Landon Blackwell Jones
||||!~The Golden Boy~!||||

☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★

Landon surfed closer to listen to what Rutilio and Kartlos had to tell him, ignoring Juliana, who was swimming with a distant look in her eyes. He laughed aloud at his brother’s question, a boisterous and youthfully energetic laugh. Their adopted dad never had the ability to read the atmosphere; he might have saved himself many enemies if he had.

Both boys seemed eager to see what California had found, and he was only too happy to oblige. “I found an abandoned van on an abandoned sandbar!” he exclaimed. “Looked like there was something good in it too! It looked real lonely and probably wants to play with us! Come on!” With that, he cut a sharp turn in the water that blasted the gulf state with ocean spray and tacked off again. He remembered belatedly that neither Ruti nor Kartlos was as fast as he on the board—the Georgian was actually in the water—and slowed down to let them catch up before leading on at a slower pace.

In due time, all three of them made it to the isolated sandbar. Landon dismounted from his board in much the same way a skateboarder would dismount a rail and approached the black van with his board in hand. It seemed that someone had ransacked the vehicle, but found it impossible to move the heavy tank inside. A baby dolphin mewled pitifully inside the tank, and the Californian’s heart went out to it. It seemed to be barely hanging on; its flipper was badly torn and ragged, and long scars that reminded him of whiplash ran down its side. Landon clenched his fists angrily at the sorry creature. Who could be so cruel as to abuse the most intelligent animal in the sea?

Out of San Francisco: It's the injured dolphin! You guys can do whatever, but Landon won't float it (teleportation or drifting alongside the Citroen?) to the pool until Juliana reacts.

After finishing her tube, Juliana had swung her board around and spread her legs so that she could straddle its middle while she went over a wave with ease. She slowly kicked her legs in a circle as she leaned forward, her hands clasped together and stretched far before her. Her large coastline squished against her multi-colored board with ease, causing a slight bend in her spine that looked more erotic than anything else. The scent of the sea and the warm rays that kissed at her tanned skin reminded her so much of home. As the waves rolled by her, she bent her elbows upwards so that she could rest her chin upon her slender palms. A few of her fingertips brushed by her damp bangs as a soft sigh emitted from her parted lips.

Today was just a perfect day and she was happy to be here. It sure beat staying at school going to class and...and...oh! Oh no! The buxom Brazilian thought to herself as she lowered her hands from her face and used them against the surfboard to roll her body back into a sitting position. As her board fell behind another wave, her ears then perked up as she heard her name being called by Landon. It seemed that he had found a sand bar a ways away from where she was. Picking her feet up and out of the water, she then dove her hands into the water, beginning to paddle he way over to him. "Oye! I'm on my way~!" She exclaimed as she neared the cluster that was beginning to form around Landon.

As she got closer, she found herself in front of a van that was oddly parked upon the sand bank. She slid off of the board quickly, dipping once more into the water before she resurfaced, slicking her hair back with her palms once more. She unstrapped the velcro around her ankle before she lifted her board out of the water before shoving into the sand upright, so that it would be easy to manage afterwards. After a moment or two, she then turned around and ran towards Landon, slipping once on the sand, but she quickly caught herself before she made it to his side. She didn't like how there was just this abandoned van in the middle of nowhere, but she also was curious as to why it was there. "What is it Landon?" She asked him as she placed her hands upon his shoulders, pressing on them slightly as she peered over his shoulder into the back of the van, blinking slowly. Almost immediately her eyes widened as her grip tightened a bit, her front now against his back. "Oh my god, is that really?"

The State of Florida
Rutilio Acosta Carriedo

Grade 10
The Sunny Sophomore!

Florida isn't so much a place
where one goes to
reinvent oneself,
as it is a place where one goes
if one no longer

"An abandoned van?" Florida muttered suspiciously, reminded of more than a few of Landon's horror movies which had started under similar premises. If there was some sort of sea monster patrolling the area he'd probably need to go back and question those crabs about it... Not that sea monsters were real, of course. Usually they were merely regular animals that had grown particularly big which got that sort of unfair title. Or at least that was how he viewed most sea serpents and the Kraken. "This had better not be some sort of radioactive mutant or genetic experiment..."

