Apple Blossom offered the mare a sympathetic smile, "Many children are. I'm sure he loved you all the more for it and he'll be very happy to see you again." She trotted ahead a few steps are they approached the edge of the orchard so she could gather a few apples for the weary traveler.

Lian chuckled. "Oh, I'm not sure about loving me more for my... youthful exuberance. He sort of... ended up with me. I was abandoned by my mother as a basket, and never knew anything about my father. He found me right when I was ready to pop and his own sense of responsibility kept me around. Well, until he started to care about me. Again, not something he'd admit."

"I imagine he acknowledges it in his own way," Apple Blossom said softly feeling her heart twist for this mare who seemed so strong even with the challenges already placed before her. "Here," she added dropping a little pile of apples she had gathered down by the nearby stream bed. "Fresh fruit, cool water, and lovely weather for resting."

Lian smiled gratefully. "Thank you. They look very tempting. You'll be sharing them with me, I hope? I'm rather enjoying your company..." It was always nice when she found the friendly ones. Though experience had already taught her that friendliness was sometimes a front.

"Oh, it's no trouble at all," she chirped cheerfully. "I just love taking care of...well, anyone and everyone. You see my little ones moved out some time ago, I haven't really seen for a while...I really do miss them. But at least I have plenty of guests to my orchard here that I can take care of. That is what I tend to excel at."

Apple Blossom smiled, "Truly it is no trouble at all. Maybe some time you can tell me about your journeys? I don't really get out much and...I'm always interested in what happens beyond these woods. Not today, of course, for today you rest. But sometime, maybe..." she drifted off not wanting to pester the mare.

Lian's expression darkened and she looked away. "I... don't think you would enjoy my stories," she murmured.
Hidden in the trees, behind a bunch of leaves, a tiny silver bird watched curiously.
