Nona snorted. Loudly. She sounded bored when she finally spoke.
<A man so beautiful as the doctor could not be so crazy. Nona thinks this one is just... jealous. After all, look at his face. These scars. Those glasses. This one is the craziest, my dove. Perhaps he is even dangerous. He is certainly not at all handsome. We should leave.>
Nona, Jerry is nice, okay? I like him. He's going to give me a kazoo. A kazoo!
<Wake Nona up when we are once more surrounded by beautiful bodies... ... peas in a pod ... should have known ... horribly disfigured ... not even handsome scars ...>
Sasha pulled back just enough to peer into Jerry's eyes. He looked so serious about the doctor. She would be sure to heed his warning, that was for certain. Sasha blinked a few times and cleared her throat.
"I'll be careful," she promised. After a moment she added, "...and you aren't crazy, Jerry." He just... kind of looked a little crazy. Disheveled. Kind of like a homeless person, almost. An endearingly nice homeless person, and one that was going to give her a kazoo.
"You would really give me a kazoo, Jerry?"

He seemed relieved and somewhat surprised at her reaction to his offer. "Of course!! It was a gift to begin with, what goes around comes around, right?" He positively beamed, feeling like himself properly for the first time in weeks. "And besides, us music enthusiasts need to stick together! You like classical you said? I'm not sure what I have, but people sort of... ahahaha showered me in gifts. It was my first Christmas, officially... so it was very good! But ah- yes! I have a ton of CDs and things, you're... Life, right, you said? You should be able to ask the labs about borrowing a player. Mostly musicals, I think people weren't quite sure what I liked and just went by what they heard me bothering Robert with, ahahaha."

Sasha gave another giddy little child-like clap at Jerry's answer, bouncing in her seat like she'd just been promised the most wonderful thing of all time.
"Yes, absolutely," she agreed with him, growing more animated by the second. "All I know is classical, honestly. Papa wasn't into what showed on the television or what played on the radio. The thought of listening to new music is just... it's... it's just thrilling!
"And yes, Life division. With um... Clerise. And Robert! I only met them on my first day in orientation, and then again on the mission to the North. Clerise.. she's so strong and pretty. They seem so nice, I can't wait to get to know people better. Robert brought me doughnuts!" Sasha paused and tapped her chin. "So.. when do you think we could get a kazoo for me? Do you have your own? Maybe we can play together!"
At that point Sasha finally slowed down enough to realize what Jerry had said about Christmas. "Y-your first Christmas?" How was that even possible!

"Kazoo duets!" Jerry laughed just as giddily, clearly excited by the prospect. "Both Robert and Clerise are alright, if a bit rough around the edges," He beamed, "Robert's one of my closest friends here, honestly! And Clarice," He was sure to pronounce the difference, "Is a wonderful woman. We could go get the kazoos now if you like, my room isn't far, although it is ah... a bit of a mess." He didn't have many belongings, but he had been practically a shut in for some time with no motivation to do much of anything outside of his duties.
At the look on her face at the Christmas remark, he smiled again, a bit softer, "Usually it's just Hanukkah for me."

"I haven't met Clarice," Sasha wiggled in her chair a bit, shooting to her feet immediately after Jerry offered to get the kazoo now, "but I am so excited to meet her. If you say she's wonderful, then I am certain she is."
Reaching forward, Sasha tugged at Jerry's wrist. "Come on, then. Don't worry about the books. I know we should probably..ah, pick them up now but," she leaned forward and whispered a little impishly, "lets be rebels. I'll come back and pick them up later."
<Oh. Oh no. Oh Sasha, you horrible ghoul. Leaving the books. Such a rebellious thing.> Nona's voice was monotone; she finished with a yawn.
As she continued tugging, Sasha looked thoughtful again. "Hanukkah, huh? I've read a little about it but I'm ... kind of clueless about the traditions." She gave a little half-shrug, watching him expectantly - kind of like an eager little puppy, really.

Jerry giggled as he was pulled, wobbling, to his feet, and reached to scoop up his coat to hang over his shoulder, "I... think they can manage the books." He was feeling a lot better, having spoken to this girl. She was so... sweet. And unimposing. He liked her. She was... overflowing with innocence. The near polar opposite to Candace was refreshing, and his heart was pounding a bit as she clutched his wrist. After a moment's hesitation, he twisted his hand until he took her's, leading the way out of the library, "Ahaha I think... I might be the only Jew on the island. Only one I've met so far. It would be nice to meet more but at least everyone's pretty open, right? I lit the candles at the Christmas Party. I'm not terribly religious, but I do appreciate tradition. My grandparents were a lot more serious about it than me," He babbled. His fingers were cold, and her hand was warm.

