The question had come up a lot. Robert put down everything he was working on, and turned to give Ariane his full attention - it was an important question, after all. And a good one. "Yeah. A lot of people ask me that. It's uh.. well, it's pretty simple, actually. Two reasons." His lips lifted in a soft smile. "First off, when we're out there, I like being useful. And.. I'm not completely ******** useless when I'm healing. So, there's that. And.." He grinned sheepishly, and rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm pretty damn loyal to these mother ********, at this point. I love them all, every a*****e. And I would never leave Clarice. I'd rather die, and leave her." The intensity in his voice was heavy. But when he was done explaining, he lifted a beaker, and tilted it as if he was cheering. "So, this is home now. And I gotta get better at this part of it, too." Then he lifted the beaker to his lips to drink.. ..and realized a moment before the liquid touched him, that this was not a drink.

"I dunno. The good doctor seems like a pretty easy person to leave," She chuckled, grinning as she tapped a finger against her cheek, "Although I can understand loyalty to Clarice." The Life assistant was probably one of the few woman on the island Ariane knew personally, and respected, even if it had been a long time since they had spoken, "Well then, I look forward to having my a** saved by you one day."
She had actually raised a hand in a 'wait' gesture the moment she saw where the beaker was headed; however, since he seemed to have realized that for himself, she settled for laughing at him instead.
"Come on, let me get you something to drink at the cafeteria," She shook her head, "As questionable as some of the drinks there are, at least they won't kill you. Probably."

Robert put down the beaker, and gave Ariane a sheepish glance. "Yeah. Probably right. Okay, it's a date. But I'm not putting out," He admonished with a waggle of his finger, while he took off his protective gear. "So don't try nothin' funny with me. I'm savin' myself." He was, of course, joking, but he was playing it completely straight. So when he had his gear off, and tucked his shirt back into his pants, he lifted his head up high and headed for the door, holding it open for her. "I'm a lady, after all." The ******** was even - were there fumes loose in the air?

"Sure, because I'm convinced that you're a virgin," She replied, taking off her goggles as well, putting them on top of the table before following after Robert. At the door, she paused, sliding in front of him to hold the door, using her hip to try to bump him away from it, "I'm a gentleman, don't worry. My hand just has a mind of its own... Here, ladies first."
Probably fumes.

"Well I didn't say I was a - HEY!" He tumbled a step forward when she bumped him away from the door, and kept moving, head high, trying to regain his dignity as he did so. "Well fine. If you're gonna be such a gentleman about it, you can just.. open all the doors for me. Yeah." He smiled dopily. "That'll be kind of nice for once." This conversation was surreal.

"Sure, Roberta," Ariane used a deeper voice this time, squaring her shoulders as she walked out after the life hunter, taking big steps in order to get in front of him... Just to open and hold doors for him, all the way out of the building, "Anything for a pretty lady." She winked.
And this would continue until Robert stopped.
