Eve's eyes scanned ahead as she continued to think back. When had she given her wallet to Xen? She was almost POSITIVE that she'd had it just a little while ago... she slowly turned her eyes sidelong towards her constant travel companion, lifting her brow ever so slightly. What was he up to this time. She gave a sigh, instead turning her eyes to the streets up ahead as they passed through the city proper.

Eve had to admit, even if her home of Zelgoddess was a breathtaking city of white, vanguard had a different charm all it's own. While Zelgoddess seemed...peaceful and serene, this place was chaotic, but in a good way. It felt lively here, as though all the people as they rushed about their routines were adding to place in some small way, compounding into a thriving metropolis.

"Say," Eve turned to Xenon, a somewhat thoughtful look on her face. "do you think maybe...we could stay here for a few days." she turned her head, admiring the place as they passed nearer the western quarters, and the corresponding gate where Strahta's office was located.

"Oh?" Xenon seemed to give a rather bemused smile at her innocent nature. "Do you care for it so much?"

Eve gave a laugh, looking back to her friend. "I don't see how anyone couldn't." she gestured with a tilt of her head towards the the surrounding people as they passed, his smile still wide. "These people are all from different countries, but here they are working together side by side. It's...I don't know...it's beautiful to see."

Xenon gave a grinning shrug at her naivete, but couldn't really bring himself to contradict her either. "As you say." he agreed, he looking ahead.

The finally came to a large square where it seemed that a...ahem, GREAT battle was taking place. Eve chuckled. a group of children were at play here, from all three nations none the less, and they seemed to be laughing play fighting to their hearts content. There even seemed be a kind looking young man joining in on the fun, the children laughing all around him.

"Aww!" Eve seemed to be feeling nostalgic. "Remember when we used to be like that Xen?"

Xenon turned away looking unimpressed. "Yes. You beat me up and dragged me off on ridiculous adventures, as I recall."

Eve laughed at his expense. "Aw come on! You know you always had fun."

Xenon rolled his eyes. "If you call getting scolded by your mother for shirking my duties fun."

Eve merely continued to laugh. "Ah! Remember that time you feel down into that mud puddle and-" Xenon's eyes twitched slightly at this memory, and as though having had enough, gave the girl a single poke to the head. As though this had caused some sort of deeply rooted natural reaction, the girl immediately spouted out the word. "-Chero!" Eve immediately turned red faced. "Ah! I told you not to do that!" Eve complained, Xenon jumping slightly out of the girl's reach.

"I'm terribly sorry." Xenon said smugly. "What was that?" with the end of his staff he prodded the girl once more in the head.

"Chero! AH! Cut it out!"

Xenon chuckled loudly as this time he got caught by the girl's lunge, being immediately pulled into a headlock by the far stronger female.

"Idiot!" Eve complained. "It's your fault that happens in the first place!"

Xenon was laughing even as the girl seemed to be squeezing the air out of him. "Hn hn hn, so sorry. I just can't resist."

Eve's brow twitched in annoyance "Why yooouu!" it then came to her notice that a few of the kids around them were now watching them with curiosity. Eve blinked looking suddenly blank faced with innocence. "Um..." she began.

"Are you two playing too?"

"Why did you say "chero" when he poked your head?"

"Why are you letting a girl beat you up like that?"

"Is he your booooyfriend?"

Xenon began snickering as Eve rolled her eyes, releasing the boy and crossing her arms while still giving him an almost childish glare. "No, we're just friends."

"My mom says that whenever two people say that they're obviously lying!"

"Then why were you hugging him huuuh?"

"Yeah!"

"Yeah!" Eve wouldn;t have been nearly annoyed by this if the last "yeah" hadn;t come from Xenon, who was looking highly bemused by the whole situation.

"And you call me immature." Eve complained, causing Xenon to merely chuckle all the harder at her expense. She sighed, smiling. "Xenon and I really are just friends. The reason I was putting him in a choke hold is because he's an idiot!"

"Oooh!"

"That make sense!"

"Why does that make sense? Girl's are weird."

Xenon gave a light shrug. "Honestly... I get all the bad the press. I suppose it's my destiny." he chuckled, but just as he did so, a little girl ran into his leg in her excitement, causing her to fall down. Xenon looked surprised by the event, looking down at said girl just as she looked up at him. She gave a tiny little sniff, a small glob of a tear forming in her eye.

The effect was almost instantaneous. All Xenon's bravado seemed gone in less then a moment as he immediately became hysteric. "AH! It's okay! It's okay! You don't have to cry! Look! Look at this!" he slammed his hands together, saying a few choice word's, before spreading them and holding a bright ball of light between, strange iridescent strands of blue light flowing off it. "Magic! See! Pretty! Don't cry!"

The girl had actually stopped crying, and was instead reaching out to touch the strange blue magic light with wonder, her touch causing it to turn pink, causing her to jump and giggle, getting back to her feet as a few other children began to gather around him.

Eve suddenly gave a warm smile, folding her arms as she said to one of the children still near her. "Yeah...he's in idiot...but...he's a good idiot." she always enjoyed when she saw clear signs that the rather awkward boy which her younger exuberant self dragged around behind her was still more then present in the current far more smooth talking Xenon of the present. Then again, she realized...he'd probably always been like that...but her younger self had probably just tuned out most of what he was saying. Back then he'd just been her Prince in distress to rescue and protect after all... she gave a laugh.

(((Would have posted sooner, but I didn't check the forum and thought you hadn't replied. xd Woops! Your post made me laugh out loud. "Yeah!" And hey, sparkle sparkle sparkle.)))

Akakios tore his eyes away from the battle as the woman was holding someone in a choke hold. He'd place bets the woman was another from Seirun, and the young sorceress of Seirun must have thought so too. Her eyes were torn away from her own war, the other knight running away as the sorceress light dangled at her fingertips. Watching the two play with one another she gave a cheer to the girl, stepping forward as she heard the two accuse each other of courtship.