"It's good to be different. Unique, you know?" There was no twining of fingers - Sasha didn't even seem phased that Jerry had taken her hand. It was nice. The fact that she didn't have to worry about him baring his abs like Robert or.. kissing her cheek like Candace, it was nice. Very nice.
Simple? Pleasant? Gosh-darn downright super?
"I'm not terribly religious either. I mean. We didn't celebrate many holidays. Christmas was really the only one, and we didn't ...really exchange presents? When I was nine my papa got for me my silver Muramatsu - my flute." She shrugged, idly swinging their hands between them. "I would paint pictures for him. It was... nice? We didn't expect much from each other," she squeezed his hand. He was so cold!
"What kind of guitar did you have?"

"It... wasn't from home. I don't know what happened to my guitar at home," He suddenly looked a bit depressed again, still holding her hand as they made their way down the hall towards the dormitories. "It... was a gift. From someone here. On Christmas. It was pretty nice, too, had great sound. An acoustic. Wasn't a Fender or anything but I really really liked it."
He fell quiet a moment before quickly changing the subject, "Sounds like you had a good relationship with your dad! I was close to my grandparents. Took care of my Gran until um. Um. Until college. Didn't know my parents but," he shrugged. He had been happy at home. That's all that mattered.

"It's a shame you don't have it anymore," Sasha consoled him wistfully. She'd have loved to hear it, and perhaps even learn to play it.
As they walked, Sasha bumped her shoulder against his arm.
"My papa was all I had. My mama died when I was quite young and ah... I don't remember her very well. It.. I wish I had." The smile she gave him wasn't too melancholy, but it had dimmed considerably. "I took care of him too. He ah... he had his vices. Drinking, mostly. It... you know. It really hurt to see him... suffer."
Sasha abruptly rubbed a cheek, turning her face away.
"That's why I'm here. It... seemed the best choice. At the time, I guess."

His face flushed as he watched the floor pass under them, his mind churning. "I... uh. Didn't have anyone back home either. My grandfather died when I was still a kid, pretty much. All I had was Gran. She was very supportive, though. Got a little um. Funny at the end but... but that's just life, I guess. She was always setting me up with music lessons and... and stuff. It was nice. She raised me, taking care of her was the least I could do." He suddenly let go of her hand, twisting his in front of him as he fell quiet for several moments, "Oh uh- I'm just up here!"

When Jerry released her hand she quickly held both of her hands behind her back and toddled along beside him.
"I'm really excited about this." She wrinkled her nose, peering over at him.
"Excited over a kazoo. Excited Nona isn't going a mile a minute." Sasha hummed quietly. "Thanks, Jerry. It really means a lot to me. You being so nice, I mean."

"Oh, it's... it's nothing. Mr. Allan was telling me I should er. Make more friends. At least I think that's what he was saying, i had to look up the word he used specifically later but ahahaha..." He smiled bashfully, hovering beside his door as they reached it. "Um. Just... just wait here a moment, the place is um." He cracked the door, holding up a finger before darting inside.

Sasha tried to peer into Jerry's room as he slipped through the door. She was a little disappointed - she couldn't really see anything. Was it dirty? Maybe she could offer to help him clean it.
Nona snorted loudly.
What?
<You... are quite astonishing at times.>
Oh, Nona, that's so sweet. I thought you were mad at me! I thought --
<This was not a compliment, my dove.>
Oh. Well. Sasha pursed her lips and rocked back on her heels as she waited for Jerry to reappear. Maybe you're just jealous that I've found a nice friend who has no intention on ... on ... baring his chest or kissing my cheek!
Nona started cackling. Loud.

There was a bit of fumbling inside before Jerry reappeared, clutching what ones he could find with a victorious, "TADAA!!" He had already given a few away, but Deryk had been generous in his dollar store purchase, and there were still many to choose from, "Let's see... I have a blue, a yellow and a green left! Take your pick?" He held them out to her victoriously.
The door had been shut behind him strategically.

The very moment that Jerry showed his face again, Sasha was bouncing on her heels and clapping her hands in glee. She held her hands clasped against her lips as she peered at the three colors, eyes darting between them.
When she made a choice, Sasha reached forward and retrieved the yellow one.
"It's a happy color," she grinned, clutching the kazoo to her chest. "Jerry, gosh. You're just. Well. Thank you so much!"
More sounds of malcontent came from Nona.
