"Gaa!" Tenka landed on one of the trees and pawed at his ears. That had hurt!
"Tenka, U-Turn!" Shina called. Tenka launched himself off his branch, and swooped towards what he hoped was the right Zubat.

"Nice one!" Zinnia said, grinning, as Tenka hurt himself rather than her beloved zubat. However, it looked like the flying squirrel had already recovered! He sure was resistant to confusion. But she'd have to take a chance and try again if Zyk was going to have any chance at winning. "Supersonic again!"
Since close-range seemed to work better on Tenka, Zyk winged his way over before releasing a tirade of supersonic squeaks.

"All right, we've been lucky so far... Go try another Return while he's still confused!" Zinnia commanded.
Zyk darted after the emolga that had just hit himself once again. It was definitely lucky that that hadn't hit... Zyk was starting to feel weak. Better to get the battle over with quickly. The zubat pushed such negative thoughts away and, concentrating instead on his beloved trainer, he dove to attack.

Tenka drooped dizzily to one side, only to feel Zyk go swooping by. Startled, he tried blasting it with a Shock Wave.

"Return!" Zinnia called out.
Zyk hissed lightly as his confused opponent managed to evade his attack, but upon Zin's command, he readjusted his course and made a beeline for Tenka once again.

Tenka spun a bit as he was hit. When he stopped, the world kept spinning. Unable to aim an attack, he just tried pulsing energy in every direction.

Zyk recoiled as the confused emolga finally landed a hit. The Swift smarted, but at least it wasn't super-effective. Still, it was enough to make his flight wobbly. His chirps became weaker, which rendered his echolocation less effective as well. But no matter how tired he was, he couldn't give up!
Zinnia bit her lip, watching her beloved zubat struggle to carry on. She had really bungled this match; there was no way they could win. It wasn't necessary for Zyk to push himself any further. He had done so well against a strong opponent.
"I forfeit the match," Zinnia called out. "Zyk, come back." As her battle-worn zubat winged his way back obediently and landed on her shoulder, she looked across the stadium to face Shina. "Thank you for the match; your emolga is very strong," she said, projecting her voice so that she would be heard. "We'll keep training, too. Maybe we can have a rematch someday!" With that, she turned on her heel and exited the trainer's box, already on her way to the pokecenter.
She knew Zyk well enough to know that he was hurt that she had not trusted him to win the match, despite the odds. But she also knew that he would forgive her. Still, whether he would forgive himself was another matter... They both had to train a lot more, so that Zyk wouldn't have to feel like he was the weak one.

Shina blinked at the abrupt departure. Shrugging, she recalled Tenka and headed for the pokemon center herself.