Akakios kneeled down within the dispersing war, some children being torn back to their parents as they began to depart the trading city. "I have fought bravely, in the name of Seirun. But, my duties have come to an end."

Standing as she gave a nod to the back of the young seiruns girl's head. "It's been an honor."

He turned back to the two as he saw the boy make a bit of magic to stop the child from crying. Folding ihs arms across his chest as he watched the child's worries become forgotten. He stepped over the sword that lied on the ground, no doubt for another child to soon grasp and fight with.

Now, here's something rather strange. Akakios was a kind man, this much is true, but he wasn't one to openly invite himself to others. At least not outside the castle, no one knew the reason why, but it was true. And if you asked him years from now he wouldn't be able to tell you. Something that drew him nearer the two, a need to introduce himself.

Fate some will say, confusion from the troubled events behind him and he wished to share the joy of these two. Mere chance, instinct. No one was sure, but one thing was sure, Akakios was the first to introduce himself that fateful day.

His shoulders rose and tilted his head back to let out a loud laugh into the heavens. A few children joining in the laugh, a couple of tears falling down Akakios's cheeks. Shaking his head, the sigh of a laugh remaining as he wiped a tear from his face. Bringing a white gloved hand to wrap over his stomach while he gave a lengthy bow to the two. "A pleasure to come across such wonderous souls. My name is Akakios."

It is said that the world is big. Very Big. Vastly, hugely, big.

Now what with the world being very big and all, the odds through pure chance, not taking into account personal motivation or common backgrounds, of two specific people meeting on it without the guidance of some greater power were summed up to the number of 10 to the power 231,293 against 1.

Which, by a staggering coincidence, was the street name (23) and corresponding address (1293) of a small artist's flat in the Wendelian capital of Sothia Sil, where Xenon Zurander once visited and had tea with an artist that became a very good friend of his, who also happened to be working on a portrait of the Burnstein royal family at the time.

Though Xenon Zurander himself was not aware of these odds, nor the rather remarkable happenstance surrounding their similarity to his good friend Pascal's address, he DID think there was something remarkably familiar about this young man before them...if only he could place it...

Had fate a face, and a palm in which to put it, it most certainly would have done for the squandering of the opportunity it had granted Xenon for recognizing the young man before him, but, such was the way of the world.

"Hello." Eve normally would have started with more polite greeting, similar in temper and poise to a non- seiruninan gentleman greeting a lady of noble birth. To one of Eve's position and upbringing, the young man before her seemed to be the very image of pure hearted prince in distress from the story books her father used to read to her, needing to be rescued from a dragon guarded tower by a brave and noble princess. Though, as she had to keep reminding herself, treating the man as one might in Seirun might be insulting now she'd left her borders. She HAD to battle her preconceptions. As such she merely settled one a more casual greeting, smiling and nodding.

Xenon meanwhile followed suit, clapping his hands together and allowing the small orb of light to scatter into what seemed to several smaller balls of transient light, which scattered off over the "battlefield" causing the children around him to giggle and gasp, scurrying after them as they dispersed. Xenon looked content as he returned to his full height from his crouch. "You flatter us sir." He said with his usual strong smile. "I assure you I am nothing of the kind. You need ask no further my companion here." he seemed to have an ironic grin on his face all the while. "She'll attest to no end towards the nefarious nature of my character."

Eve rolled her eyes in a good natured humor. "Don't tempt me." she gave a wider smile at Akakios. "Don't pay him too much attention. He's a much better person then he likes to think."

"Slander and lies." Xenon jested resting his staff against his shoulder.

Eve didn't seem to hear him, keeping up her earnest smile. "Oh, but forgive my manners. You've introduced yourself and I've kept you waiting. I'm Eve Prier. Former Priestess candidate of the order of Portrine..." she gave a slightly embarrassed smile. "I guess it's just Eve Prier now."

"Well with such an well intentioned approach, I suppose I would indeed be a poor sport to repay it with silence. Xenon Zurander, Mister Akakios." He had to admit he was slightly curious as to why this man was here. His speech pattern...probably nobility of some kind, but he might have just been a tradesman of Galia, they were well spoken enough, and wealthy for the most part, to put most of the nobility of the world to shame.

He supposed it wouldn't have struck his attention so if they hadn't just met Vice-Admiral Ozwell himself. It was more then merely the sense that he'd seen this person before...it was the inkling...more, the suspicion, Xenon had that something was going on in this city. Things that would have barely caught his notice now stuck out at him...everything seemingly a piece to a puzzle far to large and complex for him to yet grasp in it's entirety. But there was a odd feeling as he greeted this person. A resonance in the mana only a sorcerer attuned to it's more technical points would really take notice of.

There was a connection between the three of them. Another piece in this puzzle that Xenon could yet fully grasp...

"You seem like you've been through quite the battle, Sir Akakios." Eve joked, giving a slight laugh at the man's ruffled appearance after playing with the children, even if somehow, he still managed to appear completely in his element. "I hope you weren't gravely injured." she adapted a more curious expression as she looked around the circle. "Are you here alone?" surely a young man of his stature should not have been walking about without protection...oh! She was doing it again wasn't she? "Ah," she amended. "Not that you need people to protect you...not that you can't look after yourself... I just meant..." she laughed slightly awkwardly before giving a more honest sigh and a smile. "I am sorry... I am still growing accustomed to walking beyond my nations borders..."

(((I swear, writing with your characters is so much fun, there has to be a law against it.)))

