Conner blinked, catching that he was portraying more on his face than he realized, though she hadn't quite hit what he was thinking about.
"No....... I was sort of 'adopted', but....... well, it's kind of complicated."
He watched as Ma brought in two separate books.

Rogue shrugged at Konner, "Ah was adopted too. Nothin ta be ashamed of, Sugah."

Conner cracked a sheepish smile and chuckled a bit as they sat down.
"It's..more than that."
Maybe she'd catch on to the unusual aspects of this once they started looking through some pictures that had their assigned dates on them. One of the books were noticeably older than the other, and that one was opened first.

With an impish smile, Marie sat beside Mrs. Kent to view the family photos...

(oh darn it, I didn't see you posted sweatdrop um- about the transmission sent out to everyone by Bruce.... we're not at that 'point' in time, right?)
They started looking through pictures, starting (very) early, chronologically. So much so that they were looking at a younger Clark at the moment. Kon smiled at the joy this brought to Ms. Kent.

As Rogue smiled looking at the photos, something began to nag at her in the back of her mind: The difference in Mrs. Kent's appearance in the photos compared to her apparent age now. Also the style of clothing and haircuts seemed almost vintage to Rogue, as if they were completely belonging to an earlier generation. Slight confusion clouded Marie's features as she asked, "Excuse meh for askin, but when were these taken?"

Mrs. Kent gave Conner a sudden look of realization. This really was unusual... since all of Conner's friends who ever stopped by this home knew full well that Clark and Conner were different people- as well as exactly how they were 'related'.... She smiled a bit, giving Superboy a quick hug before she stood up.
"I'll go check on John."
She left the room and Kon internally thanked her-- this really was different.
"Oh-.. these were from the 70's--"
Oh boy, here we go.

Rogue's mouth hung open for a moment or two, as her left eyebrow went up slightly a couple of millimeters before she finally responded, "Ummmm... Conner? How old are ya?"

Yep, here we go.
"Er-"
Conner froze and kept staring at the pictures of Clark with Ma and Pa.
"....Sorry, this is... really weird. Everyone from the verse I'm from already knows this, so I've never really had to ... explain to a friend."

Marie smiled up at Conner, reaching up to clasp one of Conner's hands to reassure him, "Look. It's ahright. Ah've got several friends that are older than they appear. Ya just threw mah a curve, thaht's all. It's just thaht... ya don't act lahke you're that old..." Rogue cringed as those words came out, "Ah ain't callin ya old... Ah don't mind, really... Sides, your manners should 'ave bin a dead giveaway.."

Conner's attention was pulled away from the pictures as he stared at Rogue a moment..... oops.
"Oh- I....... I meant...."
Well how could this get any more confusing? Just straight out saying it was best at this point.
"No, I'm the clone of this guy."
Superboy pointed at a little Clark trying out the tractor. For some reason, Conner felt like he was going to burst into laughter. At least it didn't appear that way.

Rogue's eyes were wide open as she trying to mentally process what Conner just said. For an eternity of a second or two, the thought of 'I'm the clone' ricochets around Marie's head -- until finally... Rogue violently shakes her face back and forth for a moment or two to snap her back to the present. Blinking in utter bafflement, Rogue managed to speak, "C.. Clone? You're a ... clone? What tha... How tha...." Rogue began to vainly look around the room for the presence of Rod Serling announcing that they had just entered the 'Twilight Zone.'

Okay the urge to laugh was gone, though Conner kept this rather sheepish and uncomforable air.
"I was part of this really deep-government project in Cadmus..... I don't know if you've heard about Cadmus..... er-"
Superboy made a face. Just keep rolling through it.
"I guess no one in your 'universe' found out how to successfully clone someone....."
The look on her face was enough to make it more than just a 'guess'.

Rogue was still recovering from the numbing shock still paralyzing her face, "Actually.... There are some ... that have... Obviously, you turned out... well adjusted... Wow! ... Wow!"

Superboy was not quite sure what Marie meant by 'well adjusted'... but it was interesting to know cloning was around in her verse too.
"....Thanks? ........ I didn't know how you'd react to this, but..."
Honestly he still wasn't clear on how this would turn out. Kon started flipping through pages of the book again.
