(( Hit 2/5 - Hit ))

A small smirk touched Teketeza's maw when he made contact, hitting the Hongshan with such force that she was forced to the ground. Apparently he had disoriented her, as she quickly threw up a counter attack, but hit nothing but air.

She was vulnerable now, and if she was a real enemy, this would've been when he went for the kill. This was just a duel though, something she had asked for. A simple lesson that he was willing to teach. Not wanting her to get fully back to her feet, he moved to mercilessly stamp on her back. There was nothing fancy about Teketeza's style of fighting, it was simply brutal. This was what she had wanted though, to fight one who apparently was similar to the Nergui. He would make her live to regret ever asking for this duel.

She'd most likely be hurting for a few days, but regret the duel? No. The pain would be worth it if she could better herself. If it could improve her mastery of the battlefield and make a fierce warrior of her.

Even still, she yowled in pain and fury as he slammed a paw down on her back, twisting to try and free herself. The act did as she wanted but his claws tore through fur and drew blood that sent a jolt of pain through her.

And as she twisted she lunged out with her right paw again, cutting up high through the air to prevent herself from being pinned. If he managed to do that then the duel really would be over and she wasn't ready to give up the fight just yet.

(( 3/5 - Bide ( >.> Come at me bro! ) ))

Despite her audiable pain, Teketeza didn't relent. He continued to dig his claws in, although he was soon forced to retract them as she twisted her body and swung at him. This time she got him right in the jaw, causing him to take a few steps back. Growling, he lifted a paw to feel his jaw. Again, he had been surprised by the strength of Roho's strike, especially considering that she was on her back when she launched it.

That small smirk once again returned to his face. Was he actually starting to enjoy himself. "I hope you're getting more out of this than I am." His tone was rather sarcastic, almost as if he was goading her. Rather than attacking, he stood firm once more, much like he had done at the start of the duel.

"I've landed two hits already." She hissed, the sound of her breathing audibly loud as she pulled herself to her feet and gave herself a vigorous shake. The pain in her back seemed to expand, burning from the touch of sand and sun.

Her pale, blue eyes were on him as he stood waiting, almost as if goading her to strike. Very well, if he wanted her to attack, then attack she would.

She shifted her weight as if to move to the left, but, in the last moment she altered her course and threw herself at him, claws unsheathed, face pulled back into a snarl. Ha, let's see if she could catch him off guard again. Then they'd see who was learning something!

(( 4/5 - Bide. XP; Apparently it is. *Shakes fist at Generator* ))

Teketeza watched her carefully, waiting for her to make his move so that he in turn could make his. "Two hits? If this was a real fight, I would've killed you after my first." It was funny really, that she was now the one getting flustered, and he was the one who was mentally in control of the duel.

When she finally chose to make her move, Teketeza was ready for her. Although she attempted to fool him by going one way and then another, he judged the timing of her attack to perfection. As soon as she reached him, he dropped his head and moved to butt her in the side. Not to injure, but to knock her back once more. "You're going to have to do better than that."

He was playing with her. The realisation of it hit home and she snarled as she was knocked off balance, her attack crumpling instantly as she hit the sand, her claws having cut only air.

But, Roho was not down yet. And, keeping her mouth clamped shut so as not to answer his goading, she swung around on her paws - using her agility to aid her - and struck up again, hoping to cuff him under the jaw and rattle some of his teeth loose.

She had known it had been a risky move even before she had started it, of course. She had not taken the time to gather her balance or get some weight behind her. She knew the only real advantage she had over him was her speed, but to use that meant sacrificing other aspects of battle. Even so, if she could land a hit, the risk would be worth it.

A shame, then, that it would be made in vain.

She had started to become more erratic, more unpredictable. He could tell that she was getting angry, and with good reason. He would be angry too if someone taunted him like this in battle. Which, to his surprise, was quite the revelation. With her being so wound up, she was being careless, her attacks were missing. It made him think back to the war games. In his anger, he had found it very difficult to focus. Had that really compromised his ability to fight? No. The fire that burned within him made him strong in battle, even if that fire consumed him at times.

Apparently for Roho, that wasn't the case. Her fire had caused her to make mistakes. As Teketeza considered this, he blinked as he realised exactly what he was thinking. Her fire. Instead of running away in fear, or cowering when he went to attack her, she had remained strong. He frowned deeply, not entirely sure what to make of his own thoughts.

