SiberDrac I likely need as many classes in history and weapons as I can take. At the same time, I'm willing to teach any or all of the literacy classes, a psych class, and/or what I'd like to suggest: Anthropology/Sociology (character interaction). POL 101 is sort of designed to cover basic character interaction along with game mechanics and getting along with others but if you can come up with an advanced interaction class I'll add it (probably under POL). If you can come up with more than one I'll add a whole Sociology department. Submit (PM me) lesson plans for any of the classes you'd like to teach. Keynir I'd definitely enroll if I have a chance. These classes look excellent and it seems I can benefit from all of them. . . If it is needed I could help out with the Web Development class. . . Edit: Thought I'd say I do have a full-time internship and I follow an evening class on the side, so my time is somewhat limited. I hope that the student aspect of this project won't be terribly time consuming but the teacher portion will be very intensive so, please, do enroll but if you're time is limited then you don't want to teach. It's ok, we've got the web stuff (all the subjects actually) handled and honestly we need more students than teachers. Storm Aether Ahhhh, actually I'm going to have to withhold my participation for a while. . . I won't have time for this project until things settle down at work. Thanks for being responsible and sorry to hear that about your work. Hope you're getting paid overtime at least. You can jump into this any time so don't worry. The system is designed to accommodate such things. xXYami no KokoroXx I'm interested in all of it, but trying to be reasonable with the free time I have. Jikial Yami above me has expressed an issue of time for these courses, I say to cover that we make a "fast track" or "casual" class thing. . . As I said, I'm hoping the full classes won't be too time consuming but yes, some sort of system to handle the more casual player is a good idea. Extended deadlines are easily done (actually 'deadlines' may not come into play at all) and private tutoring should be available for everyone. I do plan on using the same commitment level system as in Aelzwyr to help players pair with others of equal commitment but I'm not sure about having separate classes for them because then they are not likely to read the real time courses. Still, all the classes should be kept fairly small (some larger than others based on subject matter) so we may by necessity end up with multiple classes of the same subject but that all depends on enrollment. And, yes. There will be homework. Well, in class work at least as some of the classes are done in one 'game day' with no leaving and coming back. They're short courses, part of why I hope it won't be very time consuming. Jikial I could totally do any of the history courses as a teacher, world creation and societies are my pet subjects. That being said history and geography would seem to go together as described, that way people don't get hung up on the MMO format of every "zone" being surrounded by mountains and having the same resources as completely different areas. But I'm sure that can be covered. Submit lesson plans for any class you would like to teach. And, yes, modular zones are something that would be discouraged in the making of a realistic world however they can serve a purpose in the more surreal environments (which might be one I should add as an upper level HIS course). Jikial Also I put my bid in for a "naming conventions & creation" workshop where different teachers and students can explain how they come up with their names. Hmm. . . that is an interesting topic, one I am quite bad at. Though I think maybe that might be better handled as a Guild Discussion Thread (see Stormy's Image vs Description) and/or part of PSY and HIS 101 rather than a stand alone class. Opinions? StealthNeko I wish I could teach and help out, but I actually need every single class. All the stuff I write is mediocre at best, so I would like to be in all of these classes. That's ok, we're a school after all and schools need students so you're in exactly the right place to learn. Maybe some day you can graduate and become a teacher but for now what we really need is students.

I don't really have any suggestions at the moment, but I'll enroll if the whole idea gets off the ground.

This sounds like a fun idea. I have trouble making characters sometimes and I found that most of them all carry similar traits. It'd be interesting to learn about others so the Psych classes would be a definite interest. Pretty confident in Kinesiology, though I'd like to hear more about martial arts and possibly the higher forms of tech(so 201-203). Someone else mentioned that you can never have enough history so I'd be down for that as well. The last two topics I feel are important, but I usually shy away from such issues, but I'd be willing to sit in and check them out as well. Overall, really like this idea and would join if it goes through.

You know how universities and such will sometimes have a guest speaker assembly? That's what I was thinking of, just a thread where different people are allowed to post their ideas on the subject, not a full blown course, just a "stand up and have your say" deal. If people want to ask questions they can feel free to PM those about their styles.

