If a few hits weren't affecting it, then clearly she just needed to do more. Hit harder. One way or another she was going to beat this thing into submission- or just beat it.
Easier said than done, but it didn't mean she wouldn't try.

She could feel she was cutting it close, with Alynthe's warnings, but there was still no way she could give up here. Reine was intent on making every attack count, even if it meant...
Her stomach turned, looking at the body again.

As she scrabbled to move away from the creature she tripped over the large bear, the contents of her pocket spilling out. Why had she thought it would be a good idea to go get him, now, she really wasn't sure. The life trainee's mind had all but blanked from sheer terror, all she could do was reach for the first thing she saw- the last runic bandage she had left.
It offered some relief, but not much- she was still cutting it far too close for comfort. Her phone had fallen somewhere on the floor, too, she recalled with some panic. That she couldn't afford to lose, for sure, even with a monster swiping at her, she had to find it--
Crunch.
At the very, very least, it seemed hunter technology hadn't failed her. When she lifted her foot up the phone seemed to be still intact, but was that a hairline crack on the screen-- she had no time to check. Stowing it away safely, she backed away from the monster again, racking her brains- how could she beat this thing, how?!

When Justin got a text from Reine that looked something like this:Text from Reine Aadsddfknj; kdjienmd 'n aa fdddk The voice in his head, louder and more obnoxious now, was telling him that it was a sign of grave danger. Even though of course, at the first notice of the words peril Justin had decided to follow some other guild mates until the fog seperated them, he was still hounded by that horrible, tearing, and slightly high-pitched voice in his head that kept on insisting she knew the direction.
<Wait I could have sworn....> There was a grateful moment of silence as said voice finally stopped in which the Mist trainee pondered further action. He could wait for the BoP item to once again spew nonsense about fighting for the forces of the light or whispering whatever evils something something blahblah boring generic cutscene content here, or he could take action himself.
Thirty minutes later this proved to be the wrong thing to do. In fact, he almost nearly tripped over an unrezzed player as he tried two lefts again - the walls at least looked familiar this time - aha! He was close to his old hearth origin. Why in fact, there was Reine right over there in her own respawn point -
- Fighting a giant fog monster. Justin wasn't too sure what to think. Well, one thing at a time as he ran for his guild mate, weapon raised defensively. Righetous fury was on. He didn't want to steal her kill after all, battle etiquette was important. "So is this like a new patch or something?" It was actually rather exciting to have a change of environment in a formally familiar area. "What do we have to do for this quest and oh, yeah I forgot to pick it up, can you share it with me?"danse-hexe Justin is defending Reine for 10! ((OOC: HP: 35/40 ))

All Justin would get in reply was a loud shriek as Reine fell to the floor again, the Insanity creature grabbing hold of her ankle and tripping her. Only with the mist trainee's intervention did it let go, snarling and growling, and with the smallest whimper Reine ducked behind Justin, clutching at the back of his jacket with shaky fingers---
Wait, this was embarrassing, she could handle a stupid monster on her own, she didn't need to be rescued or anything.. but technically Justin had just popped out of nowhere, and he was just standing in front of her so that didn't really count..?
This was no time for math, either, Reine scolded herself. Remember where that got you, with the last mission, when you yelled at Dakota for saying he'd protect you, and look how that ended up. Maybe it was okay to, well, rely on someone a little. Her grip on Justin's jacket tightened for a second before she let go again, serious gamer mode on.
"Just gotta kill this thing," she nodded, indicating it with the blade of her swordbreaker. "I'm kinda out of patches.." (did he mean bandages) ".. though, and uh.."
There was no shame, she tried convincing herself again, in working with someone else. That was how they'd taken down the titan, back in the antarctic, wasn't it? And Justin had been decent enough to ask, even though he hadn't actually needed to, so.
"Okay. We can.. share."

Awesome! Now he totally didn't have to run back for the quest score. Justin waited for his Avenger's Shield to recharge, deciding to focus more of attaining aggro than rather taking the chance to hit the quest boss, Reine had found the quest first anyway.
"So what do you think we're facing?" For someone facing a giant fog creature spawned from fragments of Fear screaming loss and agony, the Mist trainee was as usual, entirely cheerful and oblivious, just barely biting back a comment about how Reine could have popped one of her CDs instead of just using a melee skill. "You think this is a secret quest before another raid?"
To be honest he wasn't quite ready to raid quite yet, not after her, but it was important to let his guildmates know that he would never let them down.

Having Justin around made it that much easier to attack- either the Insanity creature found him more appealing, or more tasty, or something, or the mist trainee was just that good at... what was that term he always used, agglutination..?
"It's an insanity creature," she called out, glancing at him curiously. Had he missed the briefing? "Remember that phoenix we were fighting back there? It's the cause of all this.. ugh--" The monster snarled and scratched at her, but Justin blocked the majority of the damage again. "foggy stuff. Thanks."
"I don't know if there's anything stronger than this," she frowned. There were still a bunch of the creatures lurking in the fog, this was the biggest monster she'd seen so far-- but already the figure was starting to sort of waver a little, maybe they were getting to it after all? "If you want, we can go raid, though."
She remembered, with a small twinge of pain in her chest, how Justin had completely shut down before. He seemed to have recovered, sort of, but there was still something a little off, and if raiding helped, then she was up for it, chances were it was their job anyway.
"You can attack, you know," she offered, giving him a small smile. It wasn't much, because the monster was kind of foggy anyway, but maybe hitting something would make him feel better..?

