Lance twitched slightly, as if he'd been caught in the act. Ever since the malfunction, he had more control over his thoughts and emotions than he had let on, until now. Not complete control, but some.
"I don't know the specifics," he said neutrally. "Ask Faleen, she designed it."

Catching the twitch, Izaya laughed. "Oh, don't worry. I won't tell. I've got nothing to gain from doing that," he quietly assured the ex-champion with a wink. "In fact, I'm glad you've managed to maintain so much of your humanity despite what you've been through. Good for you. It's admirable."
"Hmm..." he murmured, considering what Lance had suggested. "Well, I'll certainly be sure to do that. She's my partner, actually, so I see her pretty often. Though I doubt she trusts me as much as she did you," he teased.
"What I'm really curious about, though, is what you know of it. Surely they must have told you something about it to frighten you into submission before they suppressed your fear." He stuck his hands in his pockets. "You must really believe strongly in your cause to endure this much from Team Rocket. Again, admirable."

Lance sat there in silence as he considered this Rocket's words. He wasn't sure what to believe and what not to. He could have been sent there to mess with him even more, or it could just be mere idle curiosity. Whatever it was, he had little choice in answering the questions due to the chip's influence, but he didn't respond to the flattery.
"I was told it would regulate the chemicals in my brain, essentially controlling my emotions and making me more susceptible to suggestion. Taking away my free will. Beyond that, I only know what it does to me. It's like being a prisoner in your own body."

The informant's smile flickered. Being a prisoner in one's own body...no, not something he envied at all. No possible cause could have driven him to choose life as a mind-slave rather than as a free-willed human being. It reminded him of a legend of a certain, cursed sword that possessed anyone it cut. He resisted the urge to shudder.
"Well, clearly you have some degree of control over your emotions. Do you know how far that goes?" He walked a little ways, starting to pace. "I'm sure you've had quite a bit of time to experiment while locked up in here. Even if you can't express it outwardly while being watched."
Izaya paused. "Just what is it you stand for so strongly that you would allow yourself to become a mind-slave rather than submit to Team Rocket? Surely Agent Faleen must have felt awful that you would choose such a cause over herself as well as your free will."
His smile broadened slightly as he leaned over to whisper in Lance's ear. "You could have always pretended to give in and then made a break for it when they trusted you again."

"It... varies..." Lance said quietly. "It's hard to explain." One couldn't really understand unless they experienced it.
However, the Rocket's comments and next question made him go silent for several moments, as if his thought process had stalled out. The question had to to do with feelings and it wasn't something that was... easily accessible.
His facial features twitched slightly, and eventually he seemed to come out of it enough to shake his head. "I... I don't know."

Nakura observed the man's face carefully as he responded, taking in every slight change in his movements and features. He wondered if it was the man's own conscience that prevented him from answering or if it had something to do with the chip implanted. Perhaps he had even been lying with the statement of 'I don't know'. After all, Nakura was a Rocket. Why should Lance tell him anything if he could help himself?
"So you don't recall exactly how or why you got yourself into this mess, just that you are and it's bothersome. That must be a pain, ne?" With a small giggle, he seated himself casually beside Lance on the edge of the bed. "Still have any thoughts left to yourself? What you want to do, what you want to happen from here on out? Any hope for the future?" His crimson eyes glittered with interest as he studied gold ones.

"Hope..." Lance said softly, as if it were some foreign word. He'd had no inkling of hope since the chip had been planted in his head. Perhaps that was part of the reason, to squash any semblance of hope that the dragon master had. After a moment of staring at nothing, his head then fell into his hands, fingers gripping his red hair.
"I..." he started, but couldn't find the words. What did he want? There were no words for feelings that being restrained. He had no choice but retreat into himself slightly, to escape. "What I want doesn't matter," he said evenly, lifting his head again.

"...?"
The grunt watched quietly as Lance seemed to have a sort of inward struggle. Izaya blinked before patting the man cheerfully on the back. "Sure it does~! You're human, aren't you? The human mind is an amazing thing, you know," he told the red-head. "A human can overcome almost anything, if you set your mind to it."

"I am human," Lance confirmed in a toneless voice, but that's all he had to say to that. The spark that had been in his eyes earlier, seemed to be fading as the chip started taking over again. Izaya was starting to lose him.

"Hmm...that's funny you should say that," Izaya said, getting up. "Because you're not acting like one to me."
Making his way to the door, the informant sat back in front of the cell bars. "So you're the reason Faleen is the way she is. And she's the reason you're the way you are. What a shame...so much gone to waste." He sighed and held his chin in his hands.
"Sorry we couldn't have more of a stimulating conversation, Grunt Will. I would have thought that the pokemon master would have been more passionate about what he stood for and maybe lasted longer than this." He sighed disappointedly. "After all...you know what they say. 'He who stands for nothing falls for anything'."

Again there was a slight twitch of his eyebrow at the mention of Faleen, and Lance looked back up at Izaya.
"What do you mean, the way she is?"
This seemed to be something of interest to him as the man started coming around again.

"Hmm, I wonder," Nakura said, tapping his cheek. "She didn't really tell me much, but she seemed particularly shaken up by that incident when you nearly strangled her. I don't think it had anything to do with how close she had come to dying, though, weird as that sounds."
He kept his back to Lance, paying more attention to the sounds in the red-head's voice. "You're awfully interested in her, aren't you?"

The mentioning of that incident brought on a slightly pained look as Lance fell into silence again. He had never wanted to hurt her. He never wanted any of this. What he wanted though, was irrelevant. He wanted to leave this place, and go home.
"She was my friend," he said, repeating his words from before.

"Oh, is that so? Because I thought I heard her mention one time that you were more than that to her." He took out his flick blade and pretended to stare at it, but in reality he used it as a mirror to reflect Lance's image at him. "Maybe if you got out of here, you could ask her yourself. Or even maybe the next time she visits you."

Lance's jaw tightened slightly. "No, I won't do that." Said with a surprising amount of resolve. Gold eyes turned to stare at Izaya's back with a determined expression.
"I will never join Team Rocket of my own will. Nor will I encourage anything further between us. She chose her path, and I chose mine. Its better this way."
