It wasn't long before the wher came to a stop and looked back to the woman behind him. Huffing, a little out of breath, Careesi stopped beside Kazzisk and looked down at the ground. There just a foot or so in front of Kazzisk, was another trail. It was hard for her to tell what sort of tracks they were exactly, but Kazzisk appeared to be excited now. Feeling hopeful, Careesi uged the wher onward, staying as close to him as she could.

This particular trail appeared to be much more recent than the carcass that she had followed earlier. As she continued on, the tracks appeared to become much more clear to her. The woman believed that they were wher tracks, but she couldn't be completely sure just yet. If there was one thing that her father had told her, it was that you could never be too sure. Always double check your work and never simply assume something. Assuming things could easily get you killed.

Looking ahead of her, in the directions that the tracks were going, it appeared that they made their way into the brush. Feeling like she might be on to something, Careesi carefully made her way into the forest.

Having looped back into the bush and approaching Sasar from the west, Careesi and her wher happened upon relatively fresh tracks, the marks deep and clear in the mud of the trail, emphasized by the bend of the grass as if a bulk has passed recently by. A fresh trail to follow, it was certainly a good sign.

Luck was in store for Sasar as well.... for after their angry exchange, the creature they'd scared into the distance suddenly let out a death scream that pierced the evening air and was followed by the rumbling roar of a wher... and none of their whers.

The sound was enough to draw the bronze wher's attention and he looked up sharply, full of intense concentration as he scanned the area for the heat signatures of their charges. Small bodies here and there - the fauna of the woods - but no hot shapes of the youths. Yawning, the bronze and his handler began to pad in that direction.

======
SPECIAL EVENT: Something's killed the animal Sasar spooked out of hiding... it's between Sasar and Careesi from the direction of the sound. Roll 1d10 with each roll. Compare them to this post for ease of movement through the brush AND to each others' posts. If both are odd, you DO NOT recognize each other, if both are even, you DO recognize each other - roleplay accordingly.

Sasar would be the first to insist that nothing ever frightened him. But that death scream, so close and loud sent a chill down his spine that was unfamiliar. He felt his heart clench in his chest as Tyrisk whirled about at full attention, his eyes glowing orange and yellow in the night. The roar of the wher quickened him again as he remembered their purpose. If it wasn't the wild wher then one of the other's might be in trouble. He could

Sasar made eye contact with Tyrisk. "Find It!" He charged after the wher into the undergrowth. Sasar released the net from him belt, holding it ready in his hands.

Careesi reached the brush and began to make her way through it as a loud piercing scream sounded in the night. The sound startled the woman and she abruptly came to a halt, waiting to see if she could hear anything else. With Kazzisk itching to continue on and nothing else to be heard, the woman adjusted her position in the direction that she had heard the sound. Perhaps she had finally managed to find the wher. That or one of the others could have run into some trouble. She certainly hoped that this was not the case. However, Careesi kept her guard up and moved with an even greater sense of urgency just in case someone was actually in trouble.

"Come on Kazzisk." Careesi huffed out as she tried to move through the brush. "Help me find it, show me where the sound came from." She told him. Sure she knew he was already rushing towards the sound, but at her urging, it appeared as if the wher also became more aware of his surroundings and picked up speed as well.

As each of the whers charged... the command Sasar gave Tyrisk sent him barreling through the brush with a surge that left only broken foliage in his wake. Growling and rumbling, the brown was charging with his head down and teeth bared, having spotted a target.

That target, unfortunately, was Kazzisk. Tyrisk's trainer had spoken truly when they had warned Sasar to be careful which direction they pointed the wher... as it seemed the brown experienced tunnel vision when given a target to rend.

The roars of the brown were challenges, loud, strong... vicious.

====
SPECIAL EVENT:
Careesi/Kazzisk: Roll 1d10 to avoid the brown's charge. Rolling well is a complete dodge for both human and where, equalling the roll, the human dodges and the wher takes the brunt of the hit, roll poorly and the human and the wher are caught in the charge. It is up to the player the degree of damage taken in any case.

Sasar/Tyrisk: Roll 1d10 to try to curb your wher's wrath. Roll well and he may pause, adding 2 to Careesi's dodge roll. Roll poorly and it angers him even more, subtracting 1 from Careesi's dodge roll. You may use the net to interrupt the charge on the second roll, in which case if you roll well, you do not hurt the brown and suceed in stopping the charge. If you roll poorly, you trip him and injure him in some fashion - your choice.

Sasar followed Tyrisk's path excitement urging him faster as he finally spotted their target. A Blue Wher! Tyrisk had a beeline on the beast, still a distance away. Sasar's elation turned to horror as he saw Careesi. He put the fingers of his right hand into his mouth and blew a loud peircing whistle, the strongest command to stop he knew.

Sasar swore loudly, bellowing out to her. "Woman! Out of the Way!"

Tyrisk paid no heed to Sasar's command. He had his mark and no one could stop this bloodthirsty beast now. He roared, saliva dripping from his open jaws, eyes burning red as he closed the gap between him and his prey.

Sasar roared along with the beast, launching the heavy net at the wild brown. Suddenly his own wher was more of a threat than whatever had killed that creature. His last hope as forestalling tragedy was flying through the air. Careesi would have to fend for herself.

Careesi came barreling through the brush making her way through it without too much difficulty. Once again Kazzisk was in the lead, bringing her closer and closer to where the cry had come from. In what was only a few minutes, Careesi could hear a wher approaching and fast. Before she had any time to think or to slow down her own wher, she heard a man shouting out to her. Looking she spotted Sasar with his wher Tyrisk barreling straight for her and Kazzisk, without hesitating Careesi lunged to the side, trying to call Kazzisk along with her as well.

