As quickly as the small earthquake had come, it was gone again, leaving behind only its evidence. One big gaping hole in the mountain side where the ceiling of a cavern had collapsed.

Asch had fallen... who knows how far. He'd felt the impact as his fall was broken by rock, knocking the wind out of him. Pain shooting through his body. Eventually it was followed by rocks and soil falling towards him as well as more of the earth above had given way. He was buried and eventually his entire world fell into complete darkness.

The first thing Luke became aware of was the scent of earth, followed quickly by the dull throb of pain. He opened his eyes to darkness and thought for a moment that he had been blinded, but memories of falling assuaged that fear before it could escalate into panic. He pushed himself into a sitting position, displacing rocks and dirt as he did, and dazedly attempted to regain his bearings. He remembered running ahead of Asch, and he remembered the ground suddenly lurching beneath his feet, and he remembered hearing a scream--

Though it had been eased away before, panic would not be so easily placated this time. Had he stopped to consider why the hell he cared so much, he probably would have been quite offended by his own actions. As things were, though, he understood one thing about the situation: His brother had fallen ahead of him, and Luke could not see where he was.

"Asch!" His voice was hoarse, his throat choked with clay dust. He coughed to clear it and repeated the call. How was he supposed to find anything when it was so damn dark...?

There was no reply to Luke's calls, nothing but the sound of the occasional rock as it fell and bounced off the others. However, after some minutes, a Pokemon appeared at the edge of the sink hole looking down.

"Roark!"

It was Saber, and after the earthquake had happened he had quickly abandoned his pursuit of the Mew and came back to find his master. What he didn't expect to find was a large gaping hole in the ground with Luke yelling his master's name.

The pokemon's call summoned Luke's attention skyward where he found an unknown form silhouetted against the bleak sky - presumably the pokemon Asch had sent ahead earlier.

"Hey, you!" he shouted. He raised his arms to wave and better attract the thing's attention but quickly abandoned the effort at the sharp complaint of his right wrist and forearm; they had probably sustained damage in breaking his fall. Damn. At least his dominant hand and the arm it was attached to seemed to be functioning all right. Well, whatever. The pokemon could probably hear him okay anyway, "Could use some help down here! I don't see your trainer!"

The most important matter at the moment, however, seemed to be the illumination of the black pit; finding Asch would more easily follow that. Fortunately, Luke was struck with inspiration. A moment's passage found an Umbreon at his side, evaluating their surroundings with concern and confusion. Tenebrae's human explained, "Hey, you know that thing you do when it's dark? That whole glowing thing. Think you could give that a shot?"

The dark-type scoffed defiantly. Glow? And dispel that warm, elegant darkness? Perish the thought!

But Luke was impatient. "Come on! There's someone else down here and I can't even find him because it's so dark, yet here you are being stubborn!"

A dramatic sigh. Oh, very well. The purple markings scattered on the Umbreon's body gave off a subtle lavender light - just enough to bring visibility to the dark earth.

Saber didn't need to be told twice. His green eyes widening in alarm as he realized that his master was very likely buried beneath the rubble at the bottom of the pit. The Zoroark made a leap from the edge of the cavernous hole and began jumping from rock to rock as he made his way down, eventually landing near Luke and his Umbreon.

The dark type was very away of his master's distaste for this twin of his, but now was not the time for such things. He instead tilted his nose in the air, attempting to get a scent. Which was very difficult in the dust laden air, but eventually he did smell something. It was the scent of blood, which alarmed the Zoroark even further.

Quickly the illusion fox made leaps and bounds across boulders and debris, eventually coming to stop atop a particular pile where he started digging furiously. As Tenebrae's light drew near, a motionless gloved hand would become visible. However, the body it was attached to was clearly covered by a mound of rocks and dirt.

"Zrrrak!" Saber barked at Luke, and then resumed his digging.

Luke instinctively sidestepped as the pokemon descended, watching in a daze while it sniffed and scouted and suddenly started digging. A dull dread crept into the pit of his stomach. Earth and stone weren't renowned for being the lightest nor the most merciful of materials. His breath shallowed at the thought.

