A Ribbon Runs Through It
“Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!” Mana exclaimed, with a giggle, as she slid down the icy hill, while in the form of a Vanillite. Playing in the snow was quite fun, but it was both quite cold out, far below freezing, and the wind was blowing something fierce. Mana found the snow to be much more enjoyable when she wasn’t constantly shivering, hence her current Ice Type disguise. She had been sliding for hours and hadn’t grown tired of it yet. Some Pokémon might tire of constantly lugging themselves up the long, steep, snowy slope, but, unlike her, those Pokémon couldn’t levitate. She probably would have continued the rest of the day, if not for the flash of bright blue that spun through her peripheral vision. What was that? she pondered, completely distracted by the flash of color. Turning her head, she barely caught a flap of blue fabric as it shot over the ridge.
She levitated as fast as she could up the hill and, once she reached the summit, she spotted it. Just in the distance, currently wrapped around a branch, there lay a beautiful, bright blue, ribbon. It was so pretty, she had to catch up to it! With a leap into the air, her ice cream cone like form shot down the other side of the mountain, headed straight for the ribbon. Unfortunately, just as she was about to reach it, it slipped off the branch and continued on its way….which took it over the edge of a snowy ravine.
There was no way she would catch it like this! Determined to catch it, and figuring that flight was the key now, she transformed into an Articuno and took wing after it. Reaching the edge, she dived downward, scanning for the ribbon. Her eyes just weren’t keen enough to see it, though. Not willing to admit defeat, she had another idea! Deciding to brave the cold, she transformed, in mid air, into a Pidgey. Her vision now improved, she once again scanned and just barely was able to catch the flap of blue. The ribbon must have hugged the contours of the ravine and, upon reaching the bottom, caught itself on a small rock formation. Grinning at her luck in spotting it, she dove down the side of the ravine, her wings outstretched and her beak ready to grip onto the ribbon.
It was not to be, not yet at least. Once again, just as she neared it, the wind managed to tear it lose from its perch, and the ribbon took off. She had wings now, though; she could keep up. She zoomed after the ribbon as it flew this way and that, never stopping, always just out of her reach. She even followed it over the edge of a cliff. Soon, thanks to their already high altitude and the ribbon being caught in an updraft, she could barely see the ground below her. At least she was having fun though; this was way more fun than sliding down the hill…and that had been incredibly fun! It was starting to gain ground on her though; that would just not do!
Try as she might, it continued to get farther and farther ahead. By now, she had completely lost track of where they were. Long gone were the snow fields where she had first saw the ribbon. The mountains were much lower now; there was even a human structure on them, not that she noticed it from this height, and certainly not with how distracted she was. At least she didn’t notice the structure till the ribbon darted downward and right towards it.
Zooming after it, she quickly gained on the ribbon. With a triumphant snap, she clasped her beak around the ribbon and began to slow her descent. She was quite pleased with herself as she landed on the structure. Turning back into her normal Mew form, she pulled the ribbon out of her mouth and, with a wide, joyous smile, she tied it to her tail. Once it was securely fastened, she turned invisible and floated across the roof, curious as to her present location. She didn’t know much about human structures, but it seemed large, at least to her. Whatever it was, it seemed impressive, and there was a large open gate in front! I wonder who lives here! She would have to see what or who would come out of it!

A Star in the Darkness
What was that? Mana pondered, with a yawn. She had been sleeping, quite soundly, invisibly perched in a tree, when a bright flash of light had awoken her. Rubbing her eyes lightly, she sat up. If she had wanted to, she could have probably gone right back to sleep; she was rather tired. Instead, though, she decided to investigate. It was her forest, after all. She should know what is happening within it! Stretching her arms out over her head, she rose to a standing position and looked around, trying to catch site of the light.
Where was it? It had been so bright, but she couldn’t seem to locate it. As she had been sound asleep when it had awoken her, she didn’t have a firm grasp of the location it had originated from. This won’t do. How come I can’t see it? It was so bright. Well, I guess I will just have to go looking for it. So, after waiting a few moments, for her eyes to adjust to the darkness, she leapt off the branch and slowly levitated downward, to just above ground level. “Hmm,” she stated to no one, since, as far as she knew, she was alone, “I think….maybe…… that way?” Even though she wasn’t talking to anyone, she still pointed off in the distance. She had no idea of where it had come from exactly, but, she thought that it was roughly in that direction. Maybe?
As she floated forward, she tried to figure out what could have caused that bright flash of light. She had no idea. She knew some moves could produce light, but still, to be that bright, it would have had to be practically next to her. And, while she didn’t know exactly where it had come from, she knew it hadn’t originated from right next to her. That much she was certain of. Figuring out what it was would just have to wait. Hopefully she would find it soon.
Suddenly, she realized something. It was quiet, way, way quiet; it was eerily quiet. It was as if everything had been silence. It was a good thing that she lived in nature and had never seen a movie, specifically a scary movie. If she had, she might be a tad frightened at the moment. As it was, though, she just took a mental note of it as odd; fright never entered the picture.
Maybe it was a legendary Pokémon! They sometimes had big, flashy moves! Maybe she could learn it?! Maybe she would be able to play with the Pokémon! She loved when she found someone new to play with! Like that Meowth, Yotta. She was glad she had met him. He was the first humanoid Pokémon she had ever met face to face. Maybe, now, she would meet more of them! She suddenly couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to be one. I mean, she could transform into one, if she wanted. What would it be like, though, to be one all the time? How did he even change in the first place? How did any of them change? It was something she had wondered since she had first spotted Alexis in her woods. She had seen several that had changed, but she had never witnessed the transformation, or the cause of it. Again, as she floated along, in search of the source of the light, her train of thought led her to Legendary Pokémon. Maybe a Legendary had caused the transformation! Still, which one, and how?
Lost as she had been in thought, she suddenly realized that she wasn’t quite sure where she was anymore. It might be her forest, but still, she was generally sleeping right now. She rarely saw it in the dark. Everything looked way different at night. Still, she wasn’t deterred. She would just have to add figuring out where she was to the list, right after finding the source of the bright light. She might be lost, but that was no cause to worry! Finding her way back, she might even find something interesting! You never knew what you might find while lost. Heck, she found Yotta and his dojo while chasing down a ribbon. At the time, she had no idea where she had gotten off to. Look how well that turned out! Who knows what I will run into next! Hey wait…. What’s that? Off in the distance, she saw a soft glow. That couldn’t be it? Could it? If it had been the source of the flash, it had dimmed greatly since then. What she saw now was far from blinding. It was a much gentler source of light. Whatever it was, she was excited to see it!
She hovered straight towards it, faster than before. When she finally reached the glow, and saw what it was, she exclaimed, “Wow! It’s a cute little star!” She rushed over to it, to get a closer look. It was very pretty. The glow of it was quite soothing. Suddenly, she felt even sleepier. It was like something was pulling her to sleep. With a yawn, she lay down next to the star and closed her eyes. Her last thought, before drifting to sleep, was that the star reminded her of a Jirachi.
