Anita let out a playful scoff back to Vivi, "Not a-one~" Though there was the tiniest hint of disappointment in her voice upon admitting this fact, on the whole she seemed resigned to her fate. Of course people in the past had claimed crushes, particularly after high school, but none of them ever stepped up to the plate. In school there had been "boyfriends" -- just a few -- but they never went anywhere beyond hand holding and childish pecks, nor did they last long. Suffice to say, the kisses brought on by Cruz's essence were the first kisses she had given in nearly five years.

If Cruz were aware of this fact, he might have fainted on the spot.

"I figure cards are less expensive than presents, so they're good for my wallet. I can also get a lot more of them than just a box or two of candy so I've got more ground and people to cover," Anita shrugged, smiling up at Shep who seemed a little embarrassed by his lack of card giving, "That way everyone can feel special and know they were thought about."

While normally the frei would be all ears on Anita's voice, he was far too interested in the answer to his question and and the amused giggling Vivi gave off. He watched curiously as she turned to grin mischievously at the man behind them and he heard a quiet comment from Shep as well as a soft reply from Anita.

"They're plotting something..." her own amused smile was easily heard in her voice.

The curious smile that had been spread across Cruz's face shifted and became more of a pout. He pursed his lips, pushing them out slightly while his brows lightly knit. Her explanation was one that he could understand, but wholly disagreed with. It was obvious from the start that Anita didn't enjoy his kisses to the lips and so he altered to the cheek and head to accommodate; thankfully this seemed to work well, though it was not nearly as filling. Her mother was a little more free with lip kisses but they were simple pecks, offering more energy but less taste and he did not have time to savor the experience.

It was difficult -- no, impossible -- for him to wrap his mind around the fact that some people just did not like to give kisses and the only response that burned at his throat to her explanation was "why"? That was such a bare bones retort, though, and he sneered at himself in silence until he was able to formulate something more worth while to say.

"Neeta does not kiss anyone," he mumbled quietly, "The Shep kisses some..." The concept of needing a few drinks was lost on young Cruz, causing him to tilt his head in thought. If all it took for Shepard to kiss was a closed door and some liquids, maybe it was the same for Anita. But then, why would she still refuse to kiss him and not merely request such accommodations? "But kisses -- kisses are good," Cruz stressed that word, 'good'. Though he managed to keep his voice a subtle whisper, it was clear he was becoming distressed. "Kisses best..." The issue of privacy was strange to him as well. It was not necessary to have privacy while humans ate, nor necessary to be alone when hugging or touching. Why was kissing any different?

His weight upon Vivi's shoulders increased the slightest bit as he became sullen, dejected. Was there no way for his Anita and Vivi's Shepard to enjoy this day of kisses and affection to its fullest? Even holding hands, it seemed, was difficult for Anita. When he did not initiate, she refused and in the time he had known her not once had she held anyone else's hand. Hugs, too, seemed difficult for her and depending on how close a person stood to her she seemed to become uncomfortable. They were so opposite in this regard, he and Anita, but she had taught him the importance of asking before kissing or touching for just that reason. Now at least he knew that she was not the only one who felt this way as Shepard seemed stingy with physical contact as well -- except... for their greeting.

As they approached the store front, Cruz's eyes narrowed and a sly, tooth filled grin creased his face. His words came out like honey, sweet and attractive, but with a hint of decadence. "Neeta not like kisses or touchings... but Neeta hugged the Shep."

"They are plotting something. An' trust me, it's never good when Vivi plots anything." Shepard slowly shook his head, watching the woman and Raevan as they put their heads together and whispered away. He tilted his head towards Anita. "She might be convincing him to join the dark side. Fair warning."

"Anita, she does not kiss anyone?" Vivi was whispering in return, her eyebrows lifting slightly. This seemed impossible somehow. Certainly, Anita had seemed uncomfortable when telling the story of how the mistletoe had spurred her to kiss random strangers, but surely that was only because they were strangers, no? Didn't she take lovers, have flings? She was a pretty girl, and seemed friendly... maybe she was religious? Or perhaps she hid her dalliances from Cruz? It was all as foreign to Vivi as it was to Cruz, and while he hung dejectedly on her in thought, she was silent in trying to find plausible explanation. Eventually, she murmured out a perplexed: "Neither the gentlemen nor les femmes, nobody?"

