"Yep. Now hang on thirty seconds while I go get my foxfires, because I refuse to be the only person in this conversation without fluff therapy." Jordan got up and went back around the row of tanks to pick Kiwi and Mango out of theirs.
He returned with two brightly colored balls of fluff tucked into his arms. "Don't chase the party cat, you vicious little battle machines you," he told them, and sat back down to scritch the doglike creatures behind the ears.

The party cat just peered with wide sockets, the electric blue glow that passed for eyes gleaming at the little foxfires. It murred, a rattling in its little frail bones. Grinning at the foxfires in Jordan's air, Clerise just laughed. "If it's any consolation, you know, I haven't told anyone else?"

"Yeaaah, just be careful, please," Jordan said, smiling wryly. "My life's much easier if my guys aren't cranky. Well, crankier than usual, anyway." He ruffled Mango's ears. The foxfire rolled over and presented its belly for rubs; Jordan obliged.

"Your guys, huh?" Clerise tapped her chin. "Well, I don't know Handsome well, but I guess you're the logical choice for taking the lead."
She grinned. "Yeah, yeah. Trust me when I say Clarice needed the pick me up. She needed a long string of pick me ups, and then a nap, and then some food."

"I'm not sure if I should be flattered or offended on their behalf." Jordan grinned back. "I'd be all right with either of them saying the same, anyway."
He mediated a brief dispute between Kiwi and Mango as to which of them had primary possession of the lap. "She's got a lot to worry about," he said.

"Doesn't need to be either. Facttt of reality." Clerise reached out to fluff a foxfire, beeping its nose. It licked her finger excitedly, wiggling in Jordan's lap.
"She has a lot to worry about and not a lot to worry about her," Clerise replied slowly, lips turned downwards. "I found her in a corner, working her a** off in a near delirious state." She tsked. "And now she's leaving." The unspoken follow up: who's going to take care of her now?

"Point conceded." Jordan laughed quietly.
"Seriously? Nobody had shooed her off to bed?" He frowned. "Damn. Do you know who's going with her?"

"Killzone left a sticky note."
She shrugged. "I dragged her to bed." A soft sort of smile touched her lips, fleeting before it curled into something more smug. "She tried to sleep against the wall, with me in between, in the Canteen." She raised a brow at Jordan. "Yeah, that tired."
"I think she was touched in the head like I kinda was for a while. It was pretty shitty, I dunno, I was just. Uh. Kind of a b***h for a week and hated everything in my life, and hated everyone being happy. Not good for anyone. And now she's going off to spooky spooky haunt haunt land, and who ********' knows what's gonna go on there."
The redhead threw her arms up in exasperated disgust. "Bluh. I don't like it, no siree. Both her and Reine."

"That tired, huh." Jordan looked thoughtful. "It's a good thing she's got you looking out for her. That doesn't happen often, does it?"
His frown deepened. "Her and Reine? Yeah, no, I don't like that either. Mm. She did say that we could bring the minis over for training if we could get golem time. Wonder how hard it'd be to get in contact."

"I am the worst caretaker," she joked, tossing the party cat into the air and catching him, as if he were a tiny trapeze artist, content to move the topic away.
He looked as though he was used to it.
"Yeahhhh. I've never been in a golem for long-term stuff. What's it like?"

"Nah, you did get her off to sleep," Jordan replied, smiling a little. "That alone qualifies as better than worst."
He shook his head. "Never been long-term myself, but being in a golem is really damn weird. Every time except one, the golem's been female, and let me tell you, that is bizarre." He paused. "Uh. No offense intended."

She beamed, tucking the compliment away in a portion of her mind.
"Hahahah! None taken." She mused, for a moment. "I made up my mind. A while ago, when it came up with Clarice. If I ever get a dude golem, I am sticking my bits in everything I can muster."
Clerise nodded gravely. "Everything."

"Actually," Jordan said sourly, "that was one of the warnings Clarice gave us. Apparently some of them can be - er - really weird." He grimaced. "I really don't have much interest in finding out what she meant by that."
You're such a liar, Ferros cackled.
Oh, shut up. You're the one who didn't have sex organs in the first place.