He gave nods to the two as they introduced themselves. His gaze turning to the children as they followed the orbs of light. A soft smile on his face as the giggles of delight from children filled the air. Giving a laugh as Xenon accused Eve of titling him with Nefarious nature. And a just as loud chuckle, a bit of a gruff wheeze attached as he watched the two. The ease of ones who have lived with each other for years, siblings perhaps? They obviously weren't courting from what they told the children, and hearing that the girl was a princess...wait was? How strange. It was no secret the women of Seirun were highly revered, and a princess? Well that was an honor that every woman of their nature dreamed for. He only gave a smile, and his brows furrowed in the slightest of apologetic looks. Shaking away the thought as she joked of him being gravely injured.

His head tilted up slightly, to show some sort of new focused attention. Laughing at her change of topic, pulling slightly at his sleeves and tossing a fray hair to join with the others that held nicely behind his head. "Ahh, the injuries are nothing for the sake of Seirun."

Laughing slightly at his own mention of this and gave a nod, turning to a more realistic nature. "It was a fine moment of time to enjoy in the simple childhood pleasures."

And she spoke of his nature of being alone, and his shoulders rose and dropped in silent amusement, offering a kind face to her struggles. He gave his famous smile, though it was of high doubts that it would cause such a strong woman of Seirun to melt as it caused the women of Bandore to. He rose his shoulders and a laugh let out over the dispersing children, all thoughts of playing war faded. "Fair lady of Seirun, you needn't be so concerned of offending me. I have had many affair with many from your country, and a beautiful nation it is as well if you don't mind my saying."

He shook his head at her question as his charming smile remained on his face. "I have arrived here on my own." His eyes glanced over the shouts of bartering, children giggling as they begged the children they knew to be sorcerers and sorceresses(Just had spell check, holy crap, I spelled that right!) to make the same light that "funny man" made. "To start a new adventure perhaps?"

He looked back to the two and his eyebrows raised as his shoulders raised and dropped them in an unknowing shrug. "For now it's one simple task after another."

(( xd Eve was a candidate to be a priestess, not a princess. I don't think I explained this well enough. Though she read books in Seirun that had fairytales that involved stereo typical prince's saving the princess in distress, the roles were reversed to reflect Seirun sympathies, with the women being the brave heroes and the Men being the one's weak and awaiting rescue. emotion_awesome When she was younger she always pretended she was a brave princess out battling evil, Xenon playing the role (often by coercion) of her prince to be rescued from danger. This adventurous nature was against her intended fate to be a priestess of the goddess however, and her mother often got angry. Rather than explain further...I'mma gonna have a flash back! emotion_yatta ))

"For now it's one simple task after another..."

These words, these simple words, set loose a flood of memories for Eve. The same words she had heard so long ago.

************************Flashback******************************

Eve sat staring out her window, listening to her father's warm and calming voice. Whenever her mother scolded her for wasting time on frivolous things, she would always come to him. He would tell her it was alright and pat her head, but most importantly, he would read her stories...

Stories were here favorite thing in all the world. Stories of brave knights striking out against evil, brave Women of strength and courage that were never afraid of anything and always stood up to do the right thing... Stories of happily ever afters and distant lands full of adventure. She wanted to go out and see the world that was unfolded by these spoken words...wanted to wield a weapon rather than spend all her day studying scripture...

She didn't want to be priestess... but she would never come out and say this to her mother. Surely she could serve the goddess just as well by, rather then wasting her time learning sorcery in Portrine's name, or banging line after line of holy word into her memory, something she repeatedly and consistently failed at, by taking up arms and becoming a soldier instead. Her father was teaching her in secret, how to fight, how to post and parry...how to strike. She felt stronger every day... but...

"Papa...?"

"Hm?" Her father looked up from the book, his ever soft smile on his face.

"Did...Xen get in trouble because of me?"

Her father gave a chuckling smile. "Xenon is a strong lad. He'll be fine. You know as well as I do that he'd take worse then an extra load of chores to protect our little training sessions. And I came up with a fine enough excuse as well. He won't get into trouble."

Eve looked slightly confused. "But...but Xen's not strong at all! He can barely even swing a club when we play! He better be glad he's a boy and just needs to worry about getting rescued..."

Her father laughed. "Ahahaha, ahhh my darling daughter. You're friend has a very different kind of strength. A strength which comes from here." he pointed to where Eve's heart beat within her chest. "He may not seem like it, but he's made of sterner stuff then I thought possible for someone his age. When I first saw that boy there along the roadside...I swore I was looking into eyes far older then mine."

"Huh?" Eve tilted her head, confused.

Again her father laughed. "Don't you worry about it. Just know that you've found a good friend in that one, and that even though I've little doubt he's been through a lot, he's fond of you. Any friend that would stand up to your mother on your behalf, expecting nothing in return, is worth keeping a hold on."

Eve broke into a wide smile. "I know!" she stood up from her seat by the window, suddenly looking wildly determined. "I'll be just like the Knight from the story and rescue him from the evil queen who's going to force him to marry her eeevil and wicked daughter who's also the ruthless black knight!" she held aloft her wooden practice club as though she might wage into battle.

Her father burst into laughter again. "Ahaha, is that so? But if you go exactly as the story goes you'd have to marry the lowly serving boy at the end of the story...are you sure you'd be fine with that?" he gave her a teasing nudge.

"W-well." Eve stuttered, puffing out her chest in what she seemed to think was a majestic manner, but looking down and away with a scarlet face. "I...uh...maybe...
I guess."

"And since the evil queen is also your mother," her father said with another nudge. "wouldn't that make YOU the evil princess taking the poor helpless serving boy as your husband?"

"Ahh! Papa! You're ruining the story!" she waved her club at him with a puffed up face of annoyance, her father laughing at her ever harder all the while.

