Sutai sniffled and her breathing calmed after a few minutes. She shook her head. "I... I dunno. I don't want to pick on anyone. I just want to save people from the monsters, like Camelot and Caelian saved me. They were so nice, they really were! Camelot said all he wanted to do was protect the innocent people of Earth, and well..." Gripping her hands into tiny fists, she pleaded with Remarque. "I want to do that too! I don't want to hurt anyone and... and well... you seem awfully nice, Remarque. I don't think you'd hurt anybody."

Her brows furrowed for a moment. The Polaris Page was truly confused - while his signature read dark and Chaos, Remarque didn't seem like the type to go out and hurt people. He wasn't like those monsters that tried to tear her limb from limb when she first awakened. It was so frightening and her heart started to race just from the memory. Sutai shook her head. "You wouldn't hurt anybody, Remarque, and I'm sorry somebody tried to pick on you. That's not right."

After a few moments of silence, Sutai smiled. "But Mama always said bad things happen when people can't see eye-to-eye, like when there isn't enough communication. Maybe... you know, maybe if we all just sit down and talk things out, well, they'll get better and we'll understand each other! ....right?"

Remarque bit his tongue at mention of Caelian. He had not quite gotten along well with the Page of Venus, and while Camelot had merit, he had not quite forgotten what he had done in terms of harm to a certain member of the Dark Mirror Court.

He didn't think it wise to tell Sutai that he had hurt people before. As Remarque, he had drained energy from a lot of people—good and bad. And as Jett? Hell, he got a kick out of picking on people—and he'd gotten into his fair share of fist fights and brawls outside the ring. While he didn't like her thinking that somebody tried to pick on him—nobody picked on him—he didn't bother to correct her. A bit difficult to win people over when they were getting pissy about you correcting them.

"Your mother has a very good point," he informed, just wanting to make sure her tears didn't return. "I think if we could find a method to properly communicate—and an environment where the White Moon would be willing to hear us out, perhaps all this fighting could be resolved. But I don't know if it will ever happen. For whatever reason, there seems to be bad blood between the White Moon and…well, everyone else. But I suppose that's what happens when you get used to always being in control, hmm? You just don't care what others think when you are convinced that your way is 'the only way.'"

Not to mention that Ares held as large a grudge against the White Moon as they seemed to hold against her—but at least Ares still wanted to save them.

Color Sutai confused.

The crystalline page tilted her head in genuine confusion. "What does the moon have to do with anything?" she asked, touching a few fingers to her lips absently. None of the knights she'd ever met really mentioned the moon - only the planets they represented. What the big, white thing in the sky made of cheese had to do with anything, well... that was anyone's guess. She shook her head. "I dunno about all that but there is one thing I do know!"

The page of Polaris spun about in a tight circle and struck a pose with a wink and the V-for-Victory sign. "Food always makes people happier. So how's about this? I make you some food, and wrap it all up nicely in a satchel for you... and we be friends? That sounds good, doesn't it? I think so. Maybe we could hold a big, big, biiiiiiig banquet for everyone in the name of peace! I think that would be a great idea." Sutai giggled and blushed a little at her own brilliance. Camelot would be proud of her efforts in the name of peace! The Earth could be one step closer to ending the war or whatever was going on if everyone was less cranky and had full bellies.

If there was one thing she learned from Mama, it was that people got cranky on empty stomachs. "Now, do you like Indian food? Mama has been teaching me all the traditional family recipes but I also like to bake and cook other things. Let me guess." She leaned in close to Remarque and frowned in deep concentration. "...you have a sweet tooth!"

Remarque was every bit as confused as Sutai was, though he wasn't bouncing back quite as quickly. Such extreme cheerfulness from the emotional state she'd just been in left him wondering if this was some sort of trick but she—like Virtus—left him wondering if that was even possible. Either she was terribly clever or was just amazingly naïve.

He did not, in fact, have a sweet tooth. Sweets often gave him a stomach ache—not that he was going to admit it. While he had a stomach of steel for most occasions, sugar was never worth. "Not quite," he said, crossing his arms over his chest as he looked down at the page with a very raised brow. Nor was he particularly fond of Indian food, but that almost seemed like it could be getting too personal. What did he care to share his food preferences to anyway? "…Are you really so driven for peace?" he prompted, wondering how she could push for it so easily. She didn't seem to have any true concept of what was going on around her, and while she wasn't pressed for hostility, she was definitely going to be out of her league. He was torn—in a way. The Negaverse probably couldn’t make use of her, so there was no use in trying to save her—but she obviously wasn't going to be able to defend herself.

