" Hello! Thank you so much!" Pieces exclaimed at the momentary hero, desperately trying to look respectable while shaking off a rabid owlcat. " Oh my goodness I could’ve killed you both," he said, staring at the soggy, sadly somewhat de-tailed doe with dismay. " I am so sorry. But you, me - " a turn to gesture at all of them, a few frantic tosses of his head to indicate how they resembled one another (though he found it a little difficult to relate them to himself beyond his hair - a matter for later), " - everyone, we’re all …family." A grateful smile accompanied his late introduction: " I’m Broken Things - Pieces. The twin sister is Time After Time, Rewind. And um, her here..." he chucked nervously, " Shot Me Down, Bang." A pause, and he asked earnestly, "and the two of you are?"

Re-wind was pretty sure she remembered everything. Ever. Well, perhaps not ever, but everything since she could see and hear. And she would be sure, because it was a blessing and a curse. Nothing ever faded from her memory, each place she'd been, each word she'd heard, etched, like a glyph into the yielding bark that was her mind. And...it got crowded. The headaches were just one thing... In any case, she had always been sure she remembered everything she had ever seen or heard.
But...
Now...she wasn't so sure. Because the tentative nod from who was surely her twin seemed to indicate he...knew her. And he could tell that she didn't know him. Oh dear. What had happened? Did he gain sight and hearing sooner than she did, foals tumbled from their shared sac? Before they were all washed - so she and Pieces and surmised, at least - separate ways in the Flood? ...Did she hit her head on a rock? That would explain a lot of things about the way she was now...such as why what should have been her own reflection was so dazzling in the sun - and she felt so small.
She was suddenly shy. She nodded in return, eyes cast down. He was a handsome buck, lithe and dashing; she was only an awkward doe. All she could do was spout useless facts that annoyed her companions; he had just rescued their sister from crocodiles -
- THEIR SISTER!
"Oh my, are you alright?!" she gasped, trotting over to the dripping doe's side heedless of Piece's careful introductions, "Oh dear, you're bleeding - both of you; just a second, I should be able to find some plants that'll help with that!" And she was off into the foliage, eyes darting in search, leaving the rest to continue their reunion.

They (unfortunately) did not drown and, by the time everyone was starting the introductions, Bang was no longer laughing. She wasn’t even smiling. A scowl had settled on her features that made it very clear what she thought about having an extra two siblings.
She stalked forward, but still kept a good distance between herself and the small group.

Give wished for more time to take it all in but it didn't look like she was going to get much. It took a lot to bite back a biting comment to the buck who'd caused the whole thing, but at least among his first words were an apology.
She sat up absorbing information but remaining silent. She looked at the buck, Broken Things, then at the twin of her rescuer who was there and gone so quickly. Well it seemed she knew something of healing so that was a good thing. The other doe, Give couldn't quite think of any of them as her siblings yet, though there was some resemblence in some color and markings and there was not doubt about the twins... well the other doe seemed like this was all an inconvinience to her.
Why the hell was she traveling with the others then anyway? Give thought and an annoyed flick of her tail brought attention to the worst of her injuries, her poor tail. After flinching from the flash of pain, she pouted at it before sighing and turning her attention back to Pieces, before he went to pieces ....
"I'm Give Up Forever," she finally introduced herself. "It does indeed seem we may be family. I could wish we'd met under better circumstances..."

Hero was not all composed as he may have seemed. Once introductions were requested, the adrenaline started slowing down. The buck's eyes darted from face to face. All of a sudden, he was self-conscious about his name. Where usually, it was a moment of great pride, not -in the face of a rescue of his sister- it almost seemed silly. Of them all, he seemed to be the only one with a short name - which suited him fine, it made his own introduction easy to remember. "I am Hero."
He shook out his fur, making sure that water didn't spray in anyone's face. He watched his twin run off, wondering slightly how much she'd forgotten. It wasn't that he knew her well, but as of late family was on his mind. "It's not so bad, I think the scrapes are closing up - but thank you all the same."
His attention brought to the other buck (and a sideglance to keep an eye on the scowling doe - Bang, was it?), Hero smiled in a boyish fashion. "I believe that would be a safe assumption. Were you looking for us, or is it just the work of the MotherFather that brought us all together? It was on my things to do.... to see if I could find you - mostly Rewind, she was the only one I remembered." He shrugged, "I figured it would happen in time."
Back to Give Up Forever, Hero's tone took more of a older-brother tone (same one when he would chastise a colt for some foolhardy stunt), "And what, if I may ask, was so important to cross that river? If you went up or down-stream a few furloughs - it would not have been so hazardous..."

Bang ignored her two new siblings completely and instead stared at Pieces, her fierce glare demanding his attention. “Well, this must be all of them. What now?” Her tone was mocking, but the there was an undercurrent of actual curiosity. If Give had voiced her thoughts and asked Bang why she was even here, she would not have been unable to answer. It was a question she pondered most days. That of course made her even more irritable when she failed to come to a conclusion.

"Amazing!" Re-wind chattered brightly around the stack of leaves she held between her teeth as she trotted her way back, "there's an entire patch of yarrow just beyond that clump of mangroves that's entirely untouched! Did you know -" The familiar words died in her throat as she caught sight of Bang's intense stare, and she slunk meekly up to her newfound siblings, silently plastering the healing herbs against the larger cuts.

