"Uhm, thanks?" He wasn't really sure if Malo was mocking the rather decrepit area, but he smiled regardless. It certainly wasn't anything fancy and many of the paths weren't even paved, which made for mud galore during the rains. Most of the adults were out, working. Many were expanding on to Clubs, raising tents, taking others down, preparing for the festivities and parades that were to come. Dodger was well off somewhere and Tobias watched as the Rattata brothers pitched a smaller tent on their lonesome.
"Species? Y'mean like hows I'ma politoed? I wonner what kinda pokemon a wo-man is." He mused quietly, scratching his chin.
"You done lookin' at this trainwreck? Cos I really gotta be gettin' them treats." Darn it, he'd forgotten to go to a stall first! His mind was all discombobulated with this newcomer!

Malo had bobbed a bit further down and was taking in the sights. The big tents beckoned his curiosity and he longe to look inside, but there was still lots to see and do.
"Yeah. I'm done." Helanded back beside Toby and took his hand, that eery smile stretching back across his lips. "Let's go buy a mamoswine ear! All the ears!" His belly rumbled and he tugged gently at Toby's hand, back the way they'd come.
"So, do you like pranks?" It wouldn't be the first time this came up between them.

"I love pranks!" The boy eagerly replied as he hurried after his new bestest-best friend in the whole wide world. This was so much more fun than hanging around the adults and doing work, which was all they ever seemed to do. Well, they drank and smoked, too, but they wouldn't let him cos he wasn't old enough. There weren't a lot of toddlebits running around in his neck of Clubs and for a generally good reason.
He clung tight to his small amount of cash, eager to taste one of those delicious, sugary concoctions that guests usually indulged in. He absolutely loved sweets and was glad he had bumped into this little ghost boy today. Maybe they could play more often in the future!

Malo was about to go after him when there was a rustling of feathers and something grabbed him from behind. Preston, his eyes calm and tired, grabbed Malo by the back of his shirt. The ghost boy tried to pull forwards, but was held fast. "Awww, Pressy!" He whined, looking longingly at his friend. "We were gunna go prank someone!"
"It will have to wait." Preston mumbled. "You've been naughty today. Say goodbye to your friend now."

"Awwww, we was havin' fun, mister!" Toby frowned as the noctowl interrupted their little escapade. He shoved his hands, coins and all, into his pockets and gave the older man the most pathetic look he could muster. No doubt he would be told to hurry on home or something like that, but he didn't want to. He liked having a playmate.
"We's gonna play again sometime, right?" He didn't want to say goodbye yet. That meant going back to Dodger and the rest.

Preston sighed. He couldn't say no to that. "You two are going to be good friends. But Malo's a bit too young to be with you alone, okay?" He put Malo on the ground. "You can stay with us as long as we're here, politoed, but no more running off with Malo. I was worried about him."
Malo nodded and stood next to Preston. He'd let them be friends! He'd behave as long as he wasn't pulled away from his new froggy pal. Preston seemed to understand the concept.
"You two can talk and we'll organize a play date another time, okay? I have too many errands right now to keep an eye on you."
