ou've been pushed 'round all your life.

And if you was married...

Wrong Place: Jack's hideout, Sairaag
Wrong Time: Afternoon, Spring 1

Jack smirked as he strolled out of the marketplace, bouncing a bag full of gold coins in one hand. He enjoyed the solid feel of a bag bursting at the seams with riches, but it was almost nothing compared to what he was envisioning for the future. With the shrines under our "protection," we'll get at least double what we're raking in now. Another step on the ladder to fortune. This is great! He was smiling like a hyena by the time he and Toothy got back to their hideout: a house in the abandoned part of Sairaag that was still mostly intact. The second floor was completely blown off, but the first floor and basement were good enough for Jack and his gang.

Most of his gang were there when he opened the door. They were all beefy men and women from various races... and they were all dumb as nails. A small arm-wrestling tournament was put on hold as Jack sauntered in, swinging the bag by the tie-strings. "Mission success," he declared. "Tonight, we divi up the stash and have ourselves some fun." That got several shouts of gratitude from the five brutes assembled there. Jack smirked again and went down into the basement. He turned around briefly to shout at the men, "Tiny's coming back shortly, and he'll have an extra passenger. Send him down when he gets here."

Throwing the gold into a pile in the corner, Jack flopped down in his chair, which was the most comfy one in the entire house. It wasn't long before he could hear Tiny's footsteps on the ground floor, slowing down dramatically as he heard a few of his boys give the man directions on what to do next. Wow... he actually hurried. Note to self: buy Tiny a drink.

Soon, the giant of a man was waddling down the stairs, little girl over his shoulder. Jack immediately sat forward and looked Tiny in the eye. "Good job, Tiny. Put her in the side-room." As the man did so, Jack jumped out of his seat and sauntered over to he referred to as the "side-room." It had once been a pantry of some kind, but he could've cared less. It was the perfect place to put his new captive until he decided that his plan had gone through to completion. Leaning against the door, he looked through a square hole near his eye-level at the blue-haired girl. "Hey, kid. You're going to be staying with us for a bit, so get comfy in there."

Oh from wicked, carry us away from captivity
{Required}
from us a song

How can we sing King Alpha's song in a
strange land?✘?

Artelind Valatores

For a day that started out rather nice things had quickly gone down hill. All the girl wanted to do was get some vegetables to make a nice stew for her brother tonight, and here she was being taken away by some giant guy who was ignoring her. Could he be much ruder? Arty was even being nice, asking politely to put her down or to at least stop and get her sandal but he just ignored her. When she thought of being rushed off her feet by a tall and mysterious stranger she hoped he would be more akin to a knight in shining armor with perfect manners, a winning smile, and hygiene that could be surpassed by none. This individual was none of those, she would go as far to say the absolute opposite. Her struggles were to no avail the entire time, this guy ignored everything she did, even when she started to flail and try to get out of his grasp. What a rude person.

No matter what she did she was finally lead to some run down house. Well, she couldn't figure out it was a house until after they had reached it being swung over this brutes shoulder. From what she gathered they were in a near empty slum, a place abandoned, and now they were in some place that was where she never planned to go. Or at least was never told to go. The lumux that was carrying her was talking to several people, all of them telling to go downwards.
"Excuse me please. Could any of you please tell him to let me go? It would be greatly appreciated." Artelind didn't stop being polite about being kidnapped, unlike these people. Some of them even laughed at her pleas for help. Led further downwards into this very grungy building till finally she heard someone that sounded important. He told someone named Tiny good job and to put her in a side room. Well that sounded lovely. It probably had a bed, and nice chimney that would lead upwards for a warm billowing fire.

Sadly though, the reality was nowhere near her expectations. The side room she believed to be a quaint guest room was really, really small. Being tossed into a room with a few remnants of what might have once been jarred food.
"Excuse me sir, this place is most undesirable. Could you please at least relocate me to somewhere else?" Once again this seemed like it wouldn't be in her future to be peacefully moved to a nicer room. She would give her brother twenty minutes before trying to find somewhere nicer herself. For now she took a seat and would wait...and avoid the bits of broken glass.

