Despite the fact the two were fighting, Repede wore a smirk which seemed to indicate that he was enjoying this little duel. As he was shaken off, the Growlithe lept back as well, just in time to receive an Aurora Beam to the chest. Interesting. Shaking off the slightly chilled feeling it left, he did indeed dare to use a fire attack. He only had so many options, and using Bite repeatedly was not his style.

The Growlithe made the charge while his body was suddenly engulfed in a roaring inferno. Leaping for Fathom, seering flames swirled towards him in a Flame Wheel attack.

The girl seemed to be getting all the more nervous about this little battle, and Yuri took it upon himself to sit on a nearby bench. "It's a friendly battle," he told her. "This is one way Repede makes friends with other Pokemon."

"If you say so," the girl murmured, though her eyes were full of doubt as she continued to watch the fight.

Fathom hesitated, surprised to see flames rise from the canine pokemon. Curious, he paused a little too long when making a leap out of the way and was caught in the Flame Wheel.

Though the damage could have been worse had he been any other type, Fathom shook himself off and attempted to stand once more. Something was wrong, though. His hind leg - it was burned. There wouldn't be much dodging from here on out, and the pain was worsening. He smiled grimly, mentally berating himself for having underestimated the young pup.

Repede was not yet evolved like Fathom was, nor did he have a type advantage, yet the Vaporeon wasn't used to being so close to fainting. He swayed on his feet unsteadily, but attempted to snap another Bite attack.

He wasn't the only one uncomfortable with the situation, either. His trainer, at the sight, heat, sound, and smell of fire, gave a little shriek and hid behind Yuri, clutching the back of his clothes and shutting her eyes tight. She hadn't expected the Growlithe to use a fire attack either.

Yuri for one, had not been expecting a girl to latch onto him, and he stood there with eyes wide for a moment. While shocked, he didn't seem especially bothered by it and turned to look down behind him. A soft, amused chuckle coming from the man.

"Hey, come on. It can't be that scary, right? Aren't you a Pokemon trainer?"

He would think that someone who was devoted to training would be use to this sort of thing.

Repede could smell the uncomfortable feelings from both Vaporeon and his human, and could tell that Fathom had been burned. He paused for a moment, but then tried to move again as the counterattack came. However, he was unable to dodge this time and the water type's teeth caught his shoulder. Growling in pain, he then wheeled around and aimed another Bite attack back at his opponent.

A few minutes after the fire subsided, the trainer slowly opened her eyes and looked up at Yuri. Realizing what she had done, she immediately let go and took a step back.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!" she apologized. "It's just that I...I-I...Well, I'm just a beginning trainer, and I..." The girl stared at her feet as she spoke, tracing circles on the ground with the tip of a toe. She didn't seem to be able to speak her mind.

Fathom stopped a moment, watching his young trainer with some concern, before getting his head back in the game. She wasn't hurt; and besides, she had that other human to look out for her.

With the burn slowly depleting his energy and stamina, the Vaporeon took the attack from Repede hard, falling heavily on his side. he cried hurriedly, rolling onto his back and putting up a paw in surrender.

He huffed and took a minute to draw fresh air back into his lungs, coughing a little from the smoke of the fire. It stung his eyes, but he was still laughing good-naturedly as he blinked, trying to clear them as they watered. he choked.

Getting back up to his feet, he dipped his head in respect to Repede. His smile faded slightly as he glanced over at Tymiko. He sighed and shook his head.

"Oh come on, you'll be a champ in no time!" Yuri said as he turned around and put a hand on his hip, smiling at the girl in a friendly fashion. "You just need to have some confidence, and be a little less afraid of fire."

Repede paused and stood over Fathom as he clearly gave up. There was laughter in his eye as he sat and placed a good-natured paw on the Vaporeon.

"" There was then a little glint in his eye as he turned to peer at him. ""

"See? Its over now. Repede's a good dog." Yuri told Tymiko reassuringly as he witnessed the scuffle coming to an end.

With her phobia exposed and out in the open, the girl looked up in surprise, her face burning with humiliation. "I-is it that obvious?!" Well, duh...I only freaked out when the flames showed up.

At Yuri's encouragement, the water trainer attempted a shy smile, glancing from his face back down to the ground. "Easier said than done," she laughed a little. "If only I could."

the Vaporeon assured Repede, He flexed his tail experimentally, casting it an incredulous look, as if it was his limbs' fault he had lost the battle.

Turning back to his young trainer, Fathom curled around her legs like a cat and looked up at her inquiringly. "Vapor?"

Giving him an acknowledging wink, Ty crouched down to scratch her pokemon behind his ear fins. "Wow...that was some battle," she commented, perhaps to the two who had participated. "Great job, Repede. I, um...didn't realize a fire-type could do so well against water." In spite of her evident fear of his fiery attack earlier, Tymiko seemed genuinely proud that the Yuri's Growlithe had won the battle. "Yuri was right; you are a good dog."

