The Jungle Course (wind roll)

"Did you know spookies wind awful desu brushing?"

A voice piped up from the pack on Yin's back. And he had no idea what it meant. That however, did not cause him to lose his footing as a gust of wind swept over him. The jungle...looked green at least. Though it was dark, there was questionable water, and it appeared that creatures were staring at him.

Snow Dash!

Alex made his way onto the course, slowly and hesitantly at first, but then trying to pick up the pace. He shrugged the backpack up higher on his shoulders as it began to slip, causing the little lepus guide to pop his head out and say, "Did you know that no snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible?"

Alex wasn't sure how to answer that, so he just kept moving, his feet slipping now and then and making it difficult to manuver.

It wasn't too terribly long when he took a step, and heard the faintest cracking sound. Pausing for a second, he then very hesitantly lifted his other foot to take a step and

CRACK!

Oh. OH! ICE! SHI---

Alex began to scramble, his skeltal foot thankfully covered by a sock today which, since it had been soaked through with rain, provided him with some amount of traction. He made a stupendous striding leap forward, his back foot dipping into the water beneath the ice just as he was able to drag it out.

He stood upon solid but snow covered ground once more, but only barely. Glancing down and at the broken watery ground behind him, he shuddered, before turning and spotting his first red flag. taking a couple of shambling steps forward, he pulled it out of the ground, and continued on, much more weary of the dangers now then he was before.

"Did you know that you never really know your friends from your enemies until the ice breaks?"

Seriously? "Shut up.." Alex muttered.

Snow Dash!

Alex continued on, carefully taking slow and meticulous steps, testing the durability of the ground beneath each foot as he continued onwards. The snow was coming down harder now, almost blindingly so. Everywhere the zomboil looked all he could see was white. White everywhere. He tried telling himself that it could be worse, that he could be trapped in a fire cave or back on that beach in the unrelenting heat.

It was as he was thinking about these things that Alex stopped really paying attention to where he was walking anymore. Suddenly, he took a careless step forward, and found himself waist deep in the snow, and sinking fast. The lepus guide at his back leaped out of the bag, easily standing atop the snow and cocking his head at Alex curiously with an eerie smile and empty eyes.

"Did you know that snowflakes are kisses from heaven?" The ridiculous lepus guide asked, hopping up and down in place as Alex floundered.

"That's wonderful...wait, what is---never mind. Think you could help me out of here?" as he flailed around, trying to pull himself out, it seemed like he only sunk deeper and deeper.

Oh dear jack, he was going to be stuck completely immobile under here, wasn't he?

"Get help!" He managed to utter towards the lepus before he was swallowed completely by the snowdrift. Trapped beneath the snow, unbreathing, unmoving, and slowly freezing to a solid 6'1" mass of zombified flesh. He didn't exactly fall asleep, but eventually his brain went numb as he blacked out from the cold.

The Cave of FIAH

'One does not simply walk into a fire based obstacle course.'

You're right, ambiguous narrator voice. Mort walked in and screamed.

This was . . . this was the worst possible place to be. Why did he go here? Why didn't he take a turn towards the trees? Why did he have to go to the light?

He was soggy from rain, itchy from sand, smelling from sun, and now he had to deal with fire?

"Did you know zombies are weak against fire?" a voice piped in from behind. "And did you know coals count as fire? OH and did you know zombies smell like bacon when they burn?"

Oh, and a lepus guide to boot.

For the first time in Mort's life, Mort lifted his head up and growled a loud "FUUUUUUCK! ******** ******** ******** ******** ******** ******** felt good. It didn't help his situation, but it was good to give his frustrations a word in private. It wouldn't have been good to break down in front of the team.

Now, to the task at hand. Gaaaaah. The lepus guide told him to take his shoes off (the sadistic little b*****d) and walk cross the coals to get to the next destination within. A small whine was born in the zomboil's throat as he surveyed his soon-to-be hell. This wasn't like the hot springs at all, no sir; he couldn't dip his feet in and pray to whatever gods there were that he could be motivated to move faster.