" Give Up Forever and Hero..." he mulled over the names as they were mentioned, and revealed " I was leading the search, having found Re-Wind first and Bang second. It could've been better today." He paused after having taken credit - it may have been him seeking them, but it was really driven by... " It was our father." He said, monotone, heart full of conflicting worries and urges, " I met him first...and...and well, that meeting made me want to bring us all together. That's all." His jaw snapped shut resolutely, with a haunted look that warned the rest not to ask further. A slight shudder coursed through his scales, and he closed the subject with " you shouldn't meet him." In regards to Bang's brusque question, he too, was at a loss. " I guess we'll go off our separate ways." He concluded. We're all so different and have our own lives to lead...it's just that I really wanted to find all of us, so we know who -" we can rely on, he was about to say, but after brief consideration it was not at all true. " - our sisters and brothers are." [HOME STRETCH, PEOPLE! KEEP GOING! XD]

Hero nodded. He thought he could get along with his brother just fine - he seemed like a good buck. The does, overall, were okay. Bang must have inherited more of their father's personality, she didn't seem to want anything to do with them. Compare that to what Pieces said, it was making sense. "Sounds like the type of buck Mother would go for..." it was evident none of them had found her. Vaguely, he wondered how it was that she -for the most part- raised him but not them. Oh well.
With a shrug, the red buck didn't step away to leave. "Not like there are any pressing matters. I just go wherever my Quest takes me and go from there. It was nice to at least meet my siblings. Maybe we will meet again later."

Give looked at the ground embarassed at Hero's question, especially considering her answer was, "My frog... I have no idea how he got over there and from here that tree looked like a rather good half a bridge to reach him. I was doing fine too, if only someone," she couldn't quite keep the bitterness out of her voice, "hadn't chosen that moment to shout..." She attempted a grin to take the sting out of her words. Really she was still less than herself.
Give sighed with relief when Re-wind returned and treated her injuries. "Thank you. I'd love to learn more about such healing plants if we have some time."
She looked at Bang with surprise at her question and was even more surprised at Pieces' answer. Then again there was a certain settling within her, a satisfaction at something in her life fulfilled even just at finding these four. She had to admit she was curious now about their father, especially with the buck's avoidance of the subject. She wondered what there was about him to bring such a look and shudder and led to a further question.
"So we've found each other, and you Pieces have met our father. Does anyone know of our mother?"
((hope this isn't dragging things out, but it seems a natural question in the moment))

Bang's eyes narrowed at the mention of their father. “Good. I am sick of you, I am sick of her-“ She cast a particularly nasty look at Rewind in that moment. “, and I have no interest in getting to know these two morons.” Another nasty glower, this one aimed at her newfound siblings.
She would have left right that moment, but she hesitated. “I will find our father.” She announced, partly in defiance of Pieces but mostly from genuine curiosity. There had been glimpses. Sometimes the feeling of being watched over.
Their mother, however, was of little interest to the doe. It was time to go.

Hero watched Bang leave, not too upset of her departure.
He brought his attention back to the previously distressed doe, Give Up Forever. "I know her, rather well since she almost raised me. Her name is Heart Shatter, and she is pretty much always in the same spot. She's never been quite...right in the head. Something happened long before she met our father - whoever he is - and I don't think she was ever the same." The buck explained the grove where they could find her if they were ever interested. He didn't think she would mind, and perhaps not even realize they were there.

Give certainly didn't appreciate being called a moron, but there was obviously no use saying anything. "I wish you luck in finding him," she called to Bang as she left, the tone was a little sarcastic but she really did mean it too.
Give focused her attention on Hero, whose name she would never forget since he was very much her hero. "What an amazing thing," she replied, because it was that one of them knew a parent so well. Perhaps that was why Hero seemed to be the most... normal... of the lot of them. "Thank you. I think I'd like to meet her sometime if my travels take me that way."
Feeling much better Give stood and stretched her legs. She wasn't too surprised to look down to find Swallowed Light beside her. "Silly frog," she said her tone that of exasperation and affection.
"Well I have some answers and I have my frog, so looks like its time to part ways for now. I would love to meet up again sometime." She turned to Rewind and smiled, "I really meant that about learning more about healing plants."

A little guiltily - but just a little - Re-wind felt the fear shed from her frame as their terrifying sister disappeared into the Swamp. No longer fettered thus, she listened earnestly to Hero's directions, sure, at least, that these, she would remember.
Her newfound sister's genuine smile was such a relief to her after Bang's shrieks and glowers, that she fain felt her heart overflow with love and joy. She nodded enthusiastically, curls bouncing, "Oh, yes! Whenever we may meet, I would love to share all I know!"

Pieces did not speak at Bang's departure, knowing his place - no words from him could dissuade that sibling from searching what she shouldn't. He kept silent at Hero's reveal too, taking the information in. He would have to consider it with what he knew later. For a brief moment, he wondered whether to warn the newest sister of Rewind's enthusiastic sharing (goodness knows he'd learnt the hard way that a little - a lot of knowledge was a dangerous thing, especially from her overtly busy brain and ever-moving mouth). Instead, he smiled at everyone (spare Bang) warmly, and said: " then let's part well - and remember always that out there, somewhere, there are your sisters and brothers. See you again, perhaps soon!" EchoLimaFoxtrot Last post? Then Jun and I will close it off from there, thanks!
