"Herryk means… gone."
He arched his shoulders, rolling them back so that he could stretch the taut muscles there. For a long time he was broodingly silent as he mulled over the pressing question.
What had happened?
Herryk didn't know. He didn't know in the slightest; all he knew was that if such a thing could happen to Riley, the same thing could happen to Freya, to Mort, to Jove, Mitsu… any of them.
"Herryk does not know, but Herryk is going to try to find out. Riley was… turned to stone, in the end, or so it seems. Herryk knows nothing else - not how it happened or why it happened… Herryk does not know how she died or anything of the sort. One day, Herryk sees Riley alive and well, a warrior in every sense of the word.. and then he sees Riley turned to stone."
Herryk fell silent once again, leaning his head against Freya's thigh.

Freya's hands started to shake in his hair. Someone had died, but like, died without any chance of returning, and he'd been at this trip. HEL had been at that trip. She KNEW it was a bad idea, she knew from the start that they should have all stayed home.. but this? She realized she couldn't have imagined it being this bad.
She always expected them to come home. Bruised, battered, permanently scarred both physically and mentally from some ridiculously traumatizing event, sure.
But gone?
The brush fell to the side of the tub, and her hands slid out of his hair and all the way down his shoulders to wrap around him. She snuggled tightly, a desperation in her hold.
"No more field trips." She whispered into his skin. "No more field trips for anybody."

Herryk fell silent as Freya curled around him. Riley's death, though he did not know her as well as others at the Academy, weighed heavy on his mind. That someone could just… cease to be? It was unheard of. Herryk had dissipated countless times before, and he'd always come back. Assuredly, he'd come back battered and bruised, but he'd always come back.
With a soft sound, one that was intended to soothe his beloved, Herryk nodded his head. No more field trips. She was right, and he knew it… but…
"The false reapers were there, as well. It is truly frightening, Freya. Sometimes it feels as if everything is fine -- and other times, Herryk feels as if everything is just slipping out of control faster than Herryk can grasp it."
He felt the desperation in his touch. It was surging throughout him too. What if she'd been on that trip? What if she'd been in Riley's position? What would he have done without her? What would have happened to him then?
"There has to be something that can be done. This seems so surreal… so crazy."

Freya did not like feeling out of control. She sat up, though one hand remained firmly pressed against his chest, and the other moved to take the brush back. As she returned to brushing his hair, she sat in thoughtful silence for a moment.
"Should we.. do yeh thinks we should leaves Amity?" She hadn't heard a thing about all of this madness until she'd come to this school. Her parents had said it was a bad idea, and now Hel was wingless, and they were all in danger of permanent death. It seemed like the right decision. "We can all goes home and gets away from here. We will be safe.. safe with mama and papa." She leaned in and pressed her head against his shoulder. "Won't we?"

Herryk didn't know the answer to that question. The only thing that he knew with absolute certainty was that if the hunters were capable of destroying the homes of the Four Clans, if they were capable of killing students forever, then they were probably capable of destroying all of Halloween.
All of it.
Not just Amityville, but everything.
He didn't want to say that to Freya. He didn't want to tell her that everything - everyone - they loved were in peril.
"Herryk does not know," he began softly, "and Herryk does not think that Hel will simply leave all of her friends behind… and what of Lattice? What of Jove and Mitsu? What of… what of Kettil?" The word was bitter on his tongue, but he quickly moved on.
"Herryk does not want to leave his friends behind to fight this all alone." He lifted her hand from his chest and pressed a kiss to the inside of her wrist before settling her hand back down with a sigh.

As soon as she'd said it, Freya herself had started to doubt her words. She listened to her doubts echoed in Herryk's words, and with each name she slumped further and further down, until she was hunched enough to have her head completely rested on his shoulder, burdened by the weight of worrying about those she loved.
"Yehr right, of course." She sighed out, acquiescing to the reality of things. "I just liked teh thinks there was an easy way out. Ach, Herryk, I've never had to thinks about something like this before. Never had teh makes decisions like this. I just don't know what teh think. I want us all to be safe. Why is it so hard to makes that happen?"
She curled her arms around his thick neck and tugged on it, cuddling his head into her body protectively. She could never handle losing him, she assured herself. There had to be a way to make sure such a thing could never happen.

Herryk didn't have any answers for his ghoulfriend. He wished that he did. He wished that he could say something to ease her worries, but he couldn't. Herryk didn't want to feed her blind lies about how everything would be okay, because he himself wasn't convinced that they would be.
In fact, he knew they wouldn't be. If there had been any time to make a serious attempt on fixing the issue of the hunters, it would have been after the Haunted House field trip. Despite that whole entire ordeal, the loss of a teacher... it didn't feel like anything had changed.
There was still that distant thrum of danger that loomed. The worst part was knowing that he couldn't do anything to save her, to save himself, to save those he cared about. It was unnerving. Unsettling.
"Someone has to make a stand," Herryk rumbled, turning his head to press a kiss against Freya's temple. "There is too much at stake not to."

