The softest of snorts came from the Artisan, an undignified response to the word dearest. It was almost a bit of a joke, and seemed weird hearing him ask her a question ending in such a word. But she would let it slide, she'd find something just as silly to tease him with - it was kind of a thing they've always done. Regardless.
Lifting one of her pale hands, she felt the soft organic petals, eyes looking up at the ring of flowers that floating over her head, (for even when sitting his point of vision was much higher than hers,) letting a soft sigh exhale from her mouth.
"Yes. A little novice here and there with the knots, but it's not the worth of the item, it's the time put in it." She stated, looking over the loops and knots a that worked in to it. It would stay for a while longer than the flowers would last, but the one she had offered him would stay even longer. A lasting gift for someone so dear to him.
"As long as it comes with nice words, and maybe a soft smile, I think it will be very welcomed. Even if you are only cousins, family bonds are stronger than anything, I'm sure even Tseng would feel that way, you all need each other." She hoped for the best.

"That is not a very ladylike sound," said Mengyao, in a mock imperious tone of voice. "A lady should always carry herself with the utmost grandeur and poise..."
His lips twitched, Mengyao fighting back a smile, but he wasn't very successful. Lifen lifted her hand, her own fingers touching the flowers and Mengyao smiled down at her, tilting his head to examine the little flower chain.
"Well, no one's perfect," he said lightly, and this time he allowed the smile, lowering the flowers back into his lap. He smoothed his hand over them and then reached over for a sheet of paper on the rickety, haphazard little table beside his cot, tucking the flowers into it.
His fingers hesitated only a moment before starting again.

"I'm sorry your lordliness, it seemed like a good enough answer ~" She sing songed at him from his shoulder, showing her defiance in being all prim and proper, kind of tilting her head a little away from the fabric to look up at him. Watching his lips kind of quiver, before allowing a smile, make her smile in response, trying not to giggle at him, allowing a small snicker find it's way through, before she quickly put a free hand on her mouth, a guilty look appeared over her face before she started laughing again - amused by her slip up.
"I'm going to remember you said that tho." She murmured from between her fingers, both in response to his statement about no one being perfect and the one about him needing her and his cousin around. She intended to stick around as much as she could around him. Even she could see he was going to need her around, whether he liked it or not.
Cocking her head to her side, she softly tugged at the white streaks in her hair a little, a knee-jerk reaction, she grinned a little. "Good. I intend to stick around as long as I can."

This time it was Mengyao who snorted, rolling his eyes. He could not, however, stifle the laugh that escaped his throat, matching Lifen's, until they were both sitting there being quite amused with themselves.
"Be sure you do," he replied, with as much dignity as he could muster - which wasn't much, considering the circumstances. But he smiled benignly, tucked a corner of the paper into another, and then folded it until he had wrapped up the flower chain in a nice, neat little paper box. He leaned over and set it on the bedside table, reaching for his fan.
"Good," said Mengyao, and smirked down at Lifen, the feathers of his fan against his cheek. "Because I intend to stick around for as long as I can as well. And life would be no fun without my nearest and dearest friend, after all."

"Mmn," was all she could say in response to him, a sort of wordless agreement as he started shifting around.
As he leaned forward, Lifen found herself sliding a little, she was forced to sit up straight again, lifting herself up and settling again on the bed, before looking up to Mengyao, her eyebrows raising a bit as she saw him pull out his fan. Taking the initiative, she leaned over and grabbed it from his hands, fanning herself with the feathery accessory, before deciding to probe her friend about his recent work-life.
"Well, Mengyao." She started, closing her eyes as she fanned herself, hair softly dancing with every beat. "What kind of adventures have you been getting in to since we arrived here?" She asked, curiously. She wasn't exactly sure if she was going to tell him about the minipet incident. . . she leaned the fan against her face, mouth pressed against the feathers.

She shifted as he did, moving away so that he was able to move, and Mengyao idly twirled the fan in his hand, feeling the gentle breeze drifting towards his face. It was not that he was always hot; the simple gesture had long since become a habit for him - an almost constant reminder of...something.
...a reminder that was no longer in his hand, since it was slipped abruptly from his fingers. Mengyao blinked at the space where it had been, momentarily confused before he turned his head, slanting a gaze towards Lifen.
"Define adventures," he said lightly, arching a brow, lips quirking upwards in a faint smirk. Lowering his now empty hand, he absently twisted the sleeve of his clothing, contemplating the question.
"Besides making Yuzhi cry, I came across a member of the former War clan," said Mengyao thoughtfully, and his eyes flickered back to Lifen, eyeing his fan. "He was...well, more interesting than I thought he would be. Surprisingly intelligent, and a bit...curious."
He reached out, tugging on one of the feathers. "And what about you? Gotten into any fun adventures?"

"You know, adventures." she offered up again, eyebrows raising to express her statement, since her mouthw as behind the feathery fan. "I think everything we do nowadays is pretty much adventury." It was true, this was the first conversation she had that didn't conclude some kind of picking things up or minipets in places.
Listening to him, she nodded softly, idly fanning herself with his own fan, feeling that this was probably what made it so awesome. The constant breeze was kind of nice. As he finished, he asked her how she was getting in to herself, and her gaze faltered, looking to the side before returning to him. She wasn't going get away with not telling him forever.
"Well, first I met a famine-clansman. He was pretty sweet, and I helped him with his gathering. We found another rock." She offered up first, her voice falling flat at the rock. She was . . . a magnet to them. Coughing lightly she kept a straight face as she continued. "And, so I went to the school grounds to find some supplies for the clans building and met two young students, they seemed really nice." She sucked at meeting women, it seemed. "One had this little minipet named Masaru that somehow found it's way in my dress. It was very uncomfortable."
That was close, right?