The Zoroark's bark snapped Luke out of his haziness, and he became aware of the unearthed hand Tenebrae illuminated. He felt for a moment that his own heart had stopped, but he knew this to be untrue as soon as he became aware of his own movements: He was suddenly working alongside the diligent pokemon to remove the debris. The pain that raked through his arm was of no significance now. What would he tell Natalia or Guy or his mother or father...?

As the digging commenced, Asch's hand suddenly twitched. A sign of life, even if a small one. Saber was faster at digging then Luke and started uncovering more as he moved soil away and then some decently sized rocks. He then came across a tree trunk and started digging around it as his master's arm was uncovered, only to find that Asch's head was under the tree.

As the two uncovered more they would discover that the tree had fallen straddling two larger boulders that Asch had fallen in between. The tree actually serving to shield part of him, and had kept the Rocket from being completely crushed, possibly saving his life.

There was a groan that came from the boy while Saber tried to uncover his legs, only to discover that they were pinned between two more boulders. The Zoroark flexed his claws, trying to figure out how to proceed without further hurting his master.

The small movement did not go unnoticed, and Luke doubled his efforts, moving now with more determination than panic, on the realization that the buried Asch still lived. With the Zoroark working even more diligently, the other boy was eventually uncovered. Luke leaned backwards and sat on his heels, taking in the dimly-lit scene with lightly labored breaths and a muddy hand holding his injured arm rigid. He was definitely alive - somewhat protected, even. Crisis averted.

The painful groan that answered the pokemon's efforts at assistance were a sudden reminder that it was not yet time to relax. Luke pushed himself to his feet and stared, trying to evaluate the situation as calmly and quickly as possible. "Uh..." Arceus, it was so hard to think straight. An idea came before too long. He unhooked his sheathed sword from his waist and moved to one of the boulders, carefully positioning the tip of it between the stone's surface and the ground and looking to the Zoroark, "Here, if I get some leverage on this thing, do you think you can move it?" It was a worth a shot in theory, at least.

Asch was most certainly alive, although not completely conscious. He stirred and groaned a bit, but that was the extent of it. He'd taken a pretty hard fall despite the fact that the tree had partially protected him.

Luke's idea drew a nod from the Zoroark. There was no choice really. They had to free Asch somehow. With Luke's sword lodged between the boulder and the cave's stone floor, Saber grabbed hold of the rock and began to pull. It was heavier than he had anticipated and he had to use all of his strength to even get the thing to budge. Wrenching his eyes shut and clenching his teeth as with Luke's help, the boulder lifted slightly. Allowing the Pokemon to shift his position and push instead. "Rrrrraaak!" he cried as he put everything into it, eventually toppling the rock and letting it roll over and fall with a loud thud.

Once done, Saber stood there, hunched over as he panted, trying to regain his breath.

He pushed all his weight onto the sword, and with the Zoroark's strength the boulder was finally removed. The task expended Luke's energy as well, and he stood swayingly for a moment, fighting away his overwhelming wish to just lie down for a few moments. He was tired, sore, and plagued by the sharp, fleeting pains in his arm - but at least he was conscious. At least he was able to stand.

The hand that lingered against the surface of the repositioned stone fell away as Luke approached his brother and crouched beside him, carefully rolling the fallen tree branch aside; Tenebrae joined his human dutifully to provide an ample light source. The boy searched cursorily for blood or other signs of dire injury before attempting to find any indication of wakefulness in the other redhead's expression. Thus far there didn't seem to be any.

He leaned backwards with an expulsive sigh. What was he supposed to do in this kind of situation? Ah, his poketch. He raised his wrist to utilize the little device's functions, but the screen was cracked and unresponsive. Damn. Maybe the pokedex he'd gotten, then. He pulled the thing from his pocket and was disheartened to find that the charge on it had run out. That was what he got for using it so infrequently...

"What the hell am I supposed to do?" His rhetorical question attracted Tenebrae's cynical gaze, as if the Umbreon felt he were being trusted to produce an opinion.

