Paimon trotted alongside Razien in awkward silence, dwelling on his own internal turmoil. Had the gods set up this meeting as fate? Were he and Razien supposed to help each other with finding each other's destinies? He cleared his throat before answering Razien's somewhat random question. "Well... There was this other foal my age when I was growing up.. I sparred with him a bit, though I didn't like him.. But actual real fights? No. I tend to avoid those." He answered honestly. He couldn't find any reason to be fake with this stallion, so long as Razien himself was being truthful. "My... saddle and fire tend to scare or intimidate others before they decide to fight. You? Have you been in many 'battles'?

So that's what the strange thing was on Paimon's back; a saddle! Raz had been trying to figure it out down for a while. He'd seen other Azrein with similar contrivances, but they usually had humans as their Chosen. Why would Paimon have need of a saddle?
"Battles? No, not me, though there were plenty of fights within the herd growing up. I think it's meant to be some sort of 'coming-of-age' thing in the herd. The younger of us were always under attack from the older males, and usually without warning. So we had to learn quick to defend ourselves. Many of us carry scars from these skirmishes on our bodies. But I have never taken part in any actual battle between us and the King's supporters. Like you, I try to avoid confrontations if at all possible." He decided to ask Paimon about that saddle on his back. "May I ask, if you do not have a human as your Chosen, then why would you have need of a saddle?"

Paimon listened attentively to his traveling partner whilst keeping his eyes open on the landscape in case there appeared some.. unruly azrein that would decide to pick on the two. He looked back at the bulky thing that lay on his shoulders before giving the horse equivalent of a shrug. "I'm not sure. I've never been able to get it off, and its been on since I was a foal. Its an exact copy of my father's, which is used for his Apocalypse brother to sit upon while bringing upon the destruction of the earth and all its inhabitants," Paimon tossed his mane, unsure of exactly why he did have the stupid thing. Its not like he'd ever allow a two-legger to sit upon his back in any situation.

Raz had never heard of this Apocalypse brother that Paimon mentioned. The fact that he couldn't get the thing off his back, and had been burdened with it all his life, disturbed Raz a bit. He couldn't imagine himself carrying around something like that, knowing he would never allow a human to sit astride his back. He'd seen other Azrein in the herd with similar contrivances, but he had never had the courage to ask any of them to explain why they wore them. For some reason, he felt more at ease asking Paimon these sorts of questions. "Would you like me to see if I can chew through the straps holding it in place?" Raz hadn't actually seen any straps, but there had to be something holding it on to Paimon's back.

Paimon considered it a moment before shaking his head. "No thanks. Its a part of me. I've had it since I was in my blanket. There's no since in getting rid of it. Its not like a two-legger would be able to even sit on it due to the spikes on it." He said passively as they walked. "Tell me about yourself, Razien.. Why exactly are you questioning your father's and herd's beliefs?" he asked after a moment. He studied the stallion contemplatively.

Well, he'd offered, and that was all he could do. He was just glad it was not himself that was burdened with the thing. He walked along in silence as he pondered Paimon's question, and how exactly to answer it. He hadn't really given any definitive thought to why it was he was opposed to the views of his father and the Six. He just didn't have it in him to cause harm to others of his own race, simply because they didn't hold the same viewpoint. That was about as good of an answer as he could come up with at the moment, and exactly what he told Paimon. He rather envied his two brothers who had decided not to take sides in the war, and stay neutral, but he had no idea how he could do the same thing, now that he was living with his father and the herd.

Paimon nodded as he listened to Razien's explanation and pondered over why he felt the way he did. He certainly had no reason to. Both of his parents were evil, like him and his sister... the only difference was that he was raised by Daria and Jondayla... Perhaps that was the major difference. Maybe evil-ness wasn't of blood or bred... it was of mind and decision... It was definitely something he should think about more.

They traveled on in silence for a while, Raz thinking about his own situation, and wondering if Paimon was having the same troubling thoughts as himself. A breeze blew up, and Raz caught the scent of water. "Paimon, I smell water. Let's head for that, and perhaps we'll be able to find a safe place to spend the night. I don't like being out here in the open at night. We're far from my herd, but there are others who follow the Six, and they may not bother to ask who we serve before attacking us." He turned into the wind and headed for what he hoped was a river or stream, and safety.