She had taken his fan, and now Mengyao was not quite certain what to do with his hands. He settled for idly tugging at the fabric of his sleeves, but for the most part he felt a little out of sorts without his trademark object.
Though, since it was Lifen, he couldn't quite take it back, and he did not mind if it was her, so he said nothing.
"A Famine-clansman?" Mengyao repeated, lifting his brows curiously as he tilted his head, giving Lifen a curious sort of glance. After a moment an amused smirk quirked his lips upwards. "Yes, well, rocks do seem to be attached to you..."
He trailed off, staring at her with a rather blank expression.
"...it got into your dress?"

"Indeed, with a peculiar name, Kiwi." She murmured about the clansman, whom she had helped pick up items with. She was attempting to downplay the secondary statement, but it was obviously not working, as he was looking her a little dumbfounded -- so that was going through his head.
Pulling the fan up a little further to hide the flush that was showing up on her face as he stared, she couldn't help by chuckle just softly, before rolling mis-matched eyes. "Yes, I didn't expect it and it settled in my bust, if you must ask." She stated, as a-matter-of-fact, before scrinching her face up a bit. "It was kind of silly, but I spent most of the day with a critter in my bosom." She stated, feeling a little sheepish with explaining it. But the amount of rediculousness that she started laughing again.

"Kiwi...is a very odd name indeed," Mengyao mused, brushing a few strands of stray hair away from his face. The clips he had tied so neatly back were starting to come undone, irritating him, and he lifted his hands, trying to get the dark strands back into place.
"...it settled in my bust - "
He yanked too hard on a piece of hair.
"...your...what - "
Mengyao, completely missing the rest of what Lifen said, stared blankly at her, half hidden behind his fan, laughter clearly audible. "It went into your..."
He floundered a bit, his eyes dropping. She did have a rather large...eyes up, eyes up, she's your childhood friend, how could you even think of -
Clearing his throat and coughing, Mengyao straightened his robes, finished pinning back his hair and reached out towards the fan, pulling it a bit lower so he could see Lifen's red cheeks.
"That's not where minipets are supposed to go, you know," he said, stifling a smile, though it was clearly obvious.

His immediate reaction made the artisan's eyebrows raise amusedly, reaching out with her free hand to pat the hand that was tugging his own hair, holding it for a moment before letting go, she finally decided to allow him to take his fan back as he pulled it down, - he seemed. . . pertrubed?
Clearing her throat a little, she couldn't help but redden more, diverting her eyes, the smile showing on her face still. "Well. Yes. I would assume that it was not a place for minipets, but I couldn't really do much else. It seemed unlady-like, and it wasn't doing much harm." She stated non-chalauntly, a sly smile on her face. She picked up on the discomfort, but it was all the truth - Masaru was easier there than at her feet, chittering and bothering the pom and scareon.
"It wasn't the boys, so I wasn't harmed, much."

His cheeks may or may not have been a little red, but it was not as if Mengyao were intentionally looking at...well, Lifen's...
At any rate, she had allowed him to take his fan back, her pale hand closing around his briefly before letting go. Mengyao lifted his fan, grateful for the fact that he could use it as a small distraction. Lifen's face was red as well, and he cleared his throat a little awkwardly.
This is Lifen. Quit acting like a silly schoolboy playing a prank.
Coughing slightly, Mengyao's face slid into the calm, relaxed one he normally wore, his lips quirking as though trying to hold back a smile. "So you just left it there, did you?" he asked innocently, but then he pressed his lips together, a flash of irritation crossing his face.
"Yes, well, if it had been one of the students, or one of our own kind...well I do not wish for you to be harmed, as you know."

"I would have been fi~ne," she stated, kind of puffing her cheeks out a bit. They were just a couple of kids, no harm done as far as she was concerned. "It wasn't like he was making a ruckus. It's kind of funny, after all was said and done. Spooked me at most." she stated, obviously about the minipet issue.
Lifen couldn't help but c**k her head a little to the left, watching the fluster show up on his face as he attempted to hide it behind the fan. Taking a feather and pulling it back, she lifted her eyebrows a bit, lidding her eyes slightly skeptically, before grinning.
"Is the mighty Mengyao blushing?" She murmured, curious as to how he was setting off. She rarely saw this side of him, it was kind of a weird treat.

He gave her what might have been a slightly sullen look mixed with incredulousness.
"Fine?" Mengyao repeated, lifting his brows. "You would have been fine with a couple of guys grabbing at your...your..."
He waved a hand at her rather ample front, indicating that he was not about to say the word breasts out loud, his face tinged a palest pink. It was, at this point, a really fortunate thing that no one else was around, considering that Mengyao would never show himself this way to anyone else - except perhaps Yuzhi, even Lan at times.
And he was suddenly very grateful for the fan in front of his face.
Which wasn't there much longer, since Lifen was pulling back the feathers with an amused smile on her pale face.
"I am not," said Mengyao, with as much dignity as he could muster under the circumstances - which wasn't much at all. "blushing. I am merely trying to figure out...what...well, this situation."
Awkward Mengyao was awkward.

"Then you have a sunburn, inside." She teased him lightly. It probably didn't help that they were both affecting each other, emotionally, but . .. it was still a rather amusing situation.
"They didn't grab at my chest, Mengyao." She answered his question, evidentally more comfortable with saying the word, her mouth quirking up in to a smirk. It was rather amusing to see her fair-weathered friend as flustered as he was right now - he usually had two modes; the Mengyao that some saw - herself and Yuzhi mostly . . . and everyone else's Mengyao. This was a third one, and it was different.
"They were actually rather honest about the situation. Obviously I got the minipet out in the end." She continued, before letting go of the feather she was holding, the grin never leaving.