Sucking in a deep breath, Mort began taking his first steps. Immediately pain shot up through his legs, warming him quickly at the price of burns. Clenching his teeth, he willed himself to move faster, yelping with each go. Mort made some decent progress, but some things weren't meant to last: eventually a toe stubbed itself on a large piece of coal, and he toppled over faster than an ax to a tree fox's legs.

Oh the pain. The bumpy, burning pain. He would have immediately gotten back up if he didn't keep stumbling on the uneven terrain. and then, he smelled it: smoke. In horror Mort looked down to find that his face-plant on the ground had cost him something more than some bruising and pain - now his shirt was on fire.

Fire. Fire right on his Jackdamn shirt creeping up to his Jackdamn face -

Never before had an undead exhibited so much energy and vibrancy than Mort did just then. Not only did he managed to get himself up and going back to the lip of the cave, why, he even managed to get up and going through the rain even. Rolling, running, stumbling, rolling - he was an undead laundromat, ripping his still flaming shirt to pieces so that it did not engulf him as well.

It took a few minutes for the lepus guide to catch up and get him some help to the infirmary.

FAIL

The Jungle Course

"Did you know Sally fritz cave blacken?"

Log? Had his guide just said cave? Well, as Yin had no idea as to which direction to go, he decided to head down a rather poorly made path toward what appeared to be a cave. He walked in fairly confidently before...was that a growl? That certainly sounded like a growl.

Suddenly out of his backpack rolled his...trashbot? How had that gotten in there? He turned to follow it out of the den, trying to capture it and was led out of the den to relative (but lost) safety.

The Jungle Course

"Did you know clock blat hallowdeer paper?"

What was he trying to say? Yin crouched down to examine a trail marker, not really able to read what it was saying.

"Did you know water refrigerator chair skating?!"

The lepus guide almost sounded irate now, and suddenly a boogeyman appeared. "You're lost scareling. Follow me."

With that he led a path through the jungle and, completely humiliated, Yin followed. So about those flags...he had never even seen one. "I do not need to go to the infirmary...I am fine." What he said did nothing, he was still taken there. He did not want to face the rest of his team right now. What a failure that course had turned out to be.

...where was everyone? Chuppi was waiting at the check point for the others, the flags in her hands. Her whole body ached, not enough that she wanted to go to the infirmary, but at the very least she wanted someone to be there so she could show them what she'd done!

. . .. . . .were they okay? A cold panic was starting to set in, and Chuppi pulled her hand to her mouth and started to nibble at her nails. They tasted of horrible mud and dirt but she didn't care! She was worried!

The boogeymen had followed the lepus guide, who had indeed gone off for help, back to where the zomboil was buried. The small green creature pointed to the ground, and said "Did you know that zombies don't need to breathe, but can still be trapped under the snow, frozen forever?"

Wow, it was finally being...somewhat helpful?

The boogeymen got to work digging Alexander out, and then carried Alex's frozen stiff body over to the infirmary where he could be thawed out. They laid him on a cot in the tent, and left him to be taken care of by whoever was tending to the injured students.

As his frozen brain finally began to reawaken, it was to the hot blasts of air directed at him from several heaters. He groaned pathetically, his body still too stiff to properly move and to try and turn the heaters away. Where was his team? Did they make it through their courses okay? He hoped none of them had failed as miserabley as he had.

"Did you know, that..." Alex's head slowly tilted to the side, where he could see his lepus guide sitting in a chair next to his bed, holding the one lone red flag Alex had managed to capture.

Taryn was sitting in a chair beside Alex's hospital bed, leaning her arms on her knees. She felt like the single most useless team leader. Alex, at least, had managed to get a single flag. Maybe they couldn't do this. There were only so many times you could chalk failure up to potential success. They'd all just have to do so much better on other rounds, they'd have to choose carefully...

"Hey," she said to the zomboil, voice deep and flat, and her guide peeked up over her shoulder.

"Did you know that hypothermia can be fatal in less than 15 minutes?!"

"...super helpful, these things."