Despite his reservations, Rutilio was too curious not to follow his brother and paddled after the younger state although he stuck near Kartlos in case the land lover needed to grab onto the board for help. Once they got close to the shore the state tensed as he began to make out the soft, faint pleas for help coming from the van. The state's blue eyes were already wide and filled with anxiety and he abandoned the surf board and Kartlos to run up to where the baby dolphin was, almost shoving California and Juliana out of his way.

"Meirda!" he swore in Spanish which was followed by a soft, hissed a very old phrase that wasn't proper for anyone of any age to hear. He moved over to the tank and hoped up on the edge without a second thought as he tried to speak softly to it. "Do not be afraid, nino," he said gently as if talking to any human child as he slipped into the water with the baby. "We are going to help you. Can you tell me where your parents are? You aren't here alone, are you?" It was a very, very bad sign to see a little dolphin away from its pod and Rutilio had a terrible feeling what this child's story might be.

Kartlos Beridze

The Musical Sophomore

Kartlos had no problem keeping up with Landon once he slowed down a bit. He was strong enough and quite curious about this abandoned van and sandbar. Certainly there must be something interesting there, otherwise Landon wouldn't be taking them there. Once they got there he saw the van. He was curious about what was inside it(because obviously there must be something interesting in there, he decided. Why else would it be here if not for them to find and have fun with?) and ran up to it, following closely behind Landon. The vehicle appeared mostly empty, save one large tank, apparently too heavy to move. Kartlos approached the tank, wanting to get a better look at what was inside. "What?... Is that a..." Kartlos wiped the water off of his glasses so that he could actually see. When he finally could see what was in the tank, he didn't like what he saw. He gasped at the horrible sight. Who would do such a thing to a poor innocent dolphin? And the poor thing was just a baby! What kind of sick person could have done such a thing? Kartlos didn't know, but what he did know was that he could save it, he was a healer after all! He leaned over the edge of the tank putting his hands into the water. He didn't want to frighten it by getting in all the way- And so much for that, Rutilio just hopped in and started talking to it. Kartlos tilted his head a bit at that. His new friend sure was strange... He reached out towards the injured dolphin. "Come here little guy." he said quietly and calmly. "I'll make you all better."

Landon Blackwell Jones

☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★

Landon could only watch as Kartlos and Rutilio immediately crowded around the little dolphin to offer their aid. The Californian would like to say that Juliana’s hands on his shoulder—and her other assets on his back—were preventing him from moving closer, but in reality, he had no idea what he could do to help. His water magic was no good for healing, although it could purify that water or move the dolphin elsewhere… Landon just hated to admit to himself that he was actually helpless when every bit of aid counted. At least the other boys seemed to know what they were doing—California was even amazed to see Georgia heal the poor marine mammal.

The dolphin cringed away from the strange humans who were beginning to crowd around its cramped tank. Sure, the whip-men had left it a spacious enough body of water to swim in, but it missed its family and the safety of its pod. Another man had shown up and spilled some of the water inside its tank trying to bring it back to the ocean, and for that the dolphin was grateful. But it was still another man, and men were not to be trusted… One had only to regard its flank-length scars and its torn flipper, as the infant now did sadly. Would it ever swim again in the open sea? The dolphin certainly hoped so…

As the brown-haired man with the funny pants hopped into the tank alongside it, the dolphin flinched and retreated; but it had nowhere else to go, and instead flattened its dorsal fin against the hard glass edge of the tank. She desperately wanted to leave this place, but the tank was far too heavy for her to move, and she was too far away from the water to make it alone.

Then the brown-haired man started talking, and the dolphin was amazed to realize she could understand the human. The man asked about her family and reassured him that he and his friends were going to help her. The dolphin doubted it, but as none of the four humans made a move to grab it or attack it as the trainers had done, it slowly began to relax.

The dolphin took in a shuddery breath through her aggrieved blowhole and began to tell her sad tale. She and her parents had been swimming peacefully along in the ocean when a large boat passed by. Her parents, being friendly sorts, had thought the boat to simply be travelling for pleasure, and jumped and played in the waves, putting on a wonderful show. After all, few humans despised the shows dolphins put on for them. As for the infant, she too had joined in their merrymaking, thinking much the same thing.