So let the words of our mouth
And the meditations of our
hearts

Be acceptable in thy sight

So Hyrum wasn't nuts and Teo saw the girl get nabbed by a big unsavory fellow too. That was good,it meant another witness to a possible crime. And that meant he had every right to punch people in the face if it boiled down to it. I do love punching baddies in the face. Shots to the ribs are fun too. As Teo got her stuff wrapped up and packed away, the chimera dug in his bag of gold and passed her a random number of coin pieces. They could work out the price of the rub later as he tucked it under his hat for safe keeping. "I'm coming with you. This could be dangerous if it isn't some weird game of tag or something." If freaks were going around grabbing girls than the little kitty here could use some protection.

Picking his fat bottom off of the ground,Hyrum looked to where the pair were last seen for signs of where they could have gone next. All he could find as he walked into the crowd was the girl's missing shoe. Not much of a clue... He tucked it into one of his pockets and looked back to Teo. "No sign of them or where they could have gone. Not much of a trail or clues left..." Not a great way to start a search and possible rescue.

"Any idea on where we should look? A lot of the town is still in ruins so they could be anywhere..."

You ever get the feeling something just wasn't right? All today this red headed homunculus had that feeling in his gut. Nothing seemed wrong to him when he woke up. Arty already had breakfast cooked, he had eggs and just a little tiny bit of bacon to start off the day, he was getting paid to help reconstruct some of the buildings that had been damaged and would head off to work. Even though the morning started so well he just couldn't get off that feeling. At least it was a good day to work hard and honest with your hands and not wear a shirt. Out of all the things in the world that were unpleasant Ketos' top irk was having to wear a shirt. Just felt uncomfortable and denied the glory of getting to let his abs breath. Which was just as awful as torture, even bitey hated shirts.j

Still, today was going pretty well. They had let him off early since they were having structural issues, the foremen sent everyone home till he could get it all figured out. So now the homunculus was trying to find his younger sister in attempts to surprise her. First stop was the shoody hut that they had set up as home, though she was no where to be seen. Left her knife at home but that was almost expected. Ketos could curse this girl's trusting nature, never thinking about the evil in people. Sighing he didn't want to ruin the surprise, nor did he want to just sit around and have nothing to do. With a sigh he might as well go look for her, at least then he could help carry groceries. The market was his first stop, not like he had many other places he knew Arty would hang out. She wasn't a tavern type, nor did she really know that many people in the city.

Walking down the market road, the advantage of being so tall he could at least see over everyone else in his way. All he needed to see was the short top of blue walking about, which was surprisingly harder then normal to spot today. Normally in those fancy robes she she liked to wear the girl stuck out like a sore thumb.
"Hey Arty! Arty! Where are you? Hey excuse me. Potato guy, have you seen a girl with blue hair and white robes?" From just looking turned to him shouting over the crowds and asking various venders he saw. It was starting to get a little unnerving. People that even looked like they might know something shied away from the topic and gave him the silent treatment. No one seemed to know or want to talk, even after her bought a bag of rock candies from one of them, don't they know how to treat a customer?!

And I don't see a way out coming, but there's gotta be!°
My
philosophy is this:
Why waste time, with set backs
Cuz times the only thing ya can't get back

Teo quickly pocketed the coins Hyrum gave her. She'd figure out the details later and made a mental note that he now technically owned the lotion. "The help would definitely be nice. Two pairs of eyes and such..." The cougar woman had dropped being overly verbose for the moment, much more worried about the girl. With one quick motion, she jumped on Marcus's back and urged him forward at a fast walk. The marketplace was too crowded to try anything faster.

However, even on horseback, the man with the girl easily slipped out of sight. Drat and blast it! Teo swore inwardly. The city's huge, and I'm no tracker. Looking down at Hyrum, she saw that he was holding a shoe. "Is that hers? Oh why couldn't I have gotten Father's nose instead of his ears? Then I'd be able to find them." She usually didn't complain about her abilities, but she was certain that they had just witnessed a kidnapping, and Teo was beating herself up about not doing more. "I've no idea where to go next, Hyrum. Sairaag is-"

She was cut off immediately as an extremely tall man started yelling over the crowd, asking if anyone had seen a girl with blue hair and white robes... Why thank you for cementing my worries? Now we know it was a kidnapping. Teo waved at the man, trying to get his attention, but he went from stall to stall, asking the same questions. At least that's what it looked like. Finally, she just whistled. "Hey, big boy!" she shouted. "I think I know who you're looking for!"