She turned toward Cruz for a response and was surprised to see the poor thing's despondent expression. Twisting a little, she kissed the Raevan on the corner of the mouth, where she could reach, smiling warmly. "Do not worry, petit, she will find herself someone she will enjoy kissing. I am sure!"

In a moment, though, Cruz brightened. His voice, too, became mellow and sweet, almost sensual. "Neeta not like kisses or touchings... but Neeta hugged the Shep."

Another laugh, this one soft and delighted, rippled from Vivi. She reached up a hand and touched Cruz's cheek, her dark eyes lit with a catlike curiosity and mischief. "Is that so, little cabbage? Do you think your lovely Anita might be a little sweet on the handsome Shepard?"

Anita scoffed in amusement at Shepard's assertion, giving him a wry look from the corner of her eye. She tilted her own head up, hands still tucked neatly in her pockets, "He better have a choice between a red or green lightsaber, then, 'cause I don't know which he'd like better." Shaking her head a bit, grinning, Anita couldn't help but ponder if this was something Vivi was well known for -- plotting. "Has she convinced anyone to join before?"

The French woman and Raevan's exchange was mostly filled with nods or shakes of his head while Vivi did the talking. Occasionally he would adjust his arms, nuzzle against her hair, or otherwise get more comfortable atop her shoulders, but physically the frei was quite content. It was the subject matter that bothered him so, lips pouting and eyes staring ahead with worry. If Vivi was so surprised at this news then surely it was not normal for humans not to kiss each other. Cruz had seen it done often on the streets, the television. What was so wrong with a quick, nourishing peck that made Anita so uncomfortable?

The term les femmes went over his head, only offering a subtle c**k of one brow before he pushed it out of his mind and concentrated on the next word after, "Nobody." Cruz allowed himself to lean forward, readying a sigh but his breath caught in his throat at the touch of warm lips to his mouth. His rune flared gratefully and a smile bloomed, arms lightly holding her closer in thanks. It was then the idea struck and, at Vivi's accompanying laughter, he grinned so toothily it may have intimidated the people at the check out counter when they entered. The door slid open automatically, catching the frei's attention momentarily but he was soon distracted by something much nicer.

At the touch of her hand, Cruz leaned his cheek against her skin to embrace her warm skin. Her terms of affection were adorable but he didn't fully understand them. Even so, he glanced back to his woman and Vivi's man as they followed them into the building. Anita shook the cold off her shoulders, braids lazily flopping about over her shoulders. She was smiling, laughing while speaking with Shepard despite the man's outwardly stoic demeanor. Was that what it meant to be sweet on? In that case, Anita was sweet on most everyone, wasn't she? No, that wouldn't have anything to do with kissing.

Cruz pursed his lips in confusion, turning back to Vivi with a curious glance. "What does it mean, to be sweet on?"

"I just need a couple," Anita assured Vivi and Shepard, stepping aside to examine the labels atop the aisles, "Shouldn't be too long. This is probably a silly way to spend your lunch break." Once the card aisle was found, she trotted eagerly to it, giving a quick glance over her shoulder to see if Shep or the Vivi-Cruz-creature would follow after.

"Naw, the better question is if she's ever failed," said Shepard with a faint snort, eyes on the green-red-black creature walking in front of them. For Cruz, kisser extraordinaire, to be allied with Vivi was a grim sort of thought. Shepard was already uncomfortable enough with Cruz just kissing her, but if Vivi was schooling him on how to pick up or hit on others... Shepard shook his head, forcibly rejecting the mental image of the pair at a nightclub, well-dressed and busy charming an unsuspecting bachelorette party."Vivi's -- y'could call her The Empress."

As they entered the card store, the warmth blooming over them, Vivi also sneaked a peek at the pair behind, her eyes still holding the same catlike expression as before. Perhaps Anita had not noticed the surreptitious glances from both Vivi and Cruz, but Shepard did, and as he walked after Anita toward the Valentine's Day cards, he slid a flat one back at his friend that clearly had only one meaning: Whatever you're thinking of doing, stop.

Vivi winked in return, to Shepard's dismay.

She waited until he had passed to address Cruz's question, a thoughtful little noise escaping her before she spoke.

