Nigiri once again listened intently to his father. He loved to learn things, to understand the world better--and it always sounded that much more awesome coming from one of his dads. He nodded his head to show that he understood.
It was kind of cool that as soquilli they didn't all want the same food all the time. It was kind of nice to know it wasn't just him. He trotted over and tried the new one, sea lettuce. It's texture was unique--and it tasted like a main course. It was seasoned but not too sweet or salty that you wouldn't want a lot of it. In short, it tasted really good.
"Oh! Dad, I think I like this one best today!" He wiggled his overlong tail so excitedly he almost knocked himself off balance.

Nori beamed as Nigiri grew excited over the sea lettuce. It was the moments like this when Nori felt proud to be a father. He and his lovemate Gunkan had been blessed with their two sons and he couldn't imagine life without either of them. Chuckling, Nori plucked some of the sea lettuce and tossed it into his now bulging bag. "Did you want to try any more or should we start onto something else?" He asked Nigiri happily. He certainly didn't mind showing the colt more of his beloved seaweed, but he also didn't want to overfill him either. Nor did he want to bore him with all of the lessons.

Nigiri tilted his head and considered. On one hoof, he was terribly hungry still and on the other he didn't want to run out of time to do everything. "I think," he paused. "I think more seaweed, I'm still so hungry and they all look so good."
"Let's have more seaweed," he giggled knowing his dad was going to pick on him about his appetite.

Nori smiled at his son. He certainly did have a big appetite! If he was still hungry then he supposed it wouldn't hurt to show him more. "Just make sure you can still eat dinner tonight." Nori chuckled, knowing he really shouldn't be all that worried about Nigiri. That colt could eat all of the seaweed on the beach and potentially still be hungry.
"Well then," Nori looked around and spotted a different species of seaweed not too far off. "Here we are!" He announced to his son as they approached. "This is spaghetti Seaweed, it grows in long noodle shaped lengths. It has a less salty and more mild taste to it. It's also some of the best for filling up on I think. Why don't you go ahead and give it a try?" The Stallion took a few bites himself, making sure he wouldn't be too hungry while they finished the rest of the days activities.

Nigiri listened to his dad tell him all about seaweed. This was the stuff that he'd have to remember and survive on for the rest of his life. But this was fun too, even if there was a kind of pressure to it. He never got time alone with his dad. Oni was always there, not that he didn't love Oni. But it was nice to have some time to spend with his dad alone. It was one of the best days of his life.
He took a big bite of the spaghetti seaweed. It looked like worms from the sea. but...they were good tasting. It wasn't his favorite, but it was heavier and more filling like an actual meal. He gobbled down a few bites before trying to repeat the knowledge, but try as he might he had issues.
"Sghetti," he made face and tried again but repeated the same sound. For some reason his mouth would just not form the right words.

Nori smiled warmly at his son as the pair ate the seaweed together. It was the times like these that Nori enjoyed the most. Just being able to spend time with his children. He certainly loved being together as a family, but you never really got to know someone in a group the way you did alone. With just Nigiri and himself, the colt was able to express himself and open up more. He didn't have to worry about his brother or even his other father. There wasn't any social pressure and the pair could talk freely without much worry of embarrassment. Oh sure, there were plenty of things Nori was sure his son might not actually want to tell his mother or father, but he could still open up more.
"I'm not sure how many more types of seaweed we can find out here today. I've seen other types, but they just don't grow here. Maybe if we travel to any other beach we can try looking for some new ones. But I think we've exhausted the ones here." He smiled at his son as he talked.

Nigiri enjoyed having his father's attention. It wasn't that he was jealous of Onigiri, or anything like that. It wasn't as if either of his dads loved or spent more time with one or the other of them...he just always wanted and craved this one on one time. And now that he had it, he could feel his heart swelling. It was amazing, probably the best day ever in his entire life.
He waggled his tail, "Sure daddy! I'd like that. And maybe we can try those crafts and find some shells or something? Maybe make something for dad and Oni so they dont' feel left out?" He didn't want them to feel hurt or whatever, and though he loved this special time--he did really miss them both.
He tilted his head as a sudden question popped into his mind. "Isn't there something called sea glass? How is it made? Where do we find it? Is it edible?" He shot the questions all out quick Nigiri style.

