Ami let out a sigh of relief as the monster was bested by Marcus. His words were so depressing that she felt a tad awkward. She didn't know Marcus well enough to comfort him, but didn't NOT know him well enough to avoid it and pretend like she knew nothing.
Luckily, she didn't have to think up the right words- not at the moment anyways. Another beast, perhaps a bit bigger than the last one, but not remarkably so, came barreling around the corner. "On your left!" she barked.
Maybe it was just time to silently, and therapeutically, kill things.

The warning was much appreciated at he missed the initial attack, though the second one he wasn't so lucky. Grunting as it got his side he took a step back before launching his own attack A single stab and it was down. "Thanks Ami. You want to try defending again?"

Ami nodded and said, "I ... I can try. Don't expect anything to great." She looked around, waiting for something to attack. It was really creepy looking at the buildings all covered in monsters- just waiting for the danger that undoubtedly lurked around the corner. It was unnerving to say the least.
To her relief, a small monster rushed towards her with tiny claws and teeth. It still put her on edge, but it was remarkably smaller than the other two, and that was some sort of small consolation to her.

Ami let out a gentle laugh as Marcus kicked the smaller thing away. So much for defending him. It looked like Marcus was doing all the defending today. She couldn't even do the one job she was designed for.
"No. I'm okay, let's go back," she said unsteadily. Marcus had certainly put in a good amount of work. He was probably tired and she was probably burdening him with her newbie status. Just like everyone else.
She motioned a shrug and then turned to head back down into the bunker.

Looking around, Marcus didn't see anything else but... Ami needed practice. More then that she needed a confidence boost. "Ami, defend like something it coming at you."

"Why?" Ami said defensively. Was there a monster coming towards them? Ami looked around for a moment, and seeing nothing, she turned back to Marcus looking a little confused and slightly irritated. She was good at following orders, but being randomly ordered to do things, not so much.
Besides, what would it matter? She'd probably just screw it up.
Sighing, she realized there was no arguing it. To blow him off would be incredibly socially incorrect, so she did as she was told, and defended like there was a monster. Well she felt sort of silly just standing here all serious and defensive, and her cheeks began to turn a light pink in embarrassment.

A smirk. "Good posture. Right stance..Now." Dashing forward, he struck at Ami, blade crashing down. He smiled, pushing more until finally, he jumped back. "And you say you can't defend. And before you think I was going easy, I wasn't. You can defend Ami, you just need practice like everyone else."

Ami stood rather placidly until Marcus' blade came down on her. Her eyes went wide and instinct just took over as she blocked his attack and shoved him back, which did no good as he was already jumping back.
A slight smile crossed her face as Marcus encouraged her. She didn't like being pitied much, but coming from him it didn't quite feel like pity. She was still guarded as ever, but offered up a, "Thanks" in return for his encouragement.
It looked like Cass had picked a great guy. The voices in her head started picking up at all once, whispering and she looked around for a moment or two only to remember they were in her head. Right. Maybe it was time to go back to the base and take a nap. "I'm heading back," she said. Ami gave a slight wave, and then she was off.

He smiled, nodding to her. "I accidentally beat up trainees in spars, it's good to know I probably won't have to worry about that with you though. But yeah." No more monsters in sight he followed. "Hopefully, no other runs for the next hour..." he muttered to himself, pausing to look down the halls, a bit paranoid.
Monsters.
