Riley finally relaxed, though she looked absolutely sour at his answer. She laid back on the treasure, and nudged him with her elbow. Jericho. I love you. And I will always treasure you. But sometimes you can be so thick. She rolled her eyes and put her hands over her head, letting out a frustrated groan, before she flopped them back down and gave up, finally starting asking questions to sate her curiosity.
So let's talk about this. Because you know Shehk's coming. And you know that means it's time to think about this. So, for once, use me as my intended function, and talk to me about how you feel so you don't go hurting Shehk's feelings by, oh, I don't know, going silent.

Jericho could sense that bit of frustration. Leaning against his treasure a bit, he shifted his wings so that he was a little more comfortable.
"I .. guess this is a bad time to let you know that we have a ... second.. 'date' coming up? To kinda sort out the things she texted me about," he said somewhat sheepishly.

Riley lifted one eyebrow and shook her head. No, it's not a bad time. You're telling me before the date. That is, logically, the right time to tell me. You see now why your first offense has me ruffled. She reached up, pressed her hand down on his chest, and pushed - craning her head up to look at him was starting to hurt. And perhaps she was a little rough, just to get the last of her sour mood out.
So. Now that she was completely at ease, she stared up at the ceiling, and waited with obvious curiosity. She likes you. It was not a question. It was a statement that garnered a response.

Jericho let out a soft grunt as he was pushed down with a fair bit of force. Blinking, he glanced over at her when she began to speak again.
"Yes... it seems that way. Seeing how that's what she texted me."

And just like Jericho, he missed the point entirely.
Aaaaaaand. Have you thought about how you feel? Or should I just dig into your heart until I see for myself? One tentacle rose and started jabbing him playfully in the middle of his chest.

"Oh. Um. Yes I have thought about it but... I haven't really gotten any further. I kinda flip flopped from one answer to the other," he said with a sigh. Jericho paused for a moment, watching the tentacle prodding him in the chest.
"But. This date. It might help with that right?"

Interesting. Flip-flopping means that at some point, you considered it. Then I think that you are correct. Another date may be exactly what you need to figure out if you truly do have any feelings for her.
Riley fell silent for a moment, before a much more hesitant voice piped up. I have a confession to make. I did not come here to bother you about not telling me you were going on a date. I have an alternate motive. She sounded anxious, almost awkward about it.

Seeing how they agreed there, Jericho let out a breath. Well then that issue was cleared up for now. Or so he thought. Seeing how that apparently wasn't the real reason Riley was here. And this was worrying him now, seeing how she was a bit nervous currently.
"...Oh? And.. what's that?"

Riley turned to lay on her side, facing Jericho. Her face was pinched, and troubled. Do you think that people.. I mean, do you think that we are.. hmm. She had trouble wording her question, as the topic was delicate, and required extra thought.
I seem to hear.. quite a few people's opinions of our relationship are.. they are..
Her face pinched up further. I mean to say, that some may think we give off the impression that we are dating.

Jericho blinked at first, unsure what she was trying to say. That was, until she had actually said it. The blank stare he gave shifted to confusion pretty quickly once it got out.
"Wait. What? How is that... But.. What? Where do people... You're even engaged to Malodore! " he stammered out, baffled by this idea completely. Sure Riley was his best friend, and they were indeed very, very close. Hell, they were bonded even. But he didn't see her in a romantic light. So this was all rather confusing to him.

Jericho's reaction took the edge off of her anxiety, and she sighed long and deep, leaning her head against his shoulder. Then, a soft chuckle escaped, and her eyes rolled up to look at him. Oh, really now. It's not that far of a stretch. You're forgetting what it was like before you were bonded to another being. Our lives are connected by strings that.. most people cannot, or will not, understand. It only makes sense that they would try to place labels on it, based on what they know.
She reached out, and intertwined her hand with his. I was just.. worried, I suppose. I understand why other people would think things like that. I don't care about their opinions. I was just.. if you were.. I mean..
She already knew the answer to the question she'd come to ask - his reaction was enough. But, as it was still important to meet her goal, she let out a sharp sigh and got it over with, as embarrassing as it was. Jericho, you're not holding yourself back because of me, are you? That is to say, you are not, ah, not in love with me. Correct?

Thinking about that for a moment or so, Jericho could kind of see it now. Even so, it was a bit weird that people were jumping to that conclusion. It wasn't him that was about to get married to her and all. Shaking his head to himself, he squeezed her hand lightly, glad to see her relaxing now instead of getting all anxious and whatnot.
"What? No. I mean, as a friend, yes. And in a way kinda like a family too I guess. But no, I'm not in love with you. If you're worried about my lack of a girlfriend, I really just hadn't been looking," he chuckled.

I wasn't worried. I really wasn't. It's just.. first Lizzy came to me about it, and then Shehk, and I suddenly couldn't stand the idea of possibly hurting you. So it was important, you see. She pulled his arm up and around, and scooted underneath it, curling childishly. After that scare we had when we were first bonded, I just couldn't manage the idea of being something negative in your life.
She took another sharp breath, and let it go. But it's fine now. We have nothing to worry about. And the rest of the world can think what they like, but we know better.
She looked up at him, her face pinching slightly in a c**k-eyed glance. But, for the record, I do love you. Let's just get that out of the way now. I love you, very, very much.
She patted his stomach and put her head back where she couldn't see him.

Jericho hadn't been aware they had come to Riley about that sort of thing. Huh. Granted, in the case with Lizzy, he didn't find out she had been infatuated with him at all until after the fact. A part of him wondered if it would have been the same for Shehk if she hadn't said anything. .. Perhaps he should work on trying to pick up on these sorts of things..
"You're never something negative in my life, Riley. I hope that I'm never one for you either," he said before smiling to her, chuckling at her words, "Haha. And I love you too. You're the best friend I've ever had."
Relaxing himself onto the treasure, there was a pause for the moment. The mention of all of these things had him wondering a thing or two.
"So. When's the wedding?"

Now that the awkwardness was over, and they were back to their old selves again, Jericho's question threw Riley for a loop. Ah. I don't.. think we know, actually. We haven't discussed any marriage plans since it proposed. Her hand fingered the bracelet automatically, without thinking. My best guess was that we would wait until we graduate, and do it then. So.. a year?
And suddenly, realizing that 'wait until we graduate' and 'one year' were the same thing made Riley's heart thud faster. A year wasn't a very long time. She needed to discuss the actual possibility with Malodore, at the earliest possibility.
Why, were you hoping I would ask you to be my flower ghoul? And so the teasing began.
