"I should get a trim. I'm getting kind of shaggy," Jordan said, and flicked hair out of his face. "Harrison's getting a little scruffy too. Wonder how grouchy he'd get if I said so." He smirked.

"Most of 'em, anyway," he said more seriously. "We can't assume they were all on the islands when the islands went up. But they're not going to be a serious threat again for a good long time." A certain amount of vindictive satisfaction had crept into his voice.

"No, I think I'll keep it short," Jordan answered. His hand went up to touch the hair at the nape of his neck where the ponytail had been. "It was kind of awkward for fighting. It was - when I was, like, 11, I was growing my hair out, mostly just because I could, and Dad told me to get a haircut, I looked like a hippie." He laughed a little. "I was 11. Of course I refused, and then it turned into kind of a joke. And then after Dad passed, I just kind of didn't have the heart to cut it, so it got super long, and after a while it was kind of a pride thing. But now that it's gone - " He shrugged and smiled, a little sheepishly. "This way I don't have to worry about setting it on fire myself."

They hadn't had a chance to hang out recently; of course she didn't know who Harrison was. Jordan grinned, a little smugly. "He's a friend of mine." He wasn't going to say anything more in a crowded canteen, but even if they were keeping it quiet, Jordan trusted Maddie to not spread it around; and he wanted her to know, he realized, just as he'd want to know when she found someone.

He looked skeptically at the MRE. "You can have the noodle thing, I just grabbed it without looking. Cookie's about the only part I like out of this one."

"Can't wait for the cafeteria to be open again," Jordan agreed with a grimace.

As Maddie put her fork down and covered her eyes, he put the still-wrapped cookie back on the table and scooted his chair over so he could put a comforting hand on her shoulder. "It was horrible," he said quietly. "We got them, though. Most of 'em, anyway. And we're getting the island cleared off bit by bit. It'll be safer again soon."

"Yeah." Jordan smiled. "Yeah, I'll go with you. Can't be too far off from getting the dorms cleared, as much as everyone's been plugging away at killing little grey freaks." He stood and gathered up the remains of his mostly-untouched lunch. "I ought to call someone for Moon duty or I'm going to get the lecture about going off without defense again. Anyone you want to grab?"

"Sounds like a plan," Jordan said, and laughed. "Huh, I wonder if Petra's busy. I haven't seen her around much; must be sleeping on opposing shifts." He pocketed the cookie and dumped the rest of the trash into the garbage can. "Let's go get some exercise."

He flipped his phone open and looked through the contact list thoughtfully; who could he tap for defense who he knew wasn't asleep? Marcus might be up for it; if not, he could try someone else.

Madison had already summoned Kouki, the four swords still sheathed at her hips as she did a few stretches. Her muscles twinged slightly from relative inactivity, but she was certain the exercise would do her good. "Hey," she said, nodding at Marcus with a smile. "Nobody else quite yet. If we run into trouble, we can always use the talkies, right?"

She bent to touch her toes, did a lunge, then straightened. "Ready when you guys are."