Then the nets came. The humans shouted something incoherent and a huge net dropped down on them from the sky, trapping all three dolphins before cinching tightly to prevent their escape. The baby’s parents struggled and screamed; she herself could do little but fight for breath, as she had been pinned between them when the net closed. Then the men shot vicious pointy weapons clear through first her mother’s flank, then her father’s. Whether they perished first from suffocation for from blood loss, the little dolphin didn’t know.

The bad men, discovering they had missed her, angled the murderous weapon at her, but then their captain stepped in and convinced them to put it away. The infant was happy, until it realized what the captain had in store for her. He and his men released the dolphin to a tank and forced it to do tricks for them, tricks the infant did not want to do, for those were the same tricks that had killed her parents. Whenever she refused, the men would lash her with long ropelike things, opening stinging wounds that screamed in agony every time she moved about in the salty water. Eventually, the infant remembered, she forced herself to do as the men commanded, even when injured, for to disobey meant to suffer more.

Then the other man came. He snuck at night into the building in which the dolphin was being held and dispatched the few guards that were there. At first, she thought this man meant to hurt her too, but when she could see through the back window of their van—which she could only reach standing on her tail—the ocean growing nearer, the dolphin baby could again feel happy.

But it had suffered too much to swim out to the ocean itself, and the gang came back. They beat the dolphin’s rescuer horribly, and the animal knew not whether he survived, but fled when they heard a siren in the air. She had been trapped in this tank for nearly a day, hungry, cold, and alone, waiting, crying, hoping for someone to hear its pleas.

So engrossed had the dolphin been in recounting the dreadful tale that she had not noticed another blue-haired man approach him from behind. He murmured some unintelligible words, and the dolphin was shocked to realize that it could move its flippers again.

But far off, she could hear tones. She shuddered, for they sounded exactly like the tones used by her abusive trainers, and she began chirping excitedly for these humans to get her out of this place.

Florida isn't so much a place

Florida listened quietly to the dolphin's story, his eyes softening sadly at how she had been forced to watch her parents murdered then forced to perform by her captors. It was a terrible story that he had heard one too many times from similar creatures who had been abducted then sold on the black market. He started to speak until she began to panic and seemed frightened. The state swore under his breath and paled as he realized the gang would definitely come back to claim her.

"We have to go," he told the others. "I do not have time to explain, but we must get out of here immediately! Someone dangerous is coming and we can't leave her here." The Floridian turned his attention back to the little dolphin and carefully held out his arms to her in the water, trying to approach slowly so she wouldn't become even more distressed and hurt herself.

"Here, chica, it is ok now. We will go right away," he said. "Come here, si? I promise I won't hurt you, but you need to let me carry you for a little while so we can get away from here." It would be nice if they could simply leave her in the ocean, but after being left exposed and starving for a day he doubted she had the strength to make it on her own even if she was an adult. They needed to swim back to where Juliana's car was and try to get her some place safe to recover.

"Alta, how long can you hold one of your bubbles?" he asked his brother as he tried to form a plan. "Juliana, you might want to swim ahead and get the car ready. I think we will need to move very quickly."

Kartlos Beridze

The Musical Sophomore

Kartlos was quite stunnned at the dolphin's excited chirping, almost seeming like... it could talk to Rutilio? Kartlos glanced over at Rutilio, who was nodding as if he understood the poor creature. Could Rutilio really talk to sea creatures? Strange... But this distracted the dolphin, and Kartlos used this as an opportunity to heal the dolphin baby without it freaking out about him being too near. He quietly sang something in Georgian, a healing spell, and soon both he and the dolphin seemed to be glowing as the dolphin healed. Unfortunately, the dolphin's injuries were bad, and due to the fact that Kartlos had healed him so quickly(ordinarily these things take time you know), the healing had drained much of the Georgian's energy. Kartlos sat on the ground outside the tank as the light surrounding them faded. "What? I don't think I..." Kartlos started to say he didn't think he'd be able to go so quickly, but after hearing the rest of what Florida had to say, Kartlos decided he would just have to try anyway. He picked himself back up, looking paler than usual and seeming quite shaky. He realized that he probably didn't have the energy to make it all the way back to the car, since the abandoned sandbar was some distance away from where they had started, but he hoped that if he started drowning, at least someone was sure to save him. At least he hoped so.