Nori smiled at his son happily. It warmed his heart to hear Nigiri thinking of his brother and his other father, not wanting to leave them out. The moments like these were the ones that made Nori feel the proudest of his sons. They reminded him how good and kind others could be, and that they had raised their sons right. He knew there were many unpleasant soquili out there, ones that were evil and shady. He knew others that were weak and dishonest. Yet somehow he and Gunkan had still managed to bring up Onigiri and Nigiri without exposing them to the harsh world around them. Certainly the day would come when they might run into someone unpleasant, but Nori planned to keep them under his wing and untouched for as long as he could.
"Hmmm..." He pondered Nigiri's question for a moment. "I do believe I've heard of it, although it isn't very common. You see, I believe it's made out of glass or pottery that the humans throw away. Somehow it makes it into the sea, either on purpose or accident. The items then end up breaking and and can spend years in the ocean. The water wears down at the glass and tends to smooth it out while leaving something of an etching on it as well. These pieces can be quite beautiful if you can find them. If you want we could look around the beach for some? Although I'm not sure we'll find any."

Nigiri listened intently to his father's tale of the sea glass. It was intriguing that something broken could be smoothed over and beautiful again just by bathing in the ocean. He knew water was great, but not that great! "So water helps a lot of things doesn't it daddy? It heals broken stuffs and our skins? It's like magic, right?"
He smiled up at his daddy before moving closer to the waves. "I would like to look for some, then we coudl make something for dad and Oni! They could have somethign really pretty, and we could try to make up stories about what it once was and what kind of journey it went on to get here. It could be like a big, big adventure where we never even have to left and we could eat seaweed and--and---" He paused to catch some breath.
"I hope we find some, I really hope we do. It woudl be so COOL!" They just had to find some, they just did! I mean they had to after all that and it would be so awesome and everyone woudl be happy and it woudl be the best gift in the entire world!

Nigiri's enthusiasm and love for his family warmed Nori's heart. How had he and Gunkan managed to raise such wonderful foals together? The children themselves were miracles, gifts from the spirits and the wishing star. Even their personalities were gifts it seemed.
"That sounds like a wonderful idea. Where do you want to start looking first?" He asked his son. "What do you think we should make out of the glass? Did you have any ideas?" Nori himself could probably think of something himself to make. Yet he wanted to encourage his son's creativity. He knew it was important for the colt to come up with things on his own. It would help to give him a sense of self worth and to believe in himself. Although if he asked for Help, Nori would be right there to give it to him.

Nigiri giggled some at the expression on his dad's face as he nuzzled him. "We can make Oni and necklace an Dad a bracelet can't we?" He leaned close to his father, leaning on him because he loved him and because he looked like he needed a hug.
"We can do that right? And they'll like it! And the wonderful stories of how we think they got here..." His tail wiggled happily. I think they'll like that!"

Nori nuzzled with his son for a moment before responding. "Of course! That sounds like an excellent idea!" He grinned at the thought.
"Why don't we start looking for some then?" He suggested as he began to scan the beach looking for the glass. It had been a while since he'd searched, but he was confident that they would find some. And if they couldn't find the sea glass then at the very least he knew they would find some shells that they could use. "Don't forget to look for shells as well. We can use them as extra decoration."

Nigiri drug his tail along the sand making patterns as he searched for sea glass. A bright smooth, green piece glinted in the sun and he seized it quickly. "Look at this one dad!"
He couldn't contain his feverish excitement, this would be perfect to give to his brother. A piece of the sea, a wonderful vibrant piece of it. He puffed out his chest in pride. "It's great isn't it?"