Hell, he wasn't sure what to do. Disposing of her seemed a little unnecessary—was she really any sort of threat? Maybe there'd be an opportunity to exploit her for information one day.

…Not that she seemed to know anything or anyone at present.

Are you really so driven for peace?

Sutai didn't really understand the question. Of course she was driven for peace. Who wouldn't be?

She blinked at him, big golden eyes worried. "Well, you see..." she started, trying to turn the phrases over and over in her head. She'd read enough to know what happens when war rages on unabated. It was explaining the whole thing that was difficult to do. "...you see, I would be very sad if something happened to my friends because of all... all the bad things happening now. If bad things continued to happen, well then bad things would happen to you and your loved ones too. War doesn't discriminate."

The dark-skinned girl played with the ends of her dress absently. "...and then if something happened to you, your loved ones would be very upset. You know, I would be upset too. War just brings sadness. You know, people vow revenge for something and then the other person vows more revenge... like the whole eye-for-an-eye thing leaving everyone blind. War just... it's not right." Fiddling with her fingers, Sutai looked up again. "I don't want people to have to suffer with loss and sadness... it makes me sad just thinking about it. But... that's why I want everyone to get along. That way, nobody has to be lonely or sad anymore."

The Polaris Page took a deep breath and sighed. "That's not bad, is it?"

It was with a rather unexpected interest that Remarque listened to Sutai; he'd half expected her to jump back into talking about 'friendship-feasts' or something. But she hadn't. Instead, she had surprised him. Her answer had been insightful and surprisingly deep—coming from a girl who'd seemed so scatterbrained. It was something he could agree with—in pieces. Yes, there were casualties in war. Yes, there was always a risk that you could die—that people you knew and cared for could be lost.

But that's why he focused on being so strong. On making sure that they could take care of themselves. The Dark Mirror Court was safe, he told himself. They would be strong enough that this war wouldn't claim a single damn one of them—not if he had anything to say about it.

"…No, I don't suppose," he said after giving her words a fair bit of thought. He didn't believe in the same thing—not so naively. Despite whatever outcome a war had, there would always be losses, always sadness. There would never be a time that everyone got along—but go ahead, let her stay naïve. If it meant she'd stay out of his way, so be it. "You'd do well to preach that. I think the rest of your lot could learn a thing from you. Peaceful ways and all. I'm sure we could all come to a peaceful agreement."

Just as soon as they all got off their high horses and came to their senses. They'd realize they were all in the wrong—eventually.

"You think so? Really?"

Sutai's eyes brightened. If anything, she'd learned that there was another side to the war. Another side other than the Negaverse. That she didn't know before. And perhaps the Dark Mirrors would be more inclined to work things out that the Negaverse or the awful monsters that didn't seem like they could really talk at all. "I'm not so good at preaching. I mean, preaching has such a negative connotation when you put it that way but... I know what you mean." Sutai nodded in understanding. "Um... I think if we all try hard enough then eventually we can come to terms with each other. I mean, at least we're not throwing nukes around and everything, but even the countries in the past World Wars made agreements. So if they can do it, I don't see why we can't do it too, you know?"

But what she didn't understand was why Remarque seemed to hate knights so much. She had to hazard the question. "Um... Mister Eternal Remarque, um... Why do you not like knights so much? Did one of them hurt you?" Surely they had to have had a good reason. All the knights I've met were so nice and understanding. They wouldn't hurt anyone on purpose unless they had a very, very good reason for it! "...do you not like me too, because I'm a knight? I mean, I didn't pick to be much of anything, truthfully. It just kinda... happened. Did it just kinda happen for you too?"

"One of them? Remarque repeated, though it was rather rhetorical and, as if he found the statement amusing, he laughed. "It wasn't just one of them, Sutai. There have been very few knights that more than batted an eye before attacking me. I am naturally distrustful and disturbed by them for such reasons. Not that it isn't pleasing to find someone that's a special circumstance. You, for example, have been quite pleasant to talk to. Perhaps I'll reconsider how I think of knights after this," he said—though it was little more than sweet words. There would always be exceptions to the stereotype, and while Sutai didn't seem to have the hatred and rage the other knights felt for the Dark Mirror, that didn't mean that it wasn't still running rampant in her allies.