"Hm hm hm, I'm sorry, my brave little knight." he placed a hand on her head and Eve suddenly gave a happy smile, looking up at the man lovingly. "Your mother has...a lot of pressure on her. She doesn't mean to force this upon you, believe me. A time will come when you can rush in and save Xenon and tell your mother that you don't want the same future she intends for you..." he gave a long, complicated sigh, a faraway look in his eyes. "But...not now." He returned his gaze to her with smile. "For now I will keep teaching you everything I know. And I'm sure that Xen will be more then happy to keep your secret. Just focus on what we can do right now..."

Eve remembered his wide smile...

"For now it's one simple task after another..."

************************end******************************

Eve smiled at these words, hearing them now, from this kind looking young man. "I suppose that's the only way anyone can do anything." Eve said with a bright smile.

"Indeed." Xenon affirmed with a grin. "Though starting a new adventure... I suppose in that manner you're rather similar to ourselves...or," he gave a slightly bemused sidelong glance to his friend. "Like Eve. I'm not really the adventurous type, myself. I'm merely here on the grounds that my lady needed my services."

Eve gave a skeptical chuckle. "Oh really? I could have sworn I already released you from your vow of servitude. In fact since mother did as well, that's TWICE it's been renounced."

Xenon adjusted his glasses carelessly. "Oh but a poor little serving boy such as I could never hope to make it alone. I need a big strong woman to look after me. I simply couldn't abandon my duties for my own sake." he stated in an airy humored tone. "I need my lady to guide me through this harsh cold world..."

Eve gave an unconvinced snort, looking to Akakios. "I find it helps if you only listen to about half of what he says." she assured as though she was a seasoned expert at dealing with the odd Sorcerer.

"That would explain why I can say things behind your back without you taking notice..." Xenon said in a self musing tone, though he was looking at her with a sharp teasing smile.

"W-what?" Eve looked at him suddenly innocently oblivious.

"Oh nothing, nothing!" Xenon said looking away and waving his hand dismissively with a large cheeky grin on his face.

Eve huffed slightly, giving a slight sigh before looking back to Akakios with a smile. "Sorry... he has a really weird sense of humor...." she gave her friend a reprimanding look. "Anyway," her cheer returning. "He's right that you don't sound so different from us. We're starting off on a journey of our own. Even if SOME people keep trying to talk me out of it."

Xenon gave a shrug. "I'm just saying, first ship out of Strahta, coconut drinks on the beaches of Solatta Rei within the month. It sounds a lot better to me then traipsing about the lands looking to fulfill some sort of ego driven delusions of heroism."

Eve rolled her eyes, shirking off these remarks. Deep down, whatever Xen's odd sense of humor made him say...she knew how he really felt. She knew that the only reason he was here was because they were friends.

She'd known for a long time.

************************Flashback******************************

"Lady Prier..." The young servant boy looked at his lady with a steel resolve in his eyes, the sound of fire and chaos all around them as the attack on the estate continued. "I swear on my life...that even if this world itself turns on you, if the goddess herself declares you her enemy, I will stand by you!"

It was only then, that Eve truly understood what her father had meant...that she truly understood her friend had a very different kind of strength. It wasn't in goodness of heart...nor it wasn't strength at arms. Her best friends strength lay in his willingness to cast aside any care for whether or not what he was doing was right by the general consensus. Any regard for the morals of others. His faith in his own heart was so strong, he would follow it to the ends of the earth...and then, if it so bade, destroy the earth itself.

It didn't matter to him that the churches laws allowed this attack, it didn't matter that this action had been sanctioned by her mother's rival for the position as the Maiden of light. Nor even did it matter the slightest if this secret war was not supposed to be considered personal, or even interfered with. Xenon Zurander would follow his own convictions even if it meant he became the purest of evil...protect his own heart's will even if it meant he became the enemy of the world. It was a terrible strength, a chilling strength. One that could be the trait of the bravest of heroes, or the most terrifying of villains. And that strength, that heart he would follow into battle against all that existed...

It cared for her. All those times that Xenon jokingly told her she was his only friend no longer seemed like jokes. All those times his distant smiles while she just talked and he listened no longer seemed like he just wasn't paying attention. She was Xenon Zurander's only friend, and by all the world, she knew that this night, no one was going to pass through that doorway...that no one was going to hurt her as they had hurt her father. If Xenon had to reveal his secret and use his magic... he would do so.

For the first time since she'd first reached out her hand to the strange serving boy...Eve Prier finally understood.

That dark night two children had stood against five armed assassins... and in the morning, the assassins...were no more.

((My apologies, I should pay attention more, but, I enjoyed the flashback thoroughly. Ah well, all's well that ends well.))

Akakios watched the two and gave his own snicker to Xen's behind her back comment. The two constantly retorting to one another was comedic, and also inviting. He wished to give a retort of his own but none came to mind, instead he merely tossed his head back in loud laughter, in delight response to their retorts.

His head falling back to face the two and wiping away a smiling tear from his eye, a cheery voice carrying between the three of them. "Dear fellows, the sun grows tiresome, may I offer you lads a pint?"

Eve seemed pleasantly surprised by the invitation. "Oh, sure." she looked over to Xen. "We were going to try and find the Strahtan's official office, but it's not like we're in a hurry. What do you think Xen?"

Xenon seemed receptive to the idea. Giving a light tap of his staff upon his shoulder as he thought it over. "I don't see why not." he said in usual smiling manner. He took on a more curious expression however, as his eyes traced to a couple of guards who were whispering to another not to far away. Their eyes were lingering on Xenon. After a moment, just a moment, one shook their head, the best Xen was able to pick up from his response being "too young", before the two moved off in another direction.

"Xen?" Eve followed her friends suddenly far off gaze. "What is it?"

Xenon seemed to adapt a slightly pensive reserve. "How odd..." he muttered, more to himself.

Eve sighed. "Xen, you're doing it again."