Because he'd given up before fainting, Fathom wasn't totally out yet, but his burn still needed tending to. Picking up the heavy water-type, she glanced apologetically at Yuri. "Uh...you wouldn't happen to know where the nearest pokemon center is, would you? I don't think I have any burn heals on me..."

Yuri raised his brows in a continually amused fashion. Well, yeah... it was kind of obvious, at least it was to him anyway. Although the girl seemed to quickly realize that as well.

"Sure you can," he then continued. "You just have to believe it. That's where it all starts, right here," he said pointing at his head. Yuri then looked down as Repede rejoined him by coming over to sit at his feet.

"" the Growlithe agreed, whilst watching the interation between Fathom and his human. He then wagged his tail when Tymiko said he was a good dog. The Growlithe tilting his head up in pride at the compliments.

Yuri laughed, "Yeah, but don't go praising him too much. It might go to his head."

This drew a snort from the blue fire dog.

"Pokemon Center?" the man then repeated and he paused with a confused look on his face. "Oh you mean that place where they heal Pokemon, right? Yeah, I know where that is."

Repede gave a couple barks, before starting to trot in the direction of the said center.

"Just follow Repede," Yuri told Tymiko, and began following the pooch himself.

Raising a brow with a skeptical grin, the girl shook her head at the silly young man, but said nothing more on the matter of her fear. Believing...that was something she could do. It was just a great deal more difficult when one had had their beliefs dashed against the wall and shattered more than once before.

Tymiko was pleased that Repede no loner seemed as wary of her as before. Giggling at Yuri's warning, she murmured teasingly, "Why do I get the feeling that would apply more to you than him...?"

Half surprised to find that Yuri didn't seem familiar with the name of Pokemon Centers, the girl laughed and hurried after Repede.

"Oof - sorry, Fathom, but you're too heavy!" she told her water-type. He cast her a look of mock resent before allowing her to return him to his Dive Ball. With her hands free, she picked up speed and got ahead of Yuri.

"Last one there is a rotten Poke egg!" she called over her shoulder.

"Heh! Guilty as charged," Yuri said with his own mischevious grin. He then watched as Tymiko ran ahead, smirking as he carried his sword on his shoulder. He didn't pick up his pace though and continued on with his own leisurely stroll in the direction Repede had gone. He was always good at being a rotten egg. Flynn always won their races, after all.

Repede, true to his instincts and sense of direction, led them to the Pokemon Center. It was there that he stopped and laid down by the front door. True he had not gone unscathed from the battle, but he didn't really need the medical attention. He was more than happy to rest it off.

Yuri made no move of going inside either.

"Well, Champ, your Pokemon should be in good hands here." He didn't really see any reason in sticking around anymore.

When the girl finally stopped to catch her breath, she looked behind her. "Aww," she whined, disappointed but amused as she saw the long-haired Yuri trailing behind them. "You didn't even try!"

With Repede resting by the door, she looked to him, still huffing with her hands on her knees as she asked, "Don't you want to go in?"

By then, Yuri had caught up. "Thank you," she told him. "Both you and your pokemon. But Yuri, haven't you ever been in a Pokemon Center before?" She glanced at the Growlithe. "No offense, but I don't know how you and Repede made it this far without stopping at one. Or is it that you just don't visit often?" He had said he wasn't a trainer, hadn't he?

Standing casually by the door, he leaned his shoulder against the wall. "Naw, not really. We don't have Pokemon Centers where I come from. We've gotten along fine without them before, so I don't see any need to use them now." He just gave a shrug and a smile, while Repede barked in agreement.

He didn't see at all offended by Tymiko's comments either. He wasn't a trainer and saw no need for the center since he didn't train Pokemon on a regular basis. Sure, if Repede was on the verge of death or something, he might take him there. But the Growlithe had been at that point once before and there hadn't been a center to take him to.

Ty stared. "B-but then how do you heal your pokemon? Do you just...let them rest and stuff? What about potions?" She couldn't imagine just leaving Fathom to chance, but if they didn't have Pokemon Centers or potions where Yuri was from, it didn't seem like they had much choice. Perhaps that was what had made Repede that much stronger for surviving without automatic healing.

"Yeah. If Repede ever got in a fight, he'd have to rest and let his injuries heal themselves. Potions are kinda expensive in Grande Ile, cause they're imported."

He didn't really see what was so surprising about that. Its not like you could instantly heal people or use potions on them either.

"Back when I was in the military, we had more resources and could use them if we really had to. But..." Yuri gave another shrug, showing his indifference on the matter.

She glanced at the Growlithe again, noting the scar over his eye. Had he gotten that as a result of not having gone to a Pokemon Center? Poor thing...

"Yeah...I guess healing naturally like wild pokemon must do might make them learn how to survive better," Ty muttered vaguely. "But...you were in a military? Wow - what made you choose to do that?"

Yuri didn't comment on the survival thing, but he figured she was probably right. What didn't kill you, made you stronger, after all. He was definitely a believer in that sort of philosophy.

His smirk faded though as she asked about why he joined the military. His mouth twisted into a pout and he looked away.

"That's a long, boring story."
