As the two girls continued to go on and on about how much food they had, they both watched the wurmple inch closer and closer out of the corner of their eyes. They couldn’t help but notice that something had been taken out of him, he had lost his fire. It was clear that his rage was replaced by uncertainty and, quite possibly, a bit of hunger.
Looking at the wurmple, Honey replied, “Well, we share all the time, with friends, or new people that we meet. Though, if it was a new person that had done something mean to use, they would have to apologize first, and mean it.”
Nodding in agreement, Lilly added, “Yeah, they would definitely need to mean it.”
“Be sincere.”
“Yes, sincere.”
“We would know whether they meant it or not.”
“It is fun to share with your friends, and we make new friends all the time, but they need to be friendly, or at least try their best to be.”

Once his hasty ego-driven rage had begun to subside, more subtle information found its way more easily into Kenley's conscious. Despite being quick to ruffle the feathers of as well, the two girls didn't really seem like they wanted to pose a threat at all. Sure, they had been purposefully taunting him, or at least the one was... but he could recognize that sort of behavior as being normal, a reflexive defense mechanism. Sure, he didn't like it, but it didn't mean that she posed more of a threat than injuring pride.
No, that didn't necessarily mean he liked either of them, but he was starting to see them as more than simply being trespassers. Kenley didn't really like anyone, a stance he was adamant at sticking with, but... they were first to try to extend a friendly hand. Hesitantly. He'd give them props for that, for he could admit that it was more than he would have offered.
The wurmple cleared his throat, though from the insect it didn't really make much of a sound, <<Perhaps I was a bit too... hasty in my assumptions. I probably should have asked first, before coming to my own conclusions. In my defense, people often lie when asked that sort of thing, though.>>
Glancing downward once more, he supposed that wasn't much of an apology as it was an explanation, which was not what the two of them had requested. However, the way they used the term 'friend' so quickly, it made him feel uncomfortable. Maybe it was because he'd never called anyone that, nor had been called that in return. He kind of hoped they didn't label him in such a manner... and yet...
He huffed, shaking his head and reorienting himself, <<Anyway, um... well... I suppose I owe you an apology for that. You're just sticking around to have lunch?>> He wanted to make sure they weren't planning some permanent residence. Conflicted? Yes. Overly-cautious? Of course.

Lilly couldn’t help but quip, “You know what happens when people assume?”
“Lilly! Don’t be rude!”
“It was just a joke.”
“But still!”
“Ok, fine.” Lilly responded before taking a bite of food, chewing, then swallowing, and finally turning her attention back to the wurmple. “Are you worried we plan on moving in here?”
“We live in a house north of here,” Honey added, before Kenley had a chance to reply.
Whispering to Honey, Lilly added, “Was that an apology?”
“It didn’t really sound like one; it sounded like he was just telling us he owes us one, but not actually giving it…”

Kenley was a bit taken aback by Lilly's quick retort, and in retaliation offered one of his own without properly considering his tone of voice, <<You know that some people have to assume things to survive?>> Especially as a bug type, the punching bag of the pokémon universe... Truthfully, he didn't know what sort of thing that the Lilligant had been referring to, but he hated to admit that he didn't know something that someone else did, not unless he had to be psychic to know of it. Once the girl was reprimanded by Honey, though, that gave enough breathing room to consider it a bit more. Trying to be friendly was hard... <<I don't know what they say about it, though. Whoever 'they' is.>>
However, the straightforwardness of Lilly's questions finally seemed to come at a good time. Kenley was kind of relieved she was able to catch on to the reasons why he had been asking if they were merely sticking around for lunch. Honey's follow-up additive furthered some of that relief, though there was still quite a bit of anxiety left in reserve. <<That's one of the worries, yes...>> he confirmed, <<A camping trip might also prove bothersome. But you... you don't seem to have any sort of camping gear with you, aside from that picnic basket.>> At least he was capable of reasoning some of this out on his own. Speaking of that picnic basket... were they ever packing it away. Wasn't it rude to talk to someone while eating like that? Like speaking with a mouth full of food?
He seemed confused why they were debating amongst themselves as to whether he gave an apology or not. Of course he hadn't yet, they wanted a sincere one, right? Well he had to be sure he was capable of it, otherwise he'd be lying. Despite the fact that most of his behavior was atrocious, he was above lying; he didn't have to resort to tactics of treachery! <<You said I had to mean my words when I apologized. I'm working up to that, that's why I'm giving the questions,>> the wurmple explained. Patience would probably have been more difficult to wrestle if it wasn't for the fact that remaining civil might diminish malnutrition.