Xenon returned to smiling. "Oh, I beg your pardon. I'm sure it's nothing. We would be glad to join you for a drink." his eyes drifted off towards where the guards had disappeared to, his smile faltering slightly into a more intense regard. There was most certainly something strange going on... it was starting to itch at his keen sense of paranoia now.

The Soldiers of Strahta, if not all three nations, were...looking, for something. It was the only explanation he could come to that made sense of their behavior. Something important, too, given the Vice Admiral himself's presence. Perhaps even more specifically...someone. Given their odd attention to him, even in regards to Ozwell's remark to his men before leaving, Xenon would guess that someone of his general description was the target of this search. General description, but different enough that upon examining him for any length told them that Xen himself wasn't the one they were looking for...

But the question was...who? And for what end...?

NPC (Story Essential) ???????

From the rooftops of the the city of vanguard, a strange man looked out upon the thriving metropolis. His hair silver, close on to white, long and flowing behind him, the man sat with it billowing in the wind, his gaze unmoving and solemn as he seemed to be...thinking. Thinking so calmly and deeply it seemed as though the man had been there for a very long time, and intended to be there for a long time yet. He felt the air course around him, the cold clay tile of the roof top beneath him, the warm light of the sun above...even the moisture in the air around him...

Balance... perfect...and precise. It was a world of comfort to this man, a universe of serenity, amidst a seemingly chaotic sea of the people below. Yet they too were a part of the balance...without them, it would be as nothing...an incomplete work with no passion or purpose.

As he spoke, it was with a deep and corded voice, his face still solemn almost to the point of detachment. "...Do they yet understand...can they yet comprehend the consequences of their actions?" the wind seemed to almost give answer to his question, picking up slightly as a single leaf, as though it had been carried there for the specific purpose of granting him guidance, softly floated up into the air before him, his hand gently reaching out to cradle it.

"No...it is the nature of humans to seek what they cannot find, to long for that which they cannot have...to control that which was never to be controlled..." he closed his deep crimson eyes. "But...there are some things," the man allowed the leaf to be swept back into the current of the wind. "That cannot be controlled..." he let out a long slow sigh. "Humans must follow their nature...and nature must adhere to it's own design...does that mean that this was inevitable? Is this what they call...fate...?" The wind this time, did not seem to have an answer to his question, the world around him falling silent.

The man's other hand gripped tightly the strangely intricate sword clasped within it, the blade giving a off a strange unearthly glow. "So be it then...it would seem that we must each of us, follow our path..." he seemed almost lamentful of these words, slowly getting to his feet. "Even if that is so...I must do what I can..." he held up the blade and watched it with a strange look of nostalgia. "That, it would seem...is my own path." the sword seemed to vanish, seeping into the man's own arm as though it had been mere vapor. "It is...almost time." he looked up at the sky, as though hoping some sign might correct him...but all he could see was the beautiful blue cloud filled expanse above...

Alas...it seemed that such a sign would not come...

((This guy is an NPC we'll being seeing from time to time. Story essential. Good guy, bad guy, we don't know, neutral well...I do, emotion_awesome But that's not the point! Point is that he's important, so if you want to roll on up to have a chat with him some time before....something happens (maybe learn something interesting) and the party is formed for reals, then feel free to do so. Because of his Story essential nature, I'll be in control of him. If you want interact with him, just give me a shout out. I also remind that you guys can create your own NPC's for your exclusive control whenever ya like. Just send me a little blurp giving their basic details, and I'll put in the NPC category. NPC's can be made public, and then anyone can use them, but if you want to have exclusive control, then say so when you send it to me.))

"Life's a drag, your a nuisance, just another day in life."

Maka sighed. Recall was one of the most annoying things that anyone has ever used against him. He didn't even have time to take the money out. Yeah, he could read ruins, but of what use? Its not like he's an explorer... Anymore. Then it hit him.

"Wait, a ruin?! Then I must have stolen from... Then that girl must know something, I'm sure of it. They all know the latest happenings. Hell, that's how I almost got caught last time... But still, it looked like her and her boyfriend or something were heading out towards the exit to the town. But..." He stopped and took a glance at the papers. "Wont be going very far now will we? I'll go search for them... Tomorrow." He said to himself as he got up and put the papers into his back pocket.

As he began to walk to the edge of the roof, he noticed something atop on of the roofs, but shrugged it off. He jumped down onto the street below, and let lady luck guide him. Sure enough, lady luck sometimes had a d
twisted sense of humour which she inflicted on this poor soul. Unknowingly, he walked into the very same bar that persons of high interest were heading too as well...

Akakios An Gaurdious Burnstein

Akakios gave a silent sigh of relief as they took into a cool tavern. The sun no longer beating on their back, wiping a glove across his forehead as a drop of sweat fell upon it he happened upon an idea. Chuckling slightly to himself while by the fingers of the gloves they pulled away from his hands, and the white things fell into his pockets.

Waving in an absent minded manner to the other two as he called them closer to the bar. Weaving through a small crowd, brushing through a few that called out rudely to him in a drunken manner, but only quickly resumed back to their conversations. With a small smile Akakios glanced upward, a mirror planted in a corner of the roof and there was a silver haired man who seemed to enter.

Tearing his eyes away from the mirror he turned back to the bar, a loud voice calling out to him. "Three pints, I'll have your finest brew and see to it these lads have whatever they please."

Akakios dug into his pocket, the sound of a string pulling on fabric, pulling into some bag of some sort. Bringing out one gold coin as he flipped it into the bartender's open hand. "My gift to these young fellows."

(( xd No problem. We've all got lives and stuff. I was only able to get on a little while before you posted myself.