Freya's eyes closed when the kiss pressed against her skin, and her lips turned up before breaking open in a grin. When her eyes opened again, she turned her head to look at him. "Are we someone?" She asked, mischief and determination gleaming in her innocent eyes. "Are we goings teh takes a stand, then? Will it be us at teh fronts of teh battlefield?" Her eyes opened wide, as if something had just occurred to her. "Ach, if so, yeh has teh tells me now. I'll needs teh order a new set of armor, my old pieces are so outdated."

Her words were food for thought. He wasn't sure if she was serious or not, but..
"Maybe. Maybe Herryk and Freya should be the ones taking a stand. Maybe there is more going on than Herryk or Freya know."
In one quick movement, Herryk rose to his feet, though he was careful to prevent his beloved from falling into the tub. Water sluiced down his body as he stepped from the depths of the tub, puddles forming beneath his feet.
He reached for a towel and quickly wound it around his hips.

Freya certainly liked the idea of taking a stand - and from the view she was granted as Herryk took his stand, she could tell this was the right choice.
"Okay! Then we will!" She yelped, scuttling away from the tub. "We will crush our enemies underfoot! Like little bugs! MWA HA HA HA!" Her foot smushed a fake bug as she said it, and then her hands curved up and her head flung back in her over-exaggerated bellow of laughter. When she sobered up, she bit her tongue and giggled. "I've always wanted teh does that. Pappa used teh says things like that all teh times."
She clapped her hands, and started pushing him with her palms on his wet back. "Okays! Step one teh destroying our enemies is yeh goes and gets dressed. Off yeh gets!" She demanded, slapping his a** in punctuation.

Herryk let out a bellow of laughter, wrinkling his nose as he clutched at his stomach with broad hands. She looked so ridiculous. For a moment he could forget the things he'd witnessed. As he turned, he shook his head.
He froze when he felt that slap on his a**.
"Freya should be careful. Herryk is in the mood to conquer."
His voice was filled with humor, but there was a faint blue glimmer of heat in his eyes.
He moved further into the room, digging in the nearby chest of drawers in search of his favorite pair of sweatpants.

And just like that, Herryk's mood was back to right where Freya liked it. She waited until he left the bathroom, and then silently pumped her fist in victory, hissing out a quiet yesss before skipping out to follow him.
'Okay, Freya will be carefuls." She promised in a sing-song tone, closing the bathroom door and hopping over to his desk. She plucked a piece of candy out of the little bowl he kept on his desk, and then dropped it. Totally by accident.
"Oops," She murmured to herself, bending over in an exaggerated motion to try to retrieve it. "Now where did it goes.."

Herryk had just pulled the pants on when Freya skip-hopped over to the desk. He wasn't sure what her intent was when she reached for the candy, but he'd bent over to grab a soft, worn shirt from the drawers when he heard the murmured 'oops'.
A curious expression on his face, he turned to glance in Freya's direction and was promptly greeted by the delectable curve of her a**.
He lifted a brow. His curious expression became lewd as he took a few seconds to enjoy the sight.
"Oh, no. Did Freya.. lose something, hmm?"

"I diii~iid!" She whined, shifting in exaggerated motions as she searched. "I was goings teh gets a candy, and then it fells right betweens my fingers, and now I cannot finds it, uh oh!" She pushed the chair of the desk out, and then looked underneath it, before flopping down stomach first on the chair and bending over to the point her legs weren't even touching the floor anymore - just flailing slightly to the side. Her hands held the chair, and her hair flopped on the floor as she peeked out at him upside down through the legs of the chair. Her cheeky grin greeted him, and the flush of her face was only partially from being upside down.
"Hai."

Herryk moved closer to where Freya was peering up at him from her position slung over the chair, lips twitching with a smile. He crouched down, one hand bracing against the curve of her a**, the other on the back of the chair. Herryk looked very, very concerned as he peered around on the ground for the candy she'd …dropped.
"Oh no," Herryk rumbled quietly, fingers digging into her skin, "Let Herryk help."
His idea of help was planting his own a** on the ground, criss-cross, before he reached for the chair. A purposeful tug later, and Freya would find herself sprawled out in his lap.
Herryk's smile was devilish.
"Hmm. Herryk does not see this candy that Freya has dropped. Where could it have gone?"