There was some blood. Mostly from lacerations attributed to Asch's fall. One on a leg they had just uncovered, a long cut that had torn through his clothing. A few smaller ones here and there. A small one in his forehead that had leaked considerably down the side of his face, also also a patch of fresh blood that matted his hair on one side that almost matched the color of his hair. Other than that, the extent of his injuries were likely unseen.

As Luke discovered that his devices weren't working, there was another groan from his brother and then some coughing. The dust in the air was still thick, and it coated his body as it settled.

Asch blinked open his eyes and turned his head slightly towards the purple glow of the Umbreon. Then Saber was standing over him as well, and Asch looked to him. "What the hell happened?" he croaked hoarsely.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 07, 2012 5:24 pm

The sudden words caused Luke's breath to catch, and he refocused his attention on the wounded. He was silent for a moment as he absorbed the swelling sense of relief, and when he responded, it was in a murmuring voice, "I guess the ground caved in. You were buried. Your pokemon got you out."

Hearing the other boy's words reminded Luke of his identity, and he was suddenly confused and offended by his own actions. Asch was a criminal responsible for the deep sadness of his own close friend. What was he so worried about him for? In fact, he could probably just use Leste and escape on his own - let the thief find his own way. But the thought of leaving him behind was even more objectionable than the thought of helping, in spite of all bitterness and disbelief.

A sigh. "Are you all right? You've been unconscious for a while." He could figure out why he cared once they were both safe.

Asch was silent for a few moments, squinting through the dim light at the person who spoke. It didn't take him long to realize who it was, and remember what had been going on prior to his fall. This did not bode well with him either. The other boy almost sounded... concerned. Why the hell would he worry about him? Probably just because they were both stuck down here now. Although the idea that Saber had gotten him out and not his twin, did make things go over a little better.

There was the throb in his head that now had become almost familiar to him, yet there was a sharp pain on his forehead now as well. Despite that, he started to push himself up.

"I'm fi-NGH!"

The moment he started to move, pain shot through him like a thousand daggers, and he gasped. His arm gripped at his side and he fell back again, his face contorted in an agonized expression.

"Dammit," he cursed breathlessly, the sheer amount of pain having knocked the wind out of him.

Saber loomed worriedly over his master. Humans were so fragile, and the Zoroark was afraid to even touch him in this state.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 07, 2012 6:03 pm

"H-Hey!" He started at the exclamation of pain, only relaxing when Asch lay down again of his own volition. At least he wasn't going to be stubborn about it. "Jeez... Just take it easy, okay?" Leave it to me, in other words, but Luke wasn't sure he could handle the matter of their safe escape on his own. In fact, he was summarily unsure. If not for his arm he might have stood a chance at climbing out - yeah right - but his actions were extremely limited by the circumstances.

He sat quietly for a time, deeply in thought as he tried to surmise some means to get out. If they could send up some kind of signal that would reach high enough into the sky to draw attention... Luke had no pokemon that could produce such a signal, though, and he certainly didn't wander about with emergency flares on his person. He breathed a weary curse. "Do you have any idea how to get out of here? I thought maybe with a beacon or something, but..." There was no way it was hopeless, but it sure did feel that way.

Asch gave Luke a dubious glare at his words, and watched as he seemed to try and think of a way to help their situation. Only to fail miserably. He snorted in disgust. It figured that his twin was too stupid to think. The Rocket tried to move again, and with a considerable amount of pain he managed to prop himself up into a semi sitting position, wrenching his eyes shut as he did so. Who said he wasn't going to be stubborn?

Damn. His left leg was broken, and he probably busted some ribs too and who knows what else. His left arm hurt as well, but at least he could still use it. He must have landed on that side or something. He then started fishing around for something, and eventually pulled out his Rocket Dex. Or what was left of it. He'd landed on that too, and his sword. He was going to have some nasty bruises there. The Dex was thoroughly broken.

Growling in frustration, he was tempted to hurl the broken piece of tech, but thought better of it and put it away. Leaning his back against a rock, Asch closed his eyes and attempted to breathe evenly and calm himself so he could think. All he had with him was Saber and a Ponyta.

"This is all your fault," he muttered.