Well, in theory he did remember the final raid boss, who didn't?, but Justin had been rather annoyed at the loot distribution system, they didn't even show what the boss had dropped, sure he had a legendary weapon, but he wouldn't have minded a trinket, or even a headpiece, or anything other than this guild tabard really. He'd have to bring it up the next raid, which speaking of:
"Yeah I remember some of the cutscene," a thought occured to him, "but why didn't anyone bring up loot distribution, I mean in my last guild, we had a much better dkp and..." The trainee continued to ramble as he took Reine's prompt and delivered a quick Seal to the quest boss, it seemed to be more particle effect than actual boss, so they were probably winning. "Did you even see some of the gear the raid leaders had? It's not always fair to have the same people topping the dps charts."
The Mist trainee may or may not have frowned, just slightly in disapproval.

One more slash- the monster screamed, its whispery voices getting just the littlest bit louder and more frenzied. It was barely even visible now, melding back into the fog..
Except apparently it could still attack, sharp claws across her face. If a stupid monster was going to resort to bitchslapping, Reine could do the same, thank you very much.
"I don't think there was actually any loot," the life trainee yelped, ducking to avoid another attack. What were dkp points again? He'd mentioned them that time they were fighting over ice-cream, but he'd gone into so much detail she just couldn't remember anything, and then there was, uh, 'dps', someone had explained that before... damage? Purple squids? She wouldn't put it past Justin.

Whaaaaaaatttt???
Justin stopped dead in his tracks just as the fog creature made a swipe for him - which the Mist trainee countered by punching in the face because currently it was interrupting this much more important revelation.
"No.... Loot?" Justin stared at Reine in disbelief just as the fog creature made a few dying groans and gurgles behind him before dissolving, annoying quest mob was annoying. Sudden revelation. "Holy crap is this...." his mind was racing too fast all at once at the pure implications, how it all added up, the lack of proper equipment, the oddly misguiding quest lines, the raid bosses, "Is this hard mode?"
Wow, no wonder everyone here was a serious gamer.

It was hard to tell if Reine was impressed by the punch to the insanity creature's face, or.. or not, if anything, it was more of just really funny for some reason. The life trainee was doubled up in laughter, especially with that look on Justin's face--
That look on Justin's face. With a few coughs to hide the giggles that wouldn't stop, Reine straightened up, trying to look serious. Well, he'd helped her beat the monster, never mind that she hadn't needed it anyway probably, so maybe he deserved something.
She stepped towards him, a little nervous, a little hesitant, and stared at him. All things considered, she didn't think she could take rejection too well right now, and it would probably make things really, really really awkward between them, which was really not what she wanted, because even if hunters had short lifespans, they would probably still have to spend a few more years in each others' company.
"Uhh.."
A pause, as she considered, and reconsidered, this was really important to her. As if she'd finally made up her mind, Reine bit her lip, and leaned in a little closer to Justin.
"Please take care of him."
The mist trainee was presented with a large bear plushie, which, in Reine's mind, was the best kind of loot ever. Round blue puppydog eyes stared into Justin's, as if daring him to say no, because she was making a huge sacrifice here, okay.

Wait 'him?' Justin's lips took a small 'o' as he stared at the stuffed bear with glasses, it kind of reminded him of someone, someone obnoxious, he just couldn't remember what...
"How did you even fit that in your inventory bag?" The Mist Trainee was boggling, staring at the massive size of the trinket, or wait, were you supposed to equip it? Oh man, this was embarrasing but he honestly had no clue what the item was supposed to do.
He took the giant oversized plush in both his hands and slowly, very slowly, lugged it a few steps over, face growing a little pink because he was pretty sure that was not how one equipped the item. It wasn't until he took another step that he had a sudden moment of thoughtfulness.
"Wait, I got a better idea!" With that, he placed the bear thoughtfully right in the rather large hole in the wall that now spanned between Justin's hearth respawn point and Reine's. The Mist Trainee paused for a second admiring his handiwork. "There we go, now we can both see it when we log in!"
He seriously was hoping she wouldn't ask him to carry it all the time okay.

"Um.. I leave him in my room?" She couldn't carry it around all the time, obviously, she'd thought this was common sense, unless maybe Justin had never had a teddy bear before? Or at least one this big? At least the plushie had found a good home now, Reine thought, extremely pleased with herself. And look, Justin was even blushing a little, clearly that meant he liked it!
She was sad to see the bear go, of course- he'd kept her company for so many months, he'd been there to share her joy and sadness both... it was almost a little overwhelming to think she'd actually just let him go like that- but it was for Justin's good, Reine thought, a little more firmly. Maybe she could just.. ask to visit him sometimes, or--
Wait, I got a better idea!
The life trainee eyed him quizzically, what was Justin thinking-- oh.
Awwwwwwww.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Her heart practically melted- though she had been a little worried at first when he put the bear in the hole in the wall- but he'd been fairly careful with it, instead of just roughly shoving. Which was a good thing! Bear respect!
The mist trainee would find himself attacked, but not by an insanity creature- Reine practically tackled him, throwing her arms around him in a brief hug.
"Thank you."

Justin wasn't too sure what he felt about being hugged by another dude, or male avatar roleplaying as a female, whatever they fancied, it was an online game really, but he slowly /hugged back.
If there was one thing he was learning in this game, it was that different items clearly had very different values.