Jack was actually quite surprised at how well this little priestess was handling the entire situation of, you know, being kidnapped. He laughed a little as she didn't even put up a struggle, although any struggle would've been pointless since not even he could overpower Tiny. How grateful I am that these guys are dumb as bricks. Otherwise, I'd have been mincemeat ages ago. Glancing back into the side-room, Jack shook his head. "Sorry, kiddo. Only room we've got, so, as I said, get comfy." He began to turn away, only to remember something at the last second. "But I can get you a broom if you want to clean up a bit. Haven't cleaned that thing in ages."

Walking away from the door, he motioned for Tiny to guard it. The door didn't have a lock, but the giant man should be deterrent enough. Jack rummaged through a chest and got out some parchment, a quill, and ink. "And now to write the letter to Sairaag," he said to no one in particular. Tiny never talked, so, for all Jack knew, he was mute and couldn't answer even if he wanted to. "How should we word this? 'We have one of your shrine maidens. If you want her returned unharmed, leave'... how much gold do you think she's worth?" Jack pointed the quill at Tiny. He didn't expect an answer, but sometimes the man would give him numbers using his fingers. It was better than making things up all on his own, even if he did change things later to suit his plans.

Teo came up to Hyrum while on her horse, examining the marketplace from a slightly higher vantage point. She couldn't see anything that could have given them a lead so they were pretty much stuck at the moment. "Your dad's nose? That definitely would be helpful if your dad was any good at tracking. Especially in a big crowded place like this." So they had no leads,no clues and no direction on where to go. Not a great way to start a search and rescue. Damn, this is going to get us no where fast...

Scratching his head and popping a few of his knuckles,Hyrum was about to suggest that they start checking out the taverns to see if anyone noticed anything when Teo started to call someone over. Someone tall, with bright red hair...and said he was looking for a blue haired girl in fancy robes! That was her! "Hey guy, over here! We know the girl you're talking about!"

Trotting over to the man,Hyrum wanted to cut the distance between them so they could work on finding the girl faster. "We just saw a little girl like the one you're talking about being carried off by an dim looking bruiser! ...who are you to her though? Just to make sure we aren't helping another kidnapper..." This guy didn't look like he could have been related to the girl and it never hurt to ask. Sometimes two different kidnappers with the same target tricked others into helping by lying about being their family. It happened all the time, stories like that were always floating around taverns as far as Hyrum heard.

Things were actually starting to look hopeless. Either no one knew or would talk to him, either way it was really freaking annoying. At was almost getting to the point where he would let his temper to the talking and start forcing shifty looking people to answer his questions. Luckily for him and everyone else around him a ray of hope appeared in the forms of a walking rock and a cat girl on a horse. Well he had seen weirder things.
"Huh? Me?" Pointing at himself for a second before hurrying over to the two strangers. This had to be helpful, or at least he hoped so. A smile on his face as he listened to the man of the two talk. He was liking what he heard, they saw her, and then they saw her being taken away by some brute....WHAT!? His smile instantly turned to a look of shock as he looked at them. About to open his mouth a blurt out a string of questions about what happened but the big guy kept talking. "What!? Kidnapper! I'm her damn brother! Where did they go!? What happened!? Why didn't you help!?"
Ketos know was working on a ticking clock in his head. Who knew what this big guy that took her would want to do to her. Arty was too nice of a girl to fight him anyway, sure he could think she would escape but that seemed unlikely.
"Just tell me where they went, this can't wait!"

Teo leaned back a little as the red-haired man scurried up to them. He didn't say much, but Hyrum didn't give him much of a chance to, either. She tilted her head to better hear what the chimera was saying. Hm... never heard of two people trying to kidnap the same person before. Learn something new every day. The red-haired man's response was less than desirable, though.

Marcus whinnied and tried to sidestep away at his first outburst. It took Teo a moment to calm him down again. When she did, she gave him a stern look. "You certainly don't look related," the cougar woman stated, looking him up and down. "But we were just trying to figure out where the man went. We lost track of him in the crowd."

Looking back in the direction they'd last seen the bruiser and his most-likely-a-hostage girl had disappeared. "As for not helping... the guards are already too busy with gang turf wars, I think, so I at least needed to be sure before bringing them into the equation. She wasn't struggling, so it wasn't obvious." Teo snapped the reins, jolting Marcus to surge forward, parting the crowd. "So, are you coming or not?"

