"Yeah. It's almost cartoonish, isn't it?" A grin, and a soft one, at that.
"H is a creeper, but he's not all bad, I guess." She shrugged. "Doc recruited me. Who brought you on board?"
Her daggers clinked against the spear in the girl's hands.
"What's its name?" Clerise asked, curiosity filtering into her voice. They all seemed so much more interesting without a weapon of her own.

Ami stared at Clerise blankly. "Re ... cruited?" Ami really didn't remember being picked by anyone.
She raised her spear at the very last second, blocking the girl's hit, but not well. She was so focused on blocking that she nearly forgot about the weapons question. "Junpei. Uh his name."

Clerise stared at Ami.
"Uh. The person who talked you into the fancy paperwork before you came...to the island?" She waved her arms, gesturing to the area around them.
"Ah. Nice name. I had- er. Have? Whatever. My weapon's a dude, too."
A dagger cut into Ami's leg, slicing lightly. "Hah! Got past you."

"Yeah well it's not the first time," Ami said glumly, looking down at her leg, just to make sure it was nothing serious. She still had that mark in her leg from stupid Sydney. This wasn't any time for a second injury.
To Clerise's question, she actually had to think for a moment. No one special had recruited her. There was no special choice. She just got approached, signed some papers and called it good. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't a little jealous that Clerise got a division leader to come talk with her personally.
"Couldn't tell you," was all she said on the matter. "Had a weapon? What happened to it?"

"Weird." Clerise shrugged it off. "If it's any consolation, I am pretty sure he was creeping on my show." The redhead hummed to herself a moment, thinking on her weapon.
"A horseman happened. Smashed him to bits." She jabbed a thumb backwards, gesturing to where her coat laid, a silver watch on top of it. "He doesn't work, for now."
She paused, not striking out. "But uh, he should be back soon, or something. Dunno."
The silence in her head yawned on like eternity.

Ami dropped Junpei a bit lower, more going along with the conversation now than she was paying attention to their battle. "That sounds ... tough."
"Can they even fix him?" Ami actually looked down somewhat saddened. Sure she hated Junpei and wandered him to shut up 90% of the time, but she wasn't so cruel as to tell him to disappear for good.

She shrugged, and ran a finger along the scars under her eye. "The pony gave me some parting gifts that kind of suck, yeah." The look in the girl's eyes was akin to pity. "Clarice said he will probably change shape whenever he's ready," Clerise hazarded, lips pursed tight. "I just wish...it's been like, two ********' months already, or whatever." Ami had pretended not to stare at the scars, but she totally was. It was hard not to. They were quite blatantly RIGHT there.
She nodded and said, "I ... hope he gets fixed. That sucks." Ami may not have liked the girl much initially, but no one deserved to just lose their brainwrom.

Clerise didn't mind the staring so much. Jordan had called them elegant-- they were certainly better than some of the more jagged ones she saw.
"You and me both, sister."
While one blow got through, this second one didn't. "Mehhh. Maybe, you're doin' all right. Do you defend others just as good as you defend yourself, though?"

Ami bit her lip as she thought of both Wilson and Feng getting beaten up in princess island. Was it a fair application? No. Was she still thinking about it? You bet your a** she was.
"I'm not your sister," she said bluntly, "And no. At least, I don't think so." She sighed, frustrated with herself. "When I'm defending myself, it's easy. I can see where people are going to hit, and I can focus in on it. When other people come in the picture, I get overwhelmed having to think about both myself and the person. It's seriously stressful."

Clerise scratched against her arm, and Ami winced. She'd been so busy arguing that her strong defenses were just slipping away from her now.
