“I know.” He kept stroking his mate knowing more than anyone else she was suffering. Still the burning anger she had seemed to have broken and now all that was left was the river of tears. He was about to start telling her what had happened in more detail knowing that it was hard enough to hear the first time, but Joou might have more ideas on where he could search next. In his heart he felt his daughter was alive even if his mind made him doubt if Pyre was even still alive. He stiffened when he heard of Ava ending up with a mate. She was just a child. Not so his mind scolded him. She would be an adult now and he had missed her whole life. At least she had someone who was good to her by her side. Though if the male ever hurt his daughter in any way then Ardin vowed he would very much enjoy ripping the male’s throat out. He loosened his muscles so that he didn’t hurt Joou. “And you?” His voice was quite but the weight of the question nearly crushed him.

Joou curled into him feeling like a little lost kit again. For the first time in years since he left. Though she hadn't cried than. She couldn't, she had to be strong for her baby girl. She rubbed her head against him needing to be close because he was the only one in the whole world that knew and felt the pain that she did. "I meet a nice young male.I go and talk with him from time to time that way Ava doesn't have to deal with me. She has enough weight on her shoulders she doesn't need me to add to it."

Letting Joou cry Adrin wanted something to bite. A nice young male? What the hell? The pain of losing his daughter hadn’t lessened in his heart but there was a new emotion next to it. Anger, sure and unreasonable anger. If the nice young male even thought about using Joou when she was alone and undefended then Adrin would end the fool. Did he ever try and do more than just talk to Joou. Adrin growled out of reflex. And just what troubles did his daughter have? Who or what was bothering her? He didn’t like any of it. “I never should have left.”

Joou kept close, amazed that she was finding comfort in him. She didn't think it would ever happen again. She could feel the tension in him and hear the growl rumble in his chest as it rose to his throat. "You shouldn't have but you did and whats done is done." She pulled away to look up at him. "What about you?"

How was he? What could he say? That he had been living a nightmare and couldn’t find a way out? The fact that he lost his daughter haunted him in his dreams? That he had once stared at a river and considered letting himself stand in the middle and then just lay down and let whatever fate wanted to happen, happen. No he couldn’t tell her that. Joou was always so gentle and so sweet it would break her even if he did deserve it all. He couldn’t do that to her again. “Better being with you.”

She looked up at him and watched him. He wasn't telling her everything. She could feel it. Though she didn't doubt the words that came out of his mouth right than. "Your holding back aren't you? Did you find a new lover?" It worried her. She knew about his breeding with another before her time and they had talked about it but there is always some worry.

She knew him too well. Then she bothered to ask about him finding a different lover. He looked at her shocked completely and utterly. “A new...” He tried to put it together and when he did he started laughing. The idea was so ludicrous it was insane. “No!” He said it low and sternly. Shaking his head he couldn’t even imagine another pairing if he weren’t with Joou. “Joou how could you even think of such a thing?”

She pawed at the ground feeling stupid no. She should have had more faith but the years and worn down on him and she let doubt get to her. "Well you know cause of being with Amberrose than with me and all of your children......I'm sorry that was stupid of me." She was still looking at her paws feeling embarrassed.

Amberrose the name brought back a whole series of memories he didn’t really want. He had been drugged to have kits with Amberrose and while he didn’t hate his children it made for an odd conversation when it came to families. He didn’t blame Joou for doubting him even if he didn’t understand how she could jump to such thoughts. “No Joou, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to snap.” Nuzzling her he regretted his earlier passion in his denial. “I simply missed you to much to even think of such a thing. I’m sorry you couldn’t have known.”

"I'm sorry I shouldn't have brought it up but after awhile doubt started to get me." She whispered to him hiding her head against his chest. "So much has happened and changed. There have been so many trials and I don't know if I did was right."

She was so small and so fragile. He wondered what terrors had eaten away at her to leave his dearest one like this. He rubbed the top of her head with his chin. “Joou it doesn’t matter what choice you picked I know you’ve done well. After all nothing you could do would be wrong to me. You know that.”

Poison their own daughter against him? Adrin felt his heart weep even though his eyes stayed dry. He was glad for that. He didn’t think he could take crying in front of Joou who had already gone through so much. “Yes.” His voice was pained but his words were clear and filled with love. “I would forgive you even then. I would try to speak to our daughter and help unravel the pain and suffering that turns her from me, but I wouldn’t blame you Joou.”

Joou knew what she had done was terrible. It hurt them all but it wasn't something she had meant to do it was just something that happened as she turned cold and bitter. "She does wish to see you and her mate too.. So there is hope. "She gave a little smile at the thought of what it would be like to have them all meet. How would Allu and Adrin get along? How would Ava react? Would the become a better family?

His stomach did a strange flop. His daughter wanted to see him but most likely hated him? It was odd, what would he, could he say to her? Would she yell at him? Blame him? How could he tell her that he thought about Joou and her all the time and worried for them? Sighing he licked Joou’s ear. “It seems so hard to believe that she’s grown already and has a mate. He felt so old and so tired now. Still he knew he would have a number of things to do before he could truly rest.