Careesi had tried to leap out of the way as the brown came barreling towards her. However, she had hesitated a moment too long and was unable to move quickly enough to escape the wher. As Tyrisk clashed with Kazzisk, Careesi found herself caught in their brawl. The woman was knocked back by the commotion and cried out as she fell on her arm. Twisting it while trying to catch herself, the woman heard a loud snap and cried once more in pain as her arm broke. Trying not to concentrate on the pain, Careesi gritted her teeth and tried to catch her bearings. Noticing that the two whers were still focused on each other, Careesi scrambled to her feet. She moved as quickly as she could out of the way. Hoping to avoid any more damage.

Tyrisk leapt into the air, claws and teeth aimed directly for the Blue before him. There was a loud thud amidst the snarling roars as the two connected. The net connected with the brown hide, thrown true and managing to snarl with Tyrisk's hindquarters and wings, catching the claws of one foreleg as well.

Tyrisk rolled away from Kazzisk, screaming in rage at being thwarted. Sasar caught up with them, having witnessed the woman's timely dodge. He grabbed a stout branch from the ground and approached Tyrisk. The thrashing wher was his first priority. Last thing he needed after all of this was to injure someone elses bonded. "Tyrisk! Enough!" He commanded, keeping out of reach of the wher's free claws while rapping him firmly on the shoulders. It was enough to startle him out of his frenzy. Tyrisk glared at Sasar, seething at the indignity he found himself in.

Sasar left him there to stew while he checked on the other handler apprentice. "Are you injured?" He could see she was hugging herself but that could be attributed to her close call just a few moments ago.

Careesi let out a heavy sigh of relief as Sasar got Tyrisk under control. Still out of breath and a little startled, Careesi almost didn't even hear Sasar at first. Taking a few moments to comprehend that he had even asked her a question. "What?" She asked a little dazed. "Oh yes sorry I'm fine. I think my arm is broken but I've had worse." She looked over to Kazzisk then, trying to get a good view of the blue. He appeared to be okay from what she could see, but she thought it would be better to get a closer look.

"Kazzisk" She called the wher quietly, making sure that he was calm now and wouldn't bite her hand off. "Are you okay?" She continued on, holding her hand out to let him get a good sniff of her. Satisfied that he was calm enough, Careesi examined the wher. He appeared to have a few scratches and one that was a little deeper than she would have liked, but nothing that was immediately life threatening.

"Kazzisk looks okay too. I'll need to treat his scratches when we get back, but he'll be okay for now. How about you? Are you okay?" Sasar looked okay to her, but it was only polite to ask him as well.

"I'm fine. Let me see your arm." He snapped the branch over his knee a couple times, breaking it into smaller pieces and dropping all but two of the sturdiest. If her arm was broken it would need to be splinted.

"The farm should have a stash of numbweed if they're any sort of civilized. They won't appreciate our coming back with failure though. We need to continue on." That was, if the noise of their encounter hadn't scared the wher away entirely. Sasar hoped that wasn't the case.

Regaining a bit more composure, Careesi held out her left arm to Sasar. As she moved it she felt a slicing pain and grit her teeth, determined not to show any weakness to the man. She would have plenty of time to nurse her wounds when they got back. For now, however, they still had a job to do and the commotion may have just made that job twice as difficult as it had been.

"Thank you." She told him when she spotted the make shift splint. Noting that the splint would need to be secured on her arm, Careesi looked about for something to tie it with. Eying her rope she debated on using it, but decided against it. Instead, the woman tore a long strip of fabric from the bottom of her shirt. She hated losing the shirt but it was better to use it than the rope. She would very likely still need the rope. Quickly she handed the fabric to Sasar to tie off while she held the wood in place with her good arm.

To distract herself, Careesi looked about, trying to catch sign of the wher that they were supposed to be tracking. She only hoped that it was nearby.

With the brown incapacitated and the blue mildly injured, his chest streaked with green ichor from the wounds of Tyrisk's charge, the two apprentices needed to pick up the pieces. However, their attention was on themselves rather then around them and their clash had sent the forest into silence.

Further away, the bronze handler heard the roars and knew it for what it was. Cursing softly, he shook his head - why did the apprentices never listen to the warnings? Whers were not nearly as polite and considerate as dragons... they were raw power, far more similar to the feral kin then to any dragon. Hurrying a little, he kept back and sent one of his flits to perch in the branches above them to watch silently.

SPECIAL EVENT: Roll 1d10s with your posts, compare the result to this post's roll. Roll well and you notice the bulky figure lurking in the darkness deeper in the trees and the scent of blood from that direction. If you roll poorly, nobody notices. If you roll well for your first rolls, the next rolls are to determine the quality of your actions following the spotting of the figure. Please do consider your rolls in your posts.

With her arm now in the splint, Careesi began to examine the area. Sasar was correct, they needed to get their attention back to the task at hand and to try to salvage the situation. The cry that Careesi had heard hadn't been forgotten. The creature that had caused that noise still had to be nearby. It was only a matter of finding it. Even if their commotion had scared it off there should still be fresh tracks, some sort of sign to tell them where the feral wher had gone. It would only be a matter of finding these tracks and then finding the wher. This time, she would also have Sasar to help. With the wher near them, it only made sense for the pair to cooperate and work together. She only hoped that the other handler would agree.