So far, Chuppi had been the only one to not be delivered to the infirmary. Oh, Jack...
PostPosted: Thu Mar 15, 2012 6:57 pm

Not long after Alex's and Yin's inevitable relocation to the infirmary, another mess was brought in and tossed onto the cot to be looked at. It indeed, as the guide had said, smelled a bit like bacon. Rotting bacon, but bacon nonetheless.

Mort was a jumbled, haggard looking figure balled up on the once-pristine linen, twitching and clutching at himself tightly, enough to where the nails dug through flesh. Most notable about him, beyond the new smell, was the lack of shirt - maybe that was what the nurses had peeled off him. The shaking zomboil said nothing, hell, did nothing while he was attended to, and even afterwards was rooted in place on the cot.

There was a strange, almost strangled sound coming from him, but it was hard to tell since his face was currently buried in his knees.

To the infirmary he went. Which was actually a good thing, because his zomboil was there and apparently in a dire state. He moved over toward the cot. He crept in close, basking in the heat as he greeted Miss Taryn, though his eyes were trained on Alexander, obviously worried.

Then Mort was brought in. "Perhaps you should go see to him?" he suggested to the chimera, not about to leave Alexander's side. "I am here," he murmured rather uselessly. "Oh you acquired a flag? You must have been doing well on the course before they brought you here." His fingers itched as he desired to reach out and touch the zomboil, just to confirm that perhaps he was going to be fine. He eyed the heaters as well, he loved them but Alexander...probably did not. He moved the closest one so that it was not blasting directly on the zomboil, but still warming the area.

His lepus guide crawled out of his backpack and all but fell on Alexander, creeping up to his chest. "Did you know-- *twitch* "Did you know-- *twitch* "Did you know-- *twitch* "Did you know-- *twitch*

Taryn turned up to Yin, unsurprised that he seemed to want some alone-time with Alex. Her team was all alive, or un-alive, whatever zombies were. That was good enough. It took the ghoul until now, though, to hear that noise above the general din of the infirmary. Oh, Mort...

The ghoul crouched by the poor zombie on the cot, her brow deeply knit and a hand on his knee.

"...Mort?"

It was like a repeat of their battle, only without the discarding of clothes and with more actual burns. And like the battle, he once again flinched from her touch, toppling over to his side but not acting any different for it; Mort was still one curled up ball of a zombie. The nurses had given him salves like Taryn had, and he had a few new fresh bandages available for viewing pleasure - along with the same decayed holes around his rib cage and hip.

He had heard Taryn, Alex, and Yin's voice, but not Chuppi's - not even a whimper. Did that mean she had finished her course? The poor ghoul was probably wondering where they all were . . . the image of her crying alone in the rain stung him. His strangled noises stopped, but the dark feelings did not. A low mumble: "Failed . . . m'sorry . . ."

"Did you know paper burns at 451 degrees Fahrenheit?" piped another tiny voice: Mort's lepus guide looked a bit singed himself, but mostly looked alright. "And did you know all the lupus's are related?" 8DD
PostPosted: Thu Mar 15, 2012 7:32 pm

"Did you know-- did-- did you-- did you know you are my family?!" The bunny was excited, arms flung out as if to hug. Unfortunately it was still strapped to Taryn's back.

Deciding only that her lepus was dysfunctional, Taryn leaned on Mort's bed and watched him topple. This wasn't good.

"No... no, no... these courses are insane, and in the rain..." Hold on, what did paper burn at? Why were they talking about paper? Come to think of it, why did everything smell bur-- oh, Jack. "Oh, Mort... don't be sorry. Come here."

Hugs made everything better, right?

"Did you know I LOVE YOU?" 83 It hopped, arms outstretched towards Taryn's prisoner, as if hoping to fly up and greet it. Hop Hop Hop.

Mort visible cringed, but there was nowhere to go on the cot and, well, he was making a fool of himself anyway; might as well complete the deal. With a groan he rolled over towards her, blearily blinking before he mumbled, "Chuppi . . .?" Not for mistaken identity, but for clarification.
