That was certainly a relief! "I actually get offended a lot," Clio admitted. "But I find you a--heck of a lot less offensive than I do the rest of the world. I like that about you, if that doesn't sound weird or creepy. Talking with you feels more natural, less self-conscious. Calming." It wasn't entirely without thinking, though--she'd noticed the first time they met that her "soldier's mouth" wasn't exactly appreciated by the more mild-mannered Helena. When she could, she tried to curb her normally filthy tongue to in order to not set the witch off her ease. But really, it wasn't that difficult to stop swearing. It just took a little bit of extra effort, and resulted in a slight pause before every cuss.

"Sounds to me like science and magic have more in common than I'd thought," she mused. "Considering that modern science has a--deep-seated love for old languages like Greek and Latin. Mostly because all the first 'science texts' were written in Greek or Latin. I'll bet there were just as many frustrated witches and wizards in the eighteenth century who had to learn Greek and Latin as there were non-magic students having to learn the old languages." She sipped the last of her mocha. "Does that take a lot of time to learn? Waving hands, gestures, that sort of things? Or do they teach it in school?"

Clio snorted. "I've never met a normal noodle in all my life, but the ones I grew up with were probably even less normal than usual. We're all a little bit mad. Pwn's family's not as weird as the others I live with, to be honest."

Helena giggled a bit and smiled. "I enjoy talking with you as well. It's so liberating for me really. It's nice to talk with someone who actually wants to get to know me instead of knowing everything about me because of my mothers, and thinking that by being nice to me it will earn them some sort of favor. It's really quite tiresome." she said moving the spoon around her cup. She'd long ago lost interest in her coffee, and only kept it around as something to do with her hands at this point.

"Not really, well maybe...but the study of old dead languages is still a fundamental part of our schooling. While we don't have to speak them fluently, we do have to know how to pronounce words correctly. Anyone who has to cast audibly has to be correct in the saying of the spell as much as being correct in the gesture that is associated with the spell. The results of being incorrect, well...either nothing happens or something happens. Something usually not being all that good." she sighed and traced the pattern in the table cloth with a nail. "It can take a lifetime if you're so inclined to spend the rest of your life in study. Otherwise, yes, the basics are taught over seven years of schooling. And not just gestures, but how to make potions, how the movement of the heavens can impact spell casting, divination if you're so inclined, the cultivation of magical herbs and creatures, how to defend yourself against those things that intend you harm. The try to expose you to lots of things when you're young, and then allow you specialize a little bit in your last few years of schooling, before, if you decide to do so, go to University. Yes, there are institutions of higher learning even in the wizarding world." she said with a smile and to answer the question that she was sure Clio would ask next if she didn't volunteer the information.

She shook her head amused and shrugged. "Everyone is mad really. Just some more than others."

Clio made a face. "Oof. I'm glad my parents aren't famous--any of 'em. Well, I guess Dad has a bit of a reputation amongst his, not sure what you'd call 'em, peers, I guess. But no one's bothered me because of my heritage." She vaguely remembered being told at some point that Helena's mothers were very important figures in the wizarding world. She couldn't quite remember the details, though. "Your mothers are professors, right? Do they teach at one of those higher learning institutes?

"I'm glad I never had to learn another language," she added. "Computer code doesn't count. That's just written, I don't have to speak it. I think I'd be terrible at pronouncing other words. It's all English for this couch potato." She finished her mocha and put it aside. "So do you go to the university? Or is that water under the bridge?" Someone had told Clio once that asking someone what they did for a living was a rude thing to do. Personally, Clio had never found it offensive to be asked what she did for a living, so long as people didn't bother her if she told them to leave her alone.

"I've learned that there's no such thing as normal. I think I'd be freaked out by a normal person, actually. Like a Cthulhuvian monstrosity or something."

"It's such a pain to have famous parents. It really is." she said turning her cup. Her coffee had gone cold again and she didn't bother to reheat it again. She shook her head. "No, my mothers teach at the primary level. I believe Mother has turned down several posts for university teaching and some for only research work. She prefers the shaping of young minds instead." she said with a sigh.

"I was never very good at languages, in fact you could say I'm not very good at much of anything at all..." she looked down at the cold coffee in her cup. "I...I couldn't even qualify for advanced study without my mother's last name attached to mine. I did a few semesters and then quit. I just couldn't stand it anymore. It just wasn't for me."

"As for money...I live on a monthly stipend allotted to me by my mother. I would in muggle slang be what one could call a "trust fund baby." I don't have to work or do much of anything if I don't want too." she glanced up. "I hope that doesn't lower your opinion of me."
