If her heart might have fluttered before, it definitely skipped a beat now as he smiled up roguishly on bended knee. Careful not to let her reaction show, she leaned down and deftly applied the feather just behind a velvety ear. A light, testing, breath - it held. She drew back, beaming: with - ah, what did he say it was like? Oh, yes - a beam of sunlight against his darker pelt, he looked every inch a desert prince.
"It suits you," she softly said.Ruriska Aaah so happy to be doing an RP like this for Vexed - I usually play her for laughs, but I always wanted some nice guy to come along and make her forget her OCD for a while!

He lifted slowly from his bow, moving his head carefully from one side to the other. Perhaps later he would find a clear pool to inspect his appearance himself, but for now, her assurance was enough. “I am very grateful.” He hummed a pleasant note, holding his head high. “The Master Storyteller will begin,” his eyes twinkled merrily, “if you are ready…?”

That smooth note sparked a childish excitement in her, like that of a filly told to bed in for a night's tale. "As ready as I'll ever be," which was true in all senses, but the lilt was back in her voice. Sweeping a hindleg over the immaculate patch of moss she maintained for Be Mine's visits, she settled down, beaming up at him in rapt anticipation.

Journey settled down in front of Vexed, and despite being smaller of stature than the doe, he still managed to look both distinguished and quite dashing, the plume sitting proudly on his head. First he let out a soft sigh, eyes going distant, recalling images from the past… and then he spoke, letting words flow and weave. They were no longer in the Swamp, no, now they stood in the desert of his beginning, feeling the heavy sun bearing down on their backs. Journey forgot the current moment and instead lived again the long dusty path he had travelled.

Vexed listened. She listened and listened and thirsted for more and kept listening, even as the sun slowly sank low. Somewhere out there a buck was wondering what had happened to the poultry he'd ordered, the little hunter was usually on the dot, but Vexed put him out of mind and listened anyway. Deep into the third of his stories, her constant companion finally found his way home, though the carcass he had been carrying did not, but Vexed hardly paid heed, not even to cluck at the loss, and went on listening.
And even when the Acha's tales for the day were done, ever after when he found his winding way back to her tree, she would sit and listen, and it brought her a kind of hard-found peace.
