Dedication wasn't quite the word, that's for sure. You don't just turn your back on the Negaverse, not unless you're planning to jump off a tall tower anytime soon. She couldn't simply turn them down, she couldn't simply say she'd rather stay in Europe. They had no need for her in Europe and as a senshi that meant one thing. She'd left her home with little questions asked, and the whole transition from Greece to America had been a bit too smooth. Suspicious almost. Just how powerful of an organization were they? Power was something Nickeline was more than happy to have though.

Intelligence was certainly something lower on the tier to have, definitely proven by the fact she paid almost no attention in English class. If she had been more interested, perhaps her conversation now would be a little less awkward than it was. She kind of just nodded to him sometimes, that nod woman often gave to men when they simply weren't listening but trying to foreign they were. This was sort of the case because words went though her ears and then got scrambled around in what she thought the word meant in her brain. May as well just say it went in one ear and out the other.

What is she was certainly one of those questions she didn't understand quite right but perhaps it would lead him to his answer anyways. She smiled at him strangely, her hands crossing over the hole in her chest he'd observed earlier. Sometimes when she was bored she poked around, and other times she simply wanted to see what would happen. A strange sight for Remarque probably, Nickeline's hands slipped into the hole and then for a small moment she held out her starseed for the senshi to see before she put it back in delicately. It was a definite look what I can do moment. Starseeds were not something Dark Mirror Senshi did, and it was not even something White Senshi did. It was limited entirely to something youma ate, something Negaverse Soldiers did.

While Remarque didn’t quite stare—oh, no, that wouldn’t have been like him at all—he offered Nickeline a rather interested, slightly perplexed expression. Initially, he was fairly unsure of just what he had seen the girl do; he’d never seen a starseed before, and as such was absolutely ignorant as to what she had just done. He regretted not spending more time with the Ares or Leto or Requiem—or hell, even Benitoite—so that he didn’t stand here, looking like surprised audience member who couldn’t figure out how the magician had pulled the rabbit out of his hat.

He might have known what she had pulled out—or how she had done it—but he knew one thing.

Dark Mirror Senshi didn’t do that, either.

Her lack of words did nothing to clarify the situation to him, however he had had determined that it was less about her having an issue with him and more about her having an issue with the language. Unless she really just had an issue with him and was pretending not to have a grasp of the language—or maybe she didn’t have a grasp of the language and had a problem with him.

The whole thing might have been enough to make his brain hurt if he’d put too much thought into it, but he settled on leaving it at that. “Neat trick,” he concluded, attempting to keep his English simple. It wasn’t that he wouldn’t have liked to ask Nickeline more questions, but without knowing how much of a conversation she could understand from him, he wasn’t entirely sure he was doing anything but wasting his time beyond this point. “You, ah. Gonna take up some English classes while you’re in the states?” he prompted, not yet desperate enough to start making obscure hand gestures to try and translate his words to her.

Even if he never spoke to her again, he was sure that she had at least given him a topic to bring up with Benitoite, though he felt a bit inadequate that he had no manner in which to return information. Not that she seemed to be asking any questions, but—then again, if she was greeting people with ‘Wassup homie’…he could only imagine how much English was dancing through her brain.

The words English and classes rang a bell that Nickeline really didn't like. She'd already learned one language before and learning English had never been on the top of her list while in Greece. Even now, it wasn't near the top of her list. Everyone thought she should, expected her to but sitting down in class sucked. She wasn't studious and she never had any plans to be. She would rather loom in an alley and pick up strange English that she didn't question as strange and have that be the end of it.

"English sucks," was a quick prompt followed by a nod to signify that she was in classes or at least planning on taking them. The fact was was already in an English class at school, and after school and she'd probably even be there in the summer as well at the rate she was going. It was so boring! It was a much better use of time to take a nap in class to make up for her late night prowling than to actually read a book or listen. One language was clearly enough.

Remarque nodded, a more relaxed smile on his face. “I suppose anything sucks if you aren’t passionate about it. Let’s make a plan, then. I’ll brush up on my Greek,” pfft, yeah, right, “And you brush up on your English, and one of these days we’ll have a real conversation. In the mean time, I’ve got some energy to go gather so,” he clucked his tongue and held out a hand to see if she had a taste to shake it now or if she was still going to evade him. “—See you later?”

In which ‘later’ might be a lot later. It wasn’t that Remarque had anything against Nickeline, he just didn’t like to go into something having no idea what he was dealing with. He’d have to track down Benitoite—or maybe some other Negaverse member who could elaborate in good old English. The girl seemed nice enough.

…Decent enough.

Okay, odd enough, for Remarque to take an interest.

Anyone who could stick their fingers in their chest without batting an eye was a curious person indeed.

Anyone clinging to the side of a wall was pretty damn interesting, too. Kinda weird, but Remarque figured weird at least meant there wasn’t going to be a boring moment in sight.

A plan to learn English and he learn Greek? Haha, yeah right. Like she was going to put an effort into learning English. She did really want someone to learn Greek though so she smiled and nodded her head, replying with what could only be described as an enthusiastic okay! She wasn't very enthusiastic about shaking his hand, so she simply waved to him. She still didn't know where he put those hands. In her own chest was one thing, but his hand was clearly another. She waved to him instead.

"Peace out," she said, another classic observation of her English.

It was entirely too likely that she had the same thought as Remarque on the subject. It wasn't very likely she was even going to remember this meeting very well, probably not even his name. She did have something against him, he was American. He didn't know Greek, and he was sort of boring. He stood there talking to her in an alley, that's about as exciting as he got. She'd find out he was less boring if she stuck around or could understand him but at the moment he was about as exciting as a goldfish.

He wasn't nearly as exciting as her, of course, but it was hard to battle with a girl who could stick her hand into her chest and practiced parkour regularly even as a civilian. It felt weird, kind of hurt, but Nickeline was definitely the kid who picked every scab she ever got and poked her fingers into holes when she got cut up (which was a lot). She got bored a lot, and there was something amusing in a sort of twisted way about pulling scabs off and whatnot that she and other children found irresistible.

Another quaint, forced smile appeared on Remarque’s face, and he casually turned his one sided attempt at a handshake into a wave in an effort to mimic the girl’s action. “Yeah. Peace out,” he said, offering one last wave before dropping his hand to his side.

Remarque slid his hands into the pockets of his pants as he turned his body by rolling on the balls of his feet. He started walking, pace rather leisurely. He wasn’t in any rush to get away from Nickeline, but at this point in time, he was content that he’d done all he could do. Sure, he could have advised her that she definitely sounded like she was from the wrong decade or something, but he would sure she’d figure it out on her own.

Maybe.

He both loved and hated unpredictable people. He hated them because they could be difficult to manipulate and control, but he loved them because—Oh, God—the hours of amusement they could provide.

He couldn’t figure out a single thing going on in Nickeline’s head, but hot damn, at least she said some funny s**t.