Landon Blackwell Jones
||||!~The Golden Boy~!||||

☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★

Landon had no idea what was going on, but at least they now knew what the baby dolphin was doing here and how. Could Rutilio really understand dolphin speech? He made a note to try and catch the Floridian in the act sometime.

But now was not the time to conjure up plans to annoy the other state. The animal had begun chirping rather excitedly for such a broken-looking individual, and Ruti seemed to interpret it as impending danger. From what he said, a gang was approaching in the distance? Landon certainly didn't hear anything intelligible, but he knew better than to doubt his older brother’s words.

When Florida asked how long California could sustain his bubbles, he was at first stunned at his brother's incredible memory. After all, Landon hadn't trapped his siblings in bubbles for years, and Ruti had no Paparazzi to spy on his more recent antics with Croatia. That initial confusion quickly gave way to his usual confidence. "I could hold it for eons!" Landon boasted. "You think I'd forget to practice something as fun as that?"

Truth be told, he could only hold a single man-sized bubble for four hours before needing to sleep deeply, but it was probably long enough; Landon figured it would take barely an eighth of that to transport the baby dolphin elsewhere. As he watched, Kartlos stumbled and fell heavily to a sitting position, looking rather pale and shaky after expending so much energy to heal the worst of the marine animal's wounds. "And another one bites the dust," Landon said wryly. "Guess I gotta carry you too." The Georgian looked in no condition to walk anywhere, let alone swim back to the car. That definitely meant he wasn't surfing anywhere anytime soon.

With another person down and Landon already tied carrying two beings around by bubble, there was little chance they could all make it back to the car in time under their own power. He scanned the undergrowth beyond the van and saw that there was an overgrown but serviceable paved road there. "Here's the deal," Landon told the others. "I can carry both the dolphin and Kartlos for a while, but if this supposed gang shows up, we'll all need energy to fight. I'll put you both in bubbles now, but we gotta move fast.”

As if anyone needed reminding.

After a little thought as to what to do with the dolphin, Landon continued. "I think we should take this baby to the campus pool. The school’s close enough, and it ought to be secluded enough that whoever wants her back won’t know where we are. Juliana, it looks like there's an overgrown road back there," he told her, looking over his shoulder and pointing. "you up for a little off-roading?"

At the Brazilian's nod and subsequent departure, Landon grinned and turned back to Kartlos and the dolphin. With a careless, almost flippant gesture, he launched two aquamarine balls of magical energy at the two. They struck their targets and expanded rapidly, so rapidly that Rutilio was forced to step back. When the glow faded, both Georgian and dolphin were suspended in two comfy life-giving bubbles. Landon held them there for a moment, hoping Juliana would return quickly.

The dolphin looked from the brown-haired boy to his friends. It seemed that they were willing to help her get back to the water. But how were they going to do it? There was no water for her to swim in...

She screeched in surprise when she was levitated out of her tank and suspended a couple feet above. After a brief struggle, she realized that the new case she was in was neither suffocating nor confining. It rather reminded her of the ocean, actually, and she could even breathe freely in it. The dolphin decided she would wait and see what happened next. These humans seemed like good sorts, but if they thought to confine her again, they were in for a thrashing. Water or not.

Kartlos Beridze

Kartlos was glad to hear Landon boast that he could hold one of his bubbles “for eons”, though he was certain that that was probably an overexaggeration. He was glad when Landon offered to give him a bubble ride as well. "Heh heh, thanks." said sheepishly, quite embarrassed by the fact that he had to get a ride. He nodded at Landon’s instructions. He hoped that the gang wouldn’t show up, but he would try to reserve his little remaining energy for in case they did. The school pool seemed like a good place to keep it, and he was fairly certain that ordinary people weren’t supposed to know about the school, so it was quite likely that the dolphin would never be found there. When Landon shot an orb of magical energy at him, Kartlos was surprised for a moment, nearly falling as it expanded around him. He relaxed once the bubble had formed, laying back in the surprisingly comfortable bubble

Juliana blinked slowly as Rutilio just hopped in the back of some stranger's van and into the same tank as the injured dolphin. Her plump lips parted for a moment before they pursed together, her eyebrows furrowing at the same time as she thought to herself, I wonder how this little guy got here, where are his parents? After a moment, she then removed herself from pressing against Landon's back, dusting some sand off of her stomach as she moved so she were standing beside him. Her emerald orbs quickly found themselves fixated on Kartlos as he too made his way into the van, if only partially, and healed the injured, baby dolphin. She wished that she possessed some sort of healing magic or even some sort of water magic like Landon, so she could help the poor creature.

