Jerem wrapped his arms around his legs, pulling them against his chest. His messenger bag fell to his side, opening a little. A dark-leather sketchbook peeked out, slightly poking him in the side. He watched Kiiro fret for a moment and bit his lip.
"I think the ears and tail are cool. They must be fun to have, when people aren't around to tease you.." He murmured, looking away. Gently, he pulled the sketchbook from his bag and opened it to a blank page. "You must be able to hear really well. I've been watching them--they move a lot. Are there dangerous things in these woods? I don't think I've ever seen anything more dangerous than a deer once in a while."
As he spoke, he casually dug around in the bag, then pulled out a small pencil case. Opening it, he selected a well-worn pencil and began putting lines onto the paper open in his lap. His sketchbook was usually reserved for birds he finds in the trees or fields, but.... An exception was allowed every now and then.

Kiiro saw that Jerem had noticed she had been panicking and she said, "If you're wondering why I seem upset it's because of my leg." She rubbed her leg thinking about how long it may take her leg to heal and heard what Jerem said about her ears. "I guess they are really nice to have. My ears are really sensitive to any sound and my tail does help me balance. Especially when I'm running. And as to there being anything dangerous, there are some bobcats, but they are like house pets to me. I think there is even one at my house right now." Kiiro started to get up, but her leg was bothering her. She let out a tiny cry and then sat back down. Frowning at the fact her leg was hurt, Kiiro wondered how she would get home.((I'm soo sorry about not posting on this sad I hope you aren't angry with me...))

Jerem seemed to hear her words only partially, his attention mostly focused on the lines being drawn in the sketchbook. He worked quickly, glancing up discreetly before he would draw more lines.
"So... You have a connection to other cats? Can you talk to them? Or do you just empathize with them?" He asked, pausing in his drawing to look up at Kiiro. His eyes were wide with sincere curiosity and a smile was on his lips. Genuine interest.
Then she tried standing and stumbled again, her leg still not well enough to put weight on. He put the sketchbook aside, leaving the pencil holding his place, and went up onto one knee, kneeling in front of her.
"You need to stop trying to walk on it... You'll hurt yourself more." He bit his lip, then quickly tucked his sketchbook away in his bag, then scooted a little closer to Kiiro. "Here, I'll carry you home."
He moved slowly, cautiously, not wanting to startle her by suddenly picking her up and giving her plenty of time to tell him no.

After hearing Jerem's question she thought about what to tell him. She knew that she had the ability to talk to cats. Talking to cats was only one of the benefits of being part cat. She could transform into a cat, though she didn't know whether she'd ever show Jerem her cat form or not. "I can talk with them. I talk to them more than other people."
Kiiro's tail was twitching as she watched Jerem move closer. When Jerem offered to take her home she replied, "Y-you don't have to. I wouldn't want to be a bother to you." She said, her face blushing softly.

Jerem lifted an eyebrow and smiled, but continued to scoop her into his arms. He was especially careful with her legs, and held her close as he stood.
"It's no problem, really," he said reassuringly.
He was still smiling as he adjusted his hold on the young cat-girl, and turned away from the tree.
"Alright, where to?"

Kiiro's face went a bright shade of pink as Jerem picked her up. "I live up that path right there. It's quite a ways up though..." She replied, pointing at a path marked by two large stones with cats painted on them. Her ears were swiveling, listening to everything.
As she listened to her surroundings she heard a twig snap. Her head turned towards the sound, only to see a small brown rabbit. "Hey little guy." She called, causing the rabbit to look up. It sniffed the air and then turned before slowly hopping away.
Kiiro frowned as the rabbit hopped away, but then returned her focus on Jerem taking her home. "I apologize for getting distracted by the bunny..."

Although it was beginning to be obvious that the trek up the path was taking its toll, Jerem smiled and kept going. He chuckled softly at the bunny and Kiiro's distraction.
"It's not a problem..." he said with a grunt. He readjusted his hold on Kiiro as he kept trudging up the path. "How much further is it?"
He tried his hardest to not sound worn out or exhausted, and kept the smile on his face even though walking uphill was becoming a difficult strain.

Kiiro looked around and then said, "You can turn off there by that big tree with the knot in the trunk. The path beyond that tree leads to my cabin."
Kiiro could see the cabin just through the trees and was most certain that she was making it harder for Jerem to go up the mountain, so she thought that the sooner she was home, the sooner Jerem could rest.
"You can get a drink and something to eat after you take me home if you want. I'm very greatful that you're helping me so it's the least I can do to repay you." Kiiro told Jerem as she looked towards her home.

The young man could see the cabin just up the mountain, through some trees. He did as he was instructed, turning by the big tree with the knot in the trunk. Just a few more steps, and they were at the cabin. He was lowering her onto her feet, gently, by the front door.
"How's your leg? Feeling any better?" He asked.
As they stood there, he didn't let her go completely, allowing her to lean against him for support. And since they weren't walking uphill anymore, he was able to fully catch his breath. He moved his messenger bag so it wouldn't be poking into the cat-girl's side while she leaned against him.
Jerem took a moment to look at the outside of the house, the area around it. It was removed from everything, all populated pathways up the mountain or anywhere hikers could possibly traverse. People probably stumbled upon it, but by the looks, no one stuck around. Kiiro probably spooked them off.
"So, you live here by yourself?" He asked, breaking the short silence that occupied the time he took to look around.

