So that really was all she knew. Candace stayed quiet until Clerise said division leaders..perished? What didn't make sense. What about H and Caelius? Had they not...been leaders at the time? Were they even hunters? No, they had to be. That made no sense. The Mist leader was the only surviving leader? "So..H and Caelius weren't the leaders...wait--did you say Time's Square? Was this on New Year's Eve?!" Her eyes were wide. She'd seen them! The weird things! And the man in black was he..? She couldn't remember his face. ********. There was blood all over him but he'd said it hadn't been his blood. Had it been a hunter's? A leader's? And the white coated figures...
"I...I think.." Candace looked toward the Life labs. Maybe she was wrong. It was entirely possible. "So they're attempting it again. Okay...what else is there to know, really? It sounds like we have all the information we can get."

"Don't worry about it. I don't want you to get caught poking into things any more than you want to," Jordan said, and patted Clerise's back. At the admission that her source was also secondhand, though, he frowned a little; he'd hoped to find out where the information originated from. "Do you know where they found that out?" he asked. "I'm trying to track down as much from primary sources as I can. Word of mouth isn't necessarily wrong, but passing it along verbally can introduce errors."
Times Square - he rocked back on his heels slightly. "It was New Year's Eve," he said. "I saw- " He hadn't meant to say that; he snapped his mouth shut, the old memory of death rising vivid in his mind's eye again.

"No one said New Year's Eve but-- you...were there too? On that night?" Clerise blinked, brows furrowing. "I was there on vacation that whole week, as a thank you from my dad." For not being such a little s**t. For once.
Then Jordan confirmed NYE and...well.
That was strange.
Perhaps at a later time. Clerise thought hard about what Rep had told her, biting her lip.
"They said there was some disky thing in a flashlight. It led to a site that needed a password, that's where all this s**t came from."
She whistled, long and low.
"I just can't believe that they sent two hundred hunters and TWO came back. That's a lot of ******** casualties to not just be okay with, but to EXPECT."

"I was in Times Square that night.." Candace said quietly, ruffling her own hair. "It was a birthday and Christmas present. I had fun up until the actual ball drop time." That was when she'd seen things.
Candace suddenly looked up. "Really? Where is it now?" A disky thing in a flashlight? From...from Sandy? Was it her flashlight? She hoped someone had it! She wanted to see for herself! "It is a lot of casualties. They're sending less than that this time, but still well into the hundreds. I heard a couple senior Hunters talking about it." But it was all second-hand eavesdropping...

"So was I," Jordan put in, frowning. "And Before. He and I actually met each other then. I remembered his name. Hell of a coincidence."
"It's alarming," he said. "The secrecy only makes it more alarming, and the security leaks suggest internal conflict. I don't doubt the mission will go ahead regardless. If it really is a bid to prevent the Apocalypse, it'll be the highest priority on the board. That may be why the death count was so high, expected to be so high, and it was carried out anyway; in the overall scheme of things, what are a couple of hundred deaths in comparison to preventing the end of human civilization?"
