Once Yin took the tea from her, Xiu immediately found somewhere to settle down, choosing to sit on the ground with her back up against the couch. She pulled her legs in against her chest, and closed her eyes, retreating to her dark little bubble. Then she waited.

It clearly didn't take long for the tea to take effect. One minute, Xiu was engulfed in complete darkness, and the next, the winding path that would lead to the boil's dream appeared beneath her feet. She traveled down the path without hesitation, though her mouth was set in a grim line. Just what would she find there, she wondered? Yin had told her that he was happy in his dreams, but that he also did bad things to those he cared for. Just in case, she braced herself to walk into a dream depicting the latter.

Fortunately, as she setting and people began to form around her, Xiu found that everything seemed to be at peace so far. They were in...the woods? And there were four people, three ghouls who were unfamiliar and, of course, Yin himself.

She moved closer then, but took care to keep quiet. Perhaps it would be best if she were to simply stand back and see what happened next? Or if she was spotted, then...well, that was fine too. In either case, she wanted to get to the bottom of this dream and do what she could to help fix it.

He had just made it to the edge of the clearing when Miss Jiā Tíng ran up, eyes sparkling in excitement. "I am going with you!" she announced, ready to charge into the forest.

Yin glanced up at her mothers' to ask for the permission that she had not. "May I take Miss Jiā Tíng with me?" When Mistress Ah-Lam nodded he crouched down next to the small ghoul, now looking up at her. "In the forest you will need to be very quiet," he informed her. "Please just stay back and watch this time, maybe next time you can hunt as well." She deflated slightly but still looked happy enough as she began to follow him deeper into the trees.

After some time he began to pick up a trail and he motioned for her to be even quieter as the tracks became fresher. There was a slight rustling in the underbrush and he crept closer, crouching down next to the bush. His daily Tai Chi practicing now came to use by giving him balance as he waited and then struck, arms flashing out faster than any normal humanoid's could, revealing the mantis background. He grinned as he pulled the creature out, still squirming. "It is still alive if you wish to do the honors."

Whether or not it was because he been in Miss Xiu-Ying's room with her, or perhaps because she was there with him even now (though he did not know it) his subconscious had chosen for this particular hunt to use one of her own minipets as his prey, though in this state the small form meant nothing to him.

So far so good. From what Xiu could see, Yin's dream had yet to conjure up any of the "bad things" that he had told her about. In fact, everything seemed rather innocent so far. The ghouls, the picnic...and the very sight of Yin and the little ghoul together was enough to bring a small smile to the ghoul's lips.

Or it would have smiled, at least, had she not caught herself. Hold it. Don't forget why you're here--this dream looks happy enough for now, but... But from what she had been told, it wouldn't last. Maybe the dream Yin would have no regrets about what he did in here, but the real one was clearly feeling a lot of guilt. The thought actually made her a little nervous--just what exactly did the dream Yin do in here to prompt such guilt?

She thanked Jack for her small figure as she ducked behind trees, her tail tucked in tightly to her body and hopefully out of view. She always waited until the two figures were a fair distance away before she darted behind the next tree, but after a while, the pair suddenly stopped walking. Curiously, Xiu poked her head out from behind the tree, her gaze falling on Yin. What were they--

Her eyes grew round, a chill running through her spine. That was...! For a moment, it seemed as if she had forgotten that this was just a dream--that that wasn't really her mini--but that brief second was all that was needed for her to act on her instincts.

"Stop, let him go!" The yell left the ghoul's lips before she could stop it, her hands flying over her mouth a second too late. There was a small pause, and then she sighed, stepping out from behind the cover of her tree. "I ask that you please put him down, Yin Cang." Would he recognize her, she wondered?

The reaction was instantaneous. Without dropping his prey Yin spun to face in the intruder and stepped so that Miss Jia Ting was behind him. He transitioned the creature to one hand, holding it firmly by the scruff of its neck, nails digging in slightly and the animal was making pained and panicked noises. Confusion was clear on his face as he looked at the ghoul, clearly hesitating.

