As Claire's pokemon tensed, so too did Dith's. The man himself however looked sad rather than anything else. She was a member of Team Rocket. So was Jack. They might not be terrible people, but they did terrible things. He didn't want to hurt them - he didn't want to hurt anyone - but they couldn't be allowed to continue.
Appearing not to hear Claire Dith briefly scanned each pokemon present, admiring the quality of the images. So what were his options now? He couldn't fight her, his team was outnumbered and that Absol was already eyeing up Luna. Pick your fights; that was a lesson long ingrained into him. If you threw your life away in some gesture of courage or honour you didn't live to grow stronger and fight more battles and achieve what you wanted.
Quietly closing the 'dex Dith held it out to Claire, regarding her again with quiet sadness. Who was this young girl? She was perhaps not so much older than Rosie or Dani by the look of her, early twenties most likely. "Why did you join them?" He didn't expect an answer, but he had to ask. Where was her family? Were they members too? Had she been forced away from them? Run away? He hated there being faces and people in Team Rocket, so much harder when they were people. A soldier's mentality that, to make an enemy a faceless thing you tried not to think about as having a favourite food, friends, fears. He wasn't a soldier, he was a doctor. He didn't want to hurt anyone, but he could not allow his young friends to be hurt and what they were doing was just, was right, was worth fighting for. He wished it wasn't. He'd had his fill of fighting things a long long time ago. Why was peace and decency so much to ask of the world?

She expected him to look angry. She expected him to yell, or shout or insult her, call her a criminal or at least say something. Instead he simply stood there looking sad. Why? What was it to him if she was in Team Rocket that would make him react with sadness instead of anger? She didn't understand.
When it became clear he was going to check out all of the pokemon and not any sensitive information - he probably didn't even realize what he was holding - Claire knelt down just as Artemis came bounding back and dropped the tennis ball at her feet. She picked it up, inspected it, and when she deemed it not covered in slobber she slipped it back into her bag. The Growlithe received a head scratch before she was returned to her ball, and the Absol who was sizing up the slender Espeon was recalled as well. While she assumed Tortie wouldn't cause any problems on purpose, she didn't trust the aggressive dark-type to not take the initiative and jump any of his pokemon, or at the very least to threaten them.
With that done she straightened up again and waited patiently until he finished and held the 'dex out to her, but his question surprised her. At least he spoke, though. Her eyebrows rose slightly, briefly before they lowered again and she frowned thoughtfully. Why had she joined? Because she had defected from Team Galactic and if she didn't find somewhere to go, they would have found and executed her. What better place to hide from a criminal organization than another criminal organization? "It's.. a bit complicated," she admitted as she focused on him again, taking advantage of the moment to walk over - slowly - to take back her pokedex. Once her fingers slid over its smooth surface and she pulled it carefully from his hands, she returned to where Odette and Zeus still waited. "But I suppose I can say that.. I had to." It was, after all, mostly true. While she did have a choice - to join or not to join - her real options were limited. Join and be safe and protected, or don't join and try to survive alone. It was obvious which choice she made.
While she stood there looking at him, her eyes narrowed very slightly and her head inclined slightly. "You.. remind me a little of someone, actually." While he looked like that, anyway. "A dear friend of mine."

Dith smiled wanly, still feeling half as though he should be attacking her and half as though he should find a way to rescue her from the place she was stuck. She'd had to. He couldn't imagine what had made her feel that way but it couldn't be anything pleasant. "Do I?... Well I'm flattered." In a slightly odd way. Enemy side, but not feeling like an enemy. She seemed like a nice bright young woman; her pokemon loved her and she hadn't moved to eliminate him for 'knowing too much' or anything. Why had she joined? Why had Jack joined? Did it really matter? Had they not chosen their side?... Jack had chosen his side. Maybe this girl had been forced in one way or another but Jack.... He loved his old friend, but sometimes he was so ruthless. Team Rocket had probably just seemed like too good an opportunity to miss with all its technology, and who cared for the people he might harm? Not Jack White, icy as his Glaceon.
"What should I call you, by the way? I can't remember if I ever asked that or told you my name. It's Dimitry, if I didn't." Giving his name to the enemy? Why not, it wasn't as though he was inconspicuous and tough to identify or anything.

Dimitry. That was the name he'd given before, so at the very least he was consistent. Claire knew better than most that not everyone gave their real names upon first meeting. That said, she supposed it didn't really matter at this point. "Claire," she offered in response, "and I--"
Buzzzz.
She froze, eyebrows raising and lips parting very slightly as she looked down at the device in her hand, giving it a vaguely confused look before she pored over it, a suppressed hopefulness overtaking her countenance as she tapped a few times and paused to read something on the screen. The hopefulness became increasingly apparent until finally a smile broke out on her face. In one swift movement she stooped to grab her bag, shove the 'dex into it and sling it over her shoulder before she just as quickly and easily swept up onto Odette's back. "I've got to go," she said breathlessly, a barely suppressed excitement evident in her features. As Odette fanned out her wings and lowered her upper body in preparation for take-off, Zeus jumped up and settled himself in front of Claire before the large bird suddenly jumped into the air, and with a few flaps of her wings she gained altitude and sped off to the north east.

Dith shut his eyes and raised his arm to shield himself from the sudden cloud of dust. Once the initial flurry was passed he looked up to watch the girl - Claire - shoot away like an arrow from a bow. If anything, he considered as the Rocket shrank to a sped, he was more confused now than he had been before he'd known for certain what she was.
Dith, however, was a practical man at heart; as he considered he new sources of conflict and bemusement he sat down to eat his sandwich.