Now, as a bit of an announcement for everyone, note that every Main has a sort've a consistent antagonist, as you probably noticed in your profile eh? This antogonist will be under your exclusive control until you say otherwise, so it's kind've like an extra character. Whenever it pleases you to have them enter the scene, fill out an NPC blurp for them and I'll add them in their own section of the People you need to know post. I'm introducing my two this post, just to sort've give you a feel for the whole thing. These six little "Antithesis" to The Six will have their own parts to play...))

Xenon actually enjoyed the rather merry atmosphere inside the tavern, he had to admit, as he took his next to Eve, as she took the seat beside their new acquaintance. When Akakios offered to buy their drinks, he he had a raised brow and smile. "That's very gracious of you Mister Akakios." he thanked as the man behind the bar gave a wink to them and slid them their mugs across the table.

"Thank you kindly." Eve concurred, taking her own mug and taking a rather fearless swig of the mug, slamming it down back on the table in a rather masculine fashion. "Ahh!" she wiped her mouth looking rather unphased. "This is very good. We've been traveling for some time so we haven't really had much time to stop an relax."

The barman gave a chortle. "Let me guess miss...you from Seirun?"

Eve blinked looking surprised. "Huh? Was...it that obvious?" she said before taking another unheeded swig from the mug.

"AHAHA!" The barmen laughed merrily. "Lass's from Seirun always got a set of guts in em is all. Refreshin ta see iffin ya ask me."

Xenon gave a laugh himself, looking sidelong to Akakios, peering around Eve, as the Barmen tended to the other customers. "So, Akakios, if I may ask, what sort of adventure is it that you planned to find in Vanguard? Or is yours a quest without destination?"

Eve too looked cheerfully toward their new friend, her countenance apparently unaffected by the alcohol she was drinking. "Yes, you seem like a gentlemen, to be honest. I doubt that your anything like us."

"What she means by, like us," Xenon clarified still with a grin. "Is ex-fugitives from holy justice." he waved a hand carelessly. "Long story." he said as though it was a merely a trivial detail.

Eve gave a slightly embarrassed laugh at this. "We're, um," she felt the need to clarify. After all, the young man beside her seemed like a very nice person...she felt the need to explain that they hadn't done anything wrong...they hadn't. Perhaps, in a way, she thought, she was also trying to convince herself. "Xenon is a sorcerer," she explained needlessly "And...well, you may know that in our homeland it's not permitted for men to learn sorcery. Holy law states that once a male learns magic, they're to be banished but..." she got a slightly more...solemn look on her face. "The Goddess's inquisition are...more harsh then they should be. It's complicated..." she didn't really want to air the dirty laundry of the church of Portrine here in a tavern of all places. "I guess the long and short is that I and Xen left Seirun to prevent him from falling into their hands."

Xenon gave a slight chuckle. "Oh...? Was that the only reason?" he raised an airy tone."

Eve gave a small smile of her own. "Okay...I admit that I'd been planning on running away beforehand...I guess I just...decided it was time." she looked almost dreamily into her mug. "I've always wanted to get out and see the world."

Xenon adjusted his glasses with a finger, taking a rather small sip from his own mug. He didn't notice the figure enter the bar, and therefore didn't get the chance to assess that it was in fact the same young man that had tried to take Eve's wallet beforehand.

NPC (Inspector) ???????~

As life in the humble tavern was unfolding as life often does, across the the bustling city, at a gate at the far western side of the metropolis of three flags, life was unfolding a rather similar manner for two rather bored gate guards which were managing incoming foot traffic from the rather harsh land of Bandore. They were rather run of the mill guards, to be perfectly honest, and they were quite aware of this. Had someone asked them where they might have found themselves in ten years, their response would most probably have been. Right here, guarding this gate. Bereft of ambition and in truth, any sort of excitement in their lives, it was therefore rather a peculiar sight to them to suddenly look up, and find a rather odd looking young man staring at them silently. Or...it LOOKED like he was staring at them. Due to the rather long blonde bangs that hung in front of his face, it was a nearly impossible to make out the boy's eyes.

Of course, the rather disturbingly wide smile on his face was really the focal point for his expression anyway. Never had the pair even SEEN such a smile. It sent a slight chill up their spines. Even if it wasn't necessarily sinister, it painted the picture of some sort've Mad Jester, added with the man's rather odd clothing and the even further unusual manner that he was just...staring at them, and both guards gripped their weapons tighter almost at once.

"Hey." the odd young man tilted his head slightly, as though taking them in from a different angle.

"Uh..." the first of the guards looked to the other, then back to the stranger. "Papers?"

"Papers?" the young man repeated, still with that...smile.

"Uh...yes...your identification?"

"Chi chi chi chi chi..." what a very disconcerting laugh...it WAS a laugh wasn't it? The guards found it hard to tell, but surely it could be nothing else. The man was laughing through that Cheshire smile, and it was a rather definitive sound. "Oh aren't you two just adorable in your little uniforms." the young man chuckled again, making that odd noise.

The guards frowned slightly. "What are you, crazy? You can't come in without papers."

The young however, began to walk forward. "You know...I really do enjoy little conversations like this...it's really in the small encounters that get to know people..." the guards felt an odd sensation in the pit of their stomachs. "The way someone looks at you, the way they speak...or..." Suddenly he muttered a word under his breath and a ball of bloody red light appeared in his hand. Their was suddenly a disturbingly bemused tone to his speech now, the dark tone in his voice making the smile seem nearly psychotic. "The way they tremble in fear." The guard's merely stood in shock and horror as the young man suddenly thrust out his the hand the red red light obscuring their vision as a flash came across their vision.

"AHHH!!" The guard cried out in alarm fear clutching at his heart as he covered his face, frozen where he stood....

Only for nothing to happen.

"H...huh?" both guards peered at the young man, who still had his hand thrust out, though in them, was a small collection of papers.

"Oh? Is something wrong? You wanted to see them right?" the youth's smile hadn't changed.