So it was Miss Jia Ting who responded to her, peering out from behind the protective shield of her mother's chosen, voice slightly. "Who is that ghoul Yin Cang? How does she know your name?"

"I..I do not know. Miss, how do you know my name?" He was polite, this was a ghoul after all. But on the other hand...something about her just seemed off. Perhaps...maybe she was an orchid mantis? That might explain her features, and her clothes were a bit odd but they fit oddly enough. Still, he did not recognize her, and it was possible that she was a threat. "And why should I release my prey? It is to feed my chosen."

Slowly, Xiu moved to hold her hands up in front of her, trying to reassure the pair that she wasn't a threat. Despite knowing that the Arashi in front of her was not real, the baku stiffened at the noises the poor feline was making. Don't look at him, she urged herself silently, trying to keep her gaze focused on Yin's face, Just do what you came here to do.

"I apologize for startling you," She kept her voice soft, clasping her hands in front of her and bowing as she tried to organize how to answer the boil's questions, "As to how I know your name, I...I've met you before in the passing. Perhaps you do not remember?"

She hoped that he wouldn't ask her from where. Xiu did her best to move the topic away from that, focusing on his second question. Taking a deep breath, she gestured towards the captured mini. "He's...he's my pet. I came out here in search of him--he was spooked this morning and went running out--when I stumbled upon you two. If I may...?"

Xiu stretched her hands out for the melonkit, but she did not move from where she stood. More than anything, she was worried about how this dream Yin would react if she got to close to either him or the little ghoul.

Yin did not remember, though in an odd way she looked familiar. He felt confused and uncertain, and that just kept him on edge, fearful for Miss Jia Ting more than anything. "He is your pet?" he asked uncertainly. Pets were not completely unheard of, but they were rare. Who would willingly keep such a temptation around them?

"If it is her pet I guess we have to give him to her," the small ghoul stated matter-of-factly, stepping over to the side a bit. He glanced between the ghoul and the minipet and lowered it to the ground to release it. Terrified the creature shot off into the woods, the dream mini not recognizing the ghoul just as Yin did not, and the melonkit had clearly been terrified.

Yin's face froze as it escaped and then quickly moved in front of Miss Jia Ting again, face set and determined. The mini had ran off, which a pet should not do. She had lied. "Who are you really," he demanded to know, fear for his charge overwhelming the respect he would typically show a ghoul. Quietly he murmured to the young ghoul behind him. "If I tell you to run go straight to your mothers please Miss Jia Ting."

Xiu didn't seem surprised when the mini fled, but the look on her face was one of pure relief. If nothing else, at least she had saved Arashi from...well, whatever fate would have fallen upon him. Unfortunately, it seemed that by helping him, she had inevitably turned suspicion onto herself. Slowly, she lifted her hands and held them up in front of herself again.

"My name is Xiu-Ying," She paused then, her gaze sweeping over Yin's expression for any signs of recognition. After a moment passed, she continued, "I don't mean either of you harm--I'd just like to speak to you." She didn't expect it to be so easy though, judging off the look he was giving her alone. It was times like this that the baku was glad for her generally small and unthreatening appearance--had she been more aggressive looking, she wasn't sure that Yin Cang would have even tried hearing her out about letting Arashi go.

Without moving from where she stood, she gestured towards the little ghoul. "If it makes you more comfortable, I will wait until you escort the young miss back to her...mothers?" There was a inquisitive tone at the end, but she shook her head. She was hoping that Yin would be less defensive once the ghoul was somewhere safe.

And, of course, it would hopefully make things easier for Xiu herself to get to the bottom of this dream issue.

Miss Xiu-Ying...for some reason that had a familiar ring to it, like he had heard it before. But on the other hand...he could not place her, and there just seemed to be something different about her. One did not trust different. If he was able to return Miss Jia Ting though, then he could concentrate on the ghoul. But why would she want to speak to him? She was not his chosen, and he had one. There was no reason for a strange ghoul to wish to speak to him privately, and he doubted that anything would make him actually comfortable around her.

"She might leave if you let her out of your sight," the ghoul behind him piped up.