When Kiiro's feet were on the ground she wanted to go straight into the cabin. However, she knew if she moved too fast she might hurt her leg again. She sighed at that fact, but heard Jerem and replied, "My leg feels a bit better. If I rest then it should be fine." She smiled at him softly as she leaned against Jerem for support.
She noticed that Jerem was looking around at the area surrounding her cabin. And when she heard Jerem ask if she lived alone she started staring at a tree and said, "I do. I thought I told you, but maybe I didn't.... I used to live with my mother, though as you can see she's not here anymore......." Kiiro was still staring at the tree trying not to let tears fall and her ears flattened against her head, before she let out a shaky sigh.

"Oh.. I'm sorry.." Jerem murmured. He gave Kiiro a reassuring squeeze as he helped her inside. He glanced at the tree she'd been staring at before closing the door.
Now inside, he looked around curiously, though still helped Kiiro go wherever she wanted. He wanted to move her to a chair or her bed or something, to let her rest her leg, but he didn't know the layout of her cabin. He was forced to wait on her lead, for her to guide him where to take her.
"So, if you're alone up here--I don't imagine you travel into the city often--how do you get supplies? Things like food, water, clothing?"
He felt a little bad after asking, but her lifestyle intrigued him immensely, leaving him hopelessly thirsty for answers.

"It's not your fault." Kiiro replied. She noticed Jerem looking around her small, shabby little home. "I'm sorry it's not much..."
Kiiro tried pulling away from Jerem to walk to a little wooden chair, but stopped when she realized that she'd not be able to put weight on her leg.
After hearing what Jerem asked Kiiro replied with, "No, I don't normally go anywhere... I have my clothes and my mother's old clothes if I need them. As for food and water... I have means of getting those, but you'd not believe me." Kiiro looked at Jerem, wondering if he would ask how she got everything she needed to survive. She could just up and show Jerem that she could turn into a cat. Though she didn't know quite how he would handle that fact.

He wasn't bothered by how small the place was. It was comforting. Everything was obviously familiar to the girl, and it brought a smile to Jerem's face. He helped her walk over to a wooden chair, easing her down onto it.
"Oh, c'mon. Try me," he laughed, crossing his arms over his chest.
At this point, Jerem really believed that there was nothing this girl could say or do that would put him in a state of disbelief. She had ears and a tail, after all. If he was able to be even sort of 'okay' with that, surely however she got food would not leave him terribly surprised.
"My guess is you do some form of hunting. I know there's plenty of wild animals out here-- squirrels, deer, wild fowl," he began saying, hypothesizing her food-gathering methods, "-- and there's also wild-growing berries. I know some of those are edible, I've eaten some myself. So, hm... Do you use traps? Or a weapon to catch meat?"
He looked over at Kiiro, one finger resting on his chin in a thoughtful pose.

Kiiro was thinking long and hard whether to expose her cat form, but how else would she explain how she got enough food and water. Yes, it was true that there were wild fowl, squirrels and other things that she could eat as well as the berries. Though, She had no idea how to tell or instead show Jerem the way she got her food. "I don't hunt the way you think. I can't use traps because they're cruel and the animals may not die right away." She said, then added, "I guess I can show you how I get food. I just don't know how exactly you'll react to how I get my food."
Kiiro was about to show Jerem her cat form when she heard something coming into the room. She looked to where she heard the sound and saw a small female bobcat come into the room with her two tiny cubs. They padded over to Kiiro and then noticed Jerem. The cubs hid behind their mother and the mother bobcat stood her ground against Jerem.
Kiiro noticed the bobcats and said, "He won't hurt you. He's a really nice person." The bobcat mother looked at Jerem and nodded at him, just before the cubs walked over to him.

He'll admit, he was excited to see how Kiiro hunted. It didn't surprise him when she said she didn't like traps, that was obvious, given the situation she was in. He wasn't a fan of traps, either, but he also didn't hunt. With bated breath, he waited for her to show him the answer to his question, only to let it out slowly when the bobcat entered the room. His eyes widened, muscles tightened, and a slight tremor entered his right hand. A feeling of awe entered his chest, but left him quite still.
Kiiro said he was okay, and the bobcat mother apparently decided he could be partly trusted. The cubs bounced over to him in their kitten-waddle, and he slowly lowered himself into a squat, hand extended. It trembled as he waited for the cubs to sniff it, to deem him not a threat. Gently, very gently, he rubbed the tips of his fingers along the cubs head and shoulders, stroking them. Then he looked up at Kiiro, the curiosity of her hunting method somewhat lost, replaced by something else.
"Can... Can you ask them if I could draw them?" He asked quietly, a smile. "I don't want them to pose, though... I just want to draw them. Acting natural..."
His smile grew larger, a sense of fondness entering it.
"...With you."