"Ah~ to be sweet on..." Vivi considered. "It is that some people, like your Anita, they think a kiss as a precious thing, yes? That it should not be given lightly or easily. And then sometimes there are people they meet and think 'ah! It would be a sweet thing to give this person a kiss!' So they are sweet on them, yes?" She tilted her head toward Cruz, checking to see if her explanation made sense to the frei.

Shepard wandered down the card aisle, looking back momentarily at the couple they left behind and trying not to sigh. He turned his attention to the cards, plucking out one that had a bottle of hot sauce on it and the words 'You're a Hottie!' written across the front.

"S'tell me, when Cruz eats, usually -- you gotta just make sure yer minty fresh, or d'yeh help him find some willin' people?" Shepard said a tad distractedly, returning the card and pulling out another one, one with a drawing of a man and a muffin, with the caption 'STUD MUFFIN' inside.

Holding back a laugh at Shep's somewhat serious tone while discussing Vivi's flirtatious conspiracy was difficult for Anita. "Ohhh myyy," she drew the words out sarcastically, playful grin heard easily in her voice, "Then I guess he's Darth Smoocher. We better tell the rebels." Tucking her hands into the pockets of her hoody, Anita stepped up to the card aisle, unaware of the glances from Vivi and Cruz but also the look Shep had given their mutual ladyfriend in warning. Pale fingers plucked out one of the more colorful cards, showing a cartoon pitbull seated on a carpet, it's eyes huge, with a bunch of empty candy wrappers, overturned ice cream cartons. Inside, it read plainly "It's the PITS without you!"

Anita closed the card and took one of the accompanying envelopse when Shepard took another and asked his question. It caught her a little off guard, resulting in some fumbling en embarrassment in her words, but she managed to laugh through it and regain her comfort halfway through. "Oh, n-no, he's not allowed to kiss me on the lips. I mean, he snuck it once, when he was real young, but we got that straight quick." She lifted her head, looking around them to finally realize Vivi and Cruz hadn't followed them into the aisle. "If he's really hungry or excited, he sometimes forgets but usually he asks if it's okay first. With anyone. And he respects 'no'. So, yeah, usually it's just finding people who are willing."

At Shepard's warning glance, Cruz's brows knit worriedly. He shrank back slightly, hiding most of his face in Vivi's hair until he was out of sight in the next aisle. With Vivi's jovial tone unthreatened, he felt a bit more at ease, rather than thinking the look was a promise of things to come for reasons he couldn't comprehend. His smile returned, though calmer than before, and he listened intently to Vivi's luxurious voice. It was easy for him to understand her meaning but the difficulty arose from Cruz's disagreement with the idea itself. His face scrunched up as he tried to find the words to explain his stance.

"Mmm," he grumbled lightly, "Kisses are precious, yes." Cruz's lips pursed, brows seated flatly as he stared at the aisle ahead. "Is good to give precious things to everyone?" This was hard. It felt almost selfish to keep kisses to oneself, especially when you thought they were precious -- because they were, every single one! -- but he knew Anita was not decidedly selfish. From what he could gather, it just tended to make her uncomfortable, which he could respect but he'd never truly understand. "Do not know, Vivi," he sighed a bit dramatically, shoulders shrugging against her own before he snuggled closer, "Thank you for sharing precious kisses with me." The frei chuckled, burying his face against Vivi's neck and tickling it with dozens of quick, tiny smooches. His rune was practically blooming with light.

To this, Shepard could do nothing but snicker helplessly, trying to shake off his mild annoyance with Vivi and her busybody ways. Cruz was under good guidance with Anita-Wan-Kenobi, especially as he apparently never kissed her on the lips, and knew the value of a rejection without taking it too hard. So he probably had no reason to suspect that his friend would lead Cruz into the awful kiss-stealing, matchmaking, mooning-over-romantic-mumbo-jumbo dark side. Right? Right. Shepard reached forward and took out another card, one that started to croon as he opened it.

This kiss, this kiss--

Shepard shut the card again. "********' aye, what horrible person gives a singin' card to their girlfriend?"

From another aisle, Vivi giggled pleasantly, but because of Cruz's kisses rather than Shepard's words. Cruz's breath against her skin made it more sensitive, and his little kisses tickled her both literally and figuratively, and so she laughed. She reached her arm around to pet his hair gently.

"Any time, little one, that you should feel you need a kiss, you come and let me know! I will always give them most freely," she said. "It is for Shepard to keep his and for me to give mine -- just the order of things, perhaps!"