"She is right, how would I know that you would stay?" He glanced back the way they had come. "It is not fitting that I should be alone with a ghoul not my chosen. Perhaps you should accompany us?" It was a request, but there was something not a request to it, the suspicion still clearly evident.

Miss Jia Ting was nodding beside him. "Mother would know what to do with her, or she might know who she is!"

"Because I wish to speak to you," she replied patiently, lowering her hands and clasping them together in front of herself, "For that reason, it wouldn't do me any good to flee. However, if you're more comfortable with me following..."

She tried to hide her hesitance from both her voice and her face. It would be one thing to have the little ghoul standing by and listening in on their conversation, but two others as well? Granted that this was a dream, so everyone here was, so to speak, a character created by Yin's mind. Chewing on her bottom lip thoughtfully, Xiu finally sighed.

"...Very well. I will follow at a distance, if that makes you more comfortable?" She began to take a step forward, but paused, her tail giving a thoughtful flick behind her. "Though...if it is not asking too much, I would still like to talk to you privately once we are back, Yin Cang. For propriety's sake, we can have the young miss and her mothers nearby, but there is something that I'd like to speak to you specifically about."
PostPosted: Sat May 19, 2012 8:00 pm

That compromise seemed like a good one, though he still was not certain why he should speak with her. He began to nod but as he did so he noticed something very, very out of place. A tail. Mantodae did not have tails. Certainly not tails with fluffy tufts of fur. "Run," he hissed, slipping into a fighting position and making sure that Miss Jia Ting began to flee, though it took her a startled moment before she was going back the way they had come.

"Who are you," he demanded to know, "please answer Miss. I know you are not from around here." His voice was tight, but with stress and confusion more than anger. "What could you possibly want with me outsider?" He might have been stalling a bit, Miss Jia Ting would be headed back now, and after she found her way back she would inform her mothers and Miss Ah-Lam would soon be on her way, not that he probably needed any help if this ghoul proved to be much of a threat.

And for the first time in her life, Xiu cursed.

Mentally, mind you, but it was still a curse, one that she had probably picked up from one of her more vocal friends. The baku called herself--and her tail--all kinds of stupid as she watched the little ghoul flee. She didn't give chase--after all, it wasn't the ghoul that Xiu wanted to speak to--but she remained where she was, pink eyes focused on Yin. Sighing, she gave a little shake of her head.

"You're right--I'm not from around here. However, as I said, I don't mean you any harm." She still tried to keep her voice soft and soothing, even if she knew that regaining his trust was a completely lost cause now. The most she could do now was...

...Well, while she had nothing against little Jia Ting and her mothers, it would prove to be quite inconvenient if the trio returned here while she was in the middle of questioning Yin. Figuring that she was already suspicious as is, Xiu said nothing as she turned her back to the boil, trying to hide the sudden glow of her eyes. She concentrated on sending threads of her power throughout the whole dream, trying to determine where needed changing. Once she found the specific part she was looking for--the part where the little ghoul brought her mothers back with her--she shut her eyes.

The little black hole--about the size of a dinner plate--that rotated and rippled in front of Xiu was not very subtle at all. The baku didn't seem to care whether or not Yin saw it, however, as she was focusing deeply on trying to make this work. She had devoured whole dreams before, it was true, but her attempts at devouring certain points of a dream had always failed. However, with her powers having steadily increased over her time at Amityville, she hoped that it would be enough. If she just concentrated on that certain point and drew it towards her, then hopefully it would work.

Sure enough, small blurs of color rushed in from beyond the dream's current visible barrier. Jia Ting fleeing back to her mothers, their venture back out to where Xiu and Yin were--all of these scenes were pulled into the small black hole, and then...nothing. Where the hole once was now floated a small pearl--gray, to signify that what it contained was neither a good dream nor a nightmare. Plucking it from the air, Xiu rolled the object between her fingers before slipping it into her mouth and swallowing.

That was that.

"Yin Cang, what are you doing here?" She turned back to him now, blinking rapidly to get the last traces of her glowing eyes to fade, "Why aren't you at Amityville?"
PostPosted: Sun May 20, 2012 4:49 pm

Miss Jia Ting was safe, but the fact that an outsider had ever crossed their borders, which was quite a ways away, bothered him. The fact that she knew his name? Bothered him. The fact that an outsider knew his name...that somewhat scared him. It made him feel uneasy, and like something was just...wrong. Everything was wrong but he did not know why, or how. It just was.