But her calling soon came when Rutilio turned towards the rest of the group and told them that they needed to go. The Brazilian had her fair share of horrible bosses, coniving con-men, and ruthless drug and crime circles so she could imagine to some degree the kind of people that they were going to be dealing with. When the state called her name, she nodded slowly. "Ah, yes. But the pool at the school?" She questioned Landon as she looked at him, making her way back to her surfboard and strapping the velco strap around her ankle. "Wouldn't the Chlorine hurt the dear thing more than help it? We should give her to marine biologists or other experts to help her, they would have more training in dealing with her injuries, malnourishment, and also helping her get integrated back into the ocean once she's grown more." She stated, hoping that the rest of the group would listen to her. Yes, she was an avid animal-lover. But she had to be when dealing with her marine life as well as the wide variety of flora and fauna that she took care of in her Amazon rainforest.

But after a moment or two, she lifted her surfboard from the water, tucking it under her right arm and holding it there so she could fling herself into the water and start paddling out at any time. When Landon caught her attention one last time, she flicked her emerald orbs towards the area that he was referring to. Slowly she dragged her gaze alone the coastline until she reached the area where she had parked her car. It was going to be a lengthy paddle, but she knew she could do it. "Yeah, off-roading sounds fun to me~! I'll be back in a jiffy guys, you can count on me~!" And with that, she dove into the ocean and began to paddle back to the beach where they originally came from.

Soft pants emitted from her nude lips as she hopped up onto her surfboard and rode a sizable wave back to the beach she needed to go. Her arms were a bit tired from paddling all the way, but she knew that she still needed to hurry if she were to help her friends save the dolphin. Quickly, she strapped her surfboard to the top of her vehicle before she ran around to the front seat, key in hand. She didn't care if she were still wet when she sat down in her car, so she just shoved them into the ignition before starting her car and pulling out of the spot. After configuring what path she needed to go, Juliana then flored it into the shrubbery and trees that surrounded the beach. Luckily there was a small path that was dug into the earth below, but that was quickly covered up by everything that was in her way. Branches smacked against her windshield as she continued to drive hectically through the off-road terrain she had to endure.

"Ninos~!" She hollered in Spanish as she tried to turn left to make it closer to the water, but found herself suddenly spinning out after hitting a hidden pot-hole that she hadn't seen previously. She screamed as she held onto the steering wheel, trying to regain control of her vehicle before it would start flipping over into the ocean or something like that. Eventually though, she was able to slow down the spinning enough to regain control and steer her car back in the direction that she needed to go. After a few more minutes, she eventually burst through the flora that was beside the van and screeched to a hault, jumping out before her car stopped completely. She stumbled and fell to her knees, panting still before she slowly stood up and tried to shake off her terrifying experience like it was nothing. "Ninos! Ninos~! I'm back~!" She exclaimed as she ran around to her trunk and opening it up wide. After moving some things around, she then pulled out a rather large drink cooler that she used whenever she was having one of her fun beach parties. "Do you think keeping her in this until we get her to somewhere safer would work?"

"Any time, amigo," Landon replied airily, holding a finger extended from his cross-armed position to hold both bubbles aloft. The dolphin seemed to have calmed down some too, which made sustaining them that much easier.

Before Juliana left to get her car, she raised her own concerns about the safety of the campus pool for such a young and weak animal. Landon quirked an eyebrow up in thought, for her point was a valid one. "Good idea, Juliana," he told her, "but we don't exactly have time to call all those biologists, do we? I can purify the water in the pool--it should be easy enough if the drive is quick--so the pool will simply have to do."

After Brazil swam away after her vehicle, Landon quickly got bored. He began shifting the bubbles about in idyllic leisure, tracing an elegant pattern through the air with them.