Still, she had been social and friendly—and he was certain that would work to his advantage. Particularly when he could find out something about the knights. "But to answer your other question—yes. It just kind of happened to me, too. Ares was there to awaken me. To recruit me for her cause." He remembered the moment—fondly, now. He had not been quite so pleased when he was first being awakened, if only because it was an odd situation. Now, he couldn't be happier. "And all I had to do was take a little swim through a mirror. It was painless. What about you? How did you turn into—this? Into Sutai? Did you magically wake up in bed like that or did you have to go through some archaic ritual?"

Sutai fidgeted under Remarque's scrutiny and her heart ached for the pains the Dark Mirror Senshi had endured under those on her side. She pulled at her skirt's embroidery absently. "Well... well I'm sure they were doing what they thought was right... You know, like we all are." She sighed, turning away worriedly for a moment. Now she kind of wished she could have someone there to hug, to cling to, to be comforted by. This level of seriousness made her uncomfortable and nervous. "But... but I always try to talk first if I can. I don't like hurting people. I don't want to hurt anybody..."

Dark hands wrapped around an equally dark braid. Golden eyes stayed locked on her feet. "Um... well, there was this horrible monster trying to eat me, and I got really scared, you see." Sutai started, mumbling the first part out of nervousness. She lifted her head finally. "Mister Camelot, he was very brave. He had a big shield with a laser in it and he pulled me to safety, and then my telescope showed up and... then I was Sutai. And ever since then, I've had my telescope."

She gave an anxious little laugh and turned the copper (or was it brass? She wasn't sure.) item over and over in her hands. "It works like a real telescope, so I like looking at the stars with it..."

The manner in which Sutai explained becoming Sutai was of interest to Remarque. An item was responsible for the girl before him? Then, did that mean that anyone could harness the power of the knights, if only they are granted the item? Could it be stolen? Intercepted? Or was it bound to her?

He ached to ask, though severely doubted Sutai had the answers. She had been stumbling through responses to answer as best she could, but she was not the best person to ask, and he could see that. A knight would be the best choice—someone who had been around for long enough to have been exposed to more. Not that any knights were ever willing to talk.

Sutai had not been useless. She had given him valuable information he might not have been privy to otherwise, and for that alone, he should be grateful. "That is convenient. And it suits you, I should think. You look like one who might be happiest against the stars. You certainly look the part. Well. You reflect enough light, at the very least."

His eyes drifted to the stars and he looked, in a way that he hadn't in a long time. Space was large. Compelling. So easy to lose yourself in. It was almost hard to pull his gaze back down to Sutai. "I suppose it's getting late, Sutai. I'd like to thank you for this conversation. You've been particularly enlightening. In fact, I dare say you've changed the manner in which I perceive knights. I'd like to think there's hope for us, yet."

He spoke, as if with conviction, however Remarque was a stubborn soul, and there was very little that could make him budge. A few tears and kind words were not powerful enough to make him adjust the entire manner in which he perceived knights, order—this whole war.

Sutai nodded quietly at Remarque's comments. Yes, it was very late but she thought maybe she'd made a friend. Someone who had come to understand a little bit more about the opposite side of the war as she had. Maybe she had enlightened him a little bit! Proven than not all knights would attack on sight! That would be a step in the right direction as far as she was concerned.

"Yes, I think there's hope. I think there's always hope."

Stepping back, the Polaris Page gave a short curtsy in respect to the Dark Mirror. "Have a good night, Remarque. And thank you for talking to me."

His comments about the stars made her wonder... would she ever get to see them? She knew Polaris was a star high above in the sky, twinkling every so often to remind her of her duties. Polaris was like a mother, always watching, always guiding her home. Sutai sincerely hoped Remarque had a mother in the sky like she did - something to look up to, something to be guided by. Something to go home to. She gave the Eternal Dark Mirror a soft smile and turned away, bounding up to the rooftops to return home to her real mother who no doubt had no idea where her daughter was.

Maybe one day we can see the stars together, Remarque?
