Xiu nodded slowly, her expression thoughtful. "Things you have to do before you can move on, hmm?" It would be hard for someone to move on if they still had regrets about something. In this case...it seemed that Riyo needed to see her mother first. "Yes...it...it will probably not be an easy task, but it has to be done." She agreed quietly, noting the fear in her friend's eyes. What could she say to put her mind at ease? ...Was there anything that could be said?
Well, there was one thing that Xiu had in mind. At the very least, she hoped that it would provide some kind of comfort for her friend.
Giving a little wag of her tail, the baku set her chopsticks down so that she could take one of Riyo's hands in both of hers, smiling up at the other ghoul. "I have confidence in you, Riyo. And remember...Hel, Mitsu...we'll all be waiting for you when you come back, okay?"

Riyo looked at Xiu. Looked long and hard as the baku squeezed her hand.
"And that... Is what makes everything worth it." The feline admitted, a sad smile combatting Xiu's beaming expression. She had realized that what truly made her desire change wasn't just self-satisfaction. It was to be something her friends could approve of, now that she knew without a doubt they were indeed friends.
"Knowing that somebody believes in me is more important than anything else in this world right now. So... I'll do my best not to let you down." Riyo lifted her other hand to pat Xiu's a little awkwardly.
"Just do me a favor. While taking care of others, don't forget to take care of yourself, too."

"You won't let us down!" Xiu chirped with confidence, her tail waving even more enthusiastically behind her, "So don't worry about that, okay? Just focus on what you have to do, and then...and then come back home to Amity!" She grinned at the ghoul, and then leaned in to the head patting, much like how a cat would. Or maybe it was a baku thing.
The request earned a surprised blink, and then she laughed, rubbing the back of her neck a little sheepishly. "Now that you mention it, I have been a little out of it since the trip." The voices in her head and her sleeping troubles were the biggest problems, though she hoped that they would resolve themselves soon enough. Sighing, she bobbed her head.
"I promise I'll take care of myself, okay? So don't worry about me!"

Riyo only wished she could be as confident as Xiu, though she supposed if the shoe was on the other foot it might be harder for the baku to be so optimistic.
She would say something to follow up the overabundance of positive thoughts, but Riyo knew better. The only words that would flow out of her mouth would bring everything back down to a sub-level of emotion. "A promise is a promise."
Sighing, the ghoul polished off the rest of her tea. It had cooled off significantly while they spoke, so it was finish it now or let it get cold. "I'm going to hold you to that."
A soft clink echoed in response to the cup being returned to its rightful place. Swiftly and silently, Riyo stood to take it over to the sink.
"You can have the rest of the food. I need to go back and start cleaning up." It was obvious the feline wasn't very good at goodbyes. She seemed to be rushing out. Maybe it was because she was afraid. Afraid this might be the last time she'd see the baku. The last time someone would fill her with confidence and make her feel like she was worth something. Maybe she didn't want to sink in deeper if that was the case.
"I'll uh... I'll see you later."
... Maybe.

Xiu simply smiled, pushing herself up to her feet to follow Riyo to the door. "Thank you very much for the food, Riyo! And thanks for visiting!" It took a great deal of worry off of her shoulders to finally see her friend again after that disastrous death trial. She just hoped that everything--the bakeneko's trip and her visit to see her mother--would go well.
The baku returned Riyo's goodbye with a nod of her head and a bright, "We'll be waiting for your return!" before she shut the door.
Because yes, she was certain that she would see her friend again after all this was over and done with.
