The fact that someone else didn't get along with their mother very well was a little comforting... But not enough to quell her nerves.
A deafening silence transpired after Roch asked his question. Riyo stared blankly at the desk for a short period of time. "I don't know." She finally said sadly.
"I don't know..." She repeated, shaking her head. "I was so scared the last time I walked into that place. That's why I've avoided going back. I was afraid that some day, I might be in there too." Though she hadn't stated exactly where, it was easy to see wherever it was, the ghoul was terrified of it.

"..." he looked at her for a long moment. "Before you go, give me the address of where you're goin. If you're gone longer than, what, a week? Two? I'll come and break you out, how's that sound?" He didn't seem bothered by the idea of breaking into a strange place at all. "I'll get some help if I need it. But we ain't leavin' you someplace you don't wanna be."

Riyo couldn't help but laugh a little. "I wish it was that simple." It was sweet of him to say such things. To try and reassure her. But.. "Roch, they have a FEAR suppression field, and a healthy amount of security. Even if you can get in, it'll be much harder to get back out." She had thought about it, obviously.
"I think..." The feline started, her tail tapping against the back of her chair. "If I keep in mind... How much better things will be after I see her, it'll be easier for me to get out of there unscathed." At least, that was what she hoped. "I just... Have to keep it together. It's a game of wits, you see. A terrible game of wits..."

"Yeah, places like that SUCK," he said, frowning. But then he relaxed. "Oh, then you'll be fine," he said, grinning at her. "You can definitely win at a game of wits. But--" he said. "If you really do get stuck, we can call in the entire school or somethin if we gotta. I'm serious. You've been through way too much crap here to get away from dyin' daily with the rest of us from here out."

It felt good to have reassurance. She couldn't lie, even if she knew there was no possible way Roch could know for sure, it was comforting.
She knew now, more than ever, that people cared. It made her want to be better. For both them, and herself.
There was a content smile peeking out as she leaned back in her chair. "Yes, dying on a daily basis is something I don't want to miss." As long as she could be among her friends.
"Uh. Thanks for coming by, I guess." Still not very good at thank yous, it appeared. "I'm... I'm gonna do my best to make it through this." Riyo just hoped her best would be good enough. "I've won many intellectual battles..." The feline started, hopping out of her chair to bend down next to her bed.
Her knees met the floor, and her hand disappeared under the skirt of the mattress as she seemed to search for something. There was a clink when her nails met with something metallic.
Slowly, the ghoul pulled it out and rested the box on her lap. The combination lock was undone, and when the lid was opened... All there were inside was a picture frame and a journal.
It was a lovely picture frame. Probably expensive. As Riyo lifted it out of the box, it seemed to glimmer in the low light. Contained within was a picture of a small family. One little scareling no older than 3 or 4 wearing a dress, sitting on the shoulders of an older man with long, black hair and a goatee as if he was still trying to rebel against formality, and a shorter woman with even shorter blonde hair... Who was bound and determined not to smile or have fun with the other two. In fact, she looked like the cloud to their sunny day in her grey, skimpy business attire.
"But never with her." Because who wanted to get into the mind of an insane woman?

"If you can't win," he said, following her and looking at the picture for a moment, "then cheat. This isn't like a class thing, this is your life. You gotta take it in any way you can, right? And it just ain't right keepin' people when they don't wanna be kept, or making them stop somethin they don't wanna stop--well, at least, y'know, as long as it's not hurtin' someone else or somethin," he revised.
"I dunno. I figure you're old enough to make your own decisions--that's why you came to school, right? But you know that already," he said. He felt a little useless at the moment, and it showed by the way he shoved his hands into his pockets. He looked away, frowning slightly as he thought of all the lessons he'd learned in this school. Very, very few of them had come from the classes.
"If you DO get caught. If you want my help, or someone else's, or everyone else's, and can get ahold of a phone, call me, send a text that says SOS, and I'll head out. I'll do my jackin' best to help you. Deal?"

Cheat...?
How did one cheat in a game of wits? An intellectual battle?
Riyo shot him a quizzical look for a moment, almost annoyed that he would suggest something so usel-
Wait.
Cheating. Yes, that was it, wasn't it? The look on her face spread to a wide-eyed realization of just how that might be possible. Perhaps, in years past, such a thing would've been impossible for her... But now...
"I think you have a million seed idea, Roch." Whether he realized it or not. Standing up, the ghoul sat the picture frame on her desk for the first time since she'd arrived at Amityville. "Yeah. I think... For the first time in my life, cheating would be the best thing I could do."
The ghoul stared at the framed image for a moment longer before looking to Roch again, reaching a hand out to pat him on the shoulder. "Should anything happen to me, I'll try my best to do just that."
Ripping a piece of paper in half, Riyo grabbed one of her spare quill pens and scribbled down an address, then folded it in half and held it out to the reaper. It was... An address for an asylum.
"If something happens... You'll know."

He looked at the address. He didn't look that surprised, really. Then he pulled out his phone, typing it into his phone so he would never lose it. "Leave this here," he said, taking the piece of paper and placing it on her desk. "I might not be able to break into an asylum that easily, but breakin' into your room won't take much work at all. So if people come lookin' for you, they'll know where to go. Just... coverin' your a**, y'know?"
Then he gave her a slight grin. "And I'll let you start plottin' out how to cheat in a game of wits. You need anything, you got my number," he said, heading for the door.

The fact that he was so confident about breaking into her room didn't really comfort Riyo. Even if it was meant as a sweet sentiment, it seemed to creep her out more than anything. "Yeah... Heh. Sure."
Glancing at the eyephone that had been turned off on her desk, the ghoul nervously smiled. "I'll get right to that." But she was fairly sure she already knew how she was going to cheat. Oh yes she did. "I'll see you later."
She resisted the urge to add 'hopefully' to the end of her sentence.