Okay, this guy was definitely her brother. He was freaking out like he was one."Hey,take it easy there,Sparky! I'm just making sure. You would be pretty pissed if we accidently got her back only to hand her over to the wrong guy." Hyrum said in his defense with hands raised in defense. Teo quickly rode over on her horse to step in and help him out with this hot head. She did a lot to help which helped the chimera out a lot. His way of helping guys like this was to get them in a headlock until they calmed down, and that didn't always work.

Teo started to take off then on her horse for another part of the market. "Hey,wait up! Teo,come on! I can't ran so fast! Come on,Sparky!" Hyrum jogged as fast as he could to rejoin Teo on her horse. They were moving through the market again but with no destination in mind. "A lot of Sairaag is still destroyed, and a lot of its houses and buildings are still abandoned. I wouldn't be surprised if these losers are hiding out in one of those!" The only problem here is which house and where? They needed more of a lead. They needed to start asking around. "Hey buddy, did you see a huge guy running off with a little girl on his shoulders? No? Hey lady! We're looking for a little girl with blue hair, did you see her? No? Okay...hey,hey guy! Hey,listen to me-Hey! Well screw you!"

This isn't going to be easy...but we gotta do it!

Artelind Valatores

A simple release looked like it was out of the picture for this one. Arty peeked though the key hole to see the man talking and trying to write something, didn't seem right. She had to figure out what to do, the best she had was an offer for a broom. The young homunculus was just trying to work things over. Use her magic? No, that wouldn't work. No way she could fight her way out of so many ridiculous enemies. She could try blasting a hole out to the surface, but she didn't know if she would be digging up into the first floor or outside, nor cast quietly enough to simple slip out. This was a perplexing problem for the girl. Well, could always try the most direct route. Slowly turning the nob of the door to see it was actually unlocked to her surprised.
At first just peeking though, the brute that grabbed her had his back to the door and was paying more attention to the guy writing. "We have one of your shire maidens. If you want her returned unharmed..." Oh no. Arty groaned when she heard him say shrine maiden. Just cause she liked to wear such nice robes didn't mean she was a priestess, though people seemed to make that mistake a lot.
"Um, excuse me. I think you've made a mistake." Stopping herself before continuing. Maybe telling this people she wasn't worth anything would be a bad idea. "I. I think you're wording it wrong. You don't want to just sound like some thug that will do it again tomorrow, right? You're a respectable looking gentlemen, not some black cloaked miscreant." Arty wasn't the biggest fan of lying, but she knew how to do it when needed, its how she helped take care of her hot headed brother.
Taking a few steps around "Tiny" as she looked over at the leader.
"I just came out for a broom but..." Artelind paused, hoping to keep up the innocent look she always had, that and she really did want that broom if they were going to keep her in that dirty closet. Just uncomfortable without getting it cleaned at least. "It sounded like you needed help, and I think I could do that a little better then your. Um. Friend." Her eyes glancing back over at the lummox that was standing guard.

These two were talking but not moving fast enough. His sister's life was on the line and time wasn't to be wasted on these sorts of weaklings. None of these people wanted to cooperate and Ketos wasn't going to wait on them any longer.
"Its not a questions of looks! Its the bond of the spirit that makes family!" He couldn't get anymore full of bravado or gusto as he explained how his relation worked. Striding away from the two of them and peering over the crowd as if he would still she her little head perking out above the crowd. This was far too frustrating. Having no real choice but to follow behind the cat girl on a horse and her plus sized friend.

Something about housing still being repaired, he already knew that he was working on construction currently. Running with the two of them trying to think of what was happening and how to handle it. Damn it! Arty is the one to handle this sort of crap! Thinking wasn't Ketos' specialty. Though, finally he got one good idea.
"Wait! I got it." Skidding to a halt and booking it off in another direction. One advantage of doing hard labor every day in this town was that he knew what sections of the town were currently swarming with construction crews and would make horrible hide outs.

All Ketos needed was to find which one had the worst stink. For a big guy he could move pretty fast when he had the motivation, spiriting down rows of condemned houses in a district. Stopping as he saw a place with a collapsed first floor and a load of idiots inside. Waiting and watching the outside. Should he just burst through the front door fists a flying? What if these were just some squatters? Looking back and forth Ketos was trying to do his best to think when he didn't want to.
"Hey, you two. What do you think. See that big guy you saw with her?"

