushed across the mask, and then came down to the center of the collarbone.
Cricket stood to continue, her single thumb tracing across the body around its back, resting at the center of the lower spine. She again split from there, one finger moving down across the hip and towards the knee, the other one working its way back up. It was about there that she stopped.
"That's the most basic way to do it. The path will branch at various times and I had to choose from there, as you can probably tell. Sometimes it will move in deeper rather than across any surface, but as long as you can tell when that is happening, it will do you well."
Cricket sat again, taking a moment to actually jab herself in the chest with her thumb. As if prompted, a somewhat lighter pulse began to move through the semi translucent plasm of her body - a rather easy way to track it circling some areas and branching from others. Like a blood flow, only it seemed to whirl more than it branched, trying to engulf everything.

When Cricket reached for it, Malodore stilled the obvious objection of I don't have a pulse in favor of just listening - lack of a heartbeat didn't mean that it didn't have some form of FEAR-pulse, after all. The sweep of her fingers over it made it tense a bit, unaccustomed to being touched by someone other than a few very select people, but it carefully observed what she did, memorizing her movements and the pathways she took. "I see... grazie. I will study this in myself, and in others... perhaps it would be beneficial to try this on Jericho? To see if the flow of FEAR is in any way disrupted by the Insanity?" it said, after a moment. Then it felt vaguely guilty. " Mi dispiace, I do want to learn more than just what is applicable to my... my current... obsession, I suppose," it said, with a self-depreciating sigh. "I will study others as well. My amici, my friends, I am sure they will be glad to assist."

"Do both." Cricket suggested. "Jericho and someone who is not afflicted by Insanity. See if there are difference." It was hard to get that obsession to go away, after all, and there was a part of her - the part that had gotten in trouble with and patched up a white wolf named Red - that wanted to know if there was a difference as well.
It was highly unlikely that such patients would be coming to visit her, after all.
"I will not fault you for your interest."

The plague doctor relaxed a little bit. " Grazie mille," it said, opening its beak in a small smile. "I do wish to learn everything I can, in every area - I want my knowledge and skills to be well-rounded. The issue is just... close to my heart, at the moment." It glanced over at the calcified arm, then back again. "So I shall study the movement of FEAR - what should I not do? Is there any dangerous error I might make, or an accidental overstep that I should strive to avoid?"