"Uh...I..." the guard took them tentatively. "Um...ahem..." they both seemed to be trying to collect themselves. "Uh...these...seem to be in order." the guard handed the papers, back, jumping slightly as another small flash caused them to vanish, the brief flickering of a rune in the air over the young man's hand.

"Well alright then." The young man said with a seemingly cheery tone, his expression unchanging from that ...smile. "It was a pleasure talking to you two fine gentlemen! Chi chi chi chi chi chi." the patted on on the shoulder as he passed, causing the man to flinch slightly.

As the young man passed the guards, entering into the city, the smile still never left his face, even as a figure called out to him in a slightly impatient voice.

"You're late."

The young man gave his rather bizaare chuckle, looking over to the figure with a rather merry tone to his voice. "Ahhh, Ali-baby, fancy meeting you here!"

A blonde girl with a sudden frustrated twitch to her brow emerged from the shadows of the gate, glaring at the young man with irritation. "Idiot..." she was a girl with short hair, shorter even the young man, and was garbed from head to toe in rather menacing black armor, the wrapped form a massive pole arm slung behind her. "I'm the one who called you here."

"Oh?" finally the smile faded from the boy's face as he adapted a more obliviously curious look. "Is that right?"

The girl merely continued to give a him a hard stare.

"Chi chi chi chi..." his eerie smile returned. "Ahh, sorry Boss. I just can't help it...you're such a treat when you're angry." he tilted his head slightly. "and you're always angry...I guess that's why I like you so much. Chi chi chi."

Alouette merely scoffed taking a few steps passed the strange young man before looking back at him. "Hmph...I never should have contacted you...but I suppose it's too late now." she gave a slight sigh as she turned far sharper eyes towards the city. "I take it you don't need me to brief you on the job details...?"

The young took a few steps further, standing beside the girl. "Nah nah, Ali-baby, I get the basic idea...why do you think I was soooo eager to take the job." he held up a hand to his face, his smile, if it was possible getting slightly wider. "You're after Xenny...right?"

The girl gave the young man an odd look. "...you are to capture him alive. He's not to be harmed...do you understand?"

"Chi chi chi chi chi, yeah yeah, I got it wired...don't worry." he cracked his neck slightly. "I wouldn't hurt Xenny even if you asked, anyway."

The girl looked slightly surprised. "You...you are familiar with Xenon?"

"Oooooooo yeeeeeeeah." the young man said dragging out the words. "Xenny and I go waaaaay back, chi chi chi." Alouette frowned, but let it stand. This one was unstable at the best of times...but he got the job done. "But ya know...the way I hear it, Xenny's not traveling alone these days... I can capture Xenny, you just need to take his staff and he'll do whatever you say, but if someone else interferes..."

The girl frowned bitterly. "You need not concern yourself...I will deal with...that girl, personally."

"But..." the young man pressed "What if she manages to get around ya? What'll I do then?"

The girl twitched slightly. "...If she dies, then so be it."

"Chi chi chi chi chi..." the young man gave a rather animated shrug. "Oh my...how cruel. Such a vicious little sister you are..."

Alouette wheeled about to face him looking furious, lifting the man up by his collar as though he weighed next to nothing. "You listen to me Bellius, if you DARE call that...that..." she looked furious. "That pathetic disgrace, my sister again I'll..." she didn't finish her words, but Alouette Prier's wrath was clear.

"Oooo, scary, you gonna get mad? You gonna kill me...? Chi chi chi chi." Bellius seemed almost euphoric at the idea. "Oh you really are just adorable, Ali-baby."

Alouette released him with a scowl. "Enough...they were spotted entering through the north gate...I received a tip off from one of my friends the guard here...they can't have gone far."

"Oh? Then tally-ho and venture for wot, and all that." Bellius stepped into stride just ahead of the still frowning girl, his walk a rather strange strut, his arms and legs kicking all the way up as he walked, drawing a fair amount of attention as they walked down the street.

"Argh..." the girl rubbed her temples as though in pain. "This idiot..." she fell more focused, her intense gaze ahead. She had to concentrate on her goals... Bellius was just a means to an end...a tool and nothing more...soon, she would finally complete her mission... soon...

"Life's a drag, your a nuisance, just another day in life."

Maka walked straight to the farthest table away from the door, around the back corner of the tavern. He nodded to the barkeeper, and watched as one of the waitresses brought an ale over. "Enjoy!" The waitress said all cheerfully. Maka kept silent, and made no effort to make eye contact. The waitress gave an offended face, and stomped away all angry.

Maka sat silently, sipping away at his ale, making no effort to communicate with anyone. He eventually grew bored, and took out one of the many things that he had stolen. He reached into his sack, and took out what was supposed to be a piece of solidified magic. It was rumored that once broken, it would release whatever magic was stored inside of it. Maka then reached for the knife at the other end of the table, when he noticed them. The two who he had stolen from where right there, right in front of him, sitting across from where he was.The only thing was, how was this going to play out?

Akakios waved his hand slightly at the mention of his gratitude. His smile wide as he watched Eve enjoy her mug, shocked at how obvious her origin was. His head shaking slightly as he gave a small laugh. He listened to them carefully as they mentioned themselves as ex-fugitives. Akakios took a swig from his pint as their words treaded lightly over their tale.

A bit of foam fell onto the stool as his mug fell back to the table, a sympathetic smile to the two. " A delicate thing isn't it?"

He turned back to face the wall of beers that lie in a honeycomb shelf, the word dragging lightly out of his mouth as the thoughts of his troubles filled his mind. "Rule, royalty, pride, orders, justice?"

He shook his head and pulled himself away from his far away gaze, it was not something of importance now. "No matter."