After her latest attack failed to connect due to him dodging it once more, he snarled viciously at her. "Is that all you've got?!" This lesson, or test, or whatever it was was now coming to and end. Her last attack had left her fairly exposed, so now it was time to go in for the kill. He lunged forward, grabbing her roughly around the neck in order to forcefully slam her into the ground.

As much as she hated to admit it, the answer to Teketza's question was 'yes'. She'd taken too many hits and if she took many more, others might start to ask questions. She hadn't even taken the time to tell Nawvlee - which was almost unheard of, for her.

And then the grey lion had her about the throat and she gave a strangled gasp as she tried to struggle. She had no chance, of course, and as she was slammed against the ground, her breath left her in one 'whoosh' and she gasped like a fish out of water. Somehow, through her constricted airways she managed to choke out: "I concede." She coughed and spoke again, clearer this time. "I concede. The duel is yours, Teketeza."

Roho hesitated a moment before slowly trying to pull herself back to her paws, wary in case he decided to continue even after declaring him the winner.

"So, how was it, fighting a Hongshan?" Her voice was dry and she coughed again.

Teketeza didn't let go at first, but he did after the second time that Roho gasped that she conceded. He got quickly to his feet and shook out his mane a little before turning his attentions back to the dark red female. He eyed her carefully, looking for any signs of injury. She seemed fine overall, despite how seriously he had taken the duel.

When she next spoke up, Teketeza raised a brow. "Not as pathetic as I thought it would be." Apparently, that was as close to a compliment that Roho was going to get, as the firey grey male was still not a fan of the Hongshan, and he most likely never would be. Still, after their fight, he wouldn't be so doubtful of this particular Hongshan's ability to fight. Even if she did get wound up easily. A bit like him.

"What about you? Do you think you're ready to fight the Nergui now?"

The corner of her mouth turned upwards in the beginnings of a smirk. His response certainly could have been worse, which meant that she hadn't done too badly. At his question, though, her face returned to its typical stern expression. Her reply was blunt and honest. She wasn't going to fool herself.

"Ready? No. One duel will not be enough for that. Maybe not even a thousand duels. I need to find the inner peace I once had." She drew in a deep breath, feeling strangely better now that she'd expended some energy. She'd held herself proudly and though she had been beaten, she knew, now, that she could become the warrior she wanted to be - with time. But how much time would she be allowed? The Nergui could have been on their doorstep at any time.

"If I asked you to duel with me again, what would your answer be?" The wound in her back was bothering her now, though she made sure not to show any sign. It could have been worse. Far worse. "I want to be as ready as I can be. I want to help the rest of the Hongshan find their spirits again."

Teketeza's usual frown returned when the dark female revealed that she was not yet ready to fight the Nergui, and she didn't seem sure if she ever would be. "The Nergui won't care whether or not you're ready. When the time comes, if you're not ready, I'll personally make sure that you stay at home." The way he said it, it sounded like a threat. If she wanted to fight the Nergui, she would have to prove to Teketeza that she wasn't going to flip out again.

When asked if he would duel her again, he gave a simple nod of his head. "I suppose I would have to say yes, as that may be the only way for me to tell whether or not you're ready." The thought of having further interaction with Roho didn't please him, simply because he was still of the mind that he didn't want to help them. If they failed, it should be off their own back. If Roho failed, even after he had helped her somewhat, it would be his problem as well.

When this dawned on him, his frown distorted into a snarl. "Don't you dare tell anyone about today, you got that? I don't want any of the other Firekin thinking that I've helped you." In some Firekin's eyes, helping the Hongshan to be more mentally stable in battle would be a good thing. In others though, it just wouldn't.

"I will be ready." She replied firmly, her eyes hard. "You can rest assured about that. I do not intend to let another home fall to the claws of those Nergui." And she meant it, too.

She dipped her head respectfully. His attitude might have needed some work but his prowess in battle could not be denied. "Thank you." She would duel him again and next time she would lose. She drew herself up, her chest expanding as she drew in a long breath. "I shall keep this arrangement a secret, Teketeza. And, when the Hongshan call victory and the Nergui lie dead you will know the part you played."

Now...now she had to take this fight to the Hongshan and help them ignite their fires, too. They were Firekin now and to be one of the kin it was time to find that kindling in their heart to set them ablaze. With another small dip of her head she turned and moved off across the sand, eager to get back and deal with the wounds she had suffered and mentally prepare for the next time she would face the grey lion in a duel.