The first thing Jack noticed was that Tiny had turned to look down. The second was that their little "guest" had come out of the room. Huh. Brave little kid, he thought, raising an eyebrow at her. He had never thought to put a lock on that door because they never used it. Well, not for anything that could move, at least. When she began talking, though, Jack lowered his quill and parchment. They had time; he could hear her out. What mistake could I have possibly made? If only he knew.

She knew how to stroke his ego, though. Jack leaned back in his chair and laughed. "Well of course I'm not black-cloaked. This thing here's red." Flicking the collar of his half-cloak to accent the point, he nodded for Tiny to back away and give her more room to speak. "Do you have any suggestions?"

Quickly, Jack saw the point of her coming out: a broom. "I think I can manage that. Hey, Tiny," he motioned at the giant man, "get a broom, 'kay? I think we've got something like it upstairs." As soon as the giant nodded and tromped up the stairs, Jack leaned forward, smirking. "Heh... anyone could give better advice than him. But he's got other uses. Mostly squishing things. He's real good at that."

Teo rolled her eyes at the man's outburst about what made family what it was. Of course there was a bond, but looks were good for telling families apart. Must be adopted or something. As she urged Marcus to move more quickly, she heard Hyrum yell for her to slow down. As much as it seemed like a waste of time - and, by extension, money - Teo pulled back on the reigns, slowing her horse down to a slow trot.

As Hyrum questioned anyone they met, the cougar woman tried a different tactic. Standing in the saddle, Teo looked out over the crowd, trying to spot any gaps where a giant man would've surely created. But as they got to where fewer people were, the less valid her tactic became. She was about to give up when the red-haired man yelled something. "What've you got?" she yelled back, turning Marcus to follow him.

While she couldn't go at full gallop, the man seemed to know where he was going. Teo debated whether or not that made him more of a suspect... but his outrage at the girl being taken seemed genuine. If he was acting, then he probably deserved the money he would make. But soon they were in a part of town where riding would be slower than walking. With a growl, Teo dismounted and hustled to catch up to the tall man. "Stay nearby, Marcus. Come if I whistle." The horse whinnied its affirmation.

They were apparently going to one of the condemned houses in Old Sairaag. That made sense; lots of gangs set up shop where no one else wanted to live. It was in poor shape, and even Teo's inner merchant couldn't help but calculate how much it would cost to fix it up. No wonder it's condemned. Way too expensive. Then she saw the people inside. None looked familiar, but all looked like brutes. Until, of course...

"That one," she said, pointing at one that looked like he had just come up from a lower floor. "He's the one we saw, right, Hyrum?"

Current Location:Marketplace,Sairaag
Current Date:Afternoon, Spring 1

Hyrum was quickly becoming frustrated with how things were going. A whole marketplace full of people and none of them were willing to talk to him or saw one little girl being carried off by a big, ugly man! It wasn't that hard to miss! People need better observation skills! And better manners,as some people ran away from him screaming. "Nuts to all of you!" Getting ready to pop someone good in the chops, the chimera was about to lose it when he heard the brother of their kidnapped maiden announce something. "Got what? Hey-Hey,wait up!" And they were all running again, with the red head in the lead and Teo close behind on her horse and Hyrum bringing up the end. I-Really-Hate-RUNNING!

It looked like that thing he said about most of the houses being abandoned stuck with Sparky as they were starting to head in the direction of one of the under developed districts. Hyrum recognized it from some jobs rebuilding as they ran through the alleyways. They finally stopped running and were checking out one of the houses with a caved in roof and people inside. Teo got a look inside first and gave the first positive identification. "Yeah, that's the guy! It's hard to forget a mug like that..." But where was the girl now? She had to be inside somewhere...they needed to get in. "We need a way in...or something to bring them out." Looking around,he saw a brick on the ground, picked it up and looked towards the house. Looking back at Teo and their strange companion,he flashed a grin and tilted the brick. "How about we knock on their door and see who comes out?"

With an arm thrown back,Hyrum gave the brick a mighty throw at the house, not really aiming but hoping for something that could break with a loud sound. He got his wish, and things started to stir on the inside of the house. Stepping up while cracking his knuckles,Hyrum got ready for whoever would come out first. Show time.