She was turned away from him, which helped him to, not relax, because he could not at this point, but at least to keep from doing something too rash. If she had her back to him that was almost an open invitation. Then a black disk grew in front of her. Slowly it seemed to spin, though how he could tell that something pitch black was spinning was beyond him, until he noticed that small wisps of color were vanishing into it. Steadily more wisps began to join, and he almost thought that he heard something, but he could not place it. But the colors...they seemed to be coming from their surroundings somehow, though where they were was unaffected.

It terrified him.

Then the colors and the hole condensed into one small pebble sized object and the ghoul plucked it from midair.

And ate it.

He was staring wide-eyed at her, hands still up in front of him but lax as he stared in disbelief as Miss Xiu-Ying turned, eyes seeming to glow for a moment, gone so quickly that he had to be imagining things. She was speaking to him, though he missed what she said at first. Then she asked him a question he could not answer. "A-Am-mi-tea-ville?" he echoed, and then a look of confusion crossed his features. Something seemed familiar about that somehow. "Amityville? Miss...Miss Xiu-Ying?" She seemed more familiar somehow, and he seemed to recall something...a hint of...tea? That made no sense.

His head hurt and he took a small step back. "Who are you? What are you doing here?" He began glancing around but there was no one coming, no one to turn to.

Now here came the hard part: trying to get to the bottom of this issue without waking Yin up. Sometimes all it took was the very mention of a dream to snap someone awake, so she knew that she would have to tread carefully right now.

"Amityville," She repeated, nodding as she kept a careful watch on the boil's expression. Would he soon come to recognize the name? "It's...a school. Haven't you heard of it?" There was a beat of pause, and then she carefully added, "I'm a student there. My friends--Danny and Alex--attend the school as well."

Welp, that was as direct as she was willing to risk right now. When he stepped back, Xiu immediately crouched down, trying to make herself...well, seem smaller and less threatening. It would have been easier if she had just changed into her natural form, but considering how Yin was right now, that would probably alarm him even more than if she remained in her human form.

"I told you," She replied patiently, tilting her head to the side, "My name is Xiu, and I just want to talk to you."
PostPosted: Tue May 22, 2012 6:24 pm

Miss Danny. Alexander. For some reason the names stood out in his mind but...how did he know that 'Danny' was a Miss? What sort of name was Alexander? Though this "Miss Xiu-Ying" sounded odd and dangerous (as strange certainly meant dangerous as well) something about what she was saying made sense on one level or another. "Very well, I shall talk to you," he decided, though he made no move from his rather defensive position, not matter how little she seemed to be a threat. What is it that you wished to speak about?"

Then, a scant moment later he made another query. "Why would I know about a school though? I have learned all that is expected of me." His hands twitched a bit. "I apologize for asking so many questions of you Miss Xiu-Ying." Ordinarily he would not have dared to do so to a ghoul, but for some reason he felt like it would be okay this time.

Pleased that he seemed willing to cooperate, she smoothed out her skirt and sat down, getting comfortable. She waited until he got both of his questions out--and the apology--before speaking, a laugh escaping her lips. Even now, Yin was ever a gentleman, wasn't he? Xiu waved her hand at him, "Please don't apologize. You can ask me whatever you'd like, and I'll do my best to answer your questions." If it would help, why not, right?

"About me bringing up Amityville...would you perhaps be interested in enrolling?" Xiu blurted out the first question that came to mind, and...that was it. After a hesitant pause, she quickly added,
"It's a wonderful place for all types of young people--demons, monsters, undead, ghosts, and reapers--to learn and socialize."

The baku suddenly frowned, her voice growing softer. Truth be told, she was a little worried about how the boil would respond to her next words.
"Of course, as the students live on campus, that would mean leaving this place." Yin had told her that, in his dream, he was happy with his life as it was. Xiu was curious just how defensive he would be if that was threatened a little.