Paimon nodded his assent. "I agree with you, Razien." he said softly, following the purplish azrein to the stream. He too, caught a faint whiff of water on the breeze in the direction that Razien was leading them. It was nice to be traveling with another instead of by himself as he had for so long. Before too long they reached the slow moving stream, just as the sun was setting. "Shall we cross?" Paimon asked, not much liking the idea of getting wet, but willing to do so if it meant safety. He'd dry off soon enough, even if it meant his blaze would be out for awhile.

"I think it might be best if we did," answered Raz. "It looks like there might be more cover on the other side, and we'd hear anything crossing the stream in the night, and be alerted." He walked down to the water's edge and surveyed the stream both up and down before choosing a place to cross. There must have been some heavy rains in the hills above them, for the stream was running high and swift. Had this been a river, they would have had to search for a much safer crossing. He entered the stream and immediately felt a shiver run down the length of his back. The water was colder than anything he had ever experienced before. He re-evaluated his earlier assumption about rain in the hills, and decided the rush of water was probably due to snowfall in the mountains, melting and causing the streams down here to flow with such cold water. He didn't envy Paimon having to cross the icy water. He wasted no time making his way to the other side, and climbing out of the frigid stream.

Paimon hesitated at the water's edge. He could smell the fridgidness of the water, his flames were already flickering at the thought of having to cross. Paimon grunted and closed his eyes. He had to... He couldn't be a coward like his father so often accused him of. Paimon made the first step into the water and immediatly, the fire that warmed his blood went out. A hiss sizzled the water as his hot body began to make contact, and soon he was jumping in, just to get it over with. His coal black eyes flashed open and his teeth began chattering. He froze a moment, unwilling to go on, yet the water was freezing him to the core. Finally, the flamed stallion made his way to the edge and slipped out of the water, little rivulets falling and hissing from his black pelt. He gave a little shake as he turned to face Razien. "I do NOT fancy doing that again.." He growled out, though not unfriendly in anyway.

Raz turned to watch Paimon cross the stream. As his front foot hit the water, he was surprised to see steam rise from the surface. Paimon seemed to hesitate for a moment, but then found the courage to move on, out into the stream. More steam rose as the rest of his body came in contact with the water, until finally he could no longer see the bright flames that flowed around Paimon's body. "Come on, you can do it!" called Raz. Paimon had stopped midway through the stream, but then found the strength to finally climb out of the chill water. Raz stepped back as Paimon shook his body to get the cold water out of his coat and off his legs. "I don't blame you," replied Raz. "I wouldn't have wanted to go through that either if I were you, but you did it, and hopefully, if we need to cross back, we'll find a better place to do so. One where you don't have to get wet." Raz watched him, curious to see how long it would take for the flames to reappear on the stallion. "We should probably find a safe place to spend the night."

Paimon shivered, his tail flicking in an irritated manner because he was cold. His head hung a bit low as he looked up at Razien. "Thanks for the encouragement..." He said softly. He began to look around, and much to his surprise and delight, found an easily accessible cave not to far away between a few trees. "How about that cave?" He suggested.

Raz looked at where Paimon indicated and would have kicked himself if he were able to manage it, for not noticing the cave himself. He walked over to the cave entrance and sniffed the air. "Seems safe enough. I don't smell any other animals, but that doesn't mean it's not being used. Let me check it out first. Keep watch while I'm inside." Raz was about to enter the cave when he came up with a better idea. Turning back to look at Paimon he said, "Can you get your flames going again? It might be better if we had some light to inspect the cave. If not, I'll go in without it." Paimon looked miserable, and Raz had a feeling the stallion was not at all happy about his current situation.

Paimon shook out his mane. "I.. I can try.. no guarantees though... " He said softly. He approached the edge of the cave and closed his eyes, focusing on the inner warmth of his body. After a few moments, his pelt began to sizzle as smoke rose from his hide. A little while longer, and his flames were successfully flaming again. "There. Shall I lead the way then?" He asked.
