Tymiko the Pirate Girl Quote: b]|.| Prompt One |.| What would your Aduthule do for a Klondike Bar? Pair: Sky/Sea Names: Dyaus (Sky), Lamar (Sea) Word Count: 1,000 (exactly. XP) Other: ((I'm hoping not to copy anyone else's amazing entries, but it's very difficult to think of an original one that might even equal the others. sweatdrop So please forgive me if mine seems way off. I don't know if this is allowed to take place outside modern day life, such as in the wilderness, so I could have gotten everything all wrong.))
It was a beautiful, clear summer day, and there was not a cloud in sight. The soft swaying of the ocean seemed to entrance Lamar, calling to him, as he watched it climb up the shore line, change its mind, then head back toward the sea again. After clambering up onto a large rock halfway jutting out of the sea, he dove in, relishing the cool water on his skin as he went under.
Dyaus, on the other hand, had left Lamar to follow a few funny white seabirds he had noticed, pecking for food in the shallow seawater. He mimicked them for a while, amusing himself, until he saw a glint of something shiny. It was a corner of a silvery sheet of paper, he realized, as he unearthed it from the sand. The paper was perfectly square and white on one side, but on the other, it was a glimmering silver marked with blue and white. The lettering Dyaus couldn't understand, but the image was clear enough. A polar bear. He had seen it on a TV once.
"Hey, Dyaus!"
Dyaus groaned and turned, the paper still carefully clutched in his hand. Sure enough, Lamar was racing toward him, footprints marking his trail from the ocean.
"What is it, Lamar?" he asked dully. But his eyes flickered to something flashing in his brother's hands.
"Look at this. What do you suppose it is?" Lamar held out the object in his hand, but there was no need. Dyaus already knew it was an exact copy of the treasure he had found, only covered with bits of seaweed instead of sand.
"Don't know," He answered, put out that he hadn't been the only one to discover the paper. He tossed it over his shoulder carelessly, but before it fluttered to the ground, Lamar caught it with his graceful motion. Dyaus gritted his teeth; he always envied his brother for his grace and poise, among other things.
"Oh, so you found one too? Well, I have another, so that's three all together...but then...I wish I knew what they were, exactly. Maybe some sort of secret message. See the marks? And the picture? It looks like an animal."
"That's a polar bear," Dyaus replied, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "Don't you know anything? They live on the top of the world, and they eat fish."
Before Lamar could say anything more, company arrived. A young girl, appearing about 12 or 13 approached them. There was a sparkle in her aqua blue eyes and a smile on her face. "Hi guys!" She greeted. "What're you doing? Having fun?"
"Hi, Tymiko. Yeah, we are. Thanks for bringing us to the beach." Dyaus shot his brother a desperate look and thrust the wrappers behind his back. When Lamar failed to speak, he nudged him hard.
"Oww! Hey...oh...yeah. Sooo much fun." The sea aduthule glared at Dyaus while rubbing his arm.
Tymiko gave them a knowing half-smile and shook her head. "What's the deal? I know you boys are hiding something...Dyaus, what's that behind your back?" She tilted her head curiously.
"Oh...uh...this? It's nothing...um..." Dyaus, handing the wrappers over, throwing Lamar a dirty look.
"What in the world...? Are these...Klondike Bar wrappers?"
"A Klondi-what?" Dyaus inquired.
"A Klondike Bar wrapper. Some person's trash. A Klondike Bar is a sort of food they eat. It's very sweet and cold. Ice cream with a shell of chocolate." She informed them. "I can't believe neither of you know about them. They're on the commercials all over the TVs in the city. I noticed them when we stopped by there the other day at the store. Remember? They'd say, 'What would you do for a Klondike Bar?'"
By now, Lamar's mouth was watering. "I know what I'd do...I'd go north and find a polar bear!"
"Well, I'd wrestle it to the ground!" challenged Dyaus. "And force it to lead me to its stash of Klondimars!"
"That's Klondike Bars!" Tymiko corrected them. "And polar bears don't hoard Klondike Bars! They don't even live...around...here..." But it was too late. Both boys were already too distant to catch her words, each eager to find a polar bear before the other. She doubted they would have taken her seriously anyway.
Let them have their fun, she thought, amused at their frantic hunting and their unwavering determination. They need to learn more about the world on their own...somehow...
A few hours later, the girl discovered the boys after wandering along the shore line in search of them for so long. "Lamar...Dyaus...!" she breathed.
The twins had found their treasure. Lamar was enjoying himself in a white cart of ice water, something white and sticky smeared all over his face. Dyaus was perched like a gargoyle on top of a white heap, which Tymiko realized, after it had groaned, was a man dressed in a white uniform. He was facedown in the sand. Dyaus himself looked pretty pleased, licking some dripping dark liquid from his messy fingers and sucking on them. Instead of white smeared on his face, it was a deep brown. A chocolate brown. Klondike Bar wrappers littered the sand, a small mountain of silver, white, and blue.
"We found the polar bear," Lamar told Tymiko triumphantly, licking his lips and some of the white smears around his mouth. Then he tapped a finger on the side of the cart, where a polar bear was pictured, along with the blue lettering, "Klondike Bars".
"That's for sure. He put up quite a fight, but I got him in the end," Dyaus chimed in, wanting his own share of the glory. "Then we took his treasure. The Konlight Cars...they were delicious. Well, the dark shell part anyway. Chocolate, I think Lamar called it."
"No way. The ice cream was the best. And that can't be the polar bear, Dyaus...the real one, the one guarding the cars..." he gestured again toward he Polar Bear picture, "didn't even put up a fight."

Friday, June 16, 2006 ~ Entry 3
It was around midday while I was at the Aduthule Museum, talking to Lena, Carlos, and Gaspar, when I suddenly felt something in my hand vibrate. Glancing at it in curiosity, I discovered it was the very relic I had been asking Lena about; the relic that had brought me all this way to the Aduthule Museum. Was it trying to tell me something?
Lena, caretaker and mother to her two Aduthule boys, Carlos and Gaspar, had explained to me what she knew about these mysterious relics. Having only seen her boys' relic from a picture, she told me she wasn't actually there when they emerged, and therefore wasn't particularly certain on how to activate them.
I became discouraged and began to wonder if perhaps I wasn't meant to be the guardian of the intriguing object, for if it was to turn into two children like Carlos and Gaspar, I wasn't sure if I could handle it. After all, I'm not much more than a kid myself. What do I know about parenting?
Still, Lena was kind and encouraging, and told me she believed I could do it.Lenachan358 "I bet you're definitely the right guardian, perhaps it just needs some time." Lena gently put a hand on Tymiko's shoulder and smiled slightly. "It was very nice to meet you too, but I think you should keep it. Such things don't come to you without a purpose." She explained that perhaps talking to it may help, since 'children of all kinds need language and love'. How very true she is. I'm really glad to have met her and her Thule boys. They've really helped me through my confusion since I first discovered the relic had come into my hands.