He looked to the two, taking another swig of his ale, giving a quick compliment to the bartender for his fine ale. The bartender giving a nod in appreciation and thanks, running off to serve the ale elsewhere. Looking back to the two again as he set the mug on the table. "There is no set quest as of now, I merely need to find myself some suitable attire, I didn't have much time to prepare myself for my journey."

Eve gave a slight nod. "I know how you feel. I had to leave home in a hurry as well..."

Xenon though admitted a more curious expression. "What demanded you hurry, may I ask. I hate to judge a book by their cover, but you look like a man of station, I can't really see much pushing you out a door you don't fancy going through. Escaping some sort've court intrigue?" he said this in the tone of a joke, the cradle of his staff still resting on his shoulder even as he sat upon his stool.

Eve nudged her friend for his usual prodding nature, a smile still on her face regardless. "Xen, will you give it a rest, I keep telling you that not everyone shares your...are we even still calling it a sense of humor?"

"Much to their detriment." Xenon agreed with a careless shrug. His eyes however, suddenly caught a hint of a reflection in a mirrior behind the the bar. As it was the majority of mirror's content was unremarkable. It did, after all, what mirrors often did (though not ALWAYS did Xen now knew after having been friends with a certain...unique minded sorcerer) and was reflecting the room. In fact, had Xenon not been familiar with a certain pickpocketing individual that was sitting at the corner table, he would not at all have thought them in the least relevant. But as his eyes zeroed in on the slightly older young man's reflection, he moved a hand to adjust his glasses again, utilizing the angle of the light to glare the lenses over, obscuring his eyes.

Well well... wasn't that interesting. It was a small world after all...only it wasn't. While as previously remarked upon Xenon was not aware of the actual numbers, he knew for a fact that the world was very, very, big. The odds of meeting the young man again so soon by chance were slim to none. So that either left the fact the man was following them for some reason...or an act of providence.

Xenon was a not really a religious person, so he found the latter unlikely. But the first was a equally so...unless this was another piece in the strange puzzle he was currently trying to unravel. He turned his attention back to others, keeping alert now, but not wanting to draw attention from the young man on the small chance it was a merely coincidence...

Eve meanwhile was merely enjoying the peaceful setting. She was free at last...a traveler on the road, with no obligations or family duties to hold her spirit back. She and Xenon could go anywhere now...well...exacpt back to Seirun, but regardless, she doubted she would feel the need to return their for a long time. This new world outside was a just as grand as she'd imagined it to be, and she'd still seen so little of it. It was truly the start of her own long road to her destiny, whatever that might have been.

"But if you're looking for a new outfit, I'd imagine they'd have someplace around here." she indicated her own rune en-crested battle coat. "This was something that we picked up on our way of Seirun, but I'm sure that if you ask around theirs someone who could weave you something proper for the harshness of the road."

Akakios backed up slightly, the seat of his pants sliding on the chair, a flourished hand pointing to Xenon. "That my dear fellow is of worthy question and what wisdom has befallen you to not judge one based upon looks."

His arms fell back to the table as the foam reached to his lips once more. A bit of a jolt as he mentioned the court inrigue, the cup falling against the table as his sleeve wiped foam that remained on his face. Shaking his head as he watched Eve scold him, butting in slightly as they had finished their banter. "Ahh nothing of that, mere trivial matters that shan't be discussed on such a blessed day."

He took another sip of ale, the bartender now graciously coming back to fill the half empty glass. Seeing Xenon look to a mirror that hung in the ceiling. "Another fellow in the bar that reaches your fancy Sir Xen?"

Xenon gave a small smile Akakios's comment, giving a slight wink. "Ah, that I am so transparent. Truly it's a discredit to my teacher."

"W-what?" Eve nearly choked on her drink.

Xenon offered a chuckle before falling slightly more serious. "Don't draw attention. Hopefully his presence is merely coincidence, but that young man I was so noting picked Eve's pocket earlier today."

Eve suddenly set her mug down, looking at Xenon victoriously. "Aha! So I didn't give my wallet to you! I was right!"

Xenon waved this aside. "Yes yes, the point is that he was able to avoid a respiral from someone of your capability." Xenon's normally smiling eyes seemed far sharper "He's not a man of common ability, and I don't know about you but I make it a point to avoid conflicts with enhancers."

Eve got a slightly less puffed up expression herself, though she did still have the humor to add, somewhat incredulously. "You pick fights with me enough."

"That's just because I know you're all talk lady Eve." Xenon said returning to his seemingly innocent cheer.

Again Eve puffed up looking indignant. "Oh I'll show you who's all talk!" She grabbed her friend in her usual choke hold, the boy barely able to remain on his stool, though as per the average event, his smile didn't falter even if his voice was a bit strained. "Lady Eve, this is hardly behavior becoming of a knight for justice."

Eve turned up her nose slightly even as she released the Sorcerer. "Hmph. Defeating an evil Sorcerer seems like a perfectly acceptable thing for a hero to do."

Xenon chuckled to himself again, readjusting his glasses, which had fallen slightly askew in the scuffle...if one was to call Eve's clear and sheer advantage over him in strength a scuffle. "Such cruel words milady." he seemed to once again grow tad more stern "Levity aside," he took the subject back on task. "I was able to retrieve the wallet, so no harm done. But if he's here for a more nefarious purpose, I'd just assume not attract too much attention to the fact we know he's here."

"More Nefarious purpose...?" Eve raised an eyebrow looking slightly skeptical. "What reason could he have for something like that where we're concerned? Now that we've been cleared of the charges, there's nothing to be gained from taking us in."

"No." Xenon admitted. "But..." he gripped his staff a margin tighter. "Well, better to be safe then sorry." Besides...though Eve might not want to admit it to herself. There was at least one person, he suspected, that would likely still want to see them punished. He turned his attention back to Akakios. "Hn, I apologize. It seems we may be causing you trouble if this turns south."