Note: Most of the 200-level kiniesieiseiseithology classes should probably cross over at some point, as each are rather heavily affected by the rest. As an example, close-quarters is heavily affected by the existence of firearms and vice versa; both must work around any and all magic and/or tech in a setting.

This, I feel confident saying, is absolutely marvelous! I can't think of a single person who wouldn't benefit from something like this, including the more advanced players as well. Spectacular~
That being said, I would love to participate! I offer my services for the Literature classes without hesitation. I'm a Grammar Nazi anyway and love to poke other people about their literacy, so this should be perfect~ I'm not a... fantastic teacher all told, but I shall do my best!
The History classes intrigue me immensely. I always have the hardest times coming up with geography and world history and things like that for my stories, and I think I this is exactly what I'm looking for. And the same can be said about Marketing. I'm looking forward to that, I can tell you~ I always have the hardest times getting people to join my roleplays, so maybe the problem lies with my marketing techniques.
I think I would just be sitting in for the rest of the classes. Character creation is mostly a hobby of mine anyway, so I might not need to take the class, but I'm also not qualified to teach it. Just seeing what other people do should serve as wonderful inspiration. Kinesiology doesn't interest me much, but having some basics about it certainly couldn't hurt. And Political Science might help work out some of the kinks I've had in the past with GMing. You said you were hoping for some experienced players to volunteer for the lower level classes? Right here~
Before I do anything else though, I must ask a question: What exactly do you mean by "lesson plans"? Will these courses actually run through several classes? How many classes to a course? Are they lectures like in college, or classes like in high school, or is it dealer's choice? Just those sorts of things.
Also! Before I forget again, jumping into the OOC / IC discussion: I like the OOC vs. IC also. I could actually seeing a writer dragging his character into a classroom and forcing her to sit down and listen while they both take a course together. LOLness~ Er, maybe that's just me.

Fantastic idea guys, I really love it. I'm down for teaching any and all levels of psy, kin 202, and I'd teach the class that works on naming and project development ideas and basics, that would be fun. and I also suggest a geography set, which I'm also down to teach. It could handle the the dimensions of running an RP universe and the world the characters are in/interact with, as well as the mechanics for building you're own unique and complex universe. Let me know if there's opportunity for me teach and I'll be down for it and write up lesson plans for any classes I'm given ^_^

Woohooo~ St. Patty's day!
Umbraja's passed out on the floor but asked me to thank y'all for the responses and let you know that we'll be starting the first class as soon as she recovers from trying to keep up with an actual Irish person.
I'll be teaching said first class. It will be PSY 101 and will be required for all enrolled in the Academy. This is because it will be our process for making/approving characters for the Academy.
Pleas reply to this thread with what class(es) you would most like to see offered next.
As for questions, I'll try to hit some of em.
Guest speaker/symposium thing sounds good for discussion topics.
Most of the KIN classes should cross over at some point. Perhaps in a 300 level class? Or maybe as a final?
A lesson plan is rough notes for what you plan to do with the lesson. It doesn't have to be much and the lesson doesn't necessarily have to go according to plan (no RP ever does) but you need to -have- a plan. Basically you need the following: - How you plan to start the lesson - What you expect the students to learn (topics covered) - What you expect the students to do (in class/homework assignments) - How you plan to end the lesson
If you need help with lesson plans Umbraja makes those for fun, she's odd. Also she is considering adding an Education department to teach y'all how to teach because everyone is having trouble with this lesson plan thing. Anyone interested?
And lastly, the HIS classes cover world building, effectively combining geography and sociology into one subject.
If anyone wants to teach they need to send Umbraja lesson plans. Thanks for the dastardly ones, Venom. Are you still willing to teach LIT 101?

Perhaps for the KIN series, we should have one or more classes based around the players performing a PvP combat situation with a separate thread for everyone involved to discuss what to do in advance and such?
I uh, I suppose I'm still willing to teach LIT 101 against my better judgment. <_<;
Because semicolons.
So many semicolons.

My lesson plan for HIS 101 V1.2 is in the making!
I think HIS 101 is going to be a long class, there's a lot to cover when it comes to just basically making a world.