Her scream startled California though, causing his control over the spheres to falter. He hastily grabbed the dolphin's bubble before it could fall too badly, but the delay caused Kartlos' to drop farther before it was caught. Landon grinned an apology at the Georgian even as he gazed up at the hidden path to see how Juliana was doing. It seemed she had hit a pothole, but her Citroen was little worse for the wear.

She herself soon emerged, towing a large drink cooler for the dolphin to nestle in. Landon inspected it carefully. Thankfully, the container was clean and empty, and not having to levitate one bubble would certainly save him energy if this supposed gang showed up. "Yeah, I think that'll work," California said, gratefully resting the infant's bubble inside. "So long as we leave the lid open, it'll be fine." His bubbles ought to be durable enough to withstand a rough ride.

After floating Kartlos into a seat, Landon hopped in himself, as did Rutilio. "This is kinda fun, actually!" he exclaimed as they sped away. "Doesn't this feel like a real adventure?"

(Phone. Now the school is obligated to raise our dolphin. biggrin )

The State of Florida
Rutilio Acosta Carriedo

Grade 10
The Sunny Sophomore!

Florida isn't so much a place
where one goes to
reinvent oneself,
as it is a place where one goes
if one no longer
wished to be found.

Florida cringed when the baby dolphin was suddenly wrapped up in the bubble without any prior warning and frowned at his impulsive brother. "Go easy! She is just a child!" he objected even though to everyone else she was just a baby dolphin. "She's had a hard enough time without us frightening her more."

Rutilio climbed out of the tank and hovered near the poor dolphin, trying to reassure her everything would be alright and no one was going to hurt her. He was so focused on the little dolphin he almost completely missed Juliana's brilliant near wreck and only looked up in time to see her jump out while it came to a stop. "Chica, jumping out of moving cars is dangerous," he said as if that was the most dangerous thing that had just happened.

Well, no sense worrying about that. He was also a bit more uncomfortable with the idea of putting the poor dolphin in a cooler, but beggars couldn't be choosers. Like California said, they didn't really have the luxury of proper rescue equipment nor facilities. The Floridian's gaze turned away from the others as he surveyed the beach and wondered how close those men were for a baby dolphin to sense them. What would they do if those men spotted them and gave chase?

"Brazil, your car is pretty fast, si? How good are you at road races?" he asked just in case someone decided to try bumping them off said road. Before NASCAR road racing had been one of the greatest sources of amusement and the height of social gatherings in the South. He was fairly familiar with the concept although car chases were a little bit more dangerous than regular racing.

Florida has its own rhythm, too.
People go to
work,
they watch their children
learn and grow
and
start families of their own.
They
play in the sun and pass their lives
enjoying the
outsized blessings
that make our state unique.

Kartlos Beridze

The Musical Sophomore

Kartlos flailed about, finding nothing to hold him steady as the bubble dropped. He let out a sigh of relief as Landon caught the bubble "I'm fine." he said both to himself and to Landon who had just apologized. He didn't know much about marine animals, so he didn't really question what any of them were doing with the dolphin. "Yeah this is pretty fun." he agreed. As long as they didn't get in trouble from the school, because they had already missed most of the school day he was certain.

When Rutilio asked about her previous racing experience, Juliana turned her head towards the Floridian with a devilish grin. "Oh, I have racing experience, trust me on that~!" She exclaimed as she adjusted the cooler so that it could fit more properly in her trunk with the baby dolphin inside. "My people are very flamboyant with our street racing. Taking basic cars and turning them into speed demons, if these guys are anything what I'm used to, they're some dangerous people if they are gonna traffic this little guy." Her gaze fell to the dolphin once more, unaware that it was really a female. With a soft sigh, she then turned to the rest of the guys, grabbing a pair of jean shorts that she had left in the trunk and slipped them on, wanting at least some decency if the worst came to worst. "Well in any case, we should definitely be getting out of here and quick. Vamos~!" She called to everyone who was gathered around her car before she turned on her heel and walked up to her front seat and fumbled around for something underneath it. Once she found what she was looking for, she pulled out the case before leaning it against the front of her seat. "Just in case..." She whispered to herself before she let out a soft sigh.
